Agree with Dennis Noble's review already posted....we were a party of 6 old school pals who meet up twice a year with our wives but we chose a different venue each year - this year we chose The Turf. How is wish we could turn the clock back and change our decision. It was dreadful !!! The worst Christmas dinner i have ever had/tasted. My wife and myself opted for the "traditional" Xmas dinner after having had the starter of a prawn cocktail. Let's start with the prawn cocktail - 3 iceberg lettuce leaves and a " sprinkling " of prawns with a dribble of marie rose sauce...but the "traditional" Christmas dinner was something else. The presentation looked like it had been stopped on to the plate...very rubbery poor quality chicken sliced from a roll...hard veg and 3 small roast potatoes that were from a batch of a deep frozen bag. Two of our party had travelled up from the south coast...we had a dessert of " traditional " Christmas pudding that had a spoonful of custard again dribbled round the bowl. We asked for extra portions of custard which staff were delighted to provide. I rated the experience ONE STAR if I could have scored less I would. It was very very poor. I very rarely give such a score on reviews of this nature but on this occasion I felt I had to let others know of my/our experience so you don't make the same mistake. Sorry Turf...this has got to improve in saying that I hope you do, and wish you still Very Merry Christmas.

We've all enjoyed our Christmas party, thank you to all of the staff for all of their hard work - Freya, India, Iain, Jacob and Tash. Food and customer service was fantastic highly recommended.

This charming pub offers a welcoming atmosphere for a relaxing evening. The menu features delicious, hearty meals at a very reasonable price . Their drink selection is extensive. Met here for a meeting with friends to plan some future events. We chose this location as it's central to us all whether we walk or have to resort to the car. It was early on a Thursday evening, so we hadn't booked and were able to choose our own table. We were able to talk without being drowned out by background music or numerous people, which was ideal. I opted for a lovely mac n cheese toastie, sweet potato fries, and a gin or two. We ordered at the bar and waited a short while for our meals to arrive. We did have to temporarily move to a larger table to eat, as ours wasn't big enough for the plates. The staff were fabulous, the food was filling, and there was no pressure to be finished quickly and leave. Easy to get to on foot and by car, a good walk from the bus and rail stations. There's a car park onsite. I parked nearby and walked through as I wanted to avoid the evening rush hour in the city. We are likely to use this venue again for its convenient location.

Popped in for another bite to eat with the family. The food was good and the staff were great. The restaurant is now significantly cleaner than our last visit with no sign of insect activity.

Turf Taverns can be a little predictable but they have expanded their menu since the last visit. The Kofta flatbread was excellent 👍👍👍 as was the service from Tasha who endured our menu indecision with admirable patience. We'll be back!

Usually no complaints but food was below average beef looked like to rashers of bacon and no extra gravy on the side pub was quiet yet noone came to ask if everything was OK. My granddaughter enjoyed her chicken tikka though.

Lack of staff Poor hygiene habits of staff, messing with their hair whilst serving, rearranging nose piercings whilst serving drinks Staff with colds, sneezing and coughing all.iver bar and glass cleaning area, putting the glasses back on the shelf for drinks to be served in. Staff eating behind the bar and throwing things at each other. We received the smothered steak on griddle plate, menu stated larger portion of chips, 9 chips on plate, and not even as much as a tablespoon of cold peas. Not value for money, poor service and poor food Sadly will not be returning

Fast and friendly service off every team member, the pub is dog friendly, food very nice. Plenty of space and decorated nice.

Quick service, polite staff. One of our go to spots, always exceptional food and would definitely recommend to others.

We had an amazing time and our server Freya was the best server ever. She has been the best Server, nice and talkative and our service was very quick and sharp. I would love to come again soon. The food was awesome too.

I was served by India very nice great customer service we got the cheeseburger chilli dipper ,the gravy one ,chicken tikka masala and the classic beef lasagne we also got 2 chocolate fudge cakes and an intimate big candy mania we will be back again

Had a birthday party for my 13yr old twin grandsons, food was delicious, had the mixed grill and a super massive sundae so was well filled up! Atmosphere was good and food arrived quickly, the staff were happy and friendly and the place was clean and tidy overall so we had a great time. Thank you! We will be back again soon.

