We visited for my mother in laws birthday. Family of five. Service was fairly slow (although plenty of staff hanging around) but we had a polite young man serving us. There was also a group of young staff playing around and giggling in the bar area… When the food eventually arrived (2 chicken burgers, two fish and chips and a ham and chips) everything was overcooked/burned. The fish also tasted as if cooked in old oil… We did complain, but nothing was said and we received a full bill… To be fair we have eaten there twice before and the food was fairly good… But for a Friday night the place was sparsely occupied - tonight’s offering is likely the reason why! Never again.

It is essentially a pub but you can't order at the bar. If you just want a drink you are shown to a table and orders are taken there, so you have to ask about the beers. The Maldon Gold is what we had, and it is good. Last time we went was for lunch and the fish & chips was excellent: fresh fish, light crispy batter and enough chips that neither of us could face a pudding. What is not to like?

Didn’t get off to a good start had booked table for 7 people and the table laid for 8 not good as we had a recently bereaved widower in our group. Food at best was mediocre fish was almost cooked to death. My main complaint is that when I booked I specifically asked what time it closed as we were out to celebrate my husband’s birthday and was clearly told 11 o clock but just after 10 was told they wanted to close said we had a taxi booked and she offered to get us one now!! All in all not a good experience and won’t be returning.

Booked in by a friend who lives down here who we came to visit for the day. What a lovely visit. No fussing by the waitresses and no pressure to order, given as much time as necessary and any questions we had were answered immediately. The food was lovely and very generous portions. Their chips were amazing. We decided to all have desserts and weren’t disappointed with those either. Really enjoyable visit and would thoroughly recommend. Thanks to you

Go here regularly to meet with family & alough I have been a bit frustrated with the intimating meet & great ( constant asking if we have booked & when will we be taking our seats ) my reply as always is we are waiting for the rest of the family before we will sit thank you!!! Never goes down to well but nevertheless food is good & table service is good but on this occasion on a sunday evening we phoned & booked a table & was advised that they closed at 10 & the last booking was for 7pm so we booked for 6.30 promptly served with our starters & then the mains along with a bottle of wine I had noticed that we were getting some looks from staff members the time at the point was 7.45 then our bill arrived ar the table I said we haven't asked for the bill they apologised & took it back & asked if we could have 2 glasses of wine & a coffee & was told that wasn't a problem we was then swiftly informed who I now no to be the owner ( well in fact not quite true part owner) the they are closed & shutting at 8 I then told them to cancel the wine & coffee as we won't have time to drink it & I said that we were informed you closed at 10 & he replied I think I know when we shut I own the place but you can stay until 8.30 ( of course we can £10 a glass of wine ) very rood ,very rushed they shoul5 look at the time allocations because if the last sitting is at 7 & they close at 8 how the he'll Cound you eat 3 courses in an hour!!!! & some training on people skills . Won't be back until they change their attitude. I

We have visited this establishment several times over the last few years particularily during covid and have always been resally impressed with the polite and attentive service we have received . We visited again earlier this evening,on arrival we waited at the rear entrance as there was nobody at the guest greeting station. We were eventually spotted by one of the team who directed us to the main bar, where we met by a very rude individual ,who appeared to be somewhat frustrated around a duplicated booking and appeared to be blaming us for and in front of a fully booked restauraunt , apparently for telephoning the establishment prior to our arrival to confirm our booking. The rest of the team were fantastic and compensated for their collegues rudeness, who clearly needs to receive some customer service training , or maybe moved to the kitchen to wash up where he cant alienate returning customers

We have dined at this restaurant many times and have normally enjoyed the whole experience. Food, service, choice of beverages, all excellent. The private rooms are a great idea. We have used them several times with no real issues. This time though, even though I booked many months prior to the visit and paid a deposit, we requested that we booked the room from 1 pm until 5 pm for an anniversary meal with all our children and their partners. I phoned up a day before to inform them that we would like to have an extra place. It was only then we were informed that our booking was from 12:30 until 3:30. at no time were we ever informed until the day before that we were to be thrown out at 3:30. there is no mention of a time limit on the website as far as I can see. I feel that the family event was somewhat tainted by the rush to get us out. I suspect that they could pack more covers in at our expense. Please, if you are going to do that, warn us at time of booking or call us. We arranged all to arrive at our booked time of 1 pm. It was annoying. But, having said that the service was attentive and the food good. Let people know of timed dining.

