This tea shop in pretty Staindrop village is a gem! Well worth parking up and having coffee, lunch or cake/ cream tea... and their Sunday roast is the best in the whole area (but you must reserve a table on Sundays, as it's so popular!)... The menu is extremely varied and everything is homemade using fresh ingredients... there is literally something delicious for everybody, incl. vegetarian and vegan options... The owners are very hands-on and really support the community with their wondeful food and good cheer (incl. making local deliveries). I cannot recommend highly enough and have gone back time and time again!!

A wonderful - hidden gem of a restaurant that is open every day between 10-3pm. We were staying in the village for a week, so tried this place 3 times - each time we took the food away to enjoy at the cottage we had hired as we had dogs. Even though one of our family was vegetarian, there was plenty of choice for all four of us each time. Our first meal was Sweet Potato & Chickpea Curry, which came with Rice and a small Nan Bread each. Lovely tasty meal with plenty of flavours. We ordered the Sunday Beef Roast as well as a Vegetarian Roast for the following day, and the lady offered to deliver it to our cottage. Again, wonderful quality food with plenty on the plates to satisfy us. The 3rd meal was Vegetable Lasagne & a Vegetable Risotto with Mediterranean Veg. Beautiful flavours on both dishes - again with plenty of food on the plates. All the food was excellent value - especially for the price, and we could not recommend it highly enough. Yum, yum, yum!!

Ate here Tues lunchtime as we were staying in the village on a short break holiday & discovered on arrival Mon afternoon that the village pub no longer serves food. By Tues lunchtime we were starving! Service at the Country tea room was superb, food was good, simple home cooked style, tasty and filling. Great value too for the 3 course OAP menu for 2 (homemade soup, steak pie & veg, then jam roly poly & custard) + tea for two also. All for £22. Would definitely go back. Be aware that they close mid afternoon & there is currently nowhere else open in the village to get a hot meal!

Visited as we had travelled up from down south and was stopping in the area. This was the only place that was open we could find. Had a jacket potato with Tuna. When it arrived I realised that you must have to say with butter as it didn’t have any but the topping was on top. Apart from that the portion was generous and came accompanied with a salad garnish. It was very filling and you had plenty of Tuna. My daughter just wanted chips and these were cooked lovely and crispy. Tea was served in a pot and you get a jug of hot water so you can have more than one cup. The service was good and the cakes looked amazing but sadly never tried. Would definitely visit again when next in the area. Maybe to try the Sunday lunch that I know you have to book for.

Genuinely unhappy. Quite frankly I’m disgusted. Why should I bother to organise a table for Sunday lunch?Just turn up unannounced and management just push your table aside and bang down a table right beside you and push you to one side and wallah! My food was wonderful, but the experience was miserable by being shoved aside just to get in an extra table.Horrible.We rebelled by ordering a take away pud, strawberry pavlova!...then left...but wish we hadn’t because of the after effects!A poor experience after two good ones.Unhappy to say the least.

Been here several times for cake or lunch but the first time for breakfast for ages and it was just awful. The scrambled eggs tasted like powdered ones with the cheapest sausages you could imagine but the worst was the bacon had gone off. It had started to turn black and if you got it out of your fridge you would throw it away but it was served to me!! In fairness I wasn't charged after I complained but it should never have been given to a human being in the first place. The waitress was lovely. Place was clean and tables had glass tops on top of embroidered cloths. Food looked good.Toilets were quite impressive on entering first part but then became storage area and chairs were blocking the fire escape door-this is unsafe and I suggest chairs removed quickly for safety. We've been here before a couple of years back and yes I agree with other reviews the shop had been looking a little jaded last time we came. However, the proprietors have done themselves proud with the new look, still traditional and cosy but with a fresh face. The food as on our previous visits was traditional tea shop fayre, cooked to order and well worth the wait. If in this part of the Durham dales, call in either before or after exploring the beautiful and often overlooked local countryside for some fine food, a refreshing cuppa and some lovely homemade cake.

The menu was really good especially as 2 of us are quite fussy eaters. The food was fresh and good quality. Although i didnt order it, it was great to see classics on the menu like liver which is hard to find anywhere now. What made the visit however, was the staff who were very friendly and helpful. Tracey (I think) was very friendly especially with our young daughter who gave her an extra piece of shortbread as she enjoyed it that much. She was also very helpful giving us directions to were we were heading. We just regretted not being able to visit again before heading home as we would have loved to try more from the menu but no doubt we will be back next time we are passing through.

Have tried this restaurant twice now and food is excellent. Sunday lunch was exceptional. The roast beef was the tenderest I have had when eating out. Unfortunately I was unable to sample any of the desserts as the main course was very filling. The staff were lovely. I am looking forward to frequenting the restaurant more when I move to the village.

This is a totally reliable small restaurant in Staindrop. Lovely staff and a helpful owner who is always willing to please. A wide range of foods and the Sunday roasts are super (worth booking a table). The highlight is the range of home made desserts.

Driving through Staindrop today, we came across this lively little tea shop. Wide variety off meals and I found it difficult to choose what to have.

My mother and myself visit on a weekly basis. As soon as we come through the door we are welcomed by the staff. We always enjoy the food, which is well presented. The last time we visited, my mother had steak pie and I had chicken and leak pie. For desert we had some lemon roulade. We both enjoyed our meals. The staff are always very friendly and we both look forward to our weekly visit. A big thank you to all the staff. You are doing a great job!!! We look forward to coming in the future..

I've been here on a good few occasions and although it's a nice quaint tea room & the food isn't bad I never enjoy my food as theirs always 'snail trails' on the floor! It really does turn my stomach and I can't believe the owners or other diners haven't seen them or complained about them too, it's really very off putting and I don't like to go now but my husband doesn't get bothered by it and still likes to go. My husband always enjoys the food but he does tend to stick to the same thing, I also do the same but the portion size changes and the taste too. I only go now for a hot chocolate with cream which is lovely.

Beautiful little place to stop, set on the main street with easy parking. We had a window table from which to watch the world go by. Very inviting, clean & cosy with a lovely non-intrusive atmosphere. The Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I had a Scrambled egg & bacon Muffin and it was so tasty & well presented. I am a visitor to the area & went in with my friend's Mum who had a Sausage Sandwich, served as requested. No scrimping on the portions and we had fab filter coffee served with Shortbread Fingers & a Happy smile from our Waitress. The Rest Room is clean, tidy & wheelchair accessible. They serve Sunday Lunch, booking advisable, so will try that next time. Very enjoyable indeed. There is a beautiful old Church very nearby & a lovely river walk. Definitely recommend a visit.

The food is fine but not homemade and bought in and reheated. The lady owner is the problem , she likes to hold court. You really cannot avoid her harsh tones which makes it a lot less relaxing experience. She is very brusque with her staff and a bit of a know it all. That said, the staff are lovely and seem to soldier on despite her haranguing them like a bossy mother hen.

I have been here a couple of times. They have been so accommodating and friendly, and I got a piece of shortbread with my coffee :)The owner (I think) was very welcoming and she dealt with some very rude customers with grace and respect. I don't think I would have been so polite.Love popping in on my way through Staindrop. Beautiful place.

Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Both dog and baby friendly. Nice and quick for food to come out. Ordered some cheese on toast which wasn’t on the menu for our little one and they very happily sorted this out and provided childrens cutlery and plates.
