Great Bar Service and atmosphere

Great location in a small market town. Good size pub with decent beers. Food is good, with particularly decent breakfast. Staff were all very helpful. Hotel rooms nice and clean and comfy.

TIRED ROOMS , NO PARKING AT HOTEL. EXPENSIVE FOR A TIRED HOTEL. LOTS OF STAIRS TO ROOM 5. SHOWER FLOODS THE FLOOR, PLUS LOTS OF MOULD. NOT THE CLEANEST PLACE. FOOD QUITE EXPENSIVE WITH 10% ADDED WHETHER YOU GOT GOOD SERVICE OR NOT...ALTHOUGH IT TASTED GOOD (SUN LUNCH) GOOD BFAST NEEDS A REFIT IM AFRAID! I'VE STAYED IN MUCH BETTER FOR LESS £S

Sorry to say this but overpriced and The food was a bit bland the staff weren't happy at their job. That's all I can say .. definitely not impressed

We had a nice brunch for my husband's birthday. The chicken rosti was delicious, well-presented, and definitely a highlight. The atmosphere outside was lovely. Overall, the service was good, but since we only ordered at the bar, we didn't interact much with the staff. I’m looking forward to enjoying the sun in the courtyard on my next visit!

Worst bar service from a local pub. Understand it may be busy at weekends but having to wait 20-25 mins to get served is ridiculous employ more staff.

We arrived on time at 12.45 for lunch, table reserved. We ordered 2 childrens meals ,4 fish and chips and a pizza. We waited. And waited. We had bread and so we chatted whilst eating that but at 2.15pm we asked about our food. We were told 5 minutes. We asked again 20 minutes later and the adult meals finally arrived at 2.40 pm. The children's 10 minutes later. One child had crudités including carrot. The carrots were brown and had grown mould. The battered fish was dark and burned. It was difficult to find any fish, no flakes just stringy white bits ingrained into the burnt batter. Had it not been that it was a birthday celebration I would have sent mine back! A second orange squash was ordered and orange juice was served. This was removed and squash served. We quietly had a word and when the bill came there was a reduction of 20% but we had been charged for the mouldy veg ,the orange juice we hadnt ordered and a service charge of over £16 had been added. We asked for the bull to be adjusted to remove the service charge,the £2 for mouldy carrots and the drink we did not order. There was then debate because the manager also removed the 20% discount saying if the service charge wasn't paid there could be no discount. I think it is safe to say the wait was not worth the food served. The fish and chip meal at £19.50 was the worst I have ever had. To serve mouldy carrots to children is just disgraceful and the "don't really care attitude of the staff" just topped it off. And we had a very long time to watch attitudes! We will never go there again and my advice is don't chance it.

My recent experience at White Hart in Ampthill was unfortunately marred by extremely impolite and discourteous service from the bar staff. This was quite disappointing and has led me to the decision that I will not be returning to that pub ever again. Yesterday evening, after work on Thursday, February 28th, at approximately 7 o'clock, an unpleasant incident occurred when I popped in to the pub with my laptop after work intending to complete some work. I had a couple of drinks, then with the establishment becoming increasingly crowded, I approached the bar to order another, politely explaining that I felt I was occupying excessive space at my current table and inquiring about the availability of a smaller table equipped with a power outlet (as noone had bothered to come up to me and say anything about the situation). The response I received from the individual behind the bar, a rather unpleasant individual, was far from welcoming. With a dismissive tone, he replied, “Yeah, I know,” indicating that he was aware of the situation but was not willing to assist, and simply said they were fully booked. I packed up my belongings and told him to forget about the drink. Although a nicer young woman approached me and provided a more reasonable response as I was gathering my things, the initial encounter had already left a negative impression on me. Considering the numerous times I’ve dined at that establishment, I can only recall enjoying a satisfactory meal on a single occasion. They know how to cook a roast dinner. I do too, but I don’t charge £20 for it. I’ll never forget the time some pretentious person corrected my pronunciation of “Milanese”—then the food was burnt! Never again.

I was unimpressed by our visit today due to slow/inattentive service and disappointing food. We were a table of 10 that had pre-booked, although it felt like we kept being forgotten because the main pub was packed and there were not enough staff. One person didn't get their food (order forgotten) and had to sit for 10 mins watching others eat. Some of our mains were lukewarm, and the ice cream on our desserts was well and truly melting. This pub is targeting the top of the market and has raised its prices (again). However, you must provide a top-quality product if you want to charge top money. We deserved better at £45+ a head. Finally, the sound of barking dogs in the bar downstairs doesn't add to the ambience.