We booked the private dining area for a family celebration, which was ideal as it was just a little more secluded and away from the main restaurant. It was the same menu and same price, so it was nice not to have to pay a premium for the private room. There were plenty of staff to look after us, which were all very attentive, so 10/10 for service. As for the food, it was excellent, very well presented and very good, so thank you for providing such a lovely meal and the excellent service, would def recommend this restaurant.

I have been to this pub a few times, but unfortunately, each time, either the service lets it down or the food. The last two visits it was the service. Disinterested staff, was kept waiting for the menus, eventually I asked for them. Then, no one came to take the order. After finishing our first round of drinks, no one had come up to us to take our order, so we left (after paying the bill). It is a shame, as it is a lovely venue. Service is hit and miss maybe due to innexperienced staff?

We visited the Old Kings Head on Tuesday lunchtime to celebrate my sisters birthday. There is a good sized car park at the back a couple more disabled parking spots would be helpful because if I returned with my husband we would need one. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very nice and has been newly refurbished. We had the vegetarian mushroom pie which was delicious and made a nice change from the usual vegetarian options of pasta or courgettes offered in other restaurants. There is a very relaxed atmosphere and we did not feel rushed in any way. We both said that we would definitely return here. One small request though you have a good non alcoholic selection of drinks but please can you put non alcoholic cider on your menu.

My wife and I went for lunch today. This is about the fourth or fifth time we have been here. It has not disappointed us yet. Superb food and great, friendly service. Today we had pies, I had steak and ale and my wife had chicken and tarragon sauce. We asked for mash to be swapped for chips because the chips here are lovely. Everything is clearly made on site and the quality is first class. Very tasty and very filling. We have also had rib-eye steak here previously and that was beautiful too. We love the separate dining areas areas and overall cosy feel of the place. Can't recommend it highly enough. We are fans of this place since it reopened and were really pleased to see that a take-away service would be offered during the 4 week lockdown. Our first try today exceeded expectations. Fish and chips and chicken burger and chips went down really well. If you like "fries" you might not be as keen as we were as these were steak fry type which were terrific. We chose calamari as a starter - which was every bit as good as when we have eaten it in the pub. We can't wait for lockdown to be over but in the meantime we will be ordering more to eat in. This is a local Pub (now restaurant) that has been very recently and very nicely refurbished and we were looking forward to trying it.We booked a table for 5 - (3 x Adults 2 x teenagers) - service was attentive but a little amateur and no one appears to be in charge. I chose a medium rare Ribeye which came with Triple Cooked Chips + Mushrooms and Tomatoes on the vine. It was edible but apart from the Tomatoes everything else lacked any flavour, whatsoever. My wife chose the Cesare Salad and her only comment was that she had eaten better.Should we bother to eat there again I would chose - The Whitebait Starter , miss The Mains and finish with The Cheeseboard (excellent pickle) and wash it down with a bottle of Chilean Merlo (they were the only good part of the experience) – It was an expensive meal, well below par.Quiet for a Friday Evening - does that say something ?

We have wanted to come here for sometime, I drive by here each morning going to work and it looked decent. Well we walked here so we both could have a drink and there is no cider on draught for starters which is what I was looking forward to.The mains I had fish and chips, chips were hard, fish was incredibly oily YUK. Plus hardly any chips My husband had ham egg and chips and his review was cold food and again chips were hard. We got the food very fast which is good of course however these particular meals should have taken longer if it was freshly cooked. Regarding covid there are not precautions apart from gel at the foods, the waitresses are not masked up, leaning over us to give us the food. Mayonnaise and ketchup are both in bottles, who knows if they are whipped down. We were then settling down after eating and were told the table we were on was booked and kicked up to a little table in the corner, staff stated that there was a label reserving it for six people and four only turned up, which could have easily sat on the table we were pushed too. Very disappointed will not be coming back!!!

Very disappointing experience. We were advised that one bitter only had one pint left and that there was a problem with the next barrel. The starter that we all wanted was not available. I chose "ham, egg and chips", on the basis that this could not be spoiled. The Old King's Head managed it. The ham was grey/green in the centre of each slice and very dry around the outside. When I enquired about this, I was informed that the discolouration was due to having been left out in the air and would be fine. It looked so unappetising that I decided not to take the risk. We decided not to have a dessert, but overall it was probably the worst meal out that we have experienced and we shall not be returning. The restaurant has been redecorated very well and the toilets were very clean and well appointed.

