The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Visited with friends for the flrst time just before Christmas. It's a lovely old pub and our servers were friendly and welcoming. The food was nicely presented, tasty and filling. Some nice vegan options - I had the gnocchi which was plentiful and tasted really good. The salmon looked fab and apparently was delicious. I think the slightly high prices for village pub food might be offputting for some, but it wouldnt stop me from returning - plus they welcome dogs in the bar I believe which is always a thumbs up from me!

I used to come here with my husband, kids and friends when we lived in Harpenden years ago . It was good then, however, this has now been elevated to another level. I must say well done To all of the team because I was totally impressed with not only the service but, most of all the the skill and obvious dedication and attention to detail in preparation of the food , but also the quality of the produce used . My sister had the beef which melted in her mouth. The flavours of everything was amazing. The horse radish sauce was like no other - light , whipped and strong. My loin of pork was so tender and juicy with the most waver like cracking.. and that burnt apple sauce… OMG I need that recipe please 🙏 The cream brûlée was addictive! I’m not saying more as I am definitely wanting to come back and am frightened that it will be fully booked as it was when I requested a table . Superb Thai meal. Service was very good indeed, young staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Food was excellent, fresh and good portions. Good value for money. We could not have enjoyed the experience more. We will be back.

Had an average meal and got completely robbed. Went with a group of three and we all got £100 parking charge on our cars. Went at night when the signs were not marked properly and no staff mentioned the parking on entry. Ultimately this company got the bill paid plus an extra £100 per head on parking fees. I am happy to amend this review if they can make it right. If your reading this now you can assume the above never happened. Be careful of this place as you could leave like me.... Feeling scammed

Very comfortable Public house, with accommodation (if you need it) beside the A140. Plentiful Parking and lots of space inside if you're after a lunch. Easy to get lunch out, with a decent menu, unlike most local places that seem to concentrate on meals rather than lunches! Had Chicken Club sandwiches there twice - very good! Must try some of the other choices on the menu!

We visited end of September, bar staff said they were closing that day.

I ordered a banana chocolate muffin and it was missing in my order. Twice this has happened now.

It's our fav place for beer and pool 🎱..

We visited Friday Street cafe a couple of weeks ago and we had a most delicious breakfast. But more than that the service was the best we’ve had. Curtis was lovely, super friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. His brother is the manager and the family atmosphere they have created was warm and welcoming. We highly recommend this restaurant, it’s definitely one of the best we’ve been to.

Chicken missing. Phoned & guy who prepd admitted he didnt add it & apologized, manager said couldnt do anything as rest of food was put on a plate! Its now my fault? Paid for chicken but zero chicken in meal! No refund/credit/send out offered by M.

4 adults 2 children on pre booked bar table for a birthday lunch. Starters mediocre, Sunday roasts were less than mediocre. Poor quality beef, overcooked yorkshires, soft roast potatoes, kids meal wasn't what was ordered, chicken strips of cold chicken with equally cold chips. Sent back then arrived as quarter chicken joint. Luckily a senior staff member came and we reordered a pizza. They refunded the cost of the kids meal. When you pay in excess of £160 for meals and drinks and then come home to eat, you know you won’t be returning.