Unfortunately the standard has gone down since I last ate here. We booked for lunch on a Friday and a wedding was also being catered for . It seemed that there was only one waitress who was run off her feet . We felt sorry for her but the service was very slow. They really needed more staff. Our main dishes were nice though mine was lukewarm in temperature. Apparently it had been sitting on the side but the waitress had been too busy to bring our meals to us until we asked. Also the sticky toffee pudding I ordered for dessert was really awful. Slimy texture and tasteless. The ice cream was nice! Such a shame things have gone downhill.

Bad experience. The staff have no manners. Then make you feel inconveniencing them to ask for a table when you are a walk in. The food takes ages to come. And the prices have gone up. I have been coming to this pub for 20 years for the lunch and staff and service have gone down hill. Short brown haired girl flirting with boyfriend instead of answering our questions. Really not what it used to be.

I live in ampthil area and have been coming to the pub for more than a decade and the service today was appalling. Young girl with long brown hair so rude and giving us dirty looks throughout our meal. We were faced towards the bar but would not expect a staff member to make us feel so uncomfortable.

A good lunch menu with a selection of roasts and other dishes. I had swordfish with capers and olives. Well prepared, cooked and served. Helpful and cheerful staff.

A lot of character in this building. It was very clean & helpful staff. I was a little disappointed that there was only one steak available & the drink selection was limited but I think my level of expectation was also very high based on the price & appearance of the hotel. Breakfast the next morning was delicious though.

having travelled for half an hour to have lunch here we were seated and then waited 15 mins - no sign of a server, no menus, drinks orders nor even a 'we'll be with you shortly' - both our table of four and an adjacent table walked out highly unimpressed - maybe the owners should invest in some basic staff training - will not waste our time returning

I can't recommend this place enough! Emily was super helpful with our preorders and accommodating a food allergy, which made everything so easy. The festive specials we had were delicious, and it was great that the food all came out together. We felt really well looked after with drinks always topped up, and the atmosphere was perfect for our celebration. Overall, it was just a lovely evening that exceeded my expectations!

We recently celebrated our autumn wedding at The Stables at The White Hart in Ampthill. We chose the venue because it was intimate and cosy, perfect for a small wedding. The staff at The White Hart are outstanding! They’re very friendly, welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. In particular, Amber, Ola and Emily were the staff who managed our booking. I always felt like I was in good hands with them from start to finish. On the day everything was perfect - the venue was set up as we’d planned and it looked fabulous! The food and drinks were amazing, and all the guests commented on how delicious the porchetta was!! Staff on the day were very attentive and helpful. The atmosphere and ambience inside and outside was perfect for our special day, and we can’t thank the team enough for making it so unforgettable!!! We would highly recommend this venue to couples looking for the perfect venue ❤️

Overal 1 star for poor DJ choice. So overpriced for poor performance person that plays same music and does not play requested music, especially for New Year event. Can you please next time hire fun DJ that knows how to entertain people not herself.

I usually love this place but on Christmas Day it was terrible. The main course was missing two items that are meant to be included, the food was over seasoned with salt. Staff handed my meal to someone on another table then lifted it from under them and came to me with it. I personally don’t want food that was given to someone else. In the end we ended up getting our desserts to go. I was so looking forward to the Christmas meal there but for £236 for two people it was not worth it, I wouldn’t even pay half that. It’s a real shame I’ve only had good things in the past.

My Daughters booked and paid for a table at the White Hart on Christmas eve. Once they arrived at the White Hart to celebrate Christmas the DOOR STAFF Would not let them in ( someone on a power trip ).I had to send transport to pick them up. Thankfully the Hide bar let them until they were picked up. Thanks the door staff at the Hide. Maybe the White Hart needs better standard door staff.

Having been here before I had something to compare it with. The Christmas menu offered good choice . However last year it tasted better . Service was fantastic. Drinks we great. Just food could have been better .

Lack of car park let this hotel down, but there's nothing can be done about that. The welcome was fantastic. The food and breakfast was brilliant. I especially liked the Shakshuma for breakfast. Very spicy!

Someone said in the middle of Ampthill next to the roundabout let's get a drink. And like that, the White Hart brushed open their doors and we were sweeped in. One pint is never enough right.

