Met my friend here for some food. She booked for us at 7.15 as we found out that food stopped at 830. Just before 8pm when we were eating our food we were told they were closing at 830. Having only met 715 we felt rushed to finish our food and drinks and had to go elsewhere. Food was ok but I think could have been better for the prices.

Just stopped by chance for something to eat, we had the nicest roast dinner with all the trimmings, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, roasted carrots and parsnips, crispy roast potatoes, beans and Yorkshire pud! It was the loveliest pub roast I think I have ever had and a good serving too! My partner asked for a plate of chips and was served with a huge bowl of chunky, crispy and fluffy inside chips - absolutely outstanding! Will definitely be going back! Service was wonderful …

We had a lovely lunch here. The welcome was first class and the new decor was a great improvement on the pub under previous management. But it was the food which stood out. My father has a generous and tasty plate of fish and chips, my wife had a Cesars Salad with chicken, and I had homemade steak pie which was delicious. The vegetables were fresh and well cooked. It's a relatively limited menu but that means everything is freshly prepared. The contrast with my last visit which was before the new owners was remarkable. We shall definitely be back!

Great pub, but this Friday, they did call last orders at 9:30pm and kicked us out at 10pm even though there must have been 12 people still drinking and buying. Hello, I walked the Greater Ridgeway across England during August / September. I arrived at the Chequers a bit before opening time. But the lovely landlady made me a cup of tea. After a long walk it was very welcoming. Once they opened at midday I was greeted by extremely friendly staff smiling faces and lots of help with my onward journey. I had bangers and mash for lunch and a pint of cider. I couldn't fault this place at all , it's a lovely old genuine British pub with very friendly staff and very nice hearty food.

Nice pub and location but the food was overpriced and extremely lacking. We both ordered chicken burgers, tiny piece of chicken slapped between a dry disintegrating bun, tiny amount of nondescript salad and bland chips. Packet of mayonnaise was the highlight. Over £20 for a truly disappointing meal, how can you go wrong with burgers?!!! Only two beers available on tap. Only instant coffee available, 2 coffees and a tea came to £7.70!!! A real shame.

We went there yesterday as 1st time customers, I had a 'beef burger' - what I got was a patty slapped between a bun with no relish, no Lettice, no tomato - NOTHING except bread and a poorly cooked thin patty! Perhaps my expectations were higher than what they have on offer, but a single thin patty with a bun is NOT a great burger! I will never eat there again and really recommend that any other patrons do not order a 'beef burger' to avoid expectations! Rather visit McDonalds

My partner, her mum & myself went there on a Sunday leading up to Christmas. This is a Greene king country pub. The choice of ales was good, especially the Abbott Reserve. The food we ordered was poor compared to other country pubs we have eaten in recently. The salmon fillet looked anemic & was bland to taste, plus it was not very hot. I had the steak & ale pie which was piping hot with a puffed pastry lid. It was a little generic though. Plenty of filling & rich gravy but the steak filling was more akin to canned stewing steak or similar to the fray bentos tinned pies. The veg we all agreed was poor, it was watery & soft , this suggested to us that it was not fresh but frozen. The roast potatoes I had were very similar to 'aunt Bessie's' in style, suggesting they came pre prepared & frozen. The final meal was a gammon steak with pineapple. I was told that it tasted ok but it was thin in thickness. We did not stay for desserts because we thought these would be generic too. A footnote would be that the table next to us were also disappointed with their veg & agreed it was probably frozen & microwaved.

Chose this pub as it was close to a friend we were meeting up with plus they allow dogs. They only had festive menus available, given it was lunchtime a sandwich menu would have been good rather than having to select a main meal. We had Scampi and chips (typical fried frozen food, basically presented and a little expensive at £10.50), Steak and ale pie (nice meaty filling, undercooked pastry) and the other had two starters instead of a main (fried frozen breaded mushrooms plainly presented and a plate of chips. The food overall was nothing to shout about and could do with more imagination and quality overall.

From a chef review, I was very disappointed. Simple mistakes that I will not dream of doing. Or will. Roast dinner, it's a simple dish. you would expect to have it hot? (Stone Cold) you can poison someone! Fact. The beef was dry and very hard around the edges, The broccoli, cauliflower was mush, over cooked, - veg should not be mush, the roast potatoes, was burnt and soft. It was not lightly crispy for texture The carrots was brown, soft. The gravy was not special. This standard clearly states it was microwaved. Also don't pure the gravy over the potatoes. To hide that you have microwaved the food. All this was dished up like the chef didn't care. It shows. Sack the chef. From other reviews. It's an on going problem. The costumer service was poor. Some advice. Fix your problem and the quality of the food. You might be out of bussines. If you carry on.

This pub has gone downhill since our last visit, we were out to enjoy a belated birthday lunch with our dear friends, my husband had Gammon, egg, chips, his meal was okay, the rest of us (3) had a Roast Pork Dinner, my friend could not eat her meat, it was too tough to cut, even after asking for a steak knife, the Roast Potatoes were soft and soggy, I had trouble even cutting my Yorkshire Pudding, my piece of Cauliflower had a funny taste, couldn't eat it and it was all swimming in Gravy. When asked if everything was okay, I complained to the Waitress, she said she would speak to the Chef, consequently we were given one Adult meal for the price of a Kiddies meal. Then 3 of us had Pudding, Spotted Dick and custard, my friend had cream, had trouble cutting sponge, very chewy, the best bit was the custard and the cream. WE DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE GONG BACK THERE.

