Coach House at the Ship in Bedford

Oh Dear, another Pub totally unaware of the current disability regulations. There isn't a ramp, there are even any same level flooring, upon enquiring with one of the staff regarding access to the premises, by one in a wheelchair, we were curtly reminded that this was a traditional Public House, who don#t cater for those with mobility issues! Such a shame as my friend had his legs blown off in Afghanistan, and is a hero.

Came for lunch with the family but ended up staying to watch the football, food was good pub food, and arrived promptly. The staff were super helpful, and there was a great atmosphere. Will definitely go again!!

The boss was getting annoyed and people ordering on the app. What is the point in having an app if you can’t order on it. Took about 40mins for the food to come and we were told 20minutes.

Fruit machine will eat your money and the bar staff will claim they have no control over the machine, while reassuring you it happens all the time. Any bar that is party to a scam is a scam so this bar is a scam.

We visited this historic characterful pub on the way back to hotel after dinner. My partner had a pint of Guinness which was very good and I had a red wine. The prices were very reasonable, and there was a good atmosphere.

Wanted on a warm night to get out of the house and watch England Rugby. First time visit, despite walking by numerous Saturdays going to the Blues. Being teetotal not really been a pub person, but after watching Womens World Cup Final at G&D tried The Ship. Will be back through the season, as a nice selection of my fave drinks, Fentimans and Alchol Free Kopperburg Ciders, alternatives to Coke Zero.

This pub is a great place for a get together with family or friends right in Bedford. Parking is plentiful at the back, which is free when you give in your registration number when you arrive. We had many pleasant lunches here, good seating inside or outside in the sunshine either under umbrellas, or in covered cubicles - which could get a bit hot in summertime! Lovely large hanging baskets full of flowers in summer too. Very reasonable and dogs welcome on a leash. Highly recommended.

Arrived and parked no problem. A few weeks later I received a parking charge notice. I appealed the notice and supplied supporting evidence in the form of photos showing no signage at the entrance and a dark car park where you would not have been able to see the small sign that is conveniently located out of the way. The appeal was accepted and the charge cancelled but I was given a warning that it was for this time only and if I breech the terms again they will fine me. Well I won't be breaching the terms again as I won't come back! I don't need any legal expertise to know that a hidden sign in a dark car park will hold no weight in a civil court. None of the staff in the pub mentioned the parking. Disgusting! I challenge The Ship to respond with a remotely acceptable reply. Sort out your car park and stop scamming your customers!

The management should be aware that on numerous occasions, especially after big matches, male customers exit, then immediately urinate up the wall of the cobblers across the road. More vigorous patrolling of the pub frontage would help to prevent this.

Wow, what a difference from the last few weeks. The new holding manager Emma was on for her first shift and was a wonderful ball of energy. Everything looks like we are going to get back to the good times. Pleasant service, welcoming staff, good food and a laughter!

Sadly under new management The Ship has gone downhill and not s great new menu. We have visited a few times to find dirty tables with plates and glasses still there, less bar staff so longer waiting time which is the fault if the manager. We will not be returning and finding a new pub to have our meals at.

Food and standards has gone down hill since Christmas, staff don’t seem to be interested anymore, such a shame as this was a great pub with happy staff and decent food but now it is just isn’t the same. Something needs to change to get this pub back to how it was

We were there for Sunday lunch which was really nice with one major exception - the roast potatoes had been deep fried and had absorbed all the grease. Such a shame as the rest of the meal was fine. Service was very slow but staff were lovely.

My fiance and I enjoyed our food, we came for dinner on a week night.Only issue was the limited menu when ordering on the app as advised, which did not match the large menu given as you walk in. We hadn't booked a table, but we were offered a seat inside provided we gave our details by text. I ordered the meals with Greene King's application which was logical and easy to follow. The service was friendly and excellent and the food was hot and tasty. The menu was standard British fare. I had a burger and my wife had fish and chips. There were a number of tables outside and because it was during the hot spell these were occupied. I thought the staff did a wonderful job given the problems that covid-19 has caused.

We spent 2 days in Bedford and it was really hard finding somewhere to eat as we hadn't made any bookings. We liked the outside of the pub so we decided to see if we could be served. Firstly, we had to send a text message to reserve. We were allocated a table inside which we preferred and the social distancing was observed. I downloaded the Greene King application and ordered 2 meals and drinks. It was very easy to follow. The food was very well cooked and we had a relaxing time. There were tables outside too and as it was a hot day they had already been taken.The staff were very well organised and we felt totally safe.

Great to see the Ship back open. We felt really safe and the covid guidelines are all in place. Nice atmosphere and well looked after by the team in a safe covid way. Well done team Ship.

