A while since our last visit, great to find the car park relaid and the place spruced up. Fantastic place for fish&chips (they let me substitute fries too), for £11 wasn’t expecting a giant fresh perfectly battered cod - best had in ages. Bumped into some neighbours who’d also made the journey to seek it out. Lovely decor and welcoming landlord and staff! We will be back and not leave it so long!

Not a great all round experience. Was a Wednesday night so that might have been the issue. Service was nothing extraordinary and the prices seemed high. Certainly higher than the other pubs around. The atmosphere was terrible, felt sad and empty, and not sure it would be different on any other night. So if you want an expensive drink, served without a smile or service, in a soulless pub this is the one for you. On the plus side there was lots of parking.

This could be such a great thriving business but with a tired unkept beer garden which has the same junk in it as I saw two years ago, and a last orders for drinks of 21.00, this business just shows either the owners have just given up, or just dont care.

Me and my family had a lovely lunchtime meal for Easter. We had traveled up to visit my Nan and cousin and was not disappointed at all. We stepped foot in there and was greeted by a lovely man, he then went on and explained the Sunday dishes they had on which I was very excited about! Half my family had roasts and half had food off the main menu. The waiter/manager could not do enough for us even allowing me to have some homemade pigs in blankets that weren’t on the menu! Overall this place has such nice food with a lovely atmosphere and the people where so lovely it has made us want to return! Also the food was so well priced we would have happily paid double for what we had! Thankyou again for the lovely meal, you have made this Easter extra special for me and my family!

Popped in for a drink, I would say the pub was a little old charm English pub which you can't find it nowadays.(Dimlights, pool table, wooden chairs+tables with old English styles)The gentleman(landlord,I guess) was very polite and friendly.I'd definitely comeback for more food and drinks.

Absolutely appalling attitude of the pub owner. To be clear, those employed by him were absolutely fabulous. However, I have never met such a condescending, rude, grandiose complex, insulting and unprofessional pub owner who should most definitely think of a career change - hospitality isn’t for him. The toilets are absolutely foul and have been left to fester, just like his stinking attitude.

Well where do I begin, we were in a happy mood as we went out for a meal to celebrate our sons birthday, we also had our dog with us, on approaching the Woolpack after parking we noticed a large garden to the rear with a few picnic tables so thought it ideal to eat outside with our dog, I went inside and asked if we could have our food outdoors as weather was nice, there was a shaking of the head from who I assume was the landlord, on reflection now we should have left there and then to find a welcoming pub elsewhere. Went inside to the so called sports bar, large billiard table in centre, 2 tables at the back with customers drinking & vaping, we sat perched on 3 tiny stools & an even smaller table right by main door. We were given the menu, chose what to have (not much choice), I then decided to take my dog into the garden for a walk, grass very overgrown with dog faeces in it, Woolpack name propped against a wall, should have realised then what this meant. When I got back my husband & son had been moved to another (very sticky) table, a bit larger so all three plates would fit. Our food arrived mine was ok, however, my husbands wasnt very nice at all, he had the all day breakfast which appeared to have been around all day, as was cold, fried eggs were hard. Wish on reflection I’d read the other comments from other unfortunate people.

We had a room to ourselves (around 18 of us) with plenty of food, tea & coffee. We didn’t go out in the garden, but it looked great! There wasn’t a disabled loo, but the loo was ground floor and not up/down any steps. They had a portable ramp so a wheelchair could enter the pub and once in, it was easy to get around. Good selection of beers and drinks and quick friendly service- they made a difficult time as easy as possible for us and I’m really grateful. It seemed a lovely pub.

Having been told this place does lovely Sunday lunches we thought we would give it a go. Was quite busy. Only one girl doing all the work out front of house. The landlord was doing drinks. We were sat waiting a while for our order to be taken. We nearly left aa the place wasn't very clean. Dusty, dirty carpets and a melt fusty. People were eating away so we thought the food must be nice!!. We ordered beef dinner. Not given much at all. We only waited 5 minutes for the food to arrive. We were sat near the kitchen door but we couldn't smell any food cooking. We had not been freshly cooked food but Aldi ready meals!!!. Even the sweets were Aldi. Very run down. Avoid at all cost.

