Came in for my sons birthday . Loving the new furbished restaurant . Was served by the lovely Verity who arranged all the staff to come and sing happy birthday at the end of our meal. Food was delicious and the Yorkshire were gigantic.

My friend and I go here every week and have aways had super service from Sarah very friendly and always polite helpful is every way best place to go for a carvery

Went in for dinner on sunday, lovely food, our waitress was amazing, had an enjoyable evening until it was time to leave. I had my jacket over the back of my chair and it brushed up against the wall and it got covered in thick green residue from the newly painted wall. It wasn't brushing off, as it was a barbour wax jacket unfortunately it had stuck to the wax. The waitress gave me a wet cloth but that didn't work so the manager came to help, really kind man, didn't catch his name but he couldn't get it off either, so he called the GM to speak to us.... well he was so rude so dismissive and so unhelpful... just kept saying he would pay for dry cleaning....unfortunately you can't dry clean a wax jacket. He just kept saying he couldn't do anything without a receipt, even though it was his establishment that was still dirty from the refurbishment.... a builders clean does not mean it is clean. I went back there yesterday with a receipt to sort out the problem, but the GM was nowhere to be seen, instead we spoke to the assistant manager chris who's first day it was, he couldn't have been more helpful... really nice chap who went above and beyond to help us resolve the situation. Another member of staff mentioned the GM was hiding out the back as he doesn't like to get his hands dirty, not very professional. It was just such a shame that it happened in the first place, but errors acure, its life, but it was the way it was handled that was wrong regarding the GM. A disappointing end to our evening.

The Runwell Toby Carvery has been refurbished looks much nicer now , few problems with the food though gravy tasted like pure charcoal ruining the dinners , only bonus was the nice waitress who was very apologetic

First visit since a major ovenhaul of the interior. It looks so much better with extra tables. Food and service was exceptional this visit. Even Lamb was available and it was a Monday ! Eceptional service.

They had overbooked Had to wait 40 minutes for our pre-booked table. Lots of angry people.

This is a charming building, and that is as far as it goes. The for is some of the worst food I have the displeasure to taste. Over cooked veg and the meat was very dry. I wouldn't recommend this place to eat . Having said that, the place was full. All I can imagine is that all the people eating have never experienced good food . I would not eat at a Toby Carvery again .

An excellent breakfast, very reasonably priced. No better "bottomless" breakfast around.

Booked a table for 6 people a week in advance, booking was for 5:30 Sunday 3rd. November, we got there 15 minutes early & there was quite a queue waiting for tables, the car park was over full ! Anyway, we were told when tell reception we had arrived that there was a 25 minute wait past our booking time so we settled down and waited, my daughter went up to reception after 20 minutes just to.make sure we hadn't missed our slot, she was told that the waiting time had gone UP to 45 minutes, when she came back to tell us we were deciding whether to wait or go somewhere else when a manager/waiter came up to everybody sho had been waiting & announced that all tge ovens had broken down & that was it for the rest of the evening, NO more food was being served ! My 6 year old granddaughter was NOT very impressed, neither were we ! & to add insult to injury, the place had been closed for about a week for refurbishment !!! NOT VERY IMPRESSED AT ALL !

Terrible experience on sunday , refurbished to install more tables right next to the bar area ( doesn't work) car park full , waited 30 minutes standing in a doorway for a table , then another 30 minutes waiting to be served food . Never again on a sunday

Me and my boy had breakfast at Toby in wickford today, the coffee would have been nice if it was hot, the breakfast was barely warm, eggs was hard no tomatoes just a load of sauce, no white bread and the sausages was boarder line cooked, the breakfast was £14.98 for two, I had a cappuccino for £2.99 and my boy had a Coke and the bill come to £24.46, surely a Coke doesn’t come to £6.49. Such a shame as I was told it was nice, will never go there again

We go here when tired and cant be bothered to cook. Is an option for quick meal where you dont need to dress up. Food is usually really good plenty of vegetables, 4 different joints of meat. The interior is now looking quite tired. Could do with a lick of paint. Often there is food squashed on floor in front of serving counter and gravy splashes on floor and that station too. Staff are friendly and helpful. Good value but wouldn't choose here for a night out.

Been going here for many years and have always had a good time. Myself and the family went in for one last hurrah before the place was done up. Staff were really friendly like always, food was great and had a great time overall. Can't wait for the doors reopen and see what the place looks like.

