Acabo de comer el más increíble almuerzo del domingo de Roast Beef, con budines de Yorkshire sin gluten y salsa. Mi hermano le hizo saber a Dan el chef de mis restricciones dietéticas cuando hizo la reserva. No fue ningún problema. Mi comida se veía y sabía tan bien como cualquier otra. Tuvimos un verdadero almuerzo dominical tradicional, carne de res muy bien cocinada, un montón de verduras perfectamente cocinadas, asados crujientes y puré de papas, así como el pudín de Yorkshire sin gluten y salsa para mí. A menudo, las opciones de GF pueden verse un poco secas, poco atractivas y sabrosas. No así en el Caballo Negro. Fantastic food. Really fresh and good quality food. This is a must visit outlet we are definitely going back to try out more of the menu.

Lovely restaurant in Barnard Castle. Food very good and staff very polite and attentive but not overly so. Would recommend it.

Rating 1 out of 5 as they've tried to remove my booking.com review of them. Disgraceful and unprofessional. Would never stay again. Edit: the language they refer to is me quoting their reception supervisor who blamed a staff member who she described as having a mental disability. Shame they couldn't have just done the right thing at the time.

Popped in for lunch, seated upstairs, nice place to watch the world go by. Lovely food, very reasonably priced, super fast service, washroom very clean, friendly staff would recommend.👍

What a lovely meal we had! Pleasant service. Delicious food. Great surroundings! Nothing not to like. The roast loin of cod and steak with all the trimmings were excellent. Will definitely go back!

We heard this cafe had been taken over by Clarendons in Barnard Castle so decided to see how much had changed. Happy to say that, as far as we can see, nothing had changed; it was as good as ever. We both had the Ploughmans which were platters and featured dressed salad, two types of cheese, quality ham, egg, caramelised onions, lovely bread and butter and house made coleslaw. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole meal which was very fresh. There is a Specials Board next to where you order. They are open Wednesday to Sunday until the end of October then will close for the winter. We will certainly return.

I turned up last night. Needed a safe place to camp overnight in my van. What a gem of a place. Joanne (landlady) was so kind and helpful. Despite being "technically " late for a meal, she produced a delicious roast dinner. £17 for overnight camp in a secluded area at the back of the pub. The ground level. Use of showers and toilet with drinking water tap available. Absolute value for money. Joanne was also very kind this morning. She ensured I received help to get my old van started. I highly recommend this establishment

2nd time here Myself and my mam and dad went for Sunday lunch and I have to say that it was absolutely outstanding. Sue is very friendly and her staff are also brilliant. The food was outstanding tasty and the puddings are also amazing. Would highly recommend it to anyone!

While in Barnard Castle, we decided to order haddock and chips x2. Big mistake!! The chips were inedible, burnt and hard. The fish, well batter was overdone and hard and the so called haddock was disgusting, I've caught and eaten many haddock but never tasted anything like this. All ended up in the bin and had to find an alternative for tea. Avoid at all cost!!

Amo a Bolam y al Paisano, lo cual no decepcionó; por MÍ. Sin embargo: 'La que debe ser obedecida' dijo; ¿la llana/pintada? Las mesas de madera eran "pegajosas". Nuestro almuerzo del domingo fue sabroso y disfrutado por los cuatro. Sin embargo: 'Uno' no estaba satisfecho y no visitará más. La gente tiene que aceptar la apariencia rústica que es única, agradable. El personal era divertido y eficiente, lo que nos permite cambiar nuestra tabla: ¡Dos veces! Mi consejo es que lo veas por ti mismo: Porque unos 50 comensales no pueden equivocarse. Quizás Table Cloths resuelva la duda: 'A Ha'prth of Tar' no costará una canción! 😁

This is a great organic farm shop. We have rejected supermarkets and chosen to buy from independent shops, which makes this a brilliant place for us. The fresh fruit and vegetables are top quality and buying here means that we also generate virtually no plastic waste or even plastic recycling. Ecover refills are available, along with other eco-friendly cleaning and household products. Their own organic products, whether fresh or frozen, are excellent - we love the soups. The beef and chicken are also absolutely top notch. The friendly and helpful staff are also to be commended.

We recently visited this restaurant that we had previously enjoyed for its great food and service. Unfortunately, our most recent experience fell short of expectations in several ways. Upon ordering drinks, we had to wait 20 minutes for the first round to arrive- it was two cocktails but this is an awful long time bearing in mind our table was booked for 8:00pm so quite late really On to the starters, compared to previous visits, a bread bun was served with hummus instead of the usual flatbread or breadsticks, which was a bit unusual. My husband enjoyed his meatball starter. The service further lagged as we waited over 15 minutes for our empty starter plates and drinks to be cleared. The next round of drinks took as long as the first. On to the main course, despite the understanding that meat needs to rest, the steaks we ordered arrived cold. The waiter took them back and returned them warmed, but all of the accompaniments were cold as a result. Additionally, the chips were disappointingly rock solid, and there was a lack of butter on the dry steaks and the promised greenery was missing from the plate, both stated on the menu. It was evident that the restaurant was understaffed, as indicated by the delays in service for both drinks and meals. Even when we expressed our concerns to the waiter, the manager, in the background, did not make an appearance or address our dissatisfaction. It’s really disappointing that our recent dining experience here was marred by slow service (not the wonderful waiters fault who was running around), cold food, and a lack of attention to detail. I hope that they can address these issues- really unexpected from The Apartment Group. We’ve eaten in many of their venues and this visit was by far the worst.
