Every time I come to Chelmsford I come to the plough. Feels like home away from home Im always immediately welcomed by the staff. The service was 10/10 especially the young lady with red hair. The cocktails were excellent

The staff at the plough are extremely friendly and helpful. Play all the sport during the week. Always a good atmosphere. Food is great and do good pizzas and Tapas options. Would highly recommend.

Service form Lily and Izzy is what keeps me coming back. They keep that place lively and they’re so friendly!!

Absolutely love this place the staff are all so welcoming!! Especially two lovely girls lily and Izzy. They gave us brilliant service all night and were so accommodating. Will definitely be going back!!

At best this pub is terrible at worst it’s intolerable. Been a couple of times recently, once on a Saturday night, it was awful. Then I went earlier on a Saturday for food. Once we ordered we waited for a long time, went up to ask where the food was, got told ‘five minutes’. Went back twenty minutes later to be told that a member of staff had given our food to someone else. That experience sums up this hideous chain pub, clearly staffed and run by people who don’t really like pubs. Given there are several better pubs within minute’s walk of this place, I’ll be avoiding in the future.

Great pub Great atmosphere with good service quality and excellent food

Not sure how a regular gets discounted rates, do I ask? Should I get a regular discount card or should I drink elsewhere. Love this place and needs clarification.

Popping into The Plough in Chelmsford was rather a pleasant experience, I must say. There’s a really lovely atmosphere about the place – comfortable, relaxed, and generally quite welcoming without being overly boisterous. It feels like a proper pub where you can actually have a decent chat. And crucially, they certainly know how to pour a cracking pint of the black stuff; the Guinness is absolutely spot on, consistently excellent. If you're looking for a reliable spot with a good feel and a quality drink in Chelmsford, The Plough is well worth considering.

for some reason when i ordered a pimms, they cost different 3 different times. the bar staff was very rude and made me feel like i wasn’t welcome. felt very unsettled and probably won’t come back due to the experience i had today.

I recently came to the Plough to have some food and watch the England v Scotland rugby game. We had great service, food was delivered promptly and was such good value for money. Bar staff were friendly and were able to offer recommendations. Icing on the cake was England got a cheeky win too! We will definitely be back.

It's an ok pub. You can watch sports in here and it has a very standard list of beers. It's just full to the brim of gammon. Particularly at weekends. So if you read the daily mail and think lizards are in charge of the country, this may well be the pub for you. There's much better places to drink over the road, though.

Love the plough, love the staff, the toilets are impeccably clean, really accommodating and hands down one of the friendliest pubs I’ve been in xx

The Plough is a fanstatic pub and super close to the Chelmsford railway station. On my Friday afternoon visit The Plough was ready busy, with drinkers and dinners. Service was quick and very friendly, the small platers were very good indeed. Highly recommended.

Good selection of drinks. Polite and helpful service. Handy if you are waiting for a train or bus

Unfortunately the food was not good. Chicken stack had crispy bun and tough battered chicken. Chips not hot. Service was so slow waiting nearly an hour for desert. Other members of party found their turkey dinners inedible. No attempt by staff to query why plates returned nearly full.

The quality of the food was incredible and the presentation beautiful. Would highly recommend

Had mixed grill, no steak knife offered. Apart from that all OK. Had burger with coleslaw (not sure about that).

Had a lovely dinner at the Plough, the staff were great dealing with a table of 8 of us and had no issues taking large food orders. Everything came out perfectly and quickly. Jodie was really helpful and ensured we had everything we needed. Would recommend !

Either you want to watch football in the weekend or to enjoy your evening after work during the week, this place is amazing. Central situated, with a garden on the back, behind the noise of the city, The Plough has a good vibe, excellent staff and service. Big variety of drinks and food, served by friendly and positive people. Crina is one of the girls who’d come around the tables and makes sure you’re served in time with a firendly attitude. For us she was very prompt and we were feeling excellent at The Original Plough.

We went here yesterday and wow the restaurant has changed so much and for the better! So much selection of both meat and vegetarian food and the price was fantastic! Great food deals for lunchtimes as well. We will definitely be coming back here!

This pub is spotless. Lunchtime food offers are great, handy for the station and great Internet outside area when its sunny

Service was amazing to help me when I was convinced I had been overcharged, coming back a few weeks later to accuse them. They went through receipts and transactions before I found out it was a mistake on my part. Really impressed with the service and helpfulness

Met friends on Monday lunchtime, good location for those travelling by bus or train. Plenty of room to talk. Pub was clean and tidy with welcoming staff. Not busy and no-one watching the TVs. Had a light fish finger sandwich lunch and drank lager as it was a hot day.

Great as always.. slight issue with bar maid with hangover who did thinking in behalf of whole pub and took Robbie's bowl away...Hannah knows best..she loves Robbie football

Sat in there outside area enjoying the sunshine with a lovely bottle of Pinot. Had a incredible steak sandwich with was great value for money. Close to the station so seems rude not to have a pit stop on the way home.