This pub has recently been totally renovated and wow what a wonderful experience. The decor is classy, the service outstanding and the menu extremely tasty and varied. Portions are ample and good value for money. We have already been back for a second time and definitely will be back again and again!

Four of us went to the newly refurbished Old Kings Head in Stock this evening for a meal. It was lovely. The food was superb, we really couldn't fault it. The service was good, and the atmosphere in there was very welcoming. The refurb has been done so well. The character of the old building has been kept but given a modern twist and it works perfectly. We'll be back!

Ate here for last night of 'eat out to help out'. Recently renovated and all areas clean and well decorated. Comfortable table spacing and good one way system through venue with clear signage.Small menu choice (approx. 5 mains and 5 pub classics) but all good looking dishes. Food itself is superb and really tasty. Chorizo Scotch Egg starter a real winner and classic burger main very nicely seasoned.Nice ales on tap and good selection of wine and great service from a young, enthusiastic and pleasant team.Would happily eat here again and recommend to others.

This is the second time I visited the Old Kings Head in the past few weeks. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and efficient, also decor of this venue has been tastefully decorated with clean surroundings. The food is of a high standard, well presented and the flavours extremely good. I will definitely return again soon.

My parents wanted to show us the renovated Old Kings Head during a visit and we were curious after only knowing it as a pub years ago. Service was great, covid precautions as expected. Parking more than adequate. Decor lovely and fresh, the toilets almost regal! Sadly a hollow room gave terrible echo and so it was a bit noisy, and also during our visit the room was chilly. Maybe this is due to covid precations though, spacing out tables, and keeping air circulation with the door open.Food was overall very nice apart from the expensive Rib Eye steak. It turned up looking....grey...and unappealing rather than what you expect from a restaurant. I was paranoid it was past its best so left most, but on reflection I think the chef just did a bad job and cooked it in too low heat, and with no seasoning. Also it was not medium rare like i asked. Bland and grey lump of expensive meat. The waitress tried to help and I got a free dessert so handled fine, but i hope the chef did a one off. Gordon Ramsey would have gone marching into the kitchen Many positives balanced many negatives, but perfectly salvageable!

Ate here Saturday evening with my husband. Thoroughly enjoyed our main courses (steak & ale pie/fish & chips) and our desserts (sticky toffee pudding/cheesecake) were amazing. Lovely friendly staff & service was excellent. Will definitely visit again!

Just returned from newly refurbed Old Kings Head for dinner. The food and service were good. The pub looks lovely with the refurb. However, you struggled twice to get our bill correct, using the 'Eat Out To Help Out Scheme' and in the end we gave up trying to explain to the waitress that it was still wrong, so unfortunately we left paying more than we should have done due to the miscalculation and not deducting the correct amount off for our drinks. We spent under £40 for 2 people (including 2x soft drinks and 2x hot drinks). A disappointing end to a nice evening.

Food was very good, we had a variety of dishes across our table for 5, they all looked and tasted great. Something for the simplest / fussy and the most adventurous. Service was good, very friendly and accommodating, a lot of young people, but clearly had experience and good training. We helped out by eating out which made the bill less painful. Would not hesitate to go back.....and good to see the old place in good hands.

Visited for our first meal out post lockdown and birth of our baby, good experience, friendly attentive staff and very good food. Went on a Wednesday so had the #eatouttohelpout discount and lunch came to less than £20 inc a shandy and a soft drink. The only thing that made me give 4* was the small room (4 tables) was very warm and it took us a while to acclimatise with no air con or open window.

This was our first visit to the OKH since the refurbishment. On the face of it to works are super, but on a hot night I had to wonder why air conditioning had not been fitted throughout! We visited under the Eat to Help to Help Out scheme and although we expected a limited menu we did expect something more imaginative. After discounting fish and chips and steak and kidney pie, we went for Fish Cakes and the Chilli Beef. Both dishes well presented and enjoyable but not outstanding. The deserts also lacked imagination we had one cheesecake and a sticky toffee pudding. The service would good and attentive. We will certainly go back as it’s great to have the OKH open and again and we are sure the menus will improve over time.

Visited this beautiful old pub and restaurant for my first lunch out with friends since lock down. Wow, such a welcoming place to meet. Completely refurbished to a very high standard and all safety measures in place with excellently trained staff to make you feel comfortable. The food was amazing and we left happy and satisfied. Will definitely be going back. 5 stars.

