Star in Central Bedfordshire

Had a lovely lunch at the Star. Friendly chap behind the bar, always nice to have service with a smile! Good food, table nice and clean and the flowers were a lovely touch. Will be returning!

Went for lunch with the family. The place looks wonderful. We were greeted with a smile which was great. The food was beautifully cooked. My only critic for the food was the roast potatos didn't taste fresh. Drinks great but a little pricey for soft drinks. Overall, really enjoyed it and will return return again.

Great service, food and really good staff

Oh wow fantastic service, food choice and quality was 100% . Very clean and there was a selection of books to keep the children happy. The staff were very friendly and , big thanks too Aaron and Scott . The Star is a hidden gem beautiful beer garden looking forward to the warmer weather.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here with my mum. Great choice on the menu, hot and tasty food-brilliant value for money. Great and friendly service too.

I visited The Star today for dinner and had a wonderful meal with my family. Generously portioned and most delicious roast dinners, macaroni cheese & puddings. Excellent service, provided by a mix of the team who worked together to ensure a pleasant and relaxed service. The new manager, Aaron came over and spoke to us, and is clearly making some positive changes which it’s great to see. I look forward to coming back very soon! A big thanks to the team!

Positives; Cater well for allergies, diverse choice on menu, so peace of mind for allergy child. Negatives; Teeny portion sizes (and I'm not a huge eater) waited over half an hour just to have our mains collected and pretty much gave up as service took too long to even think about dessert. Niece's plate had six chips for her kids meal portion, waiter mentioned it was a kids portion and he'd bring some more but never did.

Lovely food and staff. Very attentive. Really nice garden in the sun! Would definitely recommend for a pub lunch. Great service

Had a birthday meal for my daughter today 13th April 9 of us in total... the service was very poor had to wait before we could get any drinks and that only happened as my son went up to the bar to order them ... and then had to wait before the food order was taken and then the food was cold and overcooked ..and portions were really small.. eventually the tables were cleared but no mention of asking if we would like dessert menu .. we had 3 children with us they chose from children menu which included them having a drink and dessert but again my son had to go to the bar to remind that it was part of service .. so unfortunately we won't be eating there again ..

Beautiful pub inside and out especially on a sunny day. Good service and good food. Would highly recommend on a nice day.

Our first visit to The Star and was pleasantly surprised. There was a great atmosphere with live music and the place was buzzing. The new manager Scott served us, was very friendly and we would return again.

Visited as there was live music on. The pub was warm , busy and comfortable. Staff were really friendly especially the landlord Scott. Didn’t eat as had already eaten, but the food looked really good and will return to try it. Well worth a visit.

I kept driving past The Star pub on my way to and from work. I saw advertised that they do “Steak Thursdays” for £10-50. I decided one Thursday afternoon to give it a try with my wife. We both thought that the food was excellent. Better than we had expected for the price and a good sized portion of fries, onion rings, peas and grilled tomato with the rump steak. A very nice pub with a friendly welcoming barman. Kerry cooked our meal and chatted to us after we had eaten and we will definitely return. Kerry asked us if we would leave a review as the place is under new management and I said that I would be more than happy to. It’s a very nice pub with plenty of parking and a very reasonably priced menu which will see us visit again on another evening.

Sadly had to go around numerous tables collecting cutlery, serviettes and full condiments as our selected table didn't have much of anything. Assume they had been busy, but would of thought it would have been an automatic restock as part of the table clean down after guests have left. Tasty hot swift food, in a lovely traditional styled establishment.

I must say what an improvement since the last time we visited. I was told it is now under new management and you could tell. The food was lovely and service was great. I would recommend a visit.

Delightful dog friendly pub with a relaxed atmosphere

Disappointing food. Sunday lunch not very warm, veg all dried up. As suggested by others, food seems to have gone downhill. Wine was ok, though.

Visited on Sunday for lunch , Ghost town , empty car park and very few people inside. I question why ? When others in the area are fully booked . Beer ok ,food avg, wetherspoon standards

Never waited so long for service in a pub restaurant like this awful. We ordered a starter but after 45 mins we told staff to forget our starters and just have our mains that took another 40 minutes when we got are mains I had gammon asked for pineapple but I got an egg on top Could not waited any longer just put the egg to the side would not recommend this place to any one what was needed here is more trained staff I feel sorry any booked for mothers day. Was not an enjoyable experience here they could do a lot better.

