Griffin in Carlisle

Belle and josh served us, great night during the week in Carlisle, the best pub we've been in since we've been here. Would definitely come again.

The food was great and we accidentally turned up for the quiz which was a nice surprise! I was impressed with the selection of 0% alcohol options too.

Amazing atmosphere, food was not very well described in the menu. Prices were affordable. Long waiting times despite ordering nachos for example and waiting 25min to arrive. We end up of leaving without eating the food because it took them nearly 1h to serve 3 main meals and nachos on the other table. It wasn't a busy day tho. Salad was dry, tomatoes too,accaroni cheese not recommended, tastes like plastic cheese.

Bit loud nd noisy, but grub and drink reasonable.

Excellent, very handy for the station, friendly pub. Great helpful staff, good grub and best of all, a delicious pint of Level Head!

Plenty tvs showing football. Plenty staff behind the bar providing quick service. Recommended .

Dog friendly greene king pub at the end of Botchergate near the station. Usual range of beers spirits and pub food. Friendly staff. We like it because they don't mind a soggy dog. I fact they loved him

Pop in for a drink. Nice atmosphere though, at least making me feel better to be here. Plenty of seatings inside and outside. Great service and good location just at the corner of train station. At the end we had good time.

I popped in after work for a pint and some food earlier today. Josh and Chris behind the bar were absolutely brilliant! Good crack and good food, will definitely be back again soon!

Enjoyed a lovely meal with friends. Friendly staff. Good food. Josh deserves a special mention - great host - he even took a festive photo for us.

Stopped in before train journey. Very busy as we are approaching Christmas. Good selection of beers. The staff were efficient and friendly. Didn't sample the food but the menu looked good and reasonably priced.

First visit today. I'll definitely be going back.

Upstairs bar was shut. To be fair the food was good and the beers kept coming. Nothing too special, nothing too awful. Spot on three stars.

Fantastic lunch and lovely staff

It's our new discovery. A nice atmospheric pub with excellent food! Can't say a lot about the drinks, as i went there with my son, but the food was absolutely delicious.

We came as a stop over going to Scotland. Been to 2 other pubs before here. Cost in 2 other pubs £3.50 for pint and half. Here for the same £9.20. Atmosphere very poor. Avoid if you are on a budget. Better places for atmosphere and price

Good food, great service, helpful with getting our table sorted with the dog. Served by Josh, Josh and Jade.

We walked in on the Saturday night yo make a reservation for Sunday lunch the following day. We wanted to refuel after day 1 of Hadrian's Wall, we are raising money for our local hospice to purchase a cuddle bed. Staff on Saturday were friendly and it was easy to book. We returned on Sunday after our walk for lunch. We all enjoyed the beef dinner and a few of us had pudding. We had chosen this spot as the football was on, we ended up staying most the afternoon!

Terrible experience of this establishment , was not busy at all on a Sunday evening around 7.20pm ish. Yet it took so long to get served 3 drinks , such a shame as it looks not a shabby of a place

Update taken over by greene king Very nice in there some top beers available and done out lovely.. 100yds from Carlisle train station have a beer have a brew or meal in very nice surroundings before going on with the rest of your day.. Impressed, they even have all the sport on various tvs around the place what's not to like. 🤷🤷

Absolutely minging, dropping someone off another station so decided to grab a drink and a bite to eat. Got the loaded fries sharing thing which was OK. The buffalo chicken one was the best the rest was a bit crap. The main issue was how dirty everything was. We were there for 45mins to an hour and the tables were never emptied or cleaned anywhere around us. When we sat at our table we had to move dirty plates and glasses. I wouldn't mind bugjit wasnt busy and they had plenty of staff on chatting behind the bar.

My husband & I called today (September 28th, Saturday) for lunch while on a steam train trip...the food was served quickly & was very tasty..our waitress (with long dark hair & glasses) ,was a credit to the Griffin, very friendly & efficient..The Griffin itself is a friendly,clean ,good place to eat..we will certainly be back.

The food was amazing cooked to how me and my family enjoy our meal and faith was absolutely amazing with us and my children as my children are deaf she put a big smile on there faces as she was talking to them but some of the other staff need to cheer up and understand that not everyone can experience what “normal” people can experience so please and thank you don’t go amiss these days I was shocked to hear off my wife that some staff don’t know how to use there manners but apart from that evething was amazing thank you to faith and Josh for yet another good experience but faith keep going with your dreams you’ll get there one day hope it all goes well for you

Firstly when we went in we thought it was a witherspoon but soon found out it wasn't, Food and drink were good and staff were friendly and professional

Visited here again on Saturday evening (after our first visit in January 2024). Once again food was lovely, and the service was on point. Shout out to Laura who made us feel very welcome and suggested we stay for the live entertainment, which was a male vocalist. We had a fantastic night and will be returning very soon!

