We stopped at the Red Well for an early lunch having heard good reports of the food. I chose Ham Egg and Fries. The Ham was delicious , Two fried eggs sunny side up and the nicest fries I have had for a long time. Nicely plated up and served with a smile. My Wife had quiche, with a delicious side salad and Granddaughter had a BLT with a side of fries. We will eat there again. !

Excellent lunchtime menu with huge portions of freshly made food. I had the smoked salmon and cream cheese and my partner had the prawn marie sandwich, both on luscious bread accompanied by salad and fries. I had a pint of local cask beer and it was in great condition. Also the service was impeccable.

Super friendly welcome, all staff we met were very welcoming and friendly. We stopped for3 nights , our room was modern, comfortable and clean . We ate breakfast which was substantial and delicious, the evening menu was varied with specials daily. Our last day we had afternoon tea it was outstanding. Thanks to everyone 🤗

This place offers one of the best afternoon teas that we have ever had. The sandwiches are a nice mixture of buns and bread with generous fillings. Plenty of lovely cakes and scones - really exceptional. There are just a couple of things I have to mark it down on. One of our party uses a wheelchair. We had asked in advance if the property is wheelchair accessible and we were told that yes it is. What didn't get mentioned was that the ramp leading from the car park to the patio for the entrance is actually in one of the parking spaces. So if a vehicle is in that parking space, you can't use the ramp. We struggled for some time to get the wheelchair on and off the patio because there was a vehicle in the space and not enough room to negotiate getting round it. Also, when we finally made it in to the restaurant none of the staff spoke to us or acknowledged us. No-one said hello or that our food and drink was on its' way. Nothing. It just seemed a little frosty and rude. It didn't feel at all welcoming. I would dearly loved to have given this review 5 stars but the lack of access and welcome weren't great, sadly.

Lovely rural spot. We had sandwiches for lunch which were very good. They are a bit pricey . They come with a choice of sides: fries, salad or soup. Service was really friendly and prompt. Would return.

My husband and I happened on the Redwell Inn around lunchtime today and decided to eat there as I had heard good things about the menu. We were greeted with a huge smile and a warm welcome by the waiting on team and quickly seated in a very pleasant and cool (much needed) room. There were two choices of menu specially for today; three courses for £14.99 and the usual lunchtime menu. My husband opted for the three courses- Caesar salad, followed by roast turkey sandwich followed by lemon posset (which was to die for). He thoroughly enjoyed it. I just had a main course Caesar salad which was utterly delicious. The chicken breast was warm and tender and the bacon, sticky, salty and tasty. One of the best Caesar salads I’ve had, so thank you Sam the chef. Just a word about Natalie, Jenny and Kara, the waitresses. They worked as a team, so we were waited on by all three of them. So friendly and kind, they certainly added to the whole experience. One slight nibble was the phone behind the bar which rang several times, it was slightly annoying, but the staff were all busy with people and no time to answer it. It was a lovely lunch and we will certainly be returning. Highly recommended.

Nice to see the pub open again, hubby wanted to give it a go. Food was really really nice, and such a varied choice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our only complaint is that service was rather slow considering it wasn't very busy, 4 times we were "walked" past and had to ask for our plates to be cleared and a dessert menu. We will be back as the food was great.

I’d seen the breakfast deal on the facebook page & as we are local we decided to go. Wow - it was just lovely. We had the deal of 2 big breakfasts & orange juice. The food was just great quality & 1 of the best cooked breakfasts I’ve had in a long time. Well worth the money. The place itself is really welcoming & we will be back for an evening meal for sure. Staff are extremely pleasant too 👍

We have all been to group Christmas lunch events where the food is nothing more than a roast with pigs in blankets! The best we hope for is that the food is hot and plentiful. Do we ever expect the food at a Christmas lunch to be memorable? The Red Well Christmas lunch surpassed all of our expectations. The menu was interesting, varied and excellent value. Wonderful, superbly presented dishes were served promptly and, despite the number in our group, within a very short time frame. The food was simply amazing. The ambience of the room was lovely. Bright and airy yet warm with beautiful views through the extensive windows. And finally, the staff. What a fantastic group of people. Smiling, polite and keen to make the dining experience first rate. Customer service at its best. Thank you!

