We had a family wedding nearby and chose the Red Well due to its location. We did not read any reviews prior to booking. 5* review from us. Two rooms were booked, a double and a twin. Don't be worried about parking, there's plenty. Booking in was easy. We were taken to our rooms and they were extremely modern and clean. Absolutely no complaints at all. The rooms are accessible via a door, which is separate from the Inn, so it was nice to not have to walk through the Inn to access our room. The beds were really comfortable, and we slept so well. We did not eat an evening meal at the Inn, but on speaking to guests at the wedding about the Inn we were met with, "Just wait until you have the breakfast." The next morning, we did go to the Inn for breakfast. Two options for a full cooked. We chose the smaller of the two and also the scrambled egg and salmon. None of the three of us could finish our breakfast. Only because we could not finish them. Absolutely brilliant full cooked. All items appeared and tasted to be locally sourced and not a cheap option you can find in some places. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Again, booking out was a breeze. This is absolutely no reflection on the Inn, but one piece of advice when you're leaving the Inn is to be extremely mindful of motorcycles on the road. We stayed during beautiful weather, and the riders must have thought it was the Isle of Man TT. So my suggestion is to try and reverse park (at the places outside the front) to avoid having to reverse into the road into oncoming bikes. You don't have much time when the bikes come round the corner. We would definitely return to the Inn.

I often meet friends here for a bit of breakfast and a coffee or two. The service and food is usually of a good standard as it was on this occasion. There’s plenty of car parking space but it can get a bit busy on occasions. Well worth a visit.

We visited The Urmston at the end of March which was a get together with the family. We all enjoyed our meal tremendously, I recommend the cheese pie and the chips were lovely. Everywhere was lovely and clean and the staff were very good. We feel that we must give a mention to SHAUN who looked after us throughout. We wouldn’t hesitate in visiting THE URMSTON again in the near future.

So this listing is wrong. The resturaunt is the Waterbird and the hotel is now a different listing called the Lakes hotel and Sa. Ate at the waterbird this weekend and it wasnt a great experience. The maitre d was very rude about wanting us to order because "our kitchen cannot cater for a lot of meals and we have a large booking coming" despite us arriving at the time we was aked to come for. Both meals were good but not great Pidgeon was tough and the stake wasnt cooked as asked. For £15 starters and £25+ mains you expect the best not average.

nice enough pub decent food but looking a bit neglected outside and the toilets could do with a good spruce up and fix the broken driers but by far the worst is the state of the filthy chefs trousers and aprons worn by the staff had we seen them before we ate we would have gone elsewhere, clearly a long time since this was last inspected by the Food Standards Agency

We have never been to The Hare and Hounds in Crowton before. What a find! A lovely country pub with well looked after cask ales, we decided to have some food, a delicious chilli and cheesy garlic bread, very tasty and reasonably priced. A lovely real fire, relaxed country surroundings, truly a gem! Definitely worth a visit!

Great service from the team and a really lovely view out of the castle window whilst having breakfast. However, the food was awful. We had a full English breakfast and everything was just bland, the bacon was overcooked and the sausage was pitiful, the bread was also incredibly thin. It tasted as it if were made using super cheap products as opposed to the locally sourced farm referenced. We’re incredibly surprised and equally disappointed. In addition, as I hardly ate my breakfast I went to check out the pastries which were overcooked …… or burnt.

We were looking for somewhere to stop when driving back to Glasgow from the Peak district. This place was ideal because of location, just off motorway& had places to walk the dog. But we were so glad we stopped as the food was tremendous, the staff super friendly and they accomodated dogs. We had a brilliant lunch (so good we eat it too quickly to remember photos!). Definitely go if you are in the neighborhood or need a stop when travelling. Its will be our default place to go now.

This was our 3rd mid week stay here and as always the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was lovely, best leek and potato soup I’ve had! It’s very trainable price compared to other hotels and restaurant costs (especially for the area it’s in). The restaurant building is lovely with all the old wooden beams showing.

I live locally and walk in the area regularly so had visited this cafe before, finding it ok, if not spectacular but very convenient in an otherwise quiet spot. Tried to call in again today while out with a friend and their dog, only to find dogs aren’t allowed inside, only in the outdoor seating area. Not too bad in summer perhaps, but on a cold, damp day, neither of us were in the mood to eat outdoors, so jumped in the car and visited Lingholm Kitchen instead, one of the many excellent dog-friendly cafes around Keswick. I understand its the owner’s prerogative to set their own policy on dogs, but when the vast majority of businesses in the Lakes welcome dog owners, it’s always disappointing to be excluded like this, particularly when the cafe was practically empty at the time. As someone who eats out regularly across the area, thankfully I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of places that don’t welcome dogs, so there’s no shortage of alternatives.
