Agree with the other reviews about the smell and the poor quality of the beer, just wish I’d read them first. Normally an independent pub is better than a chain but this one would have soon had new management if it was part of a chain. Doesn’t serve food which is just as well because I doubt it would get a hygiene certificate. As for the smell, not sure if it’s the toilets or general damp but it probably says why it was so quiet. Takes a hardened drinker to be happy in here.

From the outside this place looks great but it's completely the opposite on the inside. As soon as you walk in you get hit with the smell of a mens toilet. The decor is as miserable as the woman serving behind the bar. Also a bit pricey. Only upside was they had cask ale.

This is a stunning pub with a great atmosphere and lovely customers. Their real ales are always good. The staff care a lot too. Dog friendly at night. They have some good bands on too Not had a chance to try their food yet Put your car number in the machine when you visit and all is well. Totally recommend it especially when @The THREE or @The HATS are playing

A Village pub that feels like it is trying too hard to be some kind of Benidorm dive. I feel sorry for anyone who lives nearby, including the vicar in the church over the road. When a pub has to try so hard to get people in that the best they can come up with is loud music from bands that should have got the hint about how bad they were 20 years ago it makes you wonder what it is they’re trying to cover up. You don’t have to wonder for long though! The beer is of questionable quality and that’s putting it mildly. We decided to give the place a try despite the din, hoping we’d find a quiet corner - fat chance of that because you could hear the racket half a mile away! We got served the cloudiest beer I’ve seen outside of my uncle’s dodgy home brew and couldn’t finish it. We left with half a pint left and even now I’m wondering how long I’ll be off work for with a bad stomach! The little pub across the road was much better, admittedly quiet but the beer was good and the hygiene was a credit to them. Even better, we could hear each other speak! If we wanted to go to gigs we’d pay for a night watching someone decent in a venue big enough to cope with it, this was seriously dreadful and when you want to talk to the people you are with you’ve got no chance in a place like this. Avoid.

The food was appalling. My daughter got ribs which was cole with a thick sauce on it. We asked them to warm ot yp but it still tasted horrible. I got butterfly chicken that was very small also cool but burnt. They put a hot sauce on when we asked for lemon sauce. My husband got cheese and leek pie that had no cheese and was flat as if it was stood on. Yuk. Luckily none of us have been ill yet.

Called in for food on friday evening which was delicious loveley homecooked fresh food . My only gripe was that i was with my wife and 2 children aged 14 and 13 and the table next to us was taken over by about 10 people who were not dining just drinking and the language was atrocious and went unchallenged so we decided to skip dessert and leave, a bad end to an otherwise loveley meal . As food is only served til 8 i would expect the dining area to be for diners only until that time and not a free for all for rowdy drinkers

There is nowhere around here that you can get freshly prepared food, so on friday we were looking for somewhere to get a pub lunch and we decided to call at The Rams head, it was about 12.45 there were only 4 people in, the place could do with a makeover to be fare, but don't let the outside put you off, now we come to the menu, plenty of choice and all home made by the chef, we choose 3 starter and 2 side orders of chips & onion rings, starter steak skewers, Camembert with chutney, sliced mushroom in a white wine sauce served with garlic bread! Verdict Fantastic! and it was only £14.00, the service was excellent, I would definitely recommend you try it out you will not be disappointed.

Not been here for years so walked across the road from another hostelry which amazingly was closing early on New Years Eve. Anyhow I'm glad we did as the place was rocking with mainly 40+ who knew how to enjoy themselves without causing any trouble. Had a really good time. Place needs a refub to brighten it up but nonetheless was a good night. Might try it again.

Maybe it was the time of year I last visited but the Rams Head always feels comfortable and homely. Protected from the weather outside, this pub feels like a haven you may not want to leave (especially in winter). A good selection of craft beers and a great food menu make the visit even more pleasurable and prove that maybe it's not so "grim up North" after all ;) Looking forward to the next time

Live close by. Not been in a while, however tried this since getting a new menu and really enjoyed it. The fish and chips were the best around lowton. Hand cut chips are amazing (proper chips). The chilli beef noodles were also lovely. I would defiantly reccomend going here. The food is also priced reasonably and not too costly which can be found in some pubs local. All could suggest is the pub itself could be a little modernised but that’s a minor suggestion. Lovely!!!

We though we would try this pub has it had good reviews. We arrived to a very cold pub with a rude bar man. We were directed to the person to see regarding our reservation. The lady was very polite and gave us Sunday lunch menus, all was fine. Our food arrived and the hunters chicken was fine, nice home cooked chips, however the roast beef dinner was awful, the meat was like leather and no taste. The fish was slimy. We decided not to complain and pay. At this point we asked for the bill and took out our bank card, only to be told it's cash only. At no point was we told it was cash only and to have had our meals and not given the choice to pay cash or leave was a disgrace. Totally embarrassing and having to send a member of family to a cash point is not on. Won't be returning or recommending. Was glad to get in the car to get warm.

I took visitors to this pub as I'd been there when the previous chef was in residence and it was out of this world, but this time oh what a difference, the menu is pieces of paper on a clip board it is limited to say the least and the food well! 2 of us had the mixed grill which was anything but grilled e.g the chicken hado been deep fried then kept warm so it wasn't only dry but burnt on the bottom, the mushroops were seasoned so much they were inedible but the worst was the egg whigh was hard yoked but raw white lastry all of agreed the chips were awful we had seasoned ones which weren't nice and the other three had white undercooked ones with the fish then the chef told us it's because the potatoes are changing from old to new!!!!!!! sorry that's rubbish I certainly won't be going there again nor will I recommend it

I had Cajun chicken fajitas, hubby had big breakfast which came in a frying pan (original) and son had chicken. All the food was really good, homemade chips too. It had lived up to expectations.
