Nice spot for a quiet after work beer

I have been regular in this pub for ten years, when are we going to get a manager who can keep ales well stocked and not running out also no stellar the company needs to sort it and no food on Easter Sunday its a joke, get a crip.

Everything! So much on the menu was unavailable. Food when it arrived was barely warm. We had to keep asking for items we had ordered. Most beers were unavailable. Not enough staff as they appeared stressed and under pressure

We came for mothers day lunch and arrived at 1pm. We didn't know it was order at the bar as no one told us and so we ordered food about 1:30/1:40 - we were not told to expect a delay as the kitchen staff were short (we found this out much later) it wasn't until 3pm that half of our food started to come out (1hr and a half wait) and it was nearly 3:30 when the rest came out which is ridiculous! The staff only apologised when promoted that the food was so late! We were given a discount off the food as an apology but was very disappointed with the service, if we know we'd have been waiting so long for food we probably wouldn't have stayed.... not impressed at all

Waited an age for a drink with two members of staff sitting at end of bar drinking coffee. Got a beer and was bad tasting. Tables messy and no attempt to clear glasses. Carpet sticky. I did like the dog station bit but that's about it. Bit grim really as it was a nice pub years ago.

Sunday lunch with family. I chose from the 3 course menu for £15.99 which had a decent selection of each course. The beef rib roast was excellent, and everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. Service was spot on, friendly, and efficient.

I really don't want to be this person but our experience was sub par. The app had a fair amount of food out of stock. Wasn't particularly busy and food came in 35 minutes, fine and to be expected for a Friday night. The food however, not great! Ordered the BBQ half chicken and fries. The chicken itself wasn't BBQ chicken, it was plain chicken with a pot of BBQ sauce on the side but the main issue was the portion size. 2 tiny chicken legs definitely do not equal half a chicken. The whole meal didn't really even constitute a starter. The portion size for the peas (a spoonful) and chips were similarly tiny. We ended up leaving and going KFC on the way home. Sadly won't return which is a shame because it's fairly local to us.

Three of our first food choices were not available, even though they were just simple baguettes. We were told it's because they were 'running down the menu' due to there being a new one out soon. This should not be a reason for not being able to provide items on the menu. When it arrived, the food was nowhere near what was pictured on the menu and was very basic. Not value for what was paid. This was not the first time we have been disappointed with the food quality and service here. We thought we'd give it one more try but wish we hadn't.

Went in for the first time to have a couple of drinks and ended up having food. Lovely friendly bar staff, nothing was too much trouble and they made us feel really welcome. Even the manager introduced himself, Hanif I believe, he said. Really had a nice feeling to it. Food was reasonably priced, tasty and hot. Will definitely be going back.

Absolutely shocking, they need to close the restaurant now! Had a terrible Christmas meal and went back to give them another opportunity as promised. Took guests with us, so 4 in total. The starters arrived after 30 mins and stone cold garlic bread, mushrooms were fine. Ordered a few rounds of drinks while waiting for mains. After another hour our mains still hadn't arrived. There was only a few other tables eating, 2 of which complained about the wait and poor quality cold food. They left their meals uneaten and walked out the restaurant. We asked a few times and told ten minutes each time. Felt so sorry for the young boy they sent to us to apologise each time. So after 90 mins we told them not to bother, it was obvious they still hadn't got our food cooked. Give this restaurant a miss, they need to find a chef before someone ends up being unwell with poorly cooked and prepared food. We were told by the staff, there was no chef and the bar staff were doing the cooking. Let's hope they have the certificates needed to be in a kitchen preparing and cooking food.

The staff are very polite and very helpful! This pub seems to have really turned around since there has been new management! Good food and good quality service!

The new management seem so nice can see them doing really well here, think they’re names were mick and ham or something, had a really nice meal, been going here for a while and it was the best meal I’ve had yet, will definitely be coming for food more

What is going on! I meet a friend here for lunch every few weeks and it's usually fine. Today however was very different. Had to wait ages for our food. It was ok but not the usual standard. Went to the bar to order a coffee and a tea. Was told sorry no coffee! Said I would have 2 teas then and was told sorry no clean teapots!! I was lost for words. Barmaid then said she could just make it in a mug. 2 hot mugs of water put on counter with a jug of milk and some sugar. No tray. I asked for a couple of teaspoons and was offered a teaspoon and a large spoon. She said that was all she had. No other clean spoons. I walked back to our table completely bewildered. Don't think we'll be rushing back if standards have fallen so low. Such a shame as its a lovely pub.

On new year's Eve I had my family of 8, we ordered food and 3 plates arrived first but had to wait 30 mins for the rest. (1 order was wrong and had to be taken back). The food was cold and and the gammon order was tough. We talked to staff members who didn't seemed concerned (maybe due to short staff).

