Keep in mind there's 3 parts of runa farm. We had our wedding here this year and we're now ready to write a honest review. 1. The accommodation, brilliant, rooms are lovely, expensive but worth it, breakfast is amazing, staff for accommodation are top of their game and inclusive. I highly recommend them and we're planning to stay again. 5 star all the way! 2. The wedding it's self, the team at the actual venue are hard workers, on the ball. There was some mistakes, for example we only got half the drinks we paid for but over all they are amazing at keeping the whole day together, never seen people work so hard. The food however wasnt great, dry and not very nice, kids food was amazing though. They need to be more clear about where food and drinks are for people. I do not recommend a buffet style but more sit down so everyone gets the food they should. 5 star, dispite the mistakes like no drinks put out or issues with food they were brilliant. The day ran as it should. 3. The apartment group, the people who plan the wedding with you. This would be a 1 star, these were the only reason I had stress about my wedding, they added random people to the day, charged twice for items, and all they said was "sorry typos" check your bill and check it twice! They constantly got things wrong, I emailed corrections constantly and had to get management involved and they still got it wrong. They clearly have zero experience and it was very very upsetting. The amount of times they tried to rip us off was a joke, just really keep a eye on your bill! I actually had to drive a hour to the venue once as they wouldn't respond to me so went on a open evening to get them to actually reply to a email. Once they've got you signed on they don't care. Then after the wedding they asked me to do a review! I did a nice one for them for an award! They didn't even get my partner's name correct when emailing back thanks! Changed my partner's gender as well! Surely they should at least get that part correct. Dealing with the apartment group was the only thing that brought me any wedding stress, they had me in tears one day with the amount of "mistakes" they made. They give zero cares on complaints too. So I'm summary, runa farm is amazing, but you have to deal with the apartment group which arent. If you want the venue have your eyes open and be prepared to correct all them mistakes they make. When you get to the actual day and the wedding team at the venue take over, they'll pull it around for you. Even they said they've never seen it so bad with ours and then trying to bump us.

Runa farm is a hidden gem, you won’t be disappointed the location and setting is perfect.

Our wedding on 11/11/2024 was truly a dream come true – we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day! Everything was absolutely flawless, thanks to the incredible team who went above and beyond to make every detail come to life. From the moment we arrived, the staff’s professionalism and kindness made us feel so at ease. They were attentive, responsive, and ensured that every single aspect of our day went smoothly. The venue was stunning, and the team transformed it into the beautiful setting we had envisioned. From the breathtaking decorations to the seamless flow of events, they truly made everything so special. Every guest felt warmly welcomed and taken care of, and so many of them commented on how beautifully everything was managed. Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly to make our day unforgettable! We’ll forever cherish the memories of our perfect wedding day, and we couldn’t recommend this team highly enough for any couple planning their special day.

EVERYTHING about Runa Farm is good. As a wedding photographer Ive visited many hundreds of venues and Runa Farm is amongst the very best. The attention to detail and the overall aesthetic is fantastic. When a venue puts so much effort into those details it’s a sign that they truly love and care for what they do. I could list so much but it often comes down to little things. The entrance porch to the main wedding section is bursting with greenery. Its like a mini jungle and creates a beautiful little space for photographs as well as a brilliant welcome for guests. It’s just a small section of the venue but it demonstrates how they go the extra mile. The staff are all brill so you would be in really good hands if you choose Runa Farm for your wedding plans. We spent the day / night at Runa farm to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a hot tub room which was beautiful, the restaurant food is delicious, all staff very helpful and polite especially the lady on reception.

We stayed here as guests at a Wedding. The Wedding Barn and Chapel are beautiful, warm and welcoming. The food was gorgeous both at the wedding and breakfast the following morning. It was a lovely experience.

From arrival to departure we were so well looked after by all the staff. Our room was lovely, facing on to the fields it felt really private and the hot tub was the cherry on top. Lunch was delicious, lovely outside space for the dog, short drive in to the town with plenty shops cafes bars and restaurants. Lovely riverside walks. Even though there was a wedding on we didn't hear a thing! Breakfast was stunning! It was a perfect, much needed break away from our daily hustle and bustle.

