We booked for a Mother's Day Sunday roast for our party of 11. Having eaten here before I was expecting a good meal with family. We had pre-booked our menu choices one week before as requested by the pub. Once we were seated at 2.30pm our dinner took over an hour to arrive. The food was stone cold - all of it! Not even barely warm and there was no red cabbage or cauliflower cheese. Some plates had parsnips some didn't and one member of our party didn't recieve her dinner until I complained to the manager at the bar because no one was around. We then waited another 10-15 mins for the missing dinner and vegetables to arrive. Thankfully this dinner was hot but the vegetables were again stone cold and looked as though someone had just poured a thin cheese sauce over the cauliflower and not baked it. I like rare beef but some of the beef was not even rare, it was completely raw and inedible! Not once did the manager or staff come to our table to check or apologise and neither were our tables cleared. Another table experienced exactly the same service and cold food as we did and like them we left and will not return. The manager did agree not to charge us or the other table for our food and we just paid for our drinks, but a family Mother's Day lunch was ruined as it was too late to go anywhere else so we left. Looking at some of the other reviews there is clearly a problem with how this establishment is managed if they cannot cope with Sunday roasts with pre-arranged menu choices.

Booked for 8 people at 12.45. We finally got our mains at 14.40 having complained twice. We were blamed because we had starters, which of course gave them extra time to prepare the mains! All mains were Sunday roast so nothing too demanding. The staff were lovely except the manager was not helpful. If you foul up, acknowledge your mistake, apologise, offer a free drink and nibbles and we would have been singing your praises. Don’t blame the customer because you messed up.

Disappointing experience. Good food but wait times are shocking. Had we known we would have got up and left. Not what we are used to. Sunday lunch took one hour and forty five mins to arrive for a party of five. We arrived at 12:45 and received our mains between 2:30pm and 2:45pm. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. Waitresses were apologetic, the gentleman acting as front of house, unapologetic. Visiting from Guernsey, Channel Islands.

I went in November with my friends and the roast and deserts were really lovely as was the service so I recommend this to my family and we went as a table of 8, unfortunately it was not the same the second time. Once seated it took 30 mins for us to be given menus, then another 20 mins to order. The manager was lovely and friendly when he took our order. When the food came which took a little while, the beef was undercooked - we like pink but this was extremely pink, there was so much fat on it as well, it looked like it hadn't been trimmed. The pork was dry and didn't have any real flavour We were meant to get red cabbage and cauliflower cheese with all the roasts as well, we were given two small bowls of cauliflower between 6 roasts and no red cabbage. We were trying to get the attention of the waitresses to ask for the cabbage but they didn't come anywhere near us so we couldn't - normally you would be asked if your meal was OK or anything needed but we weren't. No one came back to our table till 20 mins after we'd finished our mains. For deserts there was 3 orders of sticky toffee pudding and chocolate and orange cremeux. When I went previously I had a chocolate and cherry cremeux which was delicious so I ordered this again, when I came out I couldn't believe the size of it, it was at least half the size of previous dessert but the same price. The sticky toffee was very dry and most didn't finish their portions. We rarely had a waitress come to the table and it felt like an inconvenience when they did, we had to ask for the bill 3 times before the bought it to us about 25 mins later - if they were really busy I'd understand but we were the only table in the restaurant. It was quiet in general so the lack of waitress follow ups didn't make sense. It's a shame as when we went before it was good food, the staff were friendly and attentive but this time it felt like we were an inconvenience and that they were getting rid of old food or there was an issue/staffing issue in the kitchen. I understand issues happen But when spending over £220 for Sunday lunch we expect a lot better.

I’ve been visiting for years but their new refit is fantastic. It looks fresh, the seating areas are thought out and comfortable. The outdoor area is spacious and well-lit. I love the big green area between the seating area and a horse paddock - it kept my kids very well entertained. The food has really been upgraded from good pub food to the next level. I plan to visit a lot more to try out their pizza night and more dishes from their improved menu. The service we received was great, the chap had a fun personality and couldn’t do more to make sure we had a good meal. Highly recommend.

End of summer hols treat - we visited here on a Thursday lunchtime. It was quiet so we had plenty of choice of places to sit - we opted for indoors. The decor is modern with a traditional twist - really lovely. Good choice of gins - I opted for a Berkshire Rhubarb & Raspberry. We ordered our meal and the starters arrived quickly. There was a mix up with our main course - but it was sorted quickly. Food was lovely and we would definitely visit again.