My family and I went for a lunch at this place and regret it.We pre booked and when we first arrived were asked if we mind there being a delay on the food as there was a large group in.We said that was ok. Two of the items were out of stock on the menu and the dish that my Wife settled for was terrible.She plumped for the fishcakes,peas and asked for glazed potatoes instead of chips When it arrived after 45minutes,there were no peas,the potatoes were not glazed and the fish cakes looked like they were found in the bargain bin in Aldi. We ordered sweet for the children a brownie and a munchies sunday.Again after waiting a while the food arrived but because of the delay in the kitchen my sons sunday had melted into a soup.,I expected a delay but when it impacts the quality of the product....I am not expecting haute cuisine when visiting a pub,but this was well below the standards of the area. I was going to complain but my wife felt that it would mar her birthday lunch.I also know that by writing this i will get a small apology from the establishment,but nothing will change.If you want good food go else where.

We reserved a table and confirmed the table on numerous visits . When we arrived the table was occupied and we were told sorry the previous manager had left . Even though I had an email confirming the booking. The table we were given need coasters as it was uneven . . The Christmas dinner was if poor quality . I small slices of turkey breast and a few mixed veg and the Christmas pudding was more like Christmas cake . And to top it off there was no table service and we had to order drinks from the bar which only had 2 bar tenders working so had to wait to be served . No Guineas and no clean gin glasses

The festive menu was not available to us because we did not know that we had to book this menu. We should have walked out then. We waited 30 minutes for two starters and then another hour for the mains. The two steak meals were inedible and were left when we walked out. My wife enjoyed the burger. The inn was not full so I am unable to explain why there was such a delay. No mulled wine for the second year.

We came to the White Horse yesterday and was served by a pretty girl called Jessie. She was so sweet and really friendly. She was attentive to our needs and we had a decent meal. We will definitely return and look forward to being served by her again. Thanks again

Wait for food was far too long. Waited over 1 hour for 2x cappuccinos. No highchairs available for a breakfast with Santa. Children should be expected and planned for. It all just seemed very unorganised seeing as it was a planned breakfast with Santa event.

My partner ordered a guiness and after taking a sip we saw the glass was filthy so he went up to the bar to complain and the bar staff just poured the guiness into a different glass. No apology not even a fresh pint.

We went to the White House today. The service was very poor. After over an hour we just about got our main. Roast beef. Beef was nice but vegetables were bearly cooked. We had already complained that we didn’t have our food so after two and a half hours we still didn’t have a dessert we left. I did try to complain but the front of house bar staff were only interested in serving new customers drinks. Our waiter was a young man who would bring food to others and then walk back to the kitchen empty handed when we had plates waiting to be taken. Not his fault, he shouldn’t have been left alone to serve all the tables. Very poor. Great location but we will not be back any time soon.

Sunday lunch. Lovely inside but rather empty. Took 10 minutes to order a drink. After 2 hours only the main course had been served and plates not cleared. Walked out and couldn't wait any longer for desert, despite informing staff twice. Vegetables -including peas- were uncooked. Now I know why the place was not full of customers. Shall not return as I haven't that time to waste! Shame!

To start there was confusion about when the Christmas menu started but we didn’t worry too much. The young girl with the broken thumb was outstanding, happy and informative a credit to the company.

A tip for you - if you call in here, DO NOT sign on to their free wifi. You will be plagued with requests for a survey from Ember Inns. They are endless and unceasing.

Had a 3pm booking for today for 3. Turned up at 2.45 to be told, no roast and we would have to wait 45 minutes. Not the 1st time. Very disappointed. Pub wasn't even very busy.

The whole experience was great,the only thing that could be improved on was the lack if staff as the members of staff that were working were absolutely run off their feet

Lovley pub set in great baddow,foods was excellent, very good choice.a large number of Ake's and beers on offer to .only thing here as most places now is prices ,pushing 12' pounds for two pints of lager.its becoming prohibitive ,shame

Lovely food but felt sorry for the lady working the Bar as was clearly short staffed. Only negative is the mirror in the ladies toilet is too high up unless you're 6ft tall you'll never be able to look in it.

My youngest visited last night for food and drink and has only just turned 18 and wasn't asked for any ID or challenged on their age. When the food was served, Gracie, the waitress, didn't make any eye contact and was abrupt. She didn't even acknowledge when thanked for the food. The job seemed to be too much of an effort for her. Won't be rushing in as a family, especially considering the cold, unwelcoming service.

