Nice location, but the service in the cafe is extremely slow, having been a few times, no improvement. Would not recommend which is a shame, as this cafe does have plenty of potential,

We popped in here as we were meeting friends for lunch, only to find 3 items : soup, chicken stir fry and a bean salad on the hot food menu. There was a very tired looking salad bar...the result the four of us dined elsewhere. Two of us had coffee while waiting for our friends and that was good, but noticed how expensive the cakes were.

Yesterday we decided to visit tullie House. A brilliant museum with lots to see. With rumbling tummys we headed for the garden restaurant, sounds very sophisticated borderline fancy doesn't it? With a child in tow we were organised, checked out the menu online as you do. Novody wants a hangry child do they! Off to the counter we went.. Checked the menu out, very limited,a little surprised. I hope you like cheese, just saying. We asked the lady for the children's menu but apparently children don't need to eat so they don't have a menu. She reassured us the kitchen could sort a sandwich and some crisps for the lad. Sandwiches were £5.95..reasonable for there description. Onwards to the till, two sandwiches, scraps for the child, two coffee and 1 cup of milk - £29.50. I nearly choked, shame the sandwich wasn't big enough for that to occur (il explain that next). I questioned the price and the lady said the tills had just been updated so she quickly altered it to reduce the price to £25. I took a receipt.. We then waited 10 minutes while every customer behind us was served their hot drinks. When we asked for ours the lady said she didn't know we had ordered any. Ofcourse we were just stood waiting with empty mugs politely like a pair of lemons for no reason, standard. Back to the table, I checked the reciept.. Four sandwiches we ordered and two hot chocolates apparently. Couldn't see them on the table though, must be some kind of wizardry I thought! My mother went to further question the reciept with the manager, without sarcasm they had added 50p onto each sandwich, charged us for 2 extra sandwiches and added to magic hot chocolates on for us to dream about. Meanwhile at the table.. Food had arrived, wahey! The childs meal was as initially described.. Scraps.. One slice of white bread, or should I say a slither of bread with a quarter of a slice of ham inside. Don't think that piece of ham had ever seen a pigs arse it was that small. Adult sandwiches.. Well they wouldn't of fed a mouse in a pet shop. The coffee was nice tho.

We had been to the castle (2 parents, 2 grandparents, 3 grandchildren aged 2,3,5) and came here for lunch. The dining room has large windows which give lots of natural light. The food we had was well presented and very good - I am surprised by the last review because the children liked it too. Two of them are, however, on the adventuous side with food. The staff were very friendly, and we all enjoyed it.

Visited as a family when at Tullie House museum. Food range was poor, particularly for kids. Adults was typical cafe fare. Prices were about what you would expect for a cafe. Not cheap but not too expensive either. Was surprised & disappointed to be charged 60p for about 100ml of fresh milk for a baby considering we spent £20 on other food & drink. Food was mixed. My tuna mayo jacket was very nice. Wife’s Brie and Cranberry baguette was undercooked. Overall I would t visit again and will go into Carlisle centre.

Called for a snack lunch this week with my wife and we weren't dissapointed. The food was really good, it was a pleasure to sit and eat in this beautiful well appointed restaurant. Everything was home made and the food was reasonably priced. We had first class service and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Can't wait to go back, well done to the management and staff.

We came to Tullie House today to see the Percy Kelly exhibition. We decided to have lunch in the restaurant first. I had soup which was delicious and a generous chunk of crusty caraway seed bread which was excellent. My friend had a Super Food salad which included rocket, couscous, avocado, pieces of sweet potato roasted with cumin seeds, pomegranate and feta cheese. She also had a chunk of the same bread as I had. My friend said her salad was the best she had had in months!

It is some years since we last visited the Museum and one of pleasures was a meal in the Garden Restaurant. Last week we wanted a light lunch. I opted for asparagus and goats cheese quiche and salads (very small piece, crust broken, absence of cheese). The list of salads was impressive but few were available, either chick peas+ (I am allergic) or tomato and red onion which I dislike. The waitress couldn't understand why I asked for at least one of the other salads. I ended up with some tired wilted salad leaves. I had a"fresh" bread roll. It may have been fresh two days earlier. My husband had leek and potato soup, nice but a a very small portion. I cannot remember the cost but it was expensive. Word of advice - eat at the Cathedral cafe, lovely food, very reasonable, lovely Staff.

Pleasant location, being housed within the main local museum, Tullie House. There is an additional room used for functions including weddings and parties. Good for a light lunch or a coffee and cake or tea and scone, particularly if meeting with friends. Never been stuck for a table.