Just stayed for two nights for a family wedding. The place is gorgeous and staff were very efficient and welcoming. Nothing was a problem. The wedding day was magical. I would highly recommend Runa Farm fir a wedding venue. ❤️❤️

Lovely place a little expensive but overall good

We got married at Runa Farm a couple of weeks ago and I cannot even begin to describe how incredible it was. The staff were amazing, super friendly but very professional and thought of everything. We didn't need to ask them to do anything because it was already done. Our guests are all still raving about the food and venue. One of my groomsmen said that his kids enjoyed it so much they never once had to get electronic devices out. I cannot recommend it enough!

We attended a wedding reception here and from start to finish it was top quality. The rustic feel made it feel welcoming and homely without losing any of the quality and high standards. The food and the service were great and really well presented and flavourful. The outside seating area was a perfect setting as the twilight hours arrived with the fire pits providing plenty of atmosphere and warmth for those wanting a calmer experience. The bar area and the night time staff were first rate and the speed and service quality made the night all the more enjoyable not having to spend time queuing! Special shout out to Gary the master of ceremonies. He is an asset to tour venue and whenever I interacted with him he was dead set on making the day as special as possible for the bride, groom and everybody else at the event. Little things like having a list of names and wanting to introduce himself to all the wedding party and parents made him hands down the stand out employee of the day. One more mention to the employee on reception. I never got her name but she also was friendly warming and informative. Seemed to genuinely care about our experience and was fast and efficient. On a final note the breakfast was 10/10. The freshness, the choice, the portions were all as excellent as the standards set the previous day.

Beautiful place. Stayed for one night for my wife's birthday. Had a walk into Barnard Castle and back round, very good location. Room was very tasteful and the food was delicious. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect night get away for me and the husband. The staff were amazing in the smithy, very friendly and accommoding. Even gave us a free birthday drink. The room was beautiful, clean tidy n comfy bed. Would definitely recommend 👌 👍🏻

What an amazing place. We were travelling home and decided to break the journey up. Booked 20 minutes before arrival and were very surprised by the facilities, comfort, welcome and very different accommodation

We stayed 2 nights in a courtyard suite with a hot tub for my sons wedding. We had a perfect stay and a magical wedding. Runa staff are amazing

Excellent service. Staff kept the kitchen open for us to get dinner despite arriving 10 minutes before it was due to close. Same again in the morning when we had to leave early. Breakfast was cooked for us about 45 minutes before usual start time. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent, as was my wine. The property is furnished and maintained to a high standard. Best nights sleep for ages. One bit of feedback is could have slightly more vegetarian options for dinner.

This room was booked for us by my grandson as part of his wedding party, he was advised it was a good room for accessibility due to us being in our 80s and my husband walking with a stick. We didn't realise until paying the balance that we had been booked into a hot tub room, which was a joke again due to our age this also meant we had to pay £575 for 2 nights in a room which was no use to us really. On arrival the step into the room is really high and was dangerous getting in and out for my husband, the room was very dark and dingy with the only natural light coming from the windows in a stable door which lead out onto the so called outdoor seating area. The door had gaps in it so you could say daylight coming through. The outdoor area had 2 folding chairs on a strip of gravel with a 2 foot strip of patchy grass then a very dangerous 1ft high breeze block wall so dangerous because the stable door opened outwards and if you wanted to go to your hot tub you had to close it to get past the wall to open another wooden door which opened into what looked like a lean-to shed where the hot tub was located. This had a roof covering it with what looked like a window with no glass looking out over the fields, theclidconbthechot tub wouldcbectoo heavy fir us to lift off even if we had wanted to use it. The room was tiny again if supposed to be fit for accessibility the space at either side of the bed was a struggle as it was only about 18 inches between the wall and bed. There was a pitched roof and beams which I know are hard to keep clean but when we turned the spot lights on there were cobwebs on lights which were above the stable door and were in reach of being kept clean. Overall the rooms let this place down but we didn't want to spoil things for our grandsons big day so just put up with it. The wedding day itself was lovely, well organised and all the staff we met were very nice. Breakfast and the food at the wedding was nice but we also had Sunday lunch on arrival the day before the wedding which came luke warm, as did some of the main courses at the wedding. The drinks are extortionate £29 for wine in the bar and £ 45 for prosecco in the wedding hall. Overall we enjoyed the wedding but the rooms let it down.