Got there 5p.m. Sunday afternoon, not that busy . Order drinks and food at the bar once we had our table number, 20 minutes later starters turn up hot and very tasty, then once starter finished up came beef roast dinner, plenty of it, very good, all washed down with a delicious bottle of wolf Blass shiraz very nice .👍

Don’t bother First attempt at my food coming out was a laugh Steak should have been medium but was well done and my upgrade sweet potato fries were burnt Second attempt was the complete opposite Steak was rare/blue and the chips were nicer but everything else was kept warm and by the time I had the food in front of me I was not hungry as everyone else had finished Well happy birthday to me not Won’t be going again

This pub is slowly improving one step at a time each time I go. Food quality is now improved from last time I went (it was appalling back in Jan 2022) and so has management. Staff were really friendly upon bringing the food which made our experience better. Food is cheap as well during special times, which you can’t complain about. Only thing I have left to complain about is long food wait times which has improved and also the tables are always sticky after cleaning. Someone has already mentioned this but please use a different cleaning sanitiser. 😕 Overall, improved and I would recommend it to people for a catch-up type meeting. Pub itself indoors is nice, old wooden beams with good ambience.

First and last time visiting. Long wait for food when we eventually got our food it was the wrong food that we had ordered, so had to wait even longer for the correct food to be cooked again. Not enough staff only one member of staff working in the restaurant.

We were delighted with our visit to the White Horse yesterday, the first time we had been back to our local for a long time. This venue has had its share of problems over the years and the level of support from Mitchell and Butlers has been woefully inadequate at times when the pub was crying out for investment. It was therefore encouraging to arrive and be warmly welcomed by a strong team of four behind the bar plus a dedicated food runner too. However busy the pub got, (and get it did) there was never a long wait for service and the Purity guest ale was of exceptional quality. Our starters were excellent, (the soup very tasty and served piping hot) and we followed up with steaks accompanied by a generous serving of peppercorn sauce. It did not just seem to be us who were enjoying the evening and there was a convivial atmosphere and contented buzz about the place that was really pleasing to note. Running pubs in the current economic climate has become exceptionally challenging but it seems everyone on the team is going the extra mile to get things right and with Chelsea leading capably from the front the White Horse has become a local to cherish again. Great progress has been made from some of the dismal experiences in the past and hopefully this will continue long into the future. The pub has a large catchment area and plenty of punters locally who are willing it to do well. Please keep up all of the good work. We are now looking forward to returning again on a more regular basis.

Staff were wonderful, especially chloe, made us feel accomidated with allergies, was also super kind.

Chloe was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about allergens and made me feel safe enough to relax. The food was amazing. I'll be back.

What a great visit. The food is lovely , the location is excellent. The manager is professional. We defo back.

If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Saturday 2nd September. We walked in without a booking which we appreciate was a big ask on a Saturday evening, especially since there was 11 of us. We were seated quickly which was nice, and we began discussing what to order. We eventually made our order at 19:00. Another 2 or 3 large family’s turned up and ordered their food after us. Some starters came out, and we waited another 40 minutes before approaching the bar staff of the status of our order. We were told 5 or 10 minutes as there had been a big rush all of a sudden… surely our food should have been started before this ‘sudden rush’ came in? The 3 other tables which were rather large, a total of 10-12 people all got their food before us. It was clear that we were forgotten about. About 20-25 minutes later our food started turning up. Most of it was cold. Not even barely warm, just cold. Clearly was not fresh. The majority of the staff are kids, one of the guys had his trousers almost down to his ankles, you could see his underwear. Disgusting. One of the female staff had a broken wrist and was serving food and drinks, surely this is not allowed when dealing with food and drink. We are not coming back. We spent almost £150.00 on 2 different orders and waited an hour and a half for food which was an absolute joke. To top it off, the fire alarm went off because one of the staff had left some sort of paper in front of a heat lamp apparently and it caught fire. Brilliant. I will be steering clear of here for a long time and don’t plan on coming here again. Shocking.

Just one thing to point out. Food ok ambience fine, service fine. BUT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHANGE YOUR TABLE CLEANER. EVERY TIME WE COME , IM STUCK TO THE TABLE. ITS HORRENDOUS. NOBODY ELSE USES THIS ONE. CHANGE IT. THANK YOU

Great pub with great prices to match

My friend and I often come here for 'Coffee and Smarties!' Such a great idea to have a little something indulgent provided with the coffee! We love it! The White Horse is a great place to meet, because there are tables and chairs outside if it is sunny, or inside is very comfortable in the dining area away from the bar. The staff are very friendly too.

Enjoyed the pub, great atmosphere, great food and now I find out they have a quiz on a Thursday too, I shall be returning for that at some point in the future

What can I say! Tony is an absolute legend! He has revived the White Horse back to where it should be, a true village and community pub.

I came in last Thursday and was served by the lovely Chelsea, she was very attentive and made sure everything for me was perfect, always checked up to make sure everything was ok and I couldn’t fault anything, food was amazing, staff were so friendly and was just a lovely place to be. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Nice Local Pub food is ok nothing to fancy not a bad selection of Wine Beers and Lagers.
