The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Had a one night stay with my dog and elderly Mum. The staff were very welcoming, friendly, professional and efficient. Our room was beautifully decorated and furnished with all of the amenities you’d want for a short stay. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp clean white sheets and we even had a dog bed, bowl and welcome pack in our room for Margot (the dog). We also enjoyed our evening meal which was delicious and again our server was excellent. The pub was obviously very popular with locals and had a very friendly atmosphere that any visitors would enjoy. Will definitely stay here again - Thank you Red Lion team for our making our stay so enjoyable.

Visited the Kingston Arms a couple of weeks ago, I noticed there was a new member of who I think is also a local because I recognised him from when I've been in a few times before. He was so miserable, and absolutely stank of BO as if he hadn’t change his top in a while or washed. I have a very sensitive stomach and safe to say I didn’t want him handling next drink or me getting near him to smell it again so went elsewhere after. Shame as the pub is a favourite of mine when I visit Cambridge.

Fabulous roast dinner served piping hot and ample servings of vegetables. Only downside was that the service was so slow and we had to keep asking for drinks/menu/water etc which was such a shame. Food was so good though we’d probably give it another go.

Have been to the Barn Restaurant several times over the last two years and the food is always top quality and great value, the barn itself is really nice interior with great changing facilities for a little one, and the service of all the members of staff are always exceptional ⭐️

Around 18 of us had the Anchor booked for lunch and it was very very good. Welcoming friendly staff and an obviously excellent chef. Eighteen orders served at the same time, all hot and superbly cooked. If you are looking for a good lunch in Woodbridge then this is the place to go.

We had a fabulous evening here on Saturday - we are local and love it here - our 4 friends that came up to Suffolk from Surrey that ate here with us are very well travelled and love their food /wine. They were blown away with the quality and range of choices (especially the Hake), and also the ambience and the wonderful owners and staff. Thank you so much for a lovely evening. See you soon. Excellent Pub, always welcoming, some of the Staff that were on site Emma, Ryan,Liam, Brett, James, Harry, Cam, were brilliant.

The Hare is literally my go to restaurant for the most amazing Pork Belly. The cut is plentiful and always cooked to perfection with a huge amount of crackling. We were there recently for a family meal and all 9 of us commented how good to food was, even better since the last time we went (i'd also have given an Excellent rating for that meal). We will be back soon

Good selection of beer and wine, excellent menu, busy for lunch but very efficient kitchen and friendly staff. Absolutely superb sharing player of seafood… though, given I had ordered it for missed, they could have not wasted the green leafy stuff in the middle. Popular, even in mid week, for good reasons!

We travelled for half an hour to eat here as the food is soooo good. The average review score really doesn't do this charming pub and excellent cuisine justice. Amazing choice of burgers and great quality at reasonable prices. My husband has already sampled 3 of the burger options and tonight I went for duck breast, which was excellent. Very welcoming freeholder with good choice of beers and wines. Dog friendly. Ticks all our boxes!!

On our first night in Great Yarmouth we wondered into the "Marine" looking for some food. The Pub was quiet, and all the Staff were genuinely friendly. My Wife has Gallstones and is waiting an Operation so has to be so careful what she eats, the Staff were able to adapt a Prawn Salad for her, which we appreciated. I'm a huge Pie guy, and I chose the Homemade Steak and Ale Pie, which was a bit special, and I can't say I've eaten many, if any better. It's truly delicious. Thanks to everyone there for a lovely meal. Definitely drop in and try the Homemade Steak and Ale Pie.

Fantastic food! Had 1 large and 1 medium cod, both fresh and tasty! Chips were perfect too! We saw someone recommend this place only a local fb page and was well worth the visit for a good fish and chips. Staff are very friendly too!

We are locals and this is our favourite pub. We moved to Suffolk 5 years ago and they have always made us feel so welcome. All the staff work so hard and are so friendly .The home cooked food is gorgeous and always so fresh. The pan fried chicken is absolutely amazing. They also host charity nights which are great fun. If you want a cosy friendly Suffolk pub with superb food, give The Golden Key a try .

The home cooked food is superb as is the service. Totally recommend.