Went to the ship to celebrate a friends birthday . There were 14 of us & we booked a table for us all to enjoy a meal . The table was set so nicely & we were greeted by Kieran who was out waiter all evening . We had jugs of cocktails which were bought to the table quickly plus Kieran took our orders . It didn’t take long at all the be served with the share platters we ordered which were hot . Then our main meals arrived which had generous portions of piping hot tasty food . Kieran was on hand to carry out any requests for extra food & drink . He worked so very hard all evening providing excellent costumer service . We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening & recommend folk to go for a meal .

I have visited this pub occasionally and last time I went I parked round the back during my visit free of charge. But no, not this time. Turns out parking charges apply at ALL hours!!! Shocking. I just popped into the pub to pick up my husband at about 11pm and didn’t think twice about paying. Plus, it was dark and the stupid sign that tells you you have to pay was in the corner of the car park, not visible to me. 2 weeks later I get an extortionate fine through the post. The sign says you can get reimbursed for the first 2 tariffs if you spend £5 at the bar, which I did. So disappointed and won’t be back to the place in a hurry.

Do not trust the on line booking system. I booked a table for four and received confirmation. When we arrived they no record of this but we did find a table. When we ordered the meal we were advised that this would take a hour. Total mismanagement, we should have been given top priority. This also happened when we visited the pub at the beginning of the year. I have received an e mail thanking us for the visit and hope we had a great experience. !!!!!!! My advise is that get your basics right. We did not stay but found a great pub round the corner which we will use in the future.

I took some friends out for an evening meal at this pub because it always looks nice when I ride past on my bike and always wanted to pop in but hadn’t had the time so I took my friends for a meal and wasn’t disappointed I like it in there it was busy lively ,good atmosphere and the meal was good and not too expensive. The pub it self is very nice and old I like pubs like this so I felt very comfortable in there , there is plenty of outdoor seating if your in Bedford you have to visit ,the only advice I have I did read read on trip advisor about people having problems with parking fines when you go in there is a tablet on the bar if you put your number plate in as soon as you go in you should be fine , but I will be going back .

My husband and I don't often go out for a drink but when we do, we invariably choose The Ship. The beer garden is lovely in the warmer months and inside is cozy when it's colder. There is a good selection of beers and wine, and the staff are always very friendly.

Popped into the ship for an off chance it was quiet... The pub was fairly steady however I was still able to get my food in a good time. They have a park and pay meter but if you take the proof with you they take the money off your bill such a great idea many more pubs should have this great little pub will be here again

Visited the pub for the first time following a visit to the nearby Quarry theatre. Lovely old world charm, staff are very friendly, beer is good and the garden is a lovely place to chill and relax.

Please note this is NOT a free car park!!! Went here for a few drinks, parked the car in their car park from 19.30pm till 21.50pm on the 14th June 2019. It is not clear that you have to pay to park here! Received £100 parking fine today in the post for parking here, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. Shocked and upset about this. This is out of order.This needs to be made clear. Not going to this venue again

Popped into the Ship for a pint and a snack to watch their SKYE coverage of the cricket, bought a beer and ordered some chicken strips, and sat by the window in the front of the pub to enjoy the cricket, as soon as I sat down, house music was played and the cricket muted, the chicken strips were brought to my table with an minuscule cap of Louisiana sauce and some stale leaves of dry salad, the chicken was heavily coated in breadcrumbs and dry and tasteless, won't be going back to this insult of a Pub

One of our favourite pubs in Bedford and have been going there for over 30 years but might not be going there again after being ripped off for parking. Went there to celebrate a friend's special birthday and had a great evening. Great memories until receiving a parking fine for £60 two weeks later for parking in the pub's car park after 10pm! No clear signs on a dark, wet night - no warning notices in the pub. Has left a very bitter taste for us.

We stopped here for a late lunch with our children. The atmosphere was nice, the pub is spacious and there is a good sized car park. The food is standard pub food as you'd expect and was good. The staff are so polite, friendly and attentive. My husband ordered the chilli nachos that came without the chilli - however this was soon put right by the young barman.

My family had my late mother’s wake here. Such a lovely manager and welcoming staff. They looked after us very well. Lovely pub, clean and welcoming, large car park too. One of the best pubs in Bedford. I definitely recommend a visit here, your a few mins walk to the high street and embankment.

The staff insisted we actually ordered the wrong food when they brought the wrong food after a long wait. We are capable of ordering a meal from the options, clearly staff incapable of putting correct order into the machine. One excuse, a new chef that day. Our friend ordered a mixed grill which arrived minus some of the food included and had to ask for it. I also finally was brought a mixed grill minus even more items when had ordered a rib eye steak salad and jacket potato. What was worse was the service from bar staff who were rude, quite nasty and thought it hilarious. When taken back to the bar was told it was a very nice mixed grill - it wasn't. The food was bland with chewy over cooked meat, not sold as advertised on menu.
