First visit for along time and it will be our last we bought an £11-50 breakfast and the bacon and egg was not cooked properly beans just poured on top of it all also bought quiche and jacket potato the potato was hard and inedible and too much salad on the plate I wanted to complain but my partner didn’t and just wanted to leave we live in downham market so it’s quite a treck for us I know we only spent £22 but we are pensioners and have to look out for our money and this is not money well spent thank you for your time to read this Jean slater 01366384915

Lovely coffee shop- great coffee and delicious scone. But what a great pity I can't take my daughter there -- she's VEGAN! In this day and age of alternative diets, it is a big shame there aren't at least a few vegan options in the cake section.

We stopped here for tea and cake. The selection of cakes was fantastic, however when I asked which were dairy free or vegan I was told none. One server offered me a gluten free cake but didn't know if it contained milk and I had to prompt them to find out. The upshot was that they have no milk free (or vegan) cakes or snacks, which is a shame. I dare say they lose custom because of it.

Was rather disappointed with our meal. The place was clean and friendly staff but the food was a let down to how I remembered it from a few years back. I fully understand that prices have gone up and am happy to pay just over £12 for a lunch. However when ordering ham egg and chips I didn’t expect such a small portion. We were given one egg, one small slice of ham and about 10 chips. The food was good quality but not worth that much money. We all decided to have cake and that was also a disappointment, very dry sadly!

We've been coming here for years and the quality of the tea is great. A good-sized pot and plenty for extra cups. Sadly, however, the quality of the cakes has diminished dramatically. I used to have a flapjack as I was assured it was made with butter. It probably is but one of the options was to have chocolate on it. It's cheap, nasty cooking chocolate that tastes awful. I have more recently opted for a cheese scone having also tried the date and walnut. Both now are way too large, under-cooked and stodgy. I had to leave some of mine today as it was sticking to the roof of my mouth. They're bland too. The portion sizes of the cakes is far too large, too. Come on, Thaxters, this is not the quality we came to expect!

It is so good to have hot ( and may I add, delicious) food served on a hot plate. I am a slow eater but my last mouthfuls were not lukewarm like in a lot of places. Also coffee is very good.

We had booked an afternoon tea and were greeted by welcoming staff. The coffee shop was clean and looked amazing with their Christmas decorations. We had a good selection of freshly made sandwiches, gorgeous sausage rolls and quiche and a fantastic choice of cakes and scones. The staff were attentive to our needs and couldn’t do enough for us. Highly recommended! Thank you ☺️

I have to say this was a poor Sunday lunch - is everything pre cooked? Food was lukewarm, and Yorkshire Puddings were cold and the meal was just not enjoyable. i know a neighbouring table sent their food back as it wasn't hot. Normally food here is fine but a lot of room for improvement

Stopped by on way home from the coast and we like thaxters garden centre. I am so disappointed. Firstly the place is filthily I was wiping dirty and dust off the walls! There was coffee stains up the wall clearly not been cleaned in a while. Staff member a male had very little enthusiasm about his job. I asked him if he had any dairy free or vegan cakes he looked at me like I just committed murder. I asked for a glass of apple juice he pointed at fridge. Not ideal

Stopped off for a quick sandwich lunch on our way to the coast. Enter to find a cabinet of cold drinks, a cabinet of cake, a board for breakfast items and another for main meals. Had to ask at the till if they did a sandwich. Server pointed to an A5 menu just below the till which was clearly designed to push people to the more obvious options. Ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 lattes. Sitting outside as we had the dog with us. Coffees came out - fine but no sugar so had to go inside to find some. A tub with just a couple of sachets left found by the till so took those but could have done with more. 20 minutes later still waiting for food but noticed food brought out to people who had sat down after us. My husband went in to investigate. Luckily I'd asked for a receipt so we could prove what we'd ordered and paid for. The server just said, "well we're busy" but then went to the kitchen and instantly came back with our sandwiches so they must have just been sitting there but not brought out. 2 stars because to be fair, the food was actually very nice but didn't really make up for the poor service and the fact that you're not made to feel particularly welcome. Management of this place needs to take a long hard look at itself .