Muy bueno para familias, ya que muchos juguetes con los que jugar para entretener a los más pequeños ocupados, y un buen número de sillas altas. abran la segunda sección del restaurante si se está quedando lleno, lo que ayuda mucho. The restaurant is attached to the Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery. The size of the restaurant is average and can accommodate 40-50 people at one time. It also has a small garden outside, where you can sit and eat your meal.We stopped here in order to have lunch before going to visit Carlisle Castle. The restaurant is nice and is in good condition. Besides that, they have a nice variety of foods and beverages that you can choose from. We had gammon with fries, eggs and vegetables; the taste was delicious and it was a very good size. It was a nice day afternoon and after finishing lunch we spent about 20 minutes in the garden. The service was good and staff were friendly towards everyone. When we were in the restaurant, quite a lot of people had their lunch. Everyone seemed to get their food on time. The food is good, there is a wide variety, it is freshly cooked and for a city-centre restaurant, it represents good value for money. We will certainly be returning.

Being a restaurant attached to a museum I wasn't expecting the food to be anything special. I was very pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the food and service. I visited twice in 3 days. on the first occasion I had chilli beef with a side salad. The chilli was medium strength and served piping hot. the salad was colourful and fresh with a good range of ingredients and a very tasty dressing. Had this been my only visit it would have been a 5 star review. On my second visit I had Crispy pork belly with spring onion mash, cider gravy and apple sauce whilst my friend had the chilli beef. Service was a little on the slow side (it wasn't busy) and the chilli arrived without a side salad which we had to ask for. The Pork was sweet, tender and had lovely crisp crackling. The Mash was little better than lukewarm which rather spoiled the overall experience. On the whole a good place to eat and I would go back again.

Ive visited this cafe on a few occasions as my parents like it but i personally have noticed a fundamental flaw-not enough staff! after being told there was a 15minute delay on our order we waited almost an hour with no aplogy or explanation, we asked twice when our food was coming only to be told that theyd check, i saw at least 3 other tables complaining, after mentioning it to reception i was told there had been many complaints, is anyone listening? its a shame as when the food arrived it was quite good, im not one to complain usually but frustration led me to this review, please listen to your customers!

Brilliant Cafe/restaurant at Tullie House Museum. Very wide range of food on offer from cake and a coffee to salads, jackets, soups and sandwiches to a full scale restaurant standard cooked to order main course with all the classics plus some regional twists. Can get quite busy and is popular with all generations. Have a good look at the menu and the counter before you commit to ordering. I had a jacket potato with several salads from the counter but I kept eyeing up other people's choices as they were brought to the tables........making sure it wont be long before I'm back. Must try the Roman honey cake!

I've given this restaurant so many chances over the years, drawn in by its accessibility and overall atmosphere. Unfortunately that's where the compliments end.More often than not the staff aren't really interested, which is frustrating as they seem to know what they're doing. The food looks great, it really does, but often tastes bland. The cakes and traybakes look beautiful but don't live up to that promise either. And the prices are not the cheapest in Carlisle either. If visiting the museum, I would recommend eating elsewhere unless you definitely have to have wheelchair access or pushchair and highchair facilities and then you might want to chance it.

Just returned from afternoon tea at Tullie house in Carlisle. Everything was well presented and very fresh. Assorted finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, an array of pastries and chocolate dipped strawberries, all this served along with lashings of tea or coffee. Well worth the price of £12.00 pp. Pleasant staff especially Tracey the manageress.

A pleasant cafeteria in the old quarter of Carlisle but the menu results are a bit hit and miss. Lunch on 9th December 2013, the place was not overly busy. My wife ordered gammon steak, which was a nice looking meal when it arrived. I ordered fish and chips described as fish from sustainable supplies of pollock. I'm not surprised they are sustainable because Tullie House, from the meal I had, are using so little fish in their portions, that pollock is likely to over run the oceans. The batter casing was cunningly impressive but the fish content was equally cunningly elusive. In effect I had batter and chips rather than fish and chips. No one wants a load of pollocks but a fair portion for nearly eight quid should not be too much to expect.

Visited at lunchtime on Sunday, very pleasant surroundings but I'll be generous and give the staff, food and service a rating of average. The staff were indifferent and disinterested, the food lacklustre, the soup flavour unidentifiable and many tables left uncleared. Amazingly they were advertising a gourmet evening in June at £75 (not a typo) per head, good grief.

I should like this place but I always feel a bit disappointed by the layout and having to push through what looks like a sea of chairs. It's 'family friendly' apart from the old dears who frequent it who would clearly like you to go somewhere else and keep the noise down,. So I always feel a bit uncomfortable there. Some staff members clearly don't enjoy their job and are not friendly. Coffee average. Food is your average healthy offering really, needs a bit of a rethink. Jacket potatoes for kids good though, as are the traybakes.

We walked in on the Saturday night yo make a reservation for Sunday lunch the following day. We wanted to refuel after day 1 of Hadrian's Wall, we are raising money for our local hospice to purchase a cuddle bed. Staff on Saturday were friendly and it was easy to book. We returned on Sunday after our walk for lunch. We all enjoyed the beef dinner and a few of us had pudding. We had chosen this spot as the football was on, we ended up staying most the afternoon!