Loved my overnight stay for my partners birthday. We stayed in the deluxe room with hot tub. The hot tub was perfect with lovely views from the room. Loved the decor of the room. Breakfast was lovely. Lovely surroundings. Will definitely be back.

Came for my sister's wedding and the day could not have gone better for them. Staff were wonderful, the interiors are tastefully decorated and the rooms were comfortable and well provisioned. Minor personal nitpick (specific to me) was that the live band for the wedding had the volume turned up too loud, but I don't think that's something the venue are responsible for and I think I was the only one in the party who was bothered by it.

Family wedding. Great venue especially if you get good weather. Excellent food and service. Extortionate bar prices as expected!

We stayed at Runa Farm this weekend for one night for an anniversary evening away and we’re also booked for October for our wedding. We stayed in one of the courtyard suites with a hot tub and had a fantastic stay from start to finish. The staff in both the hotel and Smithy restaurant were really helpful and pleasant. Particular shout out to Mark who remembered us from our venue tour. Another shout out to Joshua who hunted down a hairdryer for me at no hassle! The room is one of the larger ones and we loved the outlook onto the fields and the aesthetic. The evening food was great and the breakfast was top notch (we expected a buffet but the cooked breakfasts were actually made to order so even better). We’re really excited for the big day and I have no doubt we’ll be staying frequently in the future!

We stayed at Runa Farm for one night on a brief visit to the area, and were very impressed with the room, the efficient staff and the food in the evening. We look forward to staying again in the future.

I'm rating this experience with two stars due to an unexpected additional charge of £100 upon arrival. Despite booking what was advertised on Secret Escapes as a Superior Room with a Hot Tub, we were informed at check-in that we had only reserved a superior room. Our evidence from the Secret Escapes portal, clearly displaying a room with a Hot Tub, did not sway management to acknowledge their oversight or waive the additional fee. Consequently, we reluctantly paid the extra charge, having chosen this specific accommodation for the hot tub experience. This situation detracted from what could have been a five-star review. However, I must commend the reception, restaurant, and bar staff for their exceptional service. It's a pity that management did not mirror this level of customer care, leaving both us and the receptionist in an uncomfortable position, and diminishing our overall value as guests. Update 11 April: It appears management only respond to positive reviews. This review could quite easily have been turned around by simply acknowledging their mistake.

My partner & I stayed the night to celebrate our engagement. We couldn’t have picked a nicer place to stay!! The location was wonderful with great views and plenty of parking. Staff were friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. Food in the Smithy was delightful (the creme brûlée was HUGE) and staff left chocolate & a card in the room for our special trip. The room was clean and cosy - exceptionally beautiful! The bed was super firm which I didn’t mind but my partner struggled with. Also I’m not sure if there was any air con or fans so summer may be tricky? Next time I’ll bring flip flops to get to the hot tub but overall, YES there will be a next time YES we now want to get married here and YES I would recommend. This was one of the best hotel trips we have ever had!!!

A great experience to have from checking in, to the entertainment at the wedding as well as the breakfast in the morning. A pleasurable stay in which I'd recommended to anyone.

Had lunch: fish and chips, fruit crumble. Very generous portions. Very tasty. Lovely, attentive staff.

We visited Runa as part of our first year anniversary celebrations, having been married there last year. Our meals were lovely and although slightly expensive for a Saturday lunch the portion sizes were large and the food did taste great.

We have just been to a wedding to Runa Farm and had a great experience, Wedding was fantastic (Thanks to Nic's attentiveness throughout the day). Food was great during the day and so was the service and facilities. The evening food was a bit different, after a short period this actually ran out, even though a lot more people had been catered for, our friend actually went back for some fries and was told that he couldn't have any as he had 3 roast potatoes!! Regardless of this, we still had a great time. The venue is very nice, staff are friendly. Would I go back, yes I certainly would. Come on Runa, sort these little things out!! Tip, the extra beds in the rooms are for little kids

Runa Farm is such a fab venue for weddings, i love photographing weddings here! As always the food is fantastic, super helpful staff and plenty of lovely locations for photos! I can’t wait for me next wedding here!

