The Woodman Inn & Carvery Restaurant in Welwyn Hatfield

VERY small potion of meat compared to when we came last time, and I upgraded to the large plate! ...it appears the cool has changed again....the potatoes tasted like they were not seasoned and were dry ( plenty of salt , pepper and oil / crispy , would have made them so much better ...but they were soft , mushy... Staff friendly as always, no issues there, just the food...shame, as its a nice place

This is a great traditional old Inn with hard working staff always ready to serve drinks and hospitality over the counter. Winter or summer - in the bars or outside in the lovely gardens. Family and friends all feel at home and a lovely place to meet with dog friendly welcome too.

Had a lovely time today the staff are fantastic very friendly just a couple of things I would change the cauliflower cheese needs to be more saucey and more cheese, the Yorkshire puddings very bland ( you should make your own) you also need green cabbage in my opinion didn’t like the veg nothing wrong with them just my taste. Little pricey for a carvery but the atmosphere brilliant .

I am delighted to extend the most heartfelt thank you to the Woodman Inn for the impeccable experience we had with their private room hire during my partner's 30th birthday celebration on 01/03/2024! Despite having a tight budget, opting for their private space proved to be the best decision and we had a wonderful time. I would like to express my gratitude to Jana and the entire team for their exceptional assistance and professionalism throughout the planning process. Their guidance in selecting suitable catering for approximately 35 attendees, which also happened to fall within our budgetary constraints, was particularly appreciated, as was Jana's patience with all my questions! While the option to utilise the venue's speakers was generously offered, our decision to bring our own was seamlessly accommodated. Additionally, the flexibility in allowing an early setup for decorations was a testament to the team's commitment to ensuring a tailored and memorable event. When I got there to set up, I was blown away by the thoughtful organisation of the space, with a designated annex for the dancefloor and cake presentation, as well as a separate area for guests to sit down and eat, which was definitely appreciated by my grandparents who weren't a fan of the playlist! The food was all served on lovely warm hotplates (those typically used for their delicious Sunday roasts). It was the perfect accompaniment to a night of heavy drinking for many of us that we could return to throughout the night! I also couldn't believe that none of us ever had to wait for a drink, the team were always attentive, despite them having a busy Friday night on their other side of the pub! I truly want to extend my sincere thanks to Jana, Jack, and the rest of the team whose individual efforts culminated in a seamless and enjoyable celebration. I also want to apologise if anyone else told me their names - the wine isn't quite letting me remember! The team's willingness to assist with post-event cleanup and the gracious handling of minor requests, such as the disposal of confetti, underscored their commitment to guest satisfaction. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the Woodman Inn for events of varying sizes. Despite our party numbering about 35-40 attendees, there was ample room for more without being cramped, though we also never felt the room was too big for us either! My deepest appreciation to the Woodman Inn team for contributing to the success of Patrick's birthday celebration, and we eagerly anticipate returning for future lunches! Staff are attentive and helpful and the atmosphere was good as it was full (or nearly full). The food was ok, meat was cooked well but the accompaniments were let down a bit but that might be because it was a carvery. Its well priced and the beer is positively cheap (less than a £5 for a pint).

Lovely, welcoming staff and delicious, home-cooked food. Try the specials board! This is not food that has been bought in and reheated. This is proper food. Really friendly pub!

I first went to the woodman bar, carvers and restaurant in August/September 2023 and then again in December 2023 and January 2024. During summer I went there for lunch with friends and then December I went there for news eve party. The pub is soo beautiful with lovely bar tenders, they are soo lovely and eager to help always. The atmosphere is soo conducive I really enjoyed the food too. I will recommend it to anyone who visit London. It is a country pub but soo lovely if you need a quite place though lovely to chill.

Good country pub, a little out of the way with nice friendly staff. Enjoyed fish & chips with salad and a meat lasagne. Guinness & Stella Artois was good reasonable prices.

A cosy quaint pub on a Saturday afternoon. The 2 ladies working the restaurant were absolutely wonderfully attentive, but equally gave us the time to decide what we wanted to order and checked back with us several times to ensure we were OK. 5star customer service.

Lots of staff available. We must have gone at a quiet time as lovely and relaxed. Food was yummy, and the pub was traditional. Thank you for a lovely Sunday dinner x

Ridiculous price for coffee - cappuccino £4.95 and black americano £3.50. Sadly because of the extortionate price I would not feel able to return here. The member of staff was very polite and I have no issue with him, but the management should not be ripping off members of the public this way. The most expensive cappuccino I have EVER had!