There was a youn man there too Thai I think? He was also so lovely, always with a smile on his face. Had the 12oz gammon with egg n pineapple and trimmings was cooked to perfection but chips just like warm,,was offered fresh ones but got a free pudding instead which was lush..the ultimate big candymania served by aiden friendly happy go lucky lad.

TY is an issue!! Believe he is potentially management or some senior position the way he was speaking to his staff and the service is appalling! What is the point in booking a table for us to turn up and given a table for only half of our party size and being told well it's been busy it's that or nothing! Also not impressed to see him leaning all over the bar kissing some women! Like there's a time and a place for that and infront of the whole pub was not it!

Great place to have a meal and drink 👍 but, the salads are terrible, limp, old and lack of dressing. Shame about the filthy untidy toilets which are very, very badly in need of a makeover. Painting, toilet seats, locks on doors, floors filthy, widows ALL need attention BADLY.

obvious lack of cleaning,(table and floor), cutlery particulary dirty with dried on stains. toilets stank 2 urinals in the gents leaking and in ladies only 2 toilets to choose from, 1 blocked and the other had the seat hanging off. gone downhill from our previous visits ( a while back ) won't be back anytime soon sadly.

The building needs essential maintenance and a damn good clean.

The Turf is a Hungry Horse franchised pub, which means it works to a national menu and pricing. I have visted before and was quite impressed, and wanted to see if the standards were as high as some years ago. I ordered fish and chips and a half of Strongbow and both came to a very reasonable £10.49. The quality of the fish was decent, the portion of chips well cooked and adequate, and the mushy peas were good. Also the lady on the till was pleasant and I didn't have to wait too long. Note as well, this pub is aimed at sports and pub games fans with Sky and TNT Sports available, a dartboard and pool table. Worth a look if you want a meal and watch sport at the same time.

I've always.loved my breakfast brunch here. Was shocked to learn they don't do breakfast anymore. Had a fish finger wrap. It was dry and horrible.. Another reason I visit is the staff are.always lovely . But.not.today. Funny atmosphere. Doubt.I will be back.. Wellnot for breakkie cos there.is no breakkie

I had the Korean BBQ Burger, and my partner had the Katsu Banquet. The burger itself was pretty good. The tiny portion of chips and 2 onion rings on the side are not good. The Katsu Banquet arrived with a stone cold pot of curry, I'm guessing they forgot to heat it. I waited in the queue at the bar for a few minutes (to ask for a re-heat) and the bartender didn't seem bothered at all about sorting it, 'I'll get to it in a few minutes' he said. After about 8 minutes, it arrived, nuked. And half the meal had been eaten. That's a shame. But the worst part of this place is how sticky everything is, the floors, the tables, then menus are all covered in old sticky food. This place really needs to invest it better cleaners and equipment. £28 for 2 meals, which weren't the best, in a place that needs a proper clean. If management read these reviews, you should be ashamed to serve guests in such an unclean environment, I dread to think what the kitchen is like. I didn't use the toilets, so I can't comment on their condition.

Watched the match, England knocked it out of the park! Great food and staff went out of there way to bring food out when really busy. My lass loved the veggie pie.

Starters arrived at staggered times with, everyone was finished by the time the last starter arrived, mains then arrived although starter plates still on table, starter plates only removed after we asked the guy serving the meals if he would take them away.

The food was reasonably priced the service was fine the reason I gave 4 stars was the gents toilet had a bucket under the leaking urinal which required emptied and under the hand dryer was black, just a pity because it's a good place to eat and drink.

Food is of good standard but in my experience was let down by undercooked veg and lumpy or excessively thick gravy. Venue could do with a more regular deep clean, families and students touching all surfaces lead to sticky tables and menus. Still remain a regular customer,

Took my daughter son and grandchild out for lunch ,amazing ,value for money friendly staff,eventhough they took some criticism from other unfriendly customers but handled it well,clean neat and tidy,first time there but will be going back,it was only certain customers that let this beautiful place down