Attended for a wedding. Beautiful venue and the staff were really kind and thoughtful. We had our baby with us and they heated his food up and offered him biscuits. Lovely place

The room and the staff on the venue were decent, I was a bit disappointed to see the rate drop so much online compare to what I paid for almost over £100 nearly and when I wanted to get the free cancellation a few days before when I emailed I didn’t get a reply back until the day where the free cancellation was not a option, I asked at the hotel on checking in is there anything they can offer me since I’ve been charged a fortune compare to the on the day rate and nothing not even a free drink voucher or free breakfast which I thought was a bit disappointing considering I paid £309 for one night not to mention the £100 I spent in the bar and the money the following day at the wedding, plus the room I had the following day which was over £200 so almost £700 in 2 days and not even a free breakfast. The room I had on the second day has dried blood spots on the pillow and the glass on one side of the bedside table was half full still with water or some sort of clear liquid that must have been left from the previous person in the room- so the house keeping slacked a bit there, the toilet roll that was on the holder wasn’t a full new roll and was half used too. Which raised a few questions That being said the wedding was amazing and flowed so well, the staff that were all involved with the wedding were amazing and hats off to them, the master of the ceremonies was a absolute gent and a true professional ( thanks for the treble neat vodka) all the bar staff were a joy and very friendly- just a shame about the accommodation side of the staff

Runa Farm is such an amazing venue, it’s cosy, laid back, welcoming and very trendy; without the pretentiousness. We visited Runa for our 1st wedding anniversary, we got married there on 23/02/23. We had our meal in the Smithy restaurant and Josh (the newest Josh) was our server. He was excellent, very polite, personable and his attention to detail is second to none. He made the experience that bit more enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Amy on reception was very welcoming and accommodating. She went out of her way to ensure our stay was perfect, which it was. Emma in the Smithy recognised us from when we got married. She’s such a hard worker and has the restaurant ran like clock work. The staff can’t do enough for you. The food is cooked to perfection and the rooms are immaculate. Can’t fault Runa at all and we are really looking forward to our next visit.

Had a really lovely experience here at my friends wedding. The venue was lovely and the food good. Maybe some more bar staff needed as we all waited too long to be served.

My daughter had her wedding at Runa Farm, from 7am with the makeup for the bride and bridesmaids to the wedding and the wedding breakfast, the evening event , was wonderful the staff and wedding team are second to none , and the rooms are brilliant,

Myself and my partner had a wonderful time at Runa Farm for a little break away with our dog. The room was beautiful and we loved the dog treats and bed all set out. The communication before the stay was exemplary too. Unfortunately our shower gel was just water and a little disappointing. We dined at The Smithy which was lovely, the cocktails were fabulous, but when greeted we weren’t given a drinks or dog menu and had to ask for water for the dog. These are tiny faults and overall we had an absolutely lovely time. All staff were very accommodating and we will enquire about our future wedding here.

Vastly different from when it was the Jersey Farm. Felt it was a little pricy for what was on offer.

Forst time working this venue... what a great space for a wedding! The place was magical and the staff were brilliant!

We attended a wedding and booked a room here. We booked a family room as I had my 2 children with me. The room was very spacious and clean, the room we booked had a hot tub in, towels and robes was provided. My children loved the hot tub and the built in bunk beds, they also was very happy that they was able to have hot chocolate as this was in the room with the tea and coffee. The morning after we went down for breakfast, there was plenty to choose from and something for everyone. The cooked breakfast was delicious and arrived piping hot. The staff was amazing and always happy to help, I would book again if I was up that way.

Style over substance, tiny rooms, grotty hot tub shed, Great wedding venue, the wedding was beautiful, but accommodation let’s it down, our hot tub was in a grotty shed with a dead plant in the corner and a plastic corrugated roof, not inviting at all and nothing like the photos, we wouldn’t return

Beautiful room, exceptionally clean, huge comfy bed. Would stay again in a heartbeat chocs were an added bonus! Breakfast was gorgeous and plenty of choice!