A great little Pub good food and beer but waiting to get served is a bit of a pain ( profits above people no doubt) 2 staff doing bar and food, come on GK sort it otherwise these pubs will melt in to our history books. If people get put off coming because of this.

Table booked for 5.30 4 people. Quite a wait for food but there were only 2 staff who were run ragged. Poor things did a great job. Nice food reasonably priced.

Fish and chips are superb as are the pies, all the staff are friendly and welcoming. Lovely pub. Plenty of outdoor seating and it’s dog friendly too! My favourite local.

Lovely pub serving very good food, my friend and I visited on a weekday evening, I had the pea, mint and courgette risotto, really lovely except for the overload of rocket that I failed to identify when browsing the menu- I would have requested NO rocket. My friend had the mushroom pie with mash and veg which was very nice but a little dry. The pub was very quiet although I know it livens up, however, it was great to be able to hear each other speak! Service was good, staff were very pleasant. Hope to return soon!

Waited to long for service and food quality poor. Staff trying to do to much as not enough staff. Either do food or drink not both when understaffed

So disappointing went for a drink today no atmosphere whatsoever,a stand in manager told me she couldn't wait to leave as she came from London and the local staff must feel the same as not one of them smiled, where is your Christmas spirit

we arrived 15 minutes before our set time our pre-booked tables had not been set for our party we Went for a work meal took 4 hours for a 3-course meal very bad service considering we Ordered our food weeks before the toilets were dirty and had one toilet roll for all the ladies' toilets we won't ever return here again the service was diabolically bad

One star for the Star. We took visiting family members here for lunch as it is nomally ok. We walked in, were not welcomed or even acknowledged. We found a table, chose our food, and approached the bar. The young lad with long hair either didn't see us or chose to ignore us, so we went to him. The lad then acknowledged us without a welcome or a smile and then said that they were not taking walk ins as they had so many bookings (there were three tables with people on them!). We then said that another member of staff had told us that food was available, so he agreed to take our order as it was the manager who we had previously spoken to. Halfway through ordering, he told us that it was a 45 min wait. The pub was empty apart from the three tables! There were no signs up that they were only taking pre booked customers also. We promptly left and drove to another place which was far busier and had far friendlier and efficient staff!

Brilliant pub. Christmas meal was brilliant

When we first booked we were told only 6pm available. When we arrived it was nearly empty. We ordered drinks they had no Brandy or Pernod which wasn't a good start. We ordered food the starter's which where fine. The mains arrived 2 were fine but the Hunter's Chicken bbq sauce had congealed and had a skin. They did another one which was fine but the others had finished their food. We have been here a few times when we vist family but may not visit again.

Food was good but service was slow

Normally a lovely place. Very disappointed this evening. Party booked and pre ordered food. Table booked for 1930 and main courses not served until 2045. Food was ok but vegetables not enjoyed by most. Service was slow but staff friendly. Place was so cold we ate in out coats. Even though pre ordered some food not available. We are hoping for desserts before 10pm . Not enough glasses or correct cutlery. Come on green king pull your finger out!

Booked a table via online booking, when we turned up we weee told there must have been an issue as they had no tables so we couldn’t eat. Not impressed by it.

I wish I could give a higher rating, but I'm afraid there was nothing very special about this place at all. The food was okay - mediocre, no better, no worse. The smallest portion of cheesecake for dessert that I think I've ever been served, and although the waitress was pleasant - and she was - it would have been nice if we'd not had to hunt her down when we wanted coffee, if you know what I mean. Maybe we just visited on a night when things weren't quite as good as usual. I'd like to think so, because it looks like a cute place to eat, but it was sadly lacking on the evening I was there. Sorry guys .... just a little more effort, and you'd have got a different rating.

Beautiful little pub. The house is simply gorgeous and the lush outside is perfect for a nice meal and delicious beer. The inside of the pub is very cozy and the waitresses are super friendly. Recommend 100% !

Had a tasty beef and ale pie. Good vfm and very filling. The service could have been quicker, but a nice venue to grab a bite and catch up with friends or family.

The new menu today any had a great meal the beef was perfect as was the gammon. Well worth a visit if you’ve not been here for a while.

Visted Starstruck event on Saturday. An amazing and thoroughly enjoyable day! All six acts were amazing. Fantastic atmosphere, everyone seemed to be having a great time, including the children who were enthusiastic and having fun without being obtrusive. It was lovely to see people of all ages having a really great time. Staff were brilliant and worked so hard despite the tremendous heat! Thank you The Star!!! Looking forward to the next event.