We had a wonderful meal at The White Hart. It is a gorgeous pub with a delicious menu and a real ambience. The staff were so attentive and friendly. We were sat right next to a birthday party, and some of the guests from the party were quite loud and all stood around our table, which made us feel a bit uncomfortable. Without us even saying anything, the staff offered us free drinks by way of apology. This was so kind, especially as it was not their fault at all. I'd really recommend this as a place for a lovely meal out.

Journey stop off didn't disappoint, what a lovely place to eat. All food served was excellent.

We were invited to try this pub, and we were not disappointed. Service was in good time and friendly, we didn't feel like we were left waiting but felt like we had enough time to choose what we wanted without feeling rushed. The food we had was very tasty, my wife having the Porchetta and I had the fish and chips, both were very tasty. I gave in to temptation and l had the Apple crumble, this was a lot larger than we had expected. No wonder the waiter brought two spoons! My only critique is that it could have done with more than one small scoop of ice cream. I'm sure if I would have asked I could have had another as it didn't last the crumble. But it didn't ruin a loverly meal and experience. The manager even recommended a trip across the road to the antique store, where my wife managed to find a much searched for Umbrella stand, so thank you for that too.

What a beautiful pub, the food was amazing especially the scotched eggs

First of all, when we arrived the table that I reserved had been given to someone else. Secondly, half of my meal was almost cold and the egg that I asked to be well fried wasn't. Thirdly, two members of staff were having a shouted conversation from behind the bar with another diner at the table right beside us, such that we had to complain that we could not hear ourselves talking. (They were shouting partly to be heard over the inane muzack.) My experience the last time I was here wasn't much different, so this is the last time.

My sons wedding, a lovely venue and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I will say now having spoken to my son and found the cost per head I need to complain. 60 ,15 of those young children), guests and we were all hungry. A few bowls of pasta a dish of roast new potatoes, a dish roast veg , salad and chicken even the legs were cut in half.. Then in the evening pizza and chips.....the chips came out after the pizza's had been eaten. Come on White Hart, I could of catered for this at half the price, it is a rip off. 80% of us wedding guests had some sort of sickness bug, I am not saying it was the food but my son did e mail to say this just to give you heads up...no response.....very poor .

The food was absolutely delicious, and our drinks kept flowing thanks to their attentive service. The atmosphere was perfect for such a special occasion, and everything was spotless. Had a problem with fruit flies in the bar area, got them in our drinks too! Don't stay on a Tuesday night/Wednesday as bins are collected at 4.45 in the morning, nice wake up call!

Been lots of times to the white hart having lived in Ampthill since we were born, the service was good however there was a severe fly issue in the pub and around our dinner. I would highly recommend this getting sorted out asap as spoken to a few people since who experienced the same problem. I would say it’s a pest control issue and now pleasant whatsoever

Very nice historic building in a great location however the beer quality is poor for ales and IPA . Food is not much better but has been a lot better in the past. I have spent a lot of time in the past in this bar but sadly the beer today is not great

Disappointing Sunday roast. Food was lukewarm, potatoes undercooked and a serious lack of gravy. Overpriced for the quality of what we received.

A fantastic restaurant. This was recommended by the owner of our accommodation and it lived up to expectations. We had pizza which were fantastic. It's great to get a wood fired pizza in a non-italian restaurant. The staff were excellent and showed an interest in where we were from and why we were in the area. The downside is that you have to pay to park in a nearby public car park

Nice old place in the centre of Ampthill - which is a really nice market town. Only one real ale on when I visited but it was good. Food is good, well presented and tasty. Not cheap, but not overly expensive either.

Lovely hotel with great atmosphere and friendly staff. My room (4) was really nice, clean and comfortable. Decent choice of beer and the breakfast was very good and excellent value. Only downsides are, the car park which is £8 for 24 hours, the WiFi isn't great in the room.

Thought we’d try here for lunch, and the food was actually pretty good, with a varied menu….which was what appealed to us. That is where the good news ends. Service was pretty much the worst we’ve ever received, and to top it off they sneak a 10% service charge ion to your bill, even for a table of 2. The young lady that served us in the restaurant appeared like it was her first day and had been plonked there off the street. No idea what ales they had on draught and made me walk to the bar to look for myself. There was one option! My wife ordered a glass of champagne, to which she was asked “small, medium or large” Are you kidding!!! What then turned up was flat and tasted like the bottle had been open for a month. When queried, the bar staff actually argued and said it was freshly opened…..eventually swapping it for an alternative drink. The shouting and screaming coming from the kitchen also detracted from the experience. Massive disappointment, and I having looked it up here it is clear that we aren’t the only ones. The lack of management response to reviews clearly shows they don’t give two hoots either. Save your money and go anywhere else. Shame as the food was good, but lacking everywhere else.