We met for lunch today (11th Feb.) and we’re delighted by our experience. We were warmly welcomed, had excellent, friendly service from the two waitresses, who could not have been more helpful. Seating is very comfortable, unlike in a number of venues we’ve visited, the table spacious and in an attractive dining space. Food was excellent: I had a bacon, Brie & chilli jam toastie, served with a tasty salad and coleslaw, with a cup of mushroom soup as a side. My wife’s toastie was beef, onion & blue cheese - some salad & soup as me. Her parents had fish& chips, mushy peas & home-made tartare sauce. Everything was beautifully presented, comprised generous portions, and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. Unsurprisingly, conversations turned to planning return visits with various friends and other members of the family. Additionally the menus offered plenty of choice for gluten-free and vegetarian dining. We’ll be back very soon. Congratulations to their team for providing lovely ambience and lovely food.

Oh dear, this cafe has potential to be great, the decor is lovely as is the ambiance but the service is dire. After waiting in our seats for ages I eventually went to find someone to serve us. Where was the menu, the waitress couldn’t find one apart from an A4 sheet of the breakfast menu, not much good at lunchtime. Having been asked if we knew what we wanted we ordered a drink each, no idea how much it was going to cost or what other choices we may have fancied, drinks arrived surprisingly no sugar offered or on the tables. We drank our drinks, paid and left very disappointed.

Had a fabulous weekend -stayed at the Red Well - arrived as strangers but left with many new friends. Excellent rooms with quality bathroom fixtures and a powerful shower. Very comfortable beds - slept so well. Attended a local 21st birthday party and lots of guests staying who had also been to the party so breakfast was a very sociable one with an excellent offer of continental breakfast at 8.30 or a bacon/cumberland sausage/ egg baps at 10.30 (probably not the normal breakfasts offered) but extremely accommodating and friendly staff. The pizzas looked amazing and we will be back to try one. Thankyou for a wonderful weekend and can't wait to return.

Went today with my 3 year old and my granny. Lovely service from the lady behind the bar but poor food. For food alone I would give 1-2 stars. My granny had the steak pie which was ok. My daughter had the chicken nuggets which she wouldn’t eat, they were cheap horrible breaded processed nuggets. I had the sirloin steak chips and veg. The steak was bland and tasteless & tasted like it had been frozen, my chips tasted old and the veg was over cooked mushy and fully of water. A very disappointing visit and wouldn’t return for food.

We had a one night stay on our way through the area and out initial greeting was warm and hospitable. We were warned that the hotel was hosting a car rally early the next morning but that we were in a room across from the front of the hotel and away from the car noise. The room was beautiful and modern with all the amenities you need. We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, and tried to get a beer in the bar afterwards, but it was just too busy. Think i waited for 10 minutes without getting close to the bar (rally crowd) so gave up. The room was quiet and we heard nothing of the rally, waking to find them all gone. Highly recommended - great people, great room and good food.

Early treat for Fathers Day. First visit here and my last. Setting is amazing, looks inviting from outside and restaurant is nice. Space between tables and privacy for chatting. Waitress seemed inexperienced and dropped things and brought me an empty bottle when I asked for mayo. The halloumi starters were very nice, decent serving for under £5. The steak was ok, but for £5 extra to make it surf n turf and you get 5 prawns seemed a poor show and disappointment. The other meals were nice, but nothing special. Overall it was disappointing based on expectations from the outside appearance. I can imagine it has its own following, but I won’t be going back.

Having stayed in this area many times this was our first time at the Red Well . We had a comfortable double en suite room at the back of the Inn . Light to the room was via two skylights which are sufficient but if you are desperate for “rooms with a view” then try booking the front facing rooms & you will not be disappointed. Our room was very comfortable with quality towels & toiletries in the en suite . A floor standing fan to keep you cool on warm nights was a nice touch . We had dinner both nights in the restaurant which was excellent. Sunday lamb dinner was just fantastic. The bar has a good choice of beers on pump which after tasting many can honestly say were very good . Breakfast is also excellent with a good choice . We went for full English on both days which was excellent ( don’t miss that one ) and will keep you going for what ever day you have planned. The owners & staff are extremely friendly & efficient which makes your stay very relaxed . The location of the Red Well couldn’t be better with easy access to the lakes & Lancaster . We highly recommend the Red Well as a great place to stay & after what ever you have been up to during your day simply park your car have a great meal & a relaxing drink or two . We will certainly be staying here on our next visit 5* . Enjoy.

We recently visited the pub during a serious flooding in the Lune Valley. We found ourselves trapped by high water, at night, unable to travel the road in either direction. There were no more rooms available for the night at the pub, so we asked if we might stay inside until the flooding cleared. We were shocked then when owner refuse because "he was not licensed". We expected some minimal level of sympathy during a natural disaster, but did not find it here. We were lucky that some local residents, also disgusted by his behaviour, put us up in their lounge.