Sunday lunch for 15 to celebrate my parents' 62 wedding anniversary. Our family included 3 small children, 2 vegetarians, and 3 vegans. Everyone was looked after and loved their food. Lovely roast dinner, cleaned the plate. Would certainly recommend the pork for the Sunday roast. Wines were also nice. Stuffing was odd though, maybe frozen I don't know I don't wanna say something that might not be true. Was nice anyway :) However some local cask ales would be a nice feature, I went for Guinness instead as the only cask was Doom Bar. The glass wasn't 'beer clean' and the head was massive, maybe they were having issues with the Guinness. Nevermind, stuff happens. All in all a very pleasant experience for a Sunday roast.

We booked the plough for a family birthday meal. I’m horrendously unorganised and forgot to put in two of our parties pre selected menus. The staff were so accommodating and chilled, it was not an issue at all and they couldn’t do enough the ensure the night was perfect for us. We had children in the party, the staff were so chatty to them which is always so refreshing, warm and welcoming. The food here is amazing, we were blown away by the quality and service, The best meal out we have had in such a long time and we pride ourselves as gastro pub frequenters! The steaks were superb, and the amounts on our plate were unbelievably generous. I can not recommend this place enough, the work done in the garden allows you to appreciate the beautiful views. Looking forward to coming back for a Thursday steak night! Thank you x

What a dreadful disappointment. Having gone to the Plough for a much looked forward to evening the meal was underwhelming. All I requested was a steak and salad. The menu had steak night for 2 people with a choice of 4 sides - the sides were mostly chips or cabbage. Instead I requested just one side of a simple salad. When the meal was served I was given cooked cabbage. When I queried this they said they had no ingredients for a salad!!! Even though on the menu was a burger with coleslaw and a cooked tomato was served with my husband's steak. What establishment has no salad ingedients? On the plus side the steak was nice. We will not be returning.

We dined here for dinner as we had previously had lunch here recently. The good points - the food is of a generally good standard and we were greeted with a warm welcome and a polite and friendly service from the waitresses. The ambiance and polite service was good throughout our meal and they have done a great job with the decor as it is in keeping with the style of the pub. The not so good points - Although the food was of a good quality, the portions were not that generous and the chips with the fish were stated as triple-cooked. We have had triple-cooked chips in other establishments but these chips were definitely not crispy on the outside and not fluffy in the middle. This pub is definitely much more expensive to dine at than other pubs in the area and would take this into consideration if we were to return.

Beautifully decorated and in the summer there is a fabulous view from the garden. However it is fearfully expensive. Service extremely slow and not terribly friendly. No children's menu when we went and the coffee was disappointing. I went hoping for an item that was on the online menu but it wasn't on the menu on the day. I rang a few days later to give what I thought might be helpful feedback, but was given short shrift. Apparently one could ask (ditto for children's menu). However when staff are obviously busy and not particularly approachable, asking doesn't feel very welcome! Much better to make it clear on the menu what is available. Hope things are looking up now but we are not tempted to return.

Poor service for a high end establishment, what a disappointment for Fathers Day, whilst wanting to support our local pub. The pub didn’t appear to be at 50% capacity when our table was booked for food. The owner showed us to our table, quickly followed by waiting staff offering us menus. She was quick to walk away when I offered feedback and seemed dismissive. Half a hour later without seeing any staff again aside from a waitress bringing drinks to a nearby table then walking back inside without glancing our way. For somewhere that offers £20 + discretionary service charge you’d hope their waiting staff would be attentive. We came to their opening night which was understandably heavily lead by their manager, seems like he’s still running the show with staff looking ‘busy’ without being there for their customers. Such a shame given such a beautiful setting and new decor.

We are genuinely a couple that don't usually leave a negative review because we know how hard it has been recently to keep businesses running. We like to eat out at weekends and all we would like or expect is good food good service and a good time. Unfortunately we have recently tried twice for Sunday lunch. The first time was just as the pub had opened with new owners etc. And in fairness there was a lot going on and things were ok. However we had lunch at the pub today. And the very positive thing is the food was GREAT. The Sunday lunch meal was lovely. But when we are sitting looking at the young staff walking about not really paying any attention to some tables. People commenting next to us "good luck if you are ordering another drink" Another couple doing there very best to stop a member off staff as they wanted to pay there bill. We had to really do our best to get the attention of a young member of staff to try and order a drink. I don't mind waiting for however long it takes when a pub is really busy but it wasn't. Two young couples coming in from outside asking could they order a drink as they have been waiting ages. We probably would have had a look at the dessert menu but there was no chance to get anyone to actually look over at our table. When I did get the attention of a young staff member I asked for the bill as she attempted to clear our plates from the table. We never got, "did we enjoy your food, would we like to see the dessert menu? So you get it. The manager guy was really friendly and he was busy working the tables and bar but his staff were not. So I'm afraid yes the food was lovely but I would not like to see how they cope when they do get a busy day.