There was no other tables available at that point so I was made to feel very uncomfortable with a staff member abruptly asking me if I had finished my meal yet. And the pastry was soggy. Such a disappointment. The salad was okay..lots of coke saw smothered in dressing.. bit too much. My husband enjoyed his cheese scone and we bought cake to bring home. The free coffee refills are always a bonus...maybe next time I'll stick to a sandwich.

Having ate here at a previous time with lovely food and friendly service. We decided as a pre Christmas treat we would take my mum and sister here for lunch. Month in advance I pre ordered a afternoon tea which at £17 per head I expected better. I pre ordered a non dressed prawn salad. Afternoon tea is after 2 pm when they also stop serving hot dinners . So my partner ended up with soup.we asked to sit in the more warmer looking room which had few dinners . Only to be told no tables for four which was a lie . Then when I pointed out a table told it was reserved. Where we sat was cold. I was surprised to see a saucer with a Christmas napkin. This was to eat our food from. My sister who struggles with food ended up with a plate of salad because the prawns were dressed so could not eat. I ended up boxing my food to take home. Which ended up in the bin. The scone was plain and heavy sandwiched together with jam and cream tasteless .all pastry was heavy except the quiche which was nice. But I do feel service was poor ,you were made to feel unwelcome. I wish I took my my mum somewhere else. We will not be returning

We called in for coffee and cake before visiting the garden centre. It was busy, early lunchtime, but we got a table for 2 no problem. Queuing up to order, there was a display cabinet full of a really good assortment of cakes, but disappointingly nothing was labelled (either what the cake is or ingredients / allergens). There was a sign clearly displayed advising customers to discuss any dietary requirements with the staff, which we did and they were helpful - although we felt like we were holding up the queue. If items on display were labelled it could speed up the queue somewhat. We ordered a latte and hot chocolate - this was put through the till as filter coffee by mistake but quickly rectified, and an almond slice and millionaire shortbread. There was a delay getting the drinks made so we paid and took our cakes to the table and our drinks arrived a few minutes later. Overall we had nothing to complain about, nice enough.

What is it with old people? I was in fact told to remove my face covering whilst standing in the queue as the serving girl couldn't hear me....Coffee was a tube of Nescafe topped up with boiling water, my preferred cappuccino not on the menu! It was not a good sign when i got the dirtiest plate with dry looking vegetables, a SLICE of mash and a chicken and ham pie with under-cooked pastry. As we were guests i tried to eat as much as i could but it was utterly awful. My wife's lasagne was equally dreadful. The kids had chips (there was no children's menu) so they didn't care.I didn't think places like this still existed. My husband and I and our two sons came in for breakfast on Sunday morning whilst we were staying in the area. The bacon was of good quality, and the staff were friendly. However, I could only describe the breakfast as undercooked. The bacon was just cooked, no crispy bits or anything, and the same for the hash brown and egg. The beans too were hard, and the mushrooms were cold. It was also a bit highly priced, to be honest. We will go elsewhere next time.

When we are in the UK we use this Café a lot I am afraid it is on the slippery slope down hill the owners must have noticed as the number of clients has fallen the regulars we used to see do not come anymore. The food is not so good we sent the toast back twice ist time it was crust second time burnt

Having only been once before, I decided to have breakfast here as I was just getting my car MOTd. I turned up at 08:40 on a Monday morning, but it was closed; however they didn't have the opening times on the door, so I had to go to the gardening centre next door to find out what time they opened. They opened at 9am as expected, so I turned up just before, to find two people ahead of me. My experience was not helped by someone one of them knew, sitting in a car, and then turning up and blatantly pushing in in front of me as if he had been 'queueing' with the rest of us. This of course is not the coffee shop's fault, but it put me in a bad frame of mind. They then opened about 5 minutes late, as we were all waiting outside, but the worst thing for me was that three of the tables in one corner were dirty, with one table covered in crumbs (I took a photo if anyone wants to dispute this). Bear in mind this is first thing, Monday morning - if you can't be bothered to clean your tables when you open your doors for the week, I can't be bothered to provide you with my service. The breakfast was too expensive, so I had a muffin and coffee, which was OK but not worth £5. It's probably an OK place, and there were plenty of people there so I expect it has its regulars, but I can't forgive those dirty tables. Won't be back.