Some of the staff here are absolutely amazing the food was fantastic but as I was watching the staff I have noticed more or less the staff are leave on person out never got a chance to speak to the lovely lady that was on the floor all night but I want to let her know she was doing amazing and staff should feel bad for not talking to this member of staff you never know what anyone is going through but other than that the griffin is a nice place to stop by and have a quick meal and a quick drink and the girl that was on the floor the other weekend you definitely made my dead son feel so happy that he was able to talk to someone other than just mummy and daddy you are amazing thank you for making my son smile and laugh the way you did you have a heart of gold

Called in for something to eat and opted for a chicken burger and a mac n cheese. Chicken burger was pretty bad with a processed cheese slice on it, mac n cheese was just gloopy stodgy garbage. Definitely not somewhere we'd call again! Bar is ok and decent choice of beers but avoid food

Popped in quickly for some food while waiting for the train. When we were told that the wait was around 20 mins, we decided not to risk it and just had a drink. But then the waiter came to our table and said he's checked with the kitchen and they just finished the last dish, so our loaded fries would only take a few minutes. They came and were absolutely delicious (BBQ Cheese ones). We really appreciated the care and understanding from the waiter, and he earnt you guys 5 stars! Well done ✅

Had a lovely afternoon here, the sun was out so the outside area was full but we weren’t disappointed inside. The pub is beautiful and the service was lovely. The flatbread was perfect. The staff Made us feel so welcome and at home, not as much fuss for us as there was for the dogs though 😁 thank you again for a lovely day, we will see you soon.

Great quiz and enthusiastic quizmaster on a tuesday night and brilliant interior decor. Accessible and close to the station, what else do you want?

Food was really very good. Unfortunately the choice of draught ale was limited. But the interior was nicely done.

Really poor service. Have no ability to work out who is next in line. Recommend going to the wetherspoons just a minute away - better service, by a distance, *and* cheaper. Save money, get served when it's your turn and chill out.

I'm a big Greene King fans. Friendly service + nice food is a norm. However I must say I was disappointed this time. PLEASE BE AWARE ALL DAY MENU serves after 12pm here. Do not pay by gift card as the staff will need to key in the numbers manually and she will be eyerolling on you. I felt humiliated, be honest. The breakfast was disappointed. If you tried my breakfast you will know what I mean. Quite far from "good" standard. In Carlisle I had better visiting Gosling Bridge Inn branch. Always quality service.

Inside was lovely service was fast. However the cocktails are abismal, with little alcohol to proper specification. Pints are good.

Eaten here 2X for dinner.. Great portions, great flavour and service. If I do the Wall again, this spot is on my stop list.

Met with a friend place was roomy, food good , pleasant staff, dog friendly just what I needed .

The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the food. The breakfast was tepid and barely edible (even though we were ravenous)! What on earth is in those sausages?! We were both worried about food poisoning (that fortunately didn't come to pass).

Travel with work. Always my only option when at Carlisle Station. Love looking for a greenstone wherever I am

Very friendly staff. Table we had booked did (as requested) have a view of the live football being shown on TNT Sports. Perhaps because of the football crowd, many of the food items we had wanted to order were not available (but what we did order was very tasty).

Decent pub, food was very tasty and loved the decor. Very echoey so having conversations was difficult at some points especially when the music was turned up. Great selection of food and drinks.

Nice bar just by railway station, food available , didn't eat this time but last time food was OK, simular to a spoons type of menu good bar overall.

My wife and I used to frequent the Griffin along with friends several years ago but stopped going during Covid. Yesterday we returned and realised a breath of fresh air now permeats the place with new and dynamic deputy managers (take a bow, Josh) who are on a mission to provide excellent service and food. Well they certainly succeded yesterday. We will be back!

Easter Saturday I had gammon steak. It was to draw and all the staff were fantastic as well. I returned later that evening for a cup of tea as I’m not a heavy drinker and the barman (blazer white shirt) let me have it on his tab. Massive thank you to you and I’ve given you a shout out on my YouTube channel GWR Trains. Next time I’m making content in Carlisle my evening meal is definitely sorted.

Place has a warm atmosphere , our server (josh) was amazing I have celiacs disease and he was so accommodating and made things easy for me to order and was so good with my dog athena ! Definitely would be back for a pint. Food was average but they are the first place to get the temperature on my steak perfect first try ( rare) in Carlisle so theres that!

Dropped in for a quick pint between trains, very quiet, same great service. The friendliness of the staff more than made up for the scarcity of customers. We'll keep coming back!

Attractive pub close to the Station and the Historic heart of Carlisle, didn't eat there so can't comment on the food but the service at the bar was good, plenty of seating and power sockets to charge your phone. Gents loo has quirky industrial looking theme, but the taps, spray water everywhere all over you, and the cubicle doors had broken locks.

Food was lovely and Jace was very friendly and helpful, I would definitely come back again,

Soaking in the cracking atmosphere at a friendly local pub! Hens and stags, have a blast here but remember, no crossing on the stairs and STAY safe!!!

Excellent service, booked a Six nations rugby package and got a perfect view of the screen! Staff are amazing, very efficient! Huge range of beers, very clean! Will be back!!