Having previously had a lovely meal as a couple we had no doubts that the food would be as good with a large group of fifteen. Made to feel welcome from the start by friendly and attentive staff. Very reasonably priced, delicious food and large portions which particularly suited hungry teenagers! Would definitely recommend for any occasion as well as for couples to enjoy a romantic meal! Great value for money in very pleasant surroundings. Looking forward to our next visit...!

We stayed at this lovely place recently whilst attending a race meeting at Cartmel. We looked for somewhere within comfortable driving distance from the racecourse and The Red Well was perfect for us.We really enjoyed our time here. The owners Paul and Lorraine made us very welcome. Our first night we sat outside with an excellent bottle of cold Chardonnay - the weather was really warm so it was rude not to! We made a new friend, Jake the Border Collie who introduced us to his toy to throw for him.We then went for dinner which was really delicious. None of your fine dining miniscule portions here. Didn't have room for desert the first night, but I was determined to have tiramisu the following evening which was just perfect. In fact better than the one I had in Italy last year! And last but not least the rooms. Lovely and clean, comfy bed, brilliant shower - in fact everything you need including tea/coffee making facilities. So thank you very much for your hospitality and we'll definitely see you again sometime. We'll recommended.

We visited the restaurant last Saturday evening. Initially they seemed confused we were there despite the fact that we had booked however that was swiftly sorted and we were seated at a nice table in the restaurant. On a positive note the girls who served us were very polite and did a fantastic job under difficult circumstances. Now onto the food. The mushrooms we had tasted ok but the sauce was very watery, it was ok but not the best start. Four out of five of our main courses arrived in a timely manner but on bringing the last to the table the waitress explained the kitchen had made a mistake and my Mums meal was delayed. By the time it arrived we had nearly finished and to top it off it didn't look good. It was pork belly and was topped with what we assume was meant to be crackling but resembled a piece of old leather. My meal was Yorkshire pudding with trio of sausages and mash. It was tasteless, the mash was lumpy with no gravy. I persevered through 2/3 of it but gave up in the end. I noticed the chap at the next table did the same. On a positive note my cousins lamb cutlets were great apparently. All other meals were just ok and nothing to shout about. We did mention this to the waitresses who apologised to us and we praised them on their service. We actually had a great night as we were celebrating a family Birthday and we see each other rarely, it would just have been nice if the meal had topped it off

My family and I were looking for a place that would be good for us all to eat. We stumbled across The Red Well and we not only had great service but a excellent range of food. My mother and brother had fantastic rib eye steaks and they personalised it just the way my brother likes it. I had a lasagne, which was layered perfectly and was delightful. We also had Pâté and BBQ Ribs for a starter which was presented beautifully. We had a excellent waiter who checked back on us several times and put up with our nonsense. After dessert and coffees we concluded a perfect night. Excellent place to eat if looking for a family night out filled with happiness.

Came with my whole family for mother's day. Staff fantastic and attentive, food lovely and great value! Nothing is too much trouble! Some members of the party had the roast beef and commented it was the nicest beef, very tender and could eat it all. Would definitely go again!

Family of 5 meal Sunday (Mothers Day) afternoon. Pub and restaurant were very quiet when we arrived, few more diners by the time we left but by no means busy. Staff were attentive and pleasant and the place is generally quite nice. If we were fault finding, food on the floor under and adjacent table is a bit of a faux par, watching someone randomly sharpening a carving knife in the restaurant was a little bizarre, especially as he wasn't even in chefs whites ! Being given a napkin which was already marked is not the best but these are minor issues. The food is good, but I would not say great. It was served hot and well presented, reasonable portions at what in the main were reasonable prices at £130 for a family of 5 having 2 courses with drinks is fair value I think.

We had a 1 night stay at Capernwray house and on there recommendation we decided to try out the Red Well Inn. We were not disappointed. The staff were extremely friendly, the young girl on the bar was lovely and the older lady was great, really down to earth and very helpful with recommendations. The dining room is modern and cosy. The food was lovely too. Definitely would call in again if I lived nearer.

Unlike the previous review, 8 of us really enjoyed Sunday lunch on 29th January. Have they reviewed the right place? The beef was beautiful and tender and came with carrots, broccoli and cauliflower in a side dish. Yorkshire pudding, roast potato and mashed potatoes. Everything was freshly prepared. We also had tiramisu that had been made by the restaurant - delicious. We had 3 courses for £20 and all food was freshly prepared. Great price point for quality.

My mum, daughter and I thought we would treat ourselves to lunch. A rare treat. It took over an hour for our first course to arrive. The presentation was dreadful, the beef tough, chips burnt and 'vegetables' turned out to be about a desert spoon of peas. Tiramisu was a small dish of foamy cream. No layers of cake or biscuit. Just cream. I felt sorry for the waitresses who were trying to be cheerful, but the food and kitchen ruined a special treat. Left feeling very sad.