Worst fish n’ chips I’ve ever had. It was 70% raw dough and the fish was borderline cooked. Chips were dry but the mushy peas and tartar were decent. Served seemed uninterested when I asked him to tell the chef. The pub has a good vibe and bar staff were nice but I won’t be back.

Mixed grill followed by some real ale. I preferred the order from the table option, the beers arrived in a few minutes

Have been coming here for a few years now and always impressed with the service and food. Ged and Sophie behind the bar are always a laugh, a great couple giving the best service with a smile on. Always a good time here, would highly recommend!

Experience was fantastic. Love the energy of a good popular pub and this was enhanced by the staff particularly Ged who deserves a special mention. He was attentive, funny and very approachable. Nothing was too much of anise to not provide a top level of service. Thanks Ged

Absolutely amazing welcome the minute I walked in. Staff couldn’t do enough for me, first class service from a lovely girl called Lily. We stopped for food and a drink, we weren’t in there two minutes and Lily had already taken our order. She was so welcoming and attentive. I would 100% recommend coming here again, like I said all staff were amazing but Lily especially went above and beyond to meet our needs.

Me and my best friend go here all the time because we love the vibe but what sets this place apart is the staff who are always lovely. On the weekend we went again and a male customer was harassing us one of the managers immediately moved us to the furthest we could be from him then kicked him out. She checked on us later and updated us. As two young girls who have sat there while staff in other places have ignored behaviour like this it’s truly refreshing and a safe place, especially as usually at the plough the customers are usually lovely. Words can’t describe how thankful we were to this member of staff. And will obviously be keep coming back.

I can’t thank you enough for helping to make my mums birthday brilliant. The booking process was stress free and the team reserved a table inside and outside because of the weather. The food was served quickly and the staff were so good to us all. Honestly this was one of my best experiences with a venue.

Popped in for a drink before a meal. Three members of staff behind the bar who all looked stoned. Young lad served us, smashed the cocktail he was making, made another, transferring tiny shards of glass onto the new one. One staff member was so off his t*ts that he never even charged us for his round, however, we made them aware and paid. Won't be returning, such a shame as this used to be such a lovely pub 😔

Enjoyed Chelsea winning whilst I ate my dinner. Watched the rugby after whilst having a drink with my friend.

Used to visit the plough at least once a week. My husband & I took some friends with us last Saturday, they had never been there before. After waiting 10 - 15 mins we were finally served. However, we asked for Cruzcampo and was told by the gobby red head to go to the Ship Inn, as the plough doesn't stock it. Not very customer friendly in our opinion. Went in again tonight, 10th April, was waiting ages to be served, other people were waiting, the people serving didn't acknowledge anyone waiting & proceeded to serve the new customers as soon as they walked in. So, on the advice of the gobby redhead last Saturday, we walked out without being served & went to the Ship Inn

Went here before. Couple of times One time people were nearly drunk and fighting very embarassing. Anti social behaviour. And they didnt want anything to do with my ID. Food was too much. To eat.

Im part of the furniture here, I love it so much! The staff are so lovely, the food is amazing quality and affordable, fab location for pre drinks (by the station) and theres always speedy service. Couldn’t recommend it more

Fantastic place, all staff are brilliant. Food is amazing. Highly highly recommend whether its for a quick drink after work or a family meal. Dogs being allowed is also a massive bonus

Great place but there is a problem with the food. The menu shows a Chargrilled burger with no mention on what the burger patty is, then they have a bacon cheese burger which says prime beef patty but both are exactly the same patty both totally dry and you need to order another drink to swallow. Sorry but will not eat in this place again. Edited: Was assured by the management that my concern about the false advertising about the burger will be looked at by upper company management so updating my rating to 5 stars but till the burger changes food level will be 1 star.

Come here the other day and was served by Sophie! She was so lovely and friendly really gave my visit a special twist. The food was very nice , can’t wait to come back.

Staff are very friendly, food came up very well presented and given we had a large table in timely manner. Lunch menu is varied and lunch deal is very reasonable

Over Christmas, a family party of 12 had a late lunch from the Festive Menu at the Plough. The food was excellent, everyone very much enjoyed their food choices. Much better than expectations and the price was more than fair. The bar staff and wait staff were friendly and efficient. It's never easy serving a large party and they did it really well. Especially as a couple of our party arrived extremely late due to delayed flights. We were even given a room away from the main bar area that was perfect for a family gathering. Overall, we were very happy with The Plough.

Just a perfekt lunch with an awesome fish n chips

Large pub next to the train and railway station offering fantastic value breakfasts and inexpensive lunch time offers as well as a regular pub menu. I've had the breakfast a few times - great value with decently cooked Irish breakast. Portions are as listed - the hearty breakfast is tough to finish. I have yet to try the lunch offer but it looks to be amazing value. Staff are pleasant and wait for freshly cooked breakfast was reasonable. For those in the know, better to wait here for your train rather than the expensive cafe in the station.
