Easy to order,friendly team,nice environment

Food was lovely. Hot and fresh, especially loved the onion fries. Only thing we didn't like was the ordering at the table, personally prefer to have a server come to the table and take the order but apart from that all the staff were attentive and friendly.

The service was good, the food was good, the toilets are awful. No lock on one cubicle, a flickering light in another, filthy dirty under the hand dryer.

Had a fantastic visit to Moreton Hall Pub! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was delicious and well-portioned, and the service was friendly and attentive. The Sunday roast was cooked perfectly, and the menu had great variety at reasonable prices. A great spot for drinks or a meal—highly recommended!

Had a great Sunday roast here, food came out nicely presented, staff were very welcoming, paid just under £50 for two with some drinks and sides, if I had one criticism, it would be the closeness of some tables to other customers, but that is a very minor inconvenience for the service and food. All in all 9.5 out 10 . We will definitely be going there again. Hope this review helps.

We popped in to have an evening meal without a reservation on a recent freezing evening. Getting a table was no problem as it was only about 5pm. Our food was absolutely fine, hot and tasty, so no complaints there. However ...... It was about 1 degree C outside, and nearly as cold indoors. We were chilly, and I saw some other customers sitting with their coats on and hoods up! The radiator nearest to us was stone cold. At one point I asked our server if he could turn the heating on, and he said that he had recently turned it up. However, I can't believe it was on at all, and it should have been appreciated by staff just how cold it was, and turned on or up much earlier. Ironically the 'ember' fireplace for which the pub brand is named remained empty and lifeless, though a little while later the same employee started to build the coals there, presumably to light or heat later when more guests were present. The Ember Inn website states 'Walk through our doors and prepare for a warm welcome, cosy, crackling fireplaces...' Nothing could have been further from the truth on an extremely cold night! One of the other things I immediately noticed on sitting down at our chosen table was the dreadful squeak of the hinges on the kitchen door. As you can imagine, this door was in constant staff use, swinging backwards and forwards, and the racket from the hinges was dreadful. And how easily would this have been sorted - for goodness sake, just oil the thing and cure the problem and the annoyance it causes. But I've saved my biggest gripe for last. The toilets! Ugh! The Ladies toilets at this pub have always been bad, dirty, grimy, dusty, with a school toilets feel to the allocated room and its cubicles. The pub had a £330,000 refurbishment 3 years ago and back then I was interested to see how the Ladies toilets might have been improved, only to find that they looked just the same, as awful and dirty as ever. They remain in the same state now, if not worse. There are 3 cubicles, 2 of them had such dim lights over the cubicle that I chose the third cubicle, set away from the other two at a different angle. The light bulb over this one was flickering, reminding me of a horror movie, the hook on the back of the door had long since dropped off, and the lock was broken. The sink area has lots of limescale and black mold, and the dado rail around the middle of the room's walls is dirty and dusty with the paint peeling off it. Honestly, it's so grim that I can't even begin to imagine who is 'supposedly' cleaning in there and what they are thinking when/if they do so. I've just checked, and I see that this pub was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 in December 2024. That's all well and good for the state of the kitchen, but if the toilets of food establishments were taken into account (and I can't see why they shouldn't be, they are surely the perfect barometer for an establishment's attitude to cleanliness and hygiene), then the outlet would have definitely achieved a much lower rating. I see that the general manager currently reads and responds to TA reviews, and I look forward to him reading this and taking some action. All the concerns I've mentioned are easily remedied, even the Ladies toilets could be thoroughly cleansed and refurbished with new light bulbs, toilet seats, door fittings. Pay me £1000 and I'll do it myself!

Food was really nice considering it wasn't very expensive. Pub itself had a cozy feel. Staff were friendly enough but there was a vibe of them not wanting to be there and it showed. Didn't take away from the experience though, we all have off days. All in all it was an enjoyable visit. The food was tasty and cooked well and the atmosphere comfortable.

Stopped here on way home for dinner. Was expecting the food to be similar to a Green King pub, but was pleasantly surprised. Had the tandoori chicken skewer with Cajun fries. Both were GREAT!! As an American, when a pub says that a dish is "spicy," I find it's nowhere near. But this had a surprisingly high heat level that didn't overpower the taste. Only possible complaint is that their "blazing" fireplace wasn't blazing 😞. With the weather freezing outside and me sitting by the door, it would've been nice to have.

Boxing Day family meal was amazing prawns cocktail turkey with all the trimmings cheese & biscuits 5* the service was great lovely setting

Firstly a HUGE THANKYOU! 14 of us from various parts of Europe all met today for our family Christmas dinner and a birthday. Given the time of year and pressures on all the staff I have to say everything was excellent. One of our party was stuck in traffic, making your service late, no pressure from you at all, specific and very significant dietary needs absolutely catered for in an excellent, well informed and super understanding manner! The staff, every single one of you, working on Boxing Day were pleasant, friendly and couldn’t have done more. The food was far better than I have had elsewhere in Bury as a large scale Christmas Dinner and significantly better value! All in all if I could give more than five stars I would. Thankyou again for making a rare family get together so special.