We had heard that the Red Well was under new management and went to try it out one Sunday evening. We received a warm welcome, the service was very good, we really enjoyed the fod and the prices were very reasonable. My wife said her well-done steak was the best ever. The only downsides were a very limited wine list, which we were told would shortly be extended and only one other table occupied. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our visit and will return.

This is exactly the kind of stay id hoped it would be and more! We dived at the local quarry before arriving at the hotel inwhich we were welcomed with open arms and sat with the locals in front of the fire. The pub was quaint with a modern twist, the scenery was beautiful, surrounding by country side. We got so settled by the fire, drinking with the locals that we didn't actually visit our room until late evening, which was stunning, spacious, clean and qwerky with its apex ceiling and velux window. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the breakfast delicious- poached eggs were cooked to perfection.Well worth the £95 charge per room, Can't wait to return and next time I'll ensure we eat dinner!

When we drove past the pub we noticed a sign stating that it smoked its own products. Thought I'm stopping on the way back. Well walked in and the place was empty however the lady behind the bar was more concerned with her phone so had to wait. Then noticed a chalk board with some nibbles advertised, we enquired and was told that they were no longer available, disappointed. We then got our drinks, ok, then enquired about the smoked products and we were directed to a could with a very limited stock, we didn't buy. We drank up and left feeling quite disappointed.

When I arrived on the Monday evening the hotel told me that the restaurant was closed on Monday - they claimed that I had been advised of this in advance, but that was the first I had heard of it. It certainly didn't show up on the booking - ought they perhaps have mentioned it when they accepted the booking...?. The hotel was in the country so I had to travel for about 20 minutes by car to eat out that evening. Not only was the restaurant closed but the whole place was closed, locked up and in darkness from about 6.30 p.m., so that when I returned, I could only access my room via a dark slippery fire escape, with a door key which took much persuasion to work! The hotel agreed as a favour to provide breakfast at 7.30 a.m., but it took quite long time to get it on the table. I ate there on Tuesday evening - not impressive, and possibly an indication of why I and a colleague were the only diners. By the way, the description in the booking of my room being a 'suite with seating area' was inflated to say the least - it was pleasant enough but was just a medium size room with a little chair in the corner.

Just intended to stay the one night but the food was so good, we stayed for two! The accommodation is fine although some of the rooms are a wee bit small if you were staying for week. Dinner is only served up to 8:00 pm so make sure you are there in plenty of time, Great choice of dishes and the fish dishes were all so well cooked from smoked mussels to haddock in batter - all excellent. The chef/owner Rob has his own smokehouse and smokes his own fish - so good! Breakfast is pretty good as well! The manage Ashley was charming and most helpful as was housekeeper,Julie. We loved it and would not hesitate to reurn.

The Red Well Country Inn Cornford, Kirkby Lonsdale Road, Carnforth LA6 1BQA Wonderful Country Hotel near Lake DistrictOur family stayed in this beautiful Country Inn for two nights for our visit to Lake Districts Though we booked the rooms for one night only, we extended our stay by another night and visited entire Lake District from the hotel. Located in a country setting in a lonely place, the rooms are very modern, brilliantly furnished, clean, tidy and well presented with new decorations. The rooms have names and not numbers. Prominent persons figure in the room names; and a narration about the figure is kept in the room for readers to read. Our stay was very comfortable, breakfast nicely cooked and affectionately served. Apparently a family run business, the staff cannot be more welcoming. and all- smiling. But one has to reach the place in day time, or make prior arrangement to reach late as the hotel has no regular Front Desk service at night. We had phoned the hotel about our late arrival and one lady was waiting for us, welcomed us with warmth and smile, showed our rooms and said good night. The lounge and the Bar – cum restaurant was wonderful, but service closes at 9 pm. So one has to carry food for dinner if he or she reaches the hotel late.

We stayed for one night on our way up to Scotland . The place was very quiet when we arrived but we were greeted by a very lovely lady who I think was the owner. She showed us to our room which was super modern , newly decorated and very clean. The bed was large and comfy. We ate in the restaurant in the evening. We had excellent mussels, sea bass and bread and butter pudding. The food was hot, nicely presented and very tasted. The whole place has a very homely feel and I think it's probably what an Inn would have been like historically. By which I mean family run and homely. That is not a criticism as we throughly enjoyed ourselves. The few staff that we saw were very welcoming , hard working and couldn't do enough for us. The food and drink prices were very reasonable too. We will be back on our next trip up north.