Really nice hotel we stayed in for a wedding. Staff are great, food is good. Rooms amazing. But it is a very building so expect noise and in room rooms a wobbly floor

Really cute pub on the main high street in Ampthill. Stayed in the BnB upstairs, which was really spacious. The staff were super friendly. Brunch the next morning was yummy, too!

What a fantastic find, stopped off with family for a late Sunday afternoon dinner and what a wonderful venue. Food and service were amazing, spotlessly clean and the place had a really nice friendly vibe. So good, I’ll be going back next weekend. We held the wake at the White Hart after my mother's funeral. We paid £18 per head for a preselected buffet for around 35 people, some of whom had travelled many miles to pay their respects. The buffet consisted of 2 or 3 plates of mediocre sandwiches and one plate of hummus dip and a few peppers. The latter went very quickly as there just wasn't enough. The sandwiches were barely enough. The place itself has a nice feel to it, and the private function room was ideal. Similarly, the staff were efficient and helpful. This review is purely about the extortionate charge made for a few sandwiches and a plate of hummus. Oh, there were also 2 big bowls of standard fayre fries. Great. Not being one to rush to give negative views, and baring in mind the occasion, I went in to the White Hart the next day and spoke privately to a very helpful assistant manager who took the time to listen to my issues and made plenty of notes, assuring me he would pass them up the line to more senior management. I have no doubt he did that. And yet, after 2 weeks, there has been no response, and I doubt one is forthcoming. I won't be returning and certainly caution against booking an important event here.

A warm can of 0% Guinness and a medium ( medium!!) glass of cheap sauvignon £16.45 . Not sure where they think they are .. maybe in a London rooftop not in an average pub in Ampthill. Pizza was also expensive and average.

as we stayed at teh White Hart for several nights we had a number of dinners and breakfasts there. Each meal was very good, great service, quality of food excellent. The servers and manager could not do enough for you, great effort.

We came to celebrate fathers day with my family, my daughters fiance and his family, group of 10 plus a 2 year old. I ordered the slow roasted beef. Worst roast I've ever eaten (left) the beef was impossible to cut, let alone chew. The potatoes were bruised , it also came with half a brocoli and a buscuit, that I presume was meant to be a Yorkshire pudding. Not worth £22. Won't be eating there again

Very much like this pub. Nice and cosy, clean and tidy. Helpful staff and good food. Really nice atmosphere. Will come back again!

While the food itself was good, service was not. We had one course and a coffee and it took 2 plus hours (it didn't even seem to be that busy). We had to ask what was happening with our order as the table next to us who had arrived and ordered after us were served well before us, while we just waited without any communication or explanation from the staff. When we did ask, the meal appeared quite quickly which just made us wonder if they had simply forgotten us and the meals had been waiting in a heated service area. Then we waited ages for the plates to be removed, eventually managed to order some coffees which arrived 15 minutes later and were at best luke warm. Staff were pleasant enough (just a little inattentive) but unless you have a lot of time on your hands I wouldn't recommend eating here.

Had a lunchtime meeting here today Two excellent cappuccino’s and excellent brunch plates I had the Egg Funghi which was really lovely - poached eggs were spot on Colleague had the smoked salmon with avocado which he said was really good too Friendly attentive service also - Ola back running the White Hart has made a big difference I think

Drinks late to table part of a meal left in the kitchen and then charged £5.50 for a side serving of prawns there were 4.5 prawns on the plate when it was queried I was told that it was company rules . Prawns were no bigger than a two pence piece Absolutely shocking

I have no words as to how bad this was !!! Waited 20min for a beer should have been a sign of things to come !!! It just got worse !!!! Over and an hour and twenty min wait for a roast on a Sunday !!!! With no communication apparently there had been an accident in n the kitchen ??? But if that were true would you not think to tell the waiting tables

Have never had a bad meal here ! Hadn’t eaten here for a while but hubby and I chose here out of all on offer in ampthill today we chose lots of small dishes plus one main on the special all were delicious the muscles were big fresh and tasty It was lovely to see Ola back as manager she’s been trained well and knows how to run the business. It’s definitely improving where it needed

We arranged a table for 17 (children and adults) quite last minute. We were able to pre-order our food and they rang and checked the order with us. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. My little one chose sausages and enjoyed the food too. My only gripe was when we ordered drinks we weren't allowed/offered to make a tab and were asked to come down to the bar to pay before they arrived. They allowed us to bring a birthday cake with us and kindly gave us plates and a cake knife to cut it up. If in the area again we would visit for lunch!