Wedding Party. The venue and food were excellent. The entire day ran very smoothly and was very well organised. We stayed overnight and could not fault the room or the breakfast the next morning. A special mention must go to the staff who were faultless throughout (very helpful, polite and efficient) . Our only gripe ( we were not the only ones who thought this) were the the price of the drinks throughout the day. We realise that you pay a slight premium at these events but £7:20 for a pint of lager and £3:00 for a glass of coke were extortionate (plus there were no draught beers available) . Overall though an excellent wedding venue ++++++

This was our 2nd visit to Runa Farm and it was equally as enjoyable as our first. This place is beautiful. We stayed in the Junior Suite this time and what a beautiful, spacious room it was. The food in the restaurant was absolutely top tier as it was on our last visit. I honestly can't sing the praises of this place enough. We can't wait for our next visit

Attended a wedding and stayed overnight in a family suite. Room was beautiful and very clean. Very luxurious feel. The wedding was lovely. The staff were very friendly, the food was delicious and the venue was just perfect.

Room was disappointing. Door wouldn't close Lights flickered Kettle in a cupboard so making hot drink in the dark..

Lovely staff amazing food.If you go to an event in the winter take a warm coat with you.We attended a wedding recently and they must have had a problem with the heating it was freezing inside,Thank you for replying it would seem alot of people put there coats on to avoid the cold inside

We had a lovely one night stay for my partners birthday, the room was spacious and clean and decorated nicely. It had a big freestanding bath which was perfect to relax in. The staff were incredibly helpful and gave great customer service. They contacted me before we stayed which felt personal and a great touch, it made our stay extra special.

Welcoming staff in a beautiful location. Our room was in the courtyard and the only fault was a warped bathroom door with ment it didn’t shut properly. We had a golden retriever with us and the dog welcome pack was a nice touch. Staff were so helpful and polite nothing was an issue for them Would certainly be back in the future

I had a lovely Christmas lunch,the food was excellent but more importantly the staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Hotel sold and under redevelopement, so not applicable now. We had stayed at Jersey Farm( the pastime was August 2019) and for many years had stayed there when visiting relatives. So sorry that it has closed as the food, accommodation and staff were excellent.

I had my meal as part of a murder mystery stay. the food was excellent, I had the garlic mushrooms, which was in a creamy sauce not the normal way of it normally in breaded in garlic butter. The main was roast pork again this was beautifully cooked not fatty and full of flavour..The veg were again nicely cooked and roast potaoes were wonderful. Desert of the choclate fudge cake although really nice would have been better hot

Had a lovely meal as usual. We've been coming here for a lot of years but not been for a while and it was as good as ever. Food was first class. Staff were really pleasant. we won't wait as long next time.

What a wonderful place to go with a large family for a New Year meal. Super service from all the staff. The food is always of high quality with as much as you want.

We have been here 4 times now and the food is always so good. The portions are huge - too big really because we couldn't eat it all - and taste so good. My hubby had carvery first night then steak and kidney pie second night. I had veggie canneloni first night then cheese and leak pie second night. All meals were very good, taste and presentation excellent and service always good. We went for deserts the first night - mmmmm so delicious but admitted defeat the second night. Breakfasts were also good with lots of choice and again beautifully presented. I would highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay with great rooms, amazing food and friendly and efficient staff. Thanks everyone, we had a lovely break.

Found easily with satnav, met up with family for sister in-laws Birthday ,nice and cosy in the bar , our part of the dinning room was empty except for us so that was great as the children could play on the floor with there toys ,. We had a carvery lunch all the meat you wanted and all the trimmings to go with it .. All very enjoyable and tasty lots of nice veggies too.. Good assortment of puddings hot or cold . Don't know the cost as other members paid ..... But will be back ....

Off the cuff visit to indulge my whim of a Sunday roast, on a Friday lunchtime. Had roast pork, Yorkshire pud, apple sauce and gravy with so much veg it came in it’s own platter.Just over 20 pounds for two including drinks.Service was great, food delicious and enough to feed an army.Gets better every visit. Heaven.

