I've wanted to go to this pub for ages. The reason being it was Keith flints pub. I was absolutely made up that I've photos of me outside which I'll frame. I do live far away so this has made my year being a big fan. I went inside and it was not what I expected. To be honest it has some nice charm to it. A real nice country pub. Prices are reasonable and the bar staff very friendly. I would recommend and would love to go back again.

Popped in here for lunch based on the reviews of the food and pictures of the food and menu. Unfortunately they don’t do food any more apparently, but one confusing was the mountains of cutlery in front of the bar person. Rating because there was no explanation or suggestion of alternative, just repeated “we don’t do food, sorry” twice

Outstanding pint of Guinness! Called in for a quick drink at this lovely pub in a beautiful village. A great selection of beer, lager cider and spirits to suit everyone’s taste and the prices were more than reasonable. The Guinness……could this be the best pint of Guinness in Essex? A great pint of Guinness, served in a new style clean glass using a two part pour method; a very creamy pint indeed. The only tap available was extra cold but it was needed on this warm late summer afternoon.

Really good to see the Leather Bottle open again after a period of closure and a half hearted attempt by another at running it as a pub! The new landlady’s, Kate and daughter Katelyn are making a real effort to run the village pub as it should be. Good beer selection and a lovely garden. Well worth a visit.

On Saturday 11th June (2022) we went to Plesey, and ended up in The Leather Bottle public house. Two guys outside started speaking to us and we ended up talking about Colchester where we had something in common. We went inside this small dark bar and was included in the banter. Needless to say we were the last to leave, but asked to go back, which we will. It was a very enjoyable evening (especially as we didn't get there until 9pm. You can blame the driver (Mark) for that. He had been driving around (in circles) We met a lovely group of people and made very welcome. We certainly look forward to seeing them again, and continue where we left off. Visited this lovely village pub for a few hours to enjoy what must be the best fish and chips you can find. The pub was busy and lively with the staff in front of house and behind all working very hard on a Friday night to look after people. Apart from the consistently excellent fish and chips, the real ale that accompanied it (19 Elms), was perfect. A superb pint! So good to see a small village pub work so hard to look after it’s guests. Well done Rob and crew.

This evening I had fish and chips at the leather bottle, and it was the best I’ve had in ages. The fish was fresh, and fried in lovely crisp batter. Chips were perfect, and my side salad was one of the nicest I’ve had in a while. Again all fresh ingredients, and wonderfully crisp, and tasty. Not a microwave in sight! This really was proper home cooking. The service was also excellent. Highly recommended.

Great day.Good Music.Great bar staff. BbQ limited to burger only. Bit of a come down from last year's roast pork suckling pig. Great band in garden. Tea or coffee should have been available with some chunky bread and butter and cheese. All as a set piece for same price as burger. Takings would have been 25% up and maybe more because some would have stayed longer but they got hungry. Advice more than a complaint. Governed is a good dancer !! John and Mags

Nothing pretentious, but a grand, old fashioned pub that does good basic food. Rob is a grand landlord - approachable and friendly, but stands no nonsense, which is what you need to enjoy a good pint with friends. There is a smashing garden with a small play area for the kids. They were not busy but still took 18 minutes to serve a tuna sandwich with a small salad and a handful of chips. The bread was very ordinary shop bought but the chips were crisp and hot. The service although slow, was polite and friendly, but my main gripe was the cost. £7.50 for what I received was a bit on the steep side, in my opinion.

On Friday of last week I took my wife out for a fish and chips supper at the Leather Bottle in Pleshey, Essex. My wife has to have gluten free food as she is a coeliac or she ends up in lots of pain. The food was excellent and plentiful and served up well. They make sure that there is no cross contamination so my wife has no worries about eating there. A very pleasant surprise from a small local pub that serves excellent food. You can book a meal but having seen what was coming out of the kitchen the other day my wife and I ordered some food. Excellent does not cut it and the chips where the best that I have ever tasted. I went back to talk to the landlord about our experience and learnt the secret about the difference in the taste of his food. Fantastic response and will be eating there on a more regular basis in the future. Thank you so much for a delightful experience./

Went here for a lunch on the weekend. Went for a drive around the countryside and we stumbled upon this place. We were very confused as to why it was empty as it seemed pleasant from the outside. On the inside it looks really run down. We enquired about something to eat to be told that the person who runs the kitchen had popped out and didn't have an idea on when they would be back. Brought a drink, drank it in the over grown garden then took off.