Our family decided to "eat out" this Christmas, so we chose the Morton Hall, fro. A recommendation. The whole evening from entering to restaurant to service was second to none. The young staff coped with our pre ordered meal and there were no slip ups, started, mains and afters were all wolfed down with a cpl of rounds of drinks. So thanks to the team for making the evening memorable. Defo reccomend and re visit... 5 stars!!!

Went on Sunday, the team are friendly and brilliant. The food was fantastic.

My husband and i went in for breakfast. Went to get a table for two only to hear female voice asking if we had booked. To be fare we hadn't so was then put on a table for four??? The food we ordered was warm just. We should have sent it back but didn't like to complain. The tea we ordered never arrived so we asked again. He apologised and said he would get some lady to make it. We waited a while when my husband went up to ask to find it was made and was sat on the bar. If told we would have gone up but we were over halfway through eating breakfast. The table we originally went to sit on was not occupied at all while we were there. Very disappointing altogether. Would have had a second drink but didn't really feel we wanted to stay any longer.

At first we were really unhappy as we were told we could not order from the festive menu, which I didn't think was hugely obvious when I made the booking online. However our waitress went out of her way to accommodate us and we got our festive menu dishes (which were lovely) and we even got crackers! It was still a bit disappointing for my friend though that she couldn't have new potatoes as they are now cooked with the chips so are not suitable if you're avoiding gluten. Surely any chef can boil potatoes in some water, or steam them? Anyway overall we had a nice time, the food was good vfm and the staff friendly and helpful.

Sent food back yesterday for over cooked chips on both meals . Replced quickly Mayo is dispensed into metal ramekins and had been stored in the fridge so long it had gone rubbery, not edible

A beautiful pub, lovely decor outside and inside. The atmosphere is also lovely, a vibrant welcoming pub. However, unfortunately the food is quite average.

Held our team Christmas dinner here.the atmosphere was very lively but not noisy. Spacious indoor sitting with al fresco dining options, too. I had the 3-course festive meal and left very satisfied and full. They are also on deliveroo, so very convenient to order from home

Christmas Lunch for my department. We had a good time. Ambiance is ok. Noticed not a lot of Christmas decorations inside but there was a Christmas tree 🎄 by reception area. Toilet bins needs cleaning. Food 2.5 out of 5 (I'm being generous as it's Christmas) food ok-ish . Presentation, promptness of service and taste could greatly be improved. Service -staff friendly and accommodating.

Had our works Xmas dinner there last night (1st Dec) with 13 people so spent quite a bit of money at £23.49 for 3 courses! Well here goes....the prawns in the cocktail were tasteless, the butter could not be spread on the bread because it was so hard! The carved turkey dinner, well I'm gob smacked! Roast potatoes were obviously re-heated from lunch time, too hard to even cut, and when you did finally manage to cut they were hollow inside! The pigs in blankets were burnt, the sprouts (again probably from lunch time!) were rubbery and struggled to get a fork in them! Cold custard came out with christmas pudding! Very disappointing! Yes we did get a free round of drinks but really I was totally embarrassed because I suggested Ember Inns Bury St Edmunds to have our xmas work meal and i organised it! I will not be recommending to anyone either! Thankyou for making our Christmas meal memorable for all the wrong reasons!!!

Came in after football, relatively late, but Lewis welcomed us very kindly even tho they were shutting. Great man.

Nothing was great. We were seated at a very small round table (four of us) that was squeezed in between other tables, on a wonky floor so the table kept moving, right beside an outside door that members of staff used frequently. It was a cold day so I had to put my coat over my legs. The staff were pretty non existent (not rude but not attentive either - guessing there weren’t enough of them). The food was mediocre at best. The vegetables were barely cooked; the carrots were practically roar and the peas were like bullets. The potatoes were okay but obviously not hand done as they were all the same shape. The Turkey was ok but the rib of beef was very dry. There wasn’t a single vegan pudding, not even I e cream. We won’t be returning.

The decor and the ambiance were nice but a little noisy for us as we seated near the bar/drinking area. It was a reasonable waiting time for food but not all the plates/food were very hot and it seems a little backwards to be given our food before we were provided with cutlery

I decided to go for a drink and something to eat with my family to the Moreton Hall, this is my local pub and visit here regularly. I ordered drinks for myself, my wife, and my son on the ember inn app, after 40 minutes my drink still hadnt arrived I went to the bar to tell Lewis that my drinks hadn’t arrived, he said he would sort this out, but no apology was given! My drinks were bought over by the shift manager after 5 minutes, placed on the table in front of us all , the manager walked off. I ordered another round of drinks at the bar this time, the drinks were served I took them to the table. Once we had sat down a member of staff asked my son for ID to which he didn’t have any so they said he couldn’t have his drink! I spoke with the shift manager and Lewis and I asked why he had not been I asked for ID when the first drink had been brought to my table? I explained that if he had been underage they would already have broken the law!! This decision by the staff meant that I had to travel 10 minutes to my house to get my son’s passport to prove his age, it was like closing the stable door after the horse had bolted!! This fiasco by the staff at the pub ruined my family night out caused stress on both myself and my son, who is actually 20 years old! Staff in this pub should be more consistent with their I D policy, and some customer service training would very useful!!