Been here twice since new owners took over - warm welcomes both times and nice pub food. Not the cheapest but the food is good and the service is friendly. Nice refit inside too. Our new local!

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime to take part in the Eat Out to Help Out campaign.Arrived early (12:00), without booking and sat in the sun at the front, not least because the tables in the rear garden were all booked. A little close to the busy road, but perfectly acceptable.I had the classic burger from the pub classic selection and my wife the quiche from the lighter lunch selection. Well cooked and well presented, We shared a trio of scoops of qood quality ice-cream.Higher prices than an average pub, but also better quality.Excellent and attentive staff throughout the visit from seating to service to payment. With regards to Covid-19, I agree with other comments. Hand sanitiser provided at the entrance, but the cutlery was handled directly by staff. Menus were reusable, but I don't know if they were wiped between customers. Staff had no protective equipment which I didn't personally object to as we were outside.

We visited this evening and as others have said we were a little perplexed by the lack of Covid Procedures we had come to expect after visiting other venues. We were greeted by a group of staff all standing closely together with no visible PPE. There was sanitiser at the front and back doors, however the menus were reusable and our cutlery was given to us by hand not wrapped in the napkin. The staff weren’t wearing visors which we have come to find very reassuring when they lean over you to serve your food and drinks. Sauces were served in full size sharing bottles too. The food was delicious and the staff were polite but I felt a little uneasy.

We visited the newly reopened 'Old Kings Head' last weekend for a spot of breakfast. On first impression, the renovation of the old building has been done tastefully and all signs were pointing towards what I expected to be a good experience. Unfortunately, the points that this old boozer scored on its aesthetics were swiftly retracted on first sight of their full English breakfast. The breakfast came with 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon (although my rasher seems to have lost half its body on the journey from the kitchen), black pudding, 1 mushroom, 1 egg and 2 slices of toast. Everybody knows that offering 1 of each item amounts to nothing short of gross negligence in the work place. Unfortunately the initial reservation I had on sight of the food wasn't to be the end of what went on to be a fine run of steady disappointment. It quickly dawned on me that they had decided to not serve baked beans with their full English breakfast offering. Obviously, at this point and in my mind, it was over. Who does that? Why would you do that? The beans are the glue that makes the random slop of a full English melt together into something wonderful. They abandoned that notion without thought and for that they should be ashamed. I could go on... the sausages tasted strange.... but what's the point in continuing to moan when the lack of baked beans has already made up your mind. It's early days at the NEW 'Old King's Head' so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and hopefully there will be steady improvement, but it will be a while until i'm back.

Waited a few weeks after restaurants allowed to open & decided to visit the refurbished pub. We booked an outside table in advance , it was a lovely day so glad we did. Walked through the pub to the garden & refurbishment is lovely. Food was lovely in particular the Scotch Egg that my husband had for starters & the Asian Sticky Pork that I had for mains. Service was very good, possibly now they've been open a few weeks all the teething problems have been sorted. Will definitely go back.

It was good to see this pub open again after a long shutdown. We walked in to a friendly welcome for Sunday lunch with hand sanitisers at the entrance. The staff looked very young and inexperienced so l hope they are well trained. It was worrying that no masks, gloves or visors were worn by the staff. Our temperatures were not taken either as we entered which l would have expected. Our cutlery was brought up separately by the staff but touched by them unwrapped. The menus were in book form and not disposable paper. The condiments were brought up but no small dishes for the sauces which we took by spoon from a jar. The food was fine, not a huge choice, nice pub food but a little pricey as were the wines by the glass. We sat upstairs at a good distance from other diners but little atmosphere. It was a little off putting that l ate my meal opposite a woman breast feeding here young children directly in my signt line. l am not a prude but l have never seen that before in a restaurant. Weird.

Our local area has been dying out for the Old Kings Head to get a new lease of life and finally, it has it! Perfect for dining. A lovely menu of freshly cooked food and an excellent selection of wine (and cask beer!). Really friendly service, nicely paced and attentive without being over bearing. Excellent food and very reasonably priced. Proper classic pub dining but with some excellent twists such as the merlot scotch egg. Throughly enjoyed by us all and we certainly will be recommending this to all our friends!

Good food for the price. Around 10 pound for a meal including a drink is good value for your money. Food is very good, but it is a pub so also a lot of drink options. If you look for a more fancy meal this is not the place for you.