As a visiting speaker for the local U3A group I enjoyed a carvery lunch here that had been prepared for a coach party also visiting the venue. The carvery was excellent, delicious meat and vegetables, and a wide choice. The desserts were absolutely first class, and would have been appropriate for a five star hotel. The room where the meeting was held was comfortable and spacious, with good AV facilities that we did not use. The venue has a large car park, and is just outside the town of Barnard Castle, and the staff i encounterered were enthusiastic, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended

Visited today. The carvery offered a vegetarian option of a slab of quiche (I’d say) with the usual roast dinner accompaniments of roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings & vegetables. It was not a winning combination. Wish I’d taken a photo. Potatoes & Yorkshire puddings were a little over cooked. Food was served hot.The chef kindly made vegetarian gravy to order. Other guests had traditional Sunday Roast. They mostly enjoyed their dinners. Beef was a little chewy so my husband left this & he found potatoes to be over cooked too, but he enjoyed the Turkey. Chicken Chasseur was a hit.Staff were friendly & we were seated quickly.I wouldn’t return. More thought needs to go into a Vegetarian Sunday Roast. Little Wellingtons, Nut Roast (avoiding peanuts), cauliflower cheese etc etc but quiche ...

We Went as a group of friends for our Christmas dinner it was very enjoyable we then went into another room where we had a singer and bingo it was in two halves in the interval we had some mince pies and tea or coffee

Great Sunday Carvery with ample portions of meat and a good veggie option, mushrooms in sauce. Excellent home cooked desserts and a round of drinks was cheap. You will need to book

Having eaten here on several Sundays at their carvery, we decided to try a mid week lunch.

Our family booked a table of 12 for Sunday carvery not a problem, it was very busy, we had a lovely young lad Bayleigh seat us and was very polite nothing was a problem when asked for anything, manners from him were fantastic, food was great will be back

Always heard good reviews from family members on this place, delivered with only a minor comment or two.

Four of us stayed Here for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble. It was peaceful as it was situated up a long drive away from the main road. The breakfasts were very good as was the Carvery which we had on the evening. Comfortable rooms and nice hot shower. Would recommend this place

Found this lovely on a travel website, it was a good find, good warm welcome knowledgeable host, our room was off a courtyard it was very well appointed, we had a twin room, beds very comfortable and clean, full bathroom, good cupboard and drawer space, good hospitality tray, breakfast very good,large range of fruit and yogurt, and a good selection of cooked items. My husband had the kippers one morning said they were great. We had dinner there once, all served piping hot, just one comment for us the portions were large. Would thoroughly recommend this establishment.

Honestly cannot recommend this place enough, no booking normally needed unless it's a Sunday ( normally busy with carvaries) .

Came here with my family for the Sunday lunch and all left feeling very full. We all got ample amounts of meat and veg and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Thank you and we will be back!!

Visited whilst on holiday with family. I have to say this was one of the best carvery meals I have ever had. The food was fantastic and the amount of meant served up was amazing. Would highly recommend this place.

Its been a while since I visited the Jersey Farm and nothing has changed - including the décor! The Sunday carvery is good value and tasted good but the décor is in desperate need of updating! Maybe the owners are too busy making money to notice the peeling paintwork and worn out furniture? Its in danger of becoming a down market venue. Its been a popular venue for over 40 years but its time to take a good hard look at it - inside and out!

First visit in years last night (despite someone local actively telling us "it's not that good now") but we persevered as we were in the area, What a superb meal! What wonderful customer service!

Have visited this place once or twice a year for the last 10 years and have never been disappointed. We usually visit for Sunday lunch as the restaurant offers a late sitting, which is normally less crowded. Their carvery is first rate and the choice of desserts lovely. If you like generous portions at very reasonable prices, then this is the place to go.

We had the carvery. Pie. And Berger's all of Which are fantastic. Very helpful staff very good size portions. I whould highly recommend eating here. 5 stars all the way

Visited on Sunday. Lovely carvery, big selection of desserts. Bit crowded so service bit slow, but still worth to wait. Definitely to be recommended.

First of all we visited Bowes Museum, which was very interesting. Then came here for our early Christmas Lunch. The carvery was excellent with a good choise of vegetables.