My husband and I live opposite the pub and often pop across the road on a weekend for something to eat. Today we both had roast turkey and it was absolutely fantastic Thank you to every one- it was lovely. Although my husband says can he have the old calamari back !!

Popped in to try it out, food was good, atmosphere was lovely, they lit the fire while we were there,made it feel quite cosy, would definitely go back for a meal with family

The food was excellent, I went for rump steak, and added another for £4.5, superb value. Had it cooked blue and I wasn't disappointed. Both me and my wife requested no chilli sauce. This was confirmed by the waitress. And our request was carried out. My wife ate bass.. Got to mention starters, treat yourself to the battered prawns and chicken bites. Only complaint was that not enough!! Beer and prosecco. We're reasonably priced. Clean restaurant, and friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Obviously we'll trained by management. Would I recommend. Yes. We are booked in again for x ma's eve!!

My friend and I often come here for some food, it’s a nice atmosphere and food is always nice. They have changed the menu, I had calamari (which was previously delicious) served with a Chinese seasoning, it was so heavily coated in this that it was inedible, incredibly salty (you can see how really seasoned this is in the photo), served with chilli sauce, miss the garlic aloe. My friend had the surf and turf which was okay, steak was cooked perfectly, chips again different, super crispy nothing inside. Then sat for an hour with empty plates on the table, two separate servers had been over to replace drinks and neither cleared the table. When we left, the plates were still there. A little disappointed to say the least. Its a pub we have always relied on as we know what to expect but I think it’s time to look elsewhere…

Went for a meal two days on the trot while staying in Bury. We enjoyed the meal so much that we had the same meal both times.

Great venue, in a lovely community location, very busy for a mid-week visit which I see as a good thing especially as service was quick but not too quick and food was spot on. Blonde Maddie (this was how she said her name was 😆) gets special recognition as she was who was serving the food and always with a smile even though it must of been a challenging evening service for her, well done and keep up the good work 😁👍🏻

Hi I have been a few times and would say was 4stars.how ever today.myself and two friends had roasts you had run out of loin of pork so they had belly of pork.i had the siloin roast.tough small portions I did not enjoy it oh I think I got the farthest piece.succh a waste if money

Food came out had mixed grill steak well done steak was really red in parts, I had lasagne came out was cold. Sent back. This was sorted out , but then our desserts didn't come out, we had to ask , looks like was forgotten. Not impressed. Been couple of times always been good. Won't be back.

The food and service here is as bad as it gets for pub grub. Child portions at adult prices. Wrong order with dreadful table service. waited for cutlery while food went cold. Boy this place is bad. Nice location and building mind you.

Disappointed just about sums it up. We ordered the nachos to start, chips were stale and the serious lack of cheese sauce led me to believe they must have found the bottom of the packet when making these. Ordered the sirloin steak for my main and eventually gave up with fighting the sinew with a butter knife. The peas were not cooked long enough, my other half called them "little cannon balls" a shame really as we live so close, I was hoping for something a little better than what we ended up with.

Lovely looking place from the outside, but when you get in a bit like the doctors tardis. A massive garden is a seated area. Food ordered, very quick service. The food was cooked to perfection. Food is very well made, I had ultimate burger and it lives up to its name, the burger comes with fries and gravy which is a nice combination. We took our whippet and sat outside next the lake, which has a fountain and ducks splashing around with the fish. Nice relaxed environment, there is a section inside you can take your dog if the weather turns bad. We don't smoke but there is smokers area outside too. So good I went twice in one week

The food was delicious and the option to dine inside or outside was really nice. It will definitely become my and my family's go to place for a nice evening outside. 100% recommend.

It is a nice place and we had a lovely evening with friends, however kids food was dissapointing. We ordered kids burgers which were dry and buns became hard very quickly. My kids are not fussy eaters, they eat everything, but this time they did not want. Even their dad! Waste of money.

Not visited previously. Not sure if our experience was fully reflective of the usual standard of food and service. Although we were advised we would be waiting for food, our wait between courses well exceeded the timeframe. The food was ok. Maybe it was an overly busy night.

The place was comfortable and suitable for friends when they want to chat rather than being assaulted with loud music. The food was acceptable but not exceptional. The service was average and again acceptable. The atmosphere was fine.

Manager was chewing gum whilst taking our order, food came out quite quickly but order was wrong, we order three steak meals so shouldn’t have been difficult. One meal was noticeably smaller than the others and had arrived cold. Staff didn’t seem to want to be there.