The staff were rude and offensive we had paid £15 to go to starstruck garden event and were treated rudely by the kitchen staff who thought it was ok to shout and abuse us when they finished thier shift. I do not recommend using the star.

Disappointing ordered 2 meals, they took the money but later came back to say one was not available. Chose again and that wasn't available either so had a refund on the meals. We visited initially because they had advertised an afternoon and evening of local bands. However this wasn't true there was a lady playing a keyboard and singing badly and a miserable looking man on the guitar. A very disappointing visit all round!!

Very nice lunch , good value when going 2 for 1 on pub classics. First class, friendly , efficient service from Vicki and other team members. We will happily return.

Evening meal with an old friend - quiet enough to talk and hear the conversation. Good menu, reasonable prices. Would definitely visit again mid-week. Staff very polite and friendly .

Lovely country pub ... Food only average though with a limited menu ... Could get 5 stars but need to upgrade the food side for starters

We initially asked for 3 different meals from the menu. We were told none of them was available! No salmon, no gammon and no fish & CHIPS. VERY DISAPPOINTING.

Went to the Star this evening and the atmosphere was amazing. It was busy, there was a great buzz and everyone seemed to be having a good time. The staff were really friendly and went above and beyond. The cocktails were spot on...I would definitely recommend coming here for a meal or drinks with friends. Will be back for sure. x

Didn't have sandwiches etc that was advertised on the Internet & email sent. No customer service skills, when we queried this, she then said 'Do we want to order food" will we go back again, I don't know.

Table for four for lunch 15th July. Outstanding. Excellent food - all plates finished - and very good staff. Faultless.

The place looks amazing and very nice outside places ,,, the food looks good but unfortunately the steak was not woww just oky small size and not worth it the price of 16 pounds,,, but to be honest when the manager saw I didn't eat it he refunded what I paid for that steak,,, good service but not woww food,,,sorry for that review

Great meal and friendly service

Recently visited for a birthday meal with family and got to say this place has gone down hill food wise. We ordered Sunday Roast, everything seemed as if it had just been microwaved. Stale yorkshire puddings, gloopy gravy, chewy meat which was undercooked and even left us feeling ill that evening. The only good thing was the drinks. Didn't stay for desserts this time. It ruined my mothers birthday anyway. There are other places nearby which do much better Sunday roasts such as 'Old Hunter's Lodge' in Whipsnade. Won't be returning to the Star anytime soon

We went for a meal for my birthday because this pub used to be great. Only this time it was not good at all. The only good thing was the member of staff who served us, he has been at this pub for some time and is always nice. The Sunday roast here used to be lovely, this one wasnt, the pigs in blankets were small with hardly any bacon and it was incinerated, the Yorkshires were so crisp and tough i am not sure what happened to them, we declined a pudding based on this meal. Maybe it was the time of day we went, i am not sure, but when we went to pay the meal the guy on the till asked us if everything was ok i told him about the Pigs in blankets and the Yorkshire and the gravy not being very hot and he just said oh and walked away. So this will be my last visit to the Star, i wont be returning.

Really fancied an afternoon in a nice country pub. The star was recommended so we popped in for lunch a few drinks. It was a really nice meal with lovely attentive staff. The pub itself is a lovely place to sit and enjoy surroundings. Will definitely be back. We had steak and it was cooked beautifully.

had a lovely meal, there was a lot off on the menu, due to a gas problem, so no burgers, the manager was very apologetic.

On the day we visited alot of dishes were unavailable due to a problem with the gas in kitchen and them waiting for an engineer to come out.We managed to find something on menu available but had to wait a while before it was brought out.The starters came out but one was missing its dip and had to ask at bar for this to be rectified then mains came out in due course and these were average. All in all we were disappointed and are reluctant to return to this pub?

Amazing food, great host too. She was super efficient and all over service throughout The Star tonight. Me and my partner have left here this evening, 100% satisfied, and honestly, we have both said to one another this is by far the tastiest food we have eaten for our entire relationship together. Many thanks for the hospitality, we will definitely be back. I recommend here without any doubt at all.

A wonderful experience. We popped in on our way home from the airport. The hospitality team welcomed us like old friends even though it was our first time. The food was glorious. Brilliant experience, highly recommended.
