Such a shame its last day after more than a decade is 30 August. Staff charming and we wished them well for their futures. Food was excellent value. Hopefully the College will see fit to continue to provide similar going forwards. Adieu

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime as part of my wife’s birthday. Food and service was great even though they get very busy. This place is popular for a reason so phone ahead to avoid disappointment. Parking can be a problem but Blackmore is a pretty village so parking a short walk away is a pleasure.

I was with 6 Cycling UK cyclists, the South Essex group. There were no tables for 6 but the waitress was most helpful in pulling 2 tables together and serving us at the table. The food arrived promply, I had 'simply scrambled egg' on granary toast and it came with a little jar of Wilkins tomato ketchup. I had a pot of tea and it was altogether good value.

Visited this morning and was sat at a table next to the kitchen prep area. The table had crumbs all over it which the waitress brushed to the floor! Then for the next 45 minutes all I could hear was loud talking / ladies squawking from the kitchen area… all manner of detail about their personal lives….Christmas, this that and the other. You would never have thought that you were in a restaurant as there was zero awareness of clients. I then walked up to pay and one of the young girls was eating something behind the serving counter (on a plate with a fork and knife!!) Lastly, one member of staff was then heard moaning to another about how a booking had gone from 14 to 20 and how awful that was(!) Sums it up really!!! I will never go back again. Lazy, inattentive unprofessional staff.

I probably won't recommend afternoon tea here. Firstly the sandwiches we ordered were sold out but then one was available. However when it arrived, it was full of onion and it was supposed to be coronation turkey. Secondly the sponge cakes were a bit dry and we were never asked if everything was OK or offered more tea/water for the pot. In hindsight I should have complained really ☹️

What a truly dreadful visit this morning when I turned up with a friend at 11 o’clock. We were told they were full….. there were only 2 tables with people on… the young girl then told us that the Manager had said the dogs were too wet! My friend and I planned a walk specifically to this tea room . It was pouring with rain so the dogs and us were all drenched . We all had coats on and were clean . We only wanted a cake , drink and dog treats from this ‘dog friendly ‘ cafe . We were refused a table because the manager felt that the dogs were too wet . Disappointed so say the least , bearing in mind we have frequented this cafe with friends very often .

Had a very pleasant afternoon here with some friends I used to work with. Because I was a sunny day we chose to sit at one of the many tables outside. All of us but 1 ordered the scones, jam and clotted cream with various choices of tea. Service was a little slow but that was possibly due to lack of sufficient staff. However we were happy to chat together while waiting. When the order was delivered it did not disappoint! The scones (2 each) were delicious and we had individual pots of strawberry jam and bowls of thick and tasty clotted cream. Superb ! All for under £8 each. Although for me personally, it's a bit of a trek, by bus to Writtle Green, then a walk along Lordship Lane, I will definitely consider revisiting, possibly with a friend who has their own transport and will give me a ride there.

Beautiful little tea room, in Writtle, a and providing you ask when you get there if there's room for dogs, no problem... I was promised a cream tea from My Brother in Law (when I came out of Hospital).. So me being me I kept him to his word (NOT that he would of not remembered).. The "Tea Room" was really pretty, and with seating outside in the courtyard, a d about 8tables inside... I found the prices to be a little bit more expensive, BUT when u think the Tea Room is set on the same ground as Writtle College, and the fact that they sell and use "Tiptree products", the price doesn't seem so bad. Beautiful scones, jam n cream, and lovely coffee, good selection of sandwiches /jackets etc.. I really had a lovely Afternoon, with my Mum, Aunt, and Brother in law, and our 3 mischievous dogs,.. Thank you very much for a really lovely Afternoon and great food.

We have had lunch there the last 2 weeks and enjoyed our meal very much, and the staff were polite & friendly. You can’t knock the price. My only criticism would be, the food cools down quite quickly obviously because not served on hot plates. If there was a way this could be remedied then it would be excellent.