Great pub full of locals always willing to have a chat. Food has gone up a few notches and is excellent quality. Staff are second to none, always welcoming and willing to please. Highly recommended and well worth a visit.

We stayed over at The Woodman in the car park in our Motorhome. A very well looked after hostelry, it felt cared for. The gardens were beautiful, with lovely hanging baskets, all areas were clean and tidy. The toilets looked recently refurbished and were so clean. Very impressed. We had Caesar salad for dinner- it was excellent. Good choice of Ales, The staff were friendly and the service was great. I would not hesitate to recommend The Woodman.

Top quality carvery and restaurant/pub, not too crowded, just right. Food and service are excellent, very impressed. Nice unspoilt traditional country pub not far from Potters Bar and Barnet. The Abbott ale was fresh and smooth. Food is reasonably priced for what you get. Staff very friendly and professional. They cater for vegetarians and vegans too. Highly recommend this place. Miles better than the big chain places.

Just drink here. Food not the best in the past..

Food was pretty good, had the gammon and turkey carvery. Downside first, stuffing tasted great but was very little, only a small ball of it and the yorkies were more like the small frozen ones you get from supermarkets. Everything else was very tasty and nice, had the gammon and turkey, felt like I got quite a bit of meat unlike some other places. The roast potatoes and other veg were very tasty. Could improve the yorkies and stuffing and be amazing, but it's still a great place with very nice food.

Fabulous pub, really great lunch menu and excellent ploughman's. Staff are bubbly and friendly. The regular customers are also super friendly and chat to everyone, great atmosphere. The hanging baskets are wonderful and make it look so inviting. Their award is well deserved.

This a great village type pub and carvery have been quite a few times on a Sunday for their roast carvery dinner never been disappointed decent beer and a big car park

The quality of the food can vary here but usually acceptable. However, beware - if you order a cappuccino afterwards you will be charged only a tiny amount short of £5!

Excellent award winning local public house

It's a lovely little pub, with friendly albeit very slow staff. The carvery is nice enough, but for nearly £20 a head, 2 slices of meat, 1 frozen Yorkshire and 3 basic veg choices, it seems very overpriced.

Hands down the best chips I’ve ever eaten.

Six of us went for lunch yesterday. Five had the carvery and one ordered the tomato pasta. The carvery was nothing special, not very hot, there was a long hair alongside the hot plates which we pointed out, with no response from the carver who just removed it and carried on. Wasn't worth £17.95 per head for sure! Far too pricey for what you get. The tomato pasta was hard and had to go back. Unfortunately we won't be using again

Popped in here a few weeks back on a Friday night and was served by a young waitress called, Lilly. My family and I were extremely satisfied and pleased with her polite demeanour and superb service along with the rest of the staff. the food was good too. I would highly recommend it here!!! Fantastic staff and service!

Awful pizza and garlic bread, raw dough with cheddar cheese- Unpalatable. When we raised the complaint the proprietor, she was rude, dismissive and defensive. Just such poor service and quality of food. Have also been there for a carvery previously which is hit and miss. Avoid this place for the owner’s attitude.

This is a proper pub run magnificently by Jana and her team with an amazingly friendly atmosphere. The beer is always the best quality as is the food in the bar or the restaurant. Their home made goulash is so good and the Sunday Carvery always has fresh good quality meats. Cannot recommend it highly enough. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Full carvery on Sundays and Bank Holidays, others days it's the same just prepared straight from the kitchen, equally lovely food! We even got some extra roasted potatoes! Very cosy and it has a very warm feel to it! Definitely recommend!

Very lovely food and everyone was friendly and helpful Had 2 separate birthday celebrations here and I cannot fault anything, nothing was too much trouble. The staff were amazingly patient and the food is always delicious. Highly recommend this venue! Thank you and well done to all.

Expensive for a carvery and food not cooked well. Potatoes were neither crisp or fluffy and peas like bullets. Wont return.

Excellent food and customer service.

We went here yesterday for our roast dinner. We didn't pre book so it was good to be able to turn up, and the service we recieved was very quick and attentive. We self served our plate similar to what Toby carvery offers. It became apparent when eating the food, the meat was cold, understandable its been out for a while and the roast potatoes lacked taste. For around almost £20 each it was falling well below expectations. Before we left we tried to point some of our concerns so they can improve on it. The manager who came over was very dismissive, stating that we were the only ones to complain, that we come to there with the intention of not paying the full amount before we even arrived (we paid the full bill) and that our plates were not cleared (not true again as my friend left all his meat). We left there feeling very disappointed and will not be recommending this place to anyone.