Nice food, but pricy. Beetroot, red onion, fig and goats cheese tart tatin sounded great, it was nearly excellent, but was slightly spoilt by the over powering use of balsamic glaze. Drinks are quite expensive for the local area. Beautiful views from the restaurant look as if they are about to be obliterated by some sort of structure being built?! All of the staff were very friendly and just attentive enough. The service charge being added to the bill grates a bit though. Happy to tip, but don't force it please! Nice to see that someone has put a lot of effort into running the place after a period of having a less than great reputation. Tweak things slightly and it would be spot on.

£5.90 for a real ale, £6.50 for a Guinness, £6.80 for a pale ale! Utterly ridiculous prices. This is Brockley Green, not Bethnal Green! Same true of wine, soft drinks etc. Advertises themselves as a 'traditional country pub' but clearly they have no intention of running this as such with those prices. Removal of bar stools all but confirms this is attempting to be a gastro town restaurant masquerading as a country pub. Interestly, their prices are around £1.30 a pint higher than their sister pub at Stansted. Would be interested to know why?! Can't help but feel you are being completely ripped off when visiting, regardless of how good the food and service might be. Really hope The Plough can be a success in the long term and rebuild its once formidable reputation, but tweaks are needed to pricing to avoid alienating locals.

Had a nice father's day meal. The beef that most of us had just melted in your mouth, vegetables nicely done and not over cooked as some places tend to do. Although the only slight criticism we had was that the chicken supreme was not exactly as expected. The chicken thigh that we were served was really tiny and it raised a few chuckles from the family. The pub / Inn is a lovely country pub with an open fire, decent seating and serves good food. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was cooked to perfection and it had a door atmosphere. The hotel side is comfortable but tired. Carpets need replacing and the rooms need a lick of paint. The towels had holes in them and the toilet roll holder fell off the wall! Don't get me wrong, it was clean and reasonably comfortable for one night but I would not stay longer than just one night. Pub is definitely woth a visit.

We dine at this lovely establishment two or three times a year whilst visiting relatives and it is always a comfortable, welcoming pub in beautiful rural surroundings. The menu is varied, good sized, well prepared portions at very reasonable prices. Covid safe. Highly recommended.

We really wanted to love this pub as we'd read so many positive reviews and it's quite close to home. So, we went for Sunday roast with my wife's parents. Wholly disappointed. The 3 stars are only because the place is nice, the staff very pleasant, and there is a nice beverage selection. It was not busy when we arrived. We had booked earlyish (1215). Of several empty tables we were sat at a dirty one and had to ask to have it wiped. Sure, it happens, but after all we've all gone through with Covid?? It seemed very careless. Then, only after placing our meal order we were told that there was no nut roast. A small Sunday menu meant that the only other choices for my vegetarian wife were an appetizer or a curry. She opted for the curry. My wife loves Indian food but she did not enjoy the curry at all and I admit it was a poor imitation. I would rate the roast as average or below. Plain vegetables, lukewarm potatoes and thin-sliced beef. All in all the meal seemed very cheap.

Group of 5 booked for Sunday lunch. We had to wait a little while to get our food due to a large table being seated before us which wasn't a problem. The owner was polite and accommodating. The Sunday lunch is always pretty good here...

Food is amazing and staff are so friendly. Shame it was let down by the fact that there is only one trained chef in the kitchen from overhearing several staff! And what can I say about the owner? He has absolutely no respect for his...

Booked through booking.com. Told checking was 1600pm. I tipped up at 12. David and staff are unbelievably accomodating. Let me in early. Seriously can't big this place up enough. 10 out of 10 for hospitality. Love it

Went for lunch and ordered a sandwich, the bread was the cheapest thin sliced value bread you would find in a supermarket, the coleslaw was the cheapest you would find in a supermarket. Nothing was handmade. Very disappointed indeed.

Busy on a Saturday lunchtime. We tried the Xmas meal with extra pigs in blankets. Good value albeit a bit underwhelming. No Roasted potato - mash instead. However it beats my home cooking

Noticed the one of my old teenage haunts was open again, and what a lovely surprise. A very friendly and informative owner/brewer made us feel very at home and three pints of the wonderfully tasty Xocolatl Ale was just what the doctor ordered. I was sorely tempted to make my way through his wide array of beers, but could not resist this pale ale combined with cocoa nibs…can’t wait to be back in Suffolk again!

A while since our last visit, great to find the car park relaid and the place spruced up. Fantastic place for fish&chips (they let me substitute fries too), for £11 wasn’t expecting a giant fresh perfectly battered cod - best had in ages. Bumped into some neighbours who’d also made the journey to seek it out. Lovely decor and welcoming landlord and staff! We will be back and not leave it so long!