The hotel has some character but is in need of of investment - I award 4 stars as a result. It is essentially a pub with rooms. My partner is staying for 2 nights and the room is growing on him. Great WiFi , lovely bath, constant hot water, lovely pillows, hair dryer etc - worth every penny. It is well located for the courts, Waitrose is a few minutes away and there are lots of independent shops. Breakfast was nice but was not enamoured with last night’s meal. May dine out tonight.

Had lunch here last weekend with my grandparents which was great. Our waitress (I think her name was Maddy) was really lovely and patient with my grandparents, and dealt very well with a difficult table behind us.

Ordered food from the bar. No one asked about allergies. It was delivered by a very rude waitress who chucked the food on the table without saying anything. My partners pizza (she’s a vegetarian) was cut after mine which had Nduja on it. It was obvious on her vegetarian pizza. Then the waitress was very put out when we asked for ketchup/salt and pepper. Made to feel a nuisance and inconvenience. It’s a shame as the Oakmann Inns group is generally good but this is a poor experience compared to others we’ve been to.

We personally didn’t stay at this hotel, but we came here for lunch on a recommendation. Lunch was exceptionally tasty. I had the eggs Benedict and would say it’s the best one I’ve had. Service was good and friendly staff and will be back again soon.

Great location on the highstreet. Unfortunately parking is £8 per night! The rooms are very quiet, you couldn't hear the pub at all. Very firm beds- which some people like but not personally for me. Overall a good experience though. Handy having the food in the pub.

It's gorgeous, but we won't be back. Booked their family room for our young family and I genuinely don't understand how you can promote a family friendly stay when the room is almost completely inaccessible with a pram. The room wasn't cleaned well, when I hopped out the shower, you could see the former guests had written "I see dead people" in the mirror, visible only with the steam. Hilarious, but definitely hadn't been cleaned properly! When we came down at 5.30pm, we were told to be careful on the stairs because a drunk woman had thrown up on the stairs. At 5.30pm! In a venue meant to be family friendly.

Lovely family meal this Sunday, 12 of us and all food came out hot and was delicious. Friendly staff made us feel welcome from the start and our waitress Maddy very friendly and nothing was too much bother for her with different requests.

Great staff great location great service and a fabulous party venue

First time coming here again in a while and the service has gone backwards. Food was very slow to come out and also found the staff a little bit rude, simple requests seemed like it was a bit too much effort. This is a shadow of what it was a few years back and is a bit of a shame.

Popped in for Saturday morning breakfast and it was fantastic. Food cooked to perfection, nice coffee, lovely atmosphere and hospitality second to none. Look forward to going back.

The winds were blistering cold the other evening, whilst out on my walk! So I decided to pop into the White Hart for a winter warmer. The staff were lovely but one young lady in particular went above and beyond for me. I have never been treated so well! Miss Chantelle Williams. You were an absolute delight. So kind and thoughtful. You made me feel at home! You are a treasure to the White Hart! I wish you all the best in your future and may your efforts be rewarded and recognised. Thank you again.

Met here with some friends for dinner which had been booked. On arrival the seating was a bit strange, they had to juggle chairs to accommodate us. The seating juggling continued for a large part of the evening as more diners arrived. We ended up with a table in the corner in the restaurant upstairs. The lighting was so poor we used our phones for light to read the menu. The staff agreed that the lighting was inadequate. The food was okay, but not brilliant. The service was good and the staff attentive. Probably will not return any time soon.

Long wait for ordering and for the food, when it did come my order was incorrect. I Was then charged for the incorrect item on my bill, when I pointed out to waitress of the error she told me it ‘doesn’t matter they’re the same price anyway’ …which I advised her they were not… she soon corrected the bill for me. Shame the service is so poor as the food is good

A lovely afternoon. Sat in a little corner opposite the pizza oven. Next to a fire. Was lovely and cosy. Staff were friendly. Food was wholesome and delicious.

Me and my girls went out for birthday night out and stopped at the white hart. Absolutely brilliant service, sever Owen was absolutely amazing to accommodate an all our needs and was so friendly and helpful. Reeneh (assistant manger ) had everything under control within the establishment. Will definitely be returning!!

We waited over 20 min, then we are accused of being difficult. The manager then threatened us, and it got out of control. After a fun evening in ampthil, this pubs arrogance wrecked it

Rooms were really comfortable and noise insulated, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Great value for money and would highly recommend