We use to go here for meals but it went downhill when it changed management a year or so ago. We went back again the other day and it's marginally better but lacks attention to detail, ie, salad dressing comes as standard - not everyone likes that, the coffee machine was out of action and the coffee they served was horrible, very weak, couldn't drink it. When the waitress took our plates away we weren't asked if we wanted desert or coffee or even refreshed drinks. We got the coffee at the bar and passed on the dessert as it was all the stodgy type, nothing light. The bread on the sandwiches was stodgy and the baked potato was tasteless. On the plus side very pretty with lovely flowers etc, cheap prices and the landlady was very nice and very good with making sure everyone (staff and customers) stopped to pay respect with the minutes silence for the Tunisia victims which impressed me because not everyone would have done that. We will go back intermittently just to see if it's improved and got back to it's old self but in the meantime somewhere else will have our custom.

I have had many good meals in The Chequers at Streatley, Bedfordshire. But it's changed hands and last time I was there I had the worst fish pie ever! I put that down to being new management. Today I was there with a friend and we both ordered Steak, mushroom & Ale pie. Neither of us could eat any of the meat at all! It was so hard you could hardly get a fork into it, and if you did then it was mainly just chewable gristle. Even that wouldn't have stopped our regular visits there, but when the barmaid asked us if everything was OK, we politely pointed out that it was inedible and she took both meals back. We had a couple of coffees each and when we asked for the bill, we were charged the full amount without so much as an apology for being served with such a disaster! If I was the chef I'd have been out straight away, apologised and offered something else - maybe with a discount. But to ignore us completely was just rude. I hope they at least tried one of their own pies. So our regular monthly pub-grub outing will now have to find another venue! Chequers at Streatley, pull yourselves together - ever heard of good service?

After reading reviews on Trip Advisor I decided to take my best friend here for her birthday lunch. It was a very good decision. I no longer live in the area but Streatley is a nice little village. There is a good choice on the menu. I had Piri Piri Salmon with Jacket Potatoes served with salad. My friend had the Ham, Egg and Chips with Salad but requested only a few chips and extra salad, which they were very happy to do. My friend had white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with cream for desert but I couldn't manage any myself. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. This was a Tuesday lunchtime and although I booked a table there was no need at it was quiet with most people opting to sit out in the sunshine. The food is very reasonably priced and I would recommend The Chequers to anyone who wants something quiet, relaxing and friendly.

Today myself and two colleagues decided to eat a business lunch and stopped into the this location. We all ordered simple sandwiches and I ordered mine without butter. When my meal arrived - the sandwich had butter. I do not like the taste of butter and took my sandwich back to ask for one very politely without butter. About three minutes later THE OWNER came back with my same plate of food and said that she had asked the chef who said he had not put butter in my sandwich. I opened my sandwich and showed her the butter - to which she again repeated the chef had not put butter in my sandwich. I sat there staggered and said if she was not going to replace it then I would just leave it! She grabbed my plate and walked away saying that she would change it and tell the chef that I am calling him a liar! I cannot believe that I would even be challenged as a customer and then be called a liar in a roundabout way without so much as an apology! The whole experience has left a very bitter taste in my mouth and as a very small pub in a quiet location should be wanting repeat business - my colleagues were appalled and I am still fuming at how an Owner can have such disrespect to a paying customer

My teenagers enjoyed a burger and chips, the slimmers had a grilled salmon dish, and I had a lovely steak and ale pie with piles of fresh veg. My wife and I both chose the cottage pie, and for £4.99 we had no complaints. Good size portion, tasted great, and left us very satisfied. Coffee could have been better - the machine was a little generic.

Very busy Sunday, staff did well to manage the numbers. Felt a bit inpersonal. Huge choice of dishes (almost too much choice!) Also huge portions - great for some people but felt a bit overwhelmed!

We actually enjoyed the entertainment very much. It was a local band covering rock and roll hits. The food and service was decent. Nothing outstanding, but nothing worthy of too much criticism. The sticky toffee pudding was spectacular.

Plain English cooking. Overcooked but large portions and fair prices.

As our local village pub we feel very lucky to have this on our doorstep and recommend it to others outside the village! We highly rate the food, the friendly service & events that the pub puts on. We've even held our own event in a section of the pub which was such a great evening & the buffet was incredible.

We were invited to try this pub, and we were not disappointed. Service was in good time and friendly, we didn't feel like we were left waiting but felt like we had enough time to choose what we wanted without feeling rushed. The food we had was very tasty, my wife having the Porchetta and I had the fish and chips, both were very tasty. I gave in to temptation and l had the Apple crumble, this was a lot larger than we had expected. No wonder the waiter brought two spoons! My only critique is that it could have done with more than one small scoop of ice cream. I'm sure if I would have asked I could have had another as it didn't last the crumble. But it didn't ruin a loverly meal and experience. The manager even recommended a trip across the road to the antique store, where my wife managed to find a much searched for Umbrella stand, so thank you for that too.

I was booked in here with the rest of my family for the 2 nights either side of my son's wedding. The accommodation is situated in the car park with the beer garden opposite. This made it too noisy for me to get an early night on the Friday as there were cars driving right past my room and a very noisy party in the beer garden. The person in the room above made a telephone call and I heard most of his side of that too. It finally quietened down around midnight. Saturday we were too busy partying elsewhere and when we got back at half midnight everything was quiet. The bed however was one of the comfiest I've ever slept on! I did struggle with the room being very hot as there was only 1 small opening window and I couldn't really sleep with the door open! As the website says it provides Bed and Breakfast, I was looking forward to a cooked breakfast. Sadly the reason there is a fridge in your room, is because you get presented with a small carton of milk and there is a small pack of cornflakes in your room, plus a cereal bar. Not what any of my family were expecting!