Food is nice but portions are absolutely tiny and service is poor, won’t come back Editing to add that the dessert portion was so small it quite literally made me laugh, it was 2 bites of cake and costed £7, I am keeping 2/5 as the food does taste nice but wow the value for money is non existent, time to go home and eat more

We were visiting as it was my 70th birthday. Anagha sorted out cocktails for me as I wasn't driving. We both had the carvery, and the food was excellent. I always visit the toilets and they were spotless and clean. I would highly recommend this venue and it is 5-starr excellent. If you enjoy great food visit this place as soon as you will not be disappointed.

We waited 40 minutes for our meal, the others in group had finished eating and we had to chase for our meal. The excuse we got that the kitchen was short staffed, if this was the case why were we not told about this when we sat down. It seemed all they were concerned about was the carvery. The waitresses were pleasant enough! So one more star for them.

Woodman carvory is a lovely place to eat, drink and chill. Recommend the goulash. It was delicious. The pub is very cute and the garden is really lovely. Nice, large pub. Two real ales on tap. I had a good meal (chicken Kiev). Part of Britstops and loads of space for vans.

We tend to go on a Sunday for the carvery which is great value and really good with all the trimmings and choice of meats. That said the other items on the menu are varied and well cooked and the steaks are good. Staff are always friendly.

I come here most saturdays with friends after we play football. They have a big screen with Sky and BT so we can watch the games there too. Lovely staff, nice food and good beer. There is also a garden in the front and a beer garden at the back.

Have to admit it gone a little bit down hill from the last time I was there ordered 2 x blt sandwhich and a portion of chips 2 drinks and payed chips didn't arrive when I asked I was told that they forgot to put the chips through and it was going to cost me an extra cost so not sure if I paid for chips first time or not. So I would advise to check your order.

Went yesterday for my husbands birthday. With family. The Sunday Carvery is lovely. So much choice. Plenty of meat and vegetables. Staff really lovely. It gets very busy so best to book. Especially if large Group. Very reasonable prices. Children get a free ice cream pudding with their Carvery. Nice garden. Plenty free parking. We took birthday cake which staff brought out with vandals on lit.

We booked the function room at the Woodman Inn for our Christmas party so were lucky enough to have a private area for our Secret Santa festivities and the staff kindly allowed us to play our own Christmas music and provided Christmas crackers for us too! The carvery buffet was delicious and really good value for money (really big portions!!) and there were veggie and vegan options too so everyone was happy :) Jana the manager was very accommodating and helpful in setting up the booking and all the staff were so friendly - we felt super spoilt! Couldn’t recommend this pub highly enough, we will definitely be back😊 thank you again!!

Had our Anniversary lunch here was Roast beef it was served quickly and the meal was very nice Friendly and efficient staff made us feel most welcome. Not our first visit and wont be our last as enjoyed our meal as usual.

Party of 8 hungry adults & 5 kids went on a busy Sunday afternoon, so granted they'd be rushed but they accommodated us. Staff were polite and friendly until we pointed out a few issues; they said vegetarian carvery (nut roast) for 3 people would take about 10 minutes to come out so as there was a long que to get the trimmings etc we joined and collected the other foods. 35 mins later, no nut roast!! Asked again, told 5 more mins...another 15 mins later it arrived. The rest of the party had finished their food by this time. Then the gravy came out another 5 mins later! The 'nut roast' has no nuts, isn't crunchy, was soggy and it's made with rice and sultanas! Tasted horrible, we sent them back but they still charged us. Staff became grumpy when we complained about this. Then when the bill came, they'd charge for an extra 2 carvery which we didn't order! Previous experience here was fine but not this time. Probably wont go back. Shame really.

what a lovely, friendly pub with freshly cooked meals. Hubby had roast turkey dinner and me the beef, oh and of course puds. The staff are amazing and work so hard, pub ideal stop off for us travelling down from Lincoln en route to Brighton 👍

Ordered the mixed grill today the meat was all dry presentation shocking. Did not eat it and left. Won’t ever be eating here again the chef could do with some cooking lessons I’m sure my 4 year old granddaughter could do better!! So disappointing 🙁 and not worth £15 each

Recently went to the Woodman Inn for a nice pub lunch. The food was amazing and the chef really knows how to cook. I was also blown away by the service, it was great. In particular, a waiter called Amy was always polite and keen to help us. Best service from a waiter that I have seen in a long time. Just thought i'd mention it on here as I forgot to say it in person to her and the chef.100% I recommend this pub.

Family atmosphere in a well run English Pub.

When Irish owned it you used to get big slices of meat (choice of 3 meats) now it's a little slither of each choice of meat ..disappointed!
