The best restaurants serving British food in County Durham North East

Very busy, waited in queue for 20 mins. Card machine not working, only taking cash. Cheese scone was OK, tea was OK.

Walked in and was served at the bar at no point were we asked if we had booked, we Walked around and found every table was reserved so there was nowhere to sit, we sat at a table that looked like the people had left only to bo told by an uppity yong lady that the table wes booked in 5 mins and we would have to move when we said there were no vacant tables the reply was well you will have to sit at the bar so we drank up and left for lunch elsewhere, if we had been informed before we were served we would have gone elsewhere but it seems they were willing to take our money and hope we waited for a table. We will never return. I

Pensioner special for £5 good size roast with a hot drink between 12 till 4pm, great value. Also ask about the 2 course specials.Service very good. Book to confirm. Pub seem to be straining for business hopefully it is busy other days. Price on food has gone up and comparing to other pubs may be looking expensive. We have fish and chips at £14.

Very poor. We was greeted with a cold welcome. We should have picked up on it then TBH. Signs up saying 4 star luxury boutique rooms. They are far from it. Didn't clean the rooms properly. Stairs up to rooms aren't good especially if unsteady on feet. The only member of staff that was pleasant was the lady serving breakfast. We left a day early because we didn't like the place

Ordered medium rare sirloin steak, recieved a well done steak and certainly wasn't a sirloin cut either, but rest of the food and service was totally fine, need to understand cuts and cooking times if you want do steaks properly.

Had a main course each and a couple of drinks and it was exceptionally economic for the high quality of the the food. Exceptional standard in a very pleasant environment.

Nice ambience where you can choose food from burgers, pizza & kebab hub, Korean cuisine, Mexican food and Greek food for fair money, on a self-service basis.

Booked four rooms for my party of seven. Not one room had shower gel or shampoo. No glasses and no hot water in sink or shower. We ordered meals just after 19.30 and they didn't arrive until 20.30 then one was mixed up so had to wait another 10 minutes. All in all not good value for money at £103 for a double and twin and £80 for the single. Certainly could do better.

This was a gem found by pure chance. Stayed a couple of nights ate both evening meals there. Huge portions and served very hot. As you’d expect but not always get. Good real Ale. Very busy so if fining probably best to book. Rooms very in keeping with period. No skimping on heating. WiFi good. Shower also good and very clean. If I’m looking to moan a designated soap and shampoo is expected. The only complaint is the mattress. To protect from springs slept on duvet. A memory foam protector would no doubt rectify this. We would definitely stay again. And as everything else so good giving full marks.

Highly recommend A* Service from start to finish. I've eaten food across the whole Northeast and this will take some beating! The camp grounds were brilliant, wash facilities had plenty of hot water shower and bathrooms were spotless. Hospitality from the staff as a whole was fantastic. Will definitely be back. Thank you

Hi I'm a regular at the Black Truffle in Seaham... I pop in with friends for coffee and sometimes a nice cake or 2 .... the staff are great... very friendly and always have a smile on their faces. The food is 2nd to none and fairly priced and would recommend a visit. You can also get your drinks to go...

I personally invited my family to have a coffee at undercroft restaurant , where previous time it was delicious, so we came a long way from billingham to durham for coffee where today I was absolutely disappointed, they just gave machine coffee where quantity and quality very very bad and asked staff they said they are using same coffee bean but machine coffee which tasted like rubbish, staff said as they are closing they made coffee in machine , if the staff said clearly before buying that the coffee can be prepared only by coffee machine I would not bought , waste of 14 pounds which is expensive , really I want refund for the shit coffee , if restaurant owner rectify this and return my money back