Went with my husband and children, bit tired round the edges. Thy had food from the counter but I ordered a hot baguette. After 25 minutes of waiting for mine (my husband had left with my son as they were fed up) I went inside to find out where it was. A man was just finishing asking where his jacket potato was as they’d been waiting some time and then a lady in the queue said they’d been waiting 45 minutes for their baguettes! When it came 5 mins later, it wasn’t very appetising, lukewarm bacon, Brie not even melted, I had a few bites then left it. Won’t hurry back.

No waiting, staff very efficient and attentive. A good touch that a table cloth was provided. Afternoon tea was served, not pretty, but plenty of food. A good range of sandwiches (with crusts) ham, cheese, tuna; sausage rolls, quiche, and a range of cakes including scone with cream and jam thereon. Tea and coffee were replenished on request. Down point was that the sandwiches were not dainty, more man sized along with the fillings. More than sufficient food for any healthy appetite. Would probably have appreciated some more cream and jam on the scone though. Nice enough place for tea in the afternoon.

Visited this morning with a friend. Excellent full English breakfast, as always. However the occasion was sullied by the fact that I was told that the policy was one free coffee refill and no more. Inexplicably, my friend did not receive the same rebuttal, nor did any of the other customers. In order for the policy to be applied fairly a consistent approach to ALL customers is required. Furthermore, perhaps a sign to this effect at the till would be sensible.

Whenever I stay in Norfolk I visit Thaxters garden centre and round it off with a good home cooked meal. A lovely clean place to eat, very friendly staff, and excellent food

We visited the coffee shop for coffee and a snack. I was served a huge piece of cake which I discovered was nearly past its prime, we had to ask for a clean tray then one of us ordered two slices of toast, nothing complicated but was on the second cup of coffee before it arrived and was cold. The staff work at one speed and don’t voluntarily clear dirty plates from tables. All in all not recommended

Have called here every year whilst on holiday. This time I was left very disappointed.I ordered 2 filled baguettes ,latte and pot of tea, young girl had trouble taking order and had to repeat it 3 times. Sat waiting and one baguette and drinks arrived, latte was very weak and only just warm and when I queried where other baguette was waitress went to find out. After 10 minutes she came back and said the girl had only written one baguette on the order and they had now run out!A few days before we had a sandwich and drinks and this came with just a side salad however the baguette included crisps, not sure why you don't get crisps with both? Looks like we'll be going elsewhere from now on.

We like going to Thaxters because the tea and coffee are served in proper china and the meals are always very good quality and quantity (smaller portions are available if needed). There is usually a good selection of cakes available and again, the quality is very good. The coffee shop and garden centre can be busy at times and parking can then be a problem.

We live in Dersingham and regularly go to Thaxters for coffee and a light lunch or cake. We like to take our visitors there too but it does seem that some days are better than others and we're not sure why? We can only assume that there must be different staff in the kitchen on certain days? The coffee shop is a little dated and yes it is a little tired looking but we feel that adds to its quaintness. Just needs to be more consistent with the food and drinks on offer, we would love to be able increase our local amenity to a review score of 4 or 5.

Great food but absolutely dreadful service. Few customers but very slow to take orders and deliver drinks. Very sad as it let's itself down by the service and waiting time.

Probably my worst WS meal ever. 3 sausages almost burnt, they were tasteless and well overcooked which I said to the server who grinned at me. The chips as usual most were hard and inedible, peas hard. Served in a bowl with gravy all over the chips. WS has had a problem with hard chips for months, I have complained to staff and emailed head office to no avail. Thats it I AM NOT eating at a WS any more.

Ignore this place visited Bank Holiday Monday. Bad atmosphere no welcome and then 2 awful cappuccinos. Food average and very poor service even witnessed 2 examples of rudeness to customers.

Two adults and two dogs enjoyed our weekend at the GTI. From arrival, the personalised touches really made for a memorable experience- homemade cakes, gin and tonic in the suite, relaxed but efficient service and delightfully presented accommodation. The pub and restaurant is wonderful, the food is exceptional. The service was wonderfully attentive and relaxed, the prices were good value. We ate in the restaurant and the pub, both menus were superb. We visited beaches, ran around the Downs, shopped in Burnham Market and Thornham Farm shops.