First time ever been to this area. We was looking for a homemade pub grub & that’s what we got when we went in on the Friday. In total there was 4 of us. We ordered… BBQ ribs, coleslaw & fries ( from the special board ) - DELICIOUS! X3 lamb shank, mash & veg - lamb was lovely also the mash, but could have done with a little more veg. Bread & butter pudding - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (little a bit dry & thin piece) Sticky toffee pudding - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lotus cheesecake - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice apple crumble - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food was lovely so we came back on Sunday for a Sunday dinner. All four of us had the beef dinner. We did look around as you do, to look what it looked like & it looked nice. We did notice a couple in there have 1 veg plate between them both. The plate included… peas, cheesy cauliflower, cabbage. So with there been 4 of us we presumed we get two. Wrong! We got 1 plate which was very hard to share between 4 so we did order another one, this then left other guests without veg & our second order of veg scares. The beef was lovely! We couldn’t moan to much as £20 for a Sunday dinner & pudding isn’t bad value. But I must say I think most of the food isn’t homemade I.e roasties, Yorkshire puddings & veg. Also there was 1 girl rushed off her feet while landlord was stood behind the bar. I know they do have a sign asking for more staff but the girl was serving, cleaning plates, taking orders. And the pub had more than enough people for 1 person. She really did cope well.

I just wanted to write a review because I used to work at this pub for a couple of months and this is what I have to say about this place. A little background so I applied to work for the boosh bar (the owner of the pub owns the cocktail bar in bury) and whilst I had my interview they asked if I would like to work at the woolpack to get some bar experience. So I said yes and this started the worst experience of my life. First of, the landlord Graham, is the rudest man I have ever met in my entire life, whilst I was working he belittled me in ear shot of guests which max me feel so uncomfortable and frankly like a peasant. When I wasn’t working the landowner would message me on days that I wasn’t working, asking me about my during the morning and evening, trying to discuss topics of conversation which were very inappropriate and not to do with work at all. Such topics as did I have a partner and if we were happy, if my home life was good and wanted to know more than what was exceptable. Whilst still working, I put on a brave face and still went in, but was treated like rubbish the whole shift and could not do anything right in his eyes. The customers who came in were lovely and I enjoyed talking to them when I had time when the landlord wasn’t rushing me around everywhere whilst he stood behind the bar thinking he was the bees knees. I finally left after a couple months of this, I then heard that after I left lots of other people who have worked here have been through the same thing so it wasn’t a one off. Please do not work here if you are looking for a job, there are better places to work and avoid this place at all costs.

Having sought out this venue as being dog friendly I was very disappointed - after checking first with the lady behind the bar that the place was indeed dog friendly I found a comfortable spot only to be told by another employee that dogs were not allowed in the room. Relocated as requested into a much smaller room dominated by a pool table and had to perch on a stool next to a fruit machine. Friendly customers but didn’t stay long and decided to forego my intended bar meal as it was not possible to comfortably eat in the allocated space. If you are looking for somewhere to take your four legged friend then I suggest you look elsewhere.

My wife and I chose dishes off the "specials" board. The menus were in a tatty condition and menu options are basic. We ordered cottage pie which was homemade and very nice, as good as my own. It came with with veg and gravy. I noticed a ramp by the front door to aid access. Very large car park, with customary pot holes. Not a place for a special night/meal but we'd happily drop in again. Sorry but based on our experience this evening, the outdoor sign stating “chefs needed” could not be more apt. The “special lamb shank” was quite possibly microwaved out of a bag in a jus more like molasses. Chips were ok and the late arriving veg was equally poor, and quite possibly also microwaved from a bag. To add to the experience our French Bulldog (who was on a lead) was attacked not once but twice by one of the locals dogs whose owner found it highly amusing. Would I go back - never …..

Had a pleasant meal here while staying locally and looking for somewhere to eat a reasonably priced early evening meal. The food was plentiful and tasty, service good and staff friendly. The pub's rear garden is quite spacious with tables to seat a fair number of customers, although it could probably do with a makeover. The pub appears to be popular with locals and this gave it a lively atmosphere. If you need to take your car there is plenty of room in the car park and if using public transport there is a bus stop right outside.