I have not been to toby for awhile for breakfast normally would go to wetherspoons. I tried this again and realised why I do not bother. £7.00 is alot of money for poor quality and does not have all items available and lukewarm. I only come here because it was near my parents house and it was her birthday. I can say the blonde waitress was very attentive and friendly sorry did not get name also professional.

Food was ok and the server was a pleasant and very helpful but we was sat at the table by the reception and we kept on hearing her to get us out and to hurry us . This was very rude and off putting and we will as a family not be going to that resurant again or recommending to family and friends

Manager is EXTREMELY rude and obnoxious! Needs further training in people skills and etiquette!! Every time we’ve visited through a booking he is pure ignorance! Such a bad impression of the place! If he is that rude with customers I dread to think how he treats his poor staff!! Let’s hope this can improve with the new refurb!😳😳 Toilets absolutely stink 🤢 All other staff extremely pleasant every time 💯 5 of us eating as a family so a substantial amount spent on two courses per person. Refill drinks all round. Quite expensive for children refills as do not get the benefits of the cost. Child size should be an option. Food good, although roast potatoes not crispy as though had been sat a long time. Deserts were nice

Really enjoyed my breakfast this morning at this toby!

We had Sarah C as a waitress. Found hair in our food and told Sarah and she didn’t really care. Didn’t apologise or offer us anything and then brought us over the bill without us asking for it. Compared to when we came a couple weeks ago and had Jayne, it was really disappointing. Considering we found hair in our food Sarah just laughed and told us “that’s the problem with buffets. The chefs wear hats” and then walked away. Finding the hair in our food put us off the rest of our dinner and we couldn’t finish our meals.

Terrible experience compared to when we came a couple weeks ago and had Jayne who was an absolute angel.

The food was fine, the usual toby cavery, the staff were friendly. However had I seen the state of the toilets before ordering and eating, I wouldn't have. Three of the 5 ladies toilets were full to brimming with fecal matter, the smell was disgusting, my partner went to the men's said that the urinal was blocked and full and there was also a terrible smell. I left feeling sick!

Good value 'all you can eat' breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Food isn't of the highest quality, but OK and decor is getting shabby now. But for a cheap meal with friends, it's great.

Good hot food today. The meat is always very good although sometimes the vegetables can be in on the cool side, but not today. Very pleasant waitress. Extremely good value for money. Highly recommended.

Had a delicious catch up lunch with a couple of friends today. Food was hot and plentiful, but potatoes were not as nice as usual but the crackling (my favourite) made up for it. Haven't had a carvery for ages but hopefully won't be as long until the next time x Our server was really lovely and helpful and couldn't have been nicer.

Waitress was friendly and helpful..we were quickly served at the carvery.there was plenty of variety in meat and vegetables to choose from. All hot and delicious.will go again

Dont bother. Massive que for carvery. They sort takeaway orders first. The carvery an veg/pots food area was a mess.Half empty. Staff stressed. Greedy managers taking to many tables an take away orders. DONT BOTHER

Food was very good and they cater for allergies amazingly.

I visited this restaurant for the first time after reading reviews on TripAdvisor which said the restaurant was open 07:00 - 11:00. I arrived about 08:40 to find it shut and phoned the manager to find out why. He told me they didn’t open until 09:00 and if I had been in the car park more than 10 minutes I would get a parking Penalty (£100 - £60 If paid within 14 days). I mistakenly thought that the Toby website was quoting the same times but the manager responded to me after checking and they were correct. So apologies to the Toby Manager. I have deleted my original review and advised TripAdvisor of their error. I’m just hoping I don’t get a fine. Our party of 6 found the food and service very good.

Always good selection of meat and veg on a Sunday. (Apple pie pastry was not cooked though)

Food was not very warm, roast potatoes seemed to have stood for a while, tough outer skin on them, and the chap who carves the meat gets great value out of a joint, portions were a bit on the thin side. Staff were helpful and pleasant to deal with....

The food okay, but the decor is getting a bit tried. They also have a flytipping problem in the car park

Another lovely meal at Runwell Toby Carvery. Lovely food and atmosphere. Our server Jayne was exceptional. She was very attentive, helpful and polite, continually making sure we had everything we needed and always with a smile on her face. Jayne is definitely an asset to Runwell Toby Carvery!

Flies on veg. Mentioned it to a waitress passing as I was queuing and she rudely said ‘what do you expect me to do about it?’ Bright sunshine in my friends face at the table so waitress let us pull the blind down a bit. Man from behind the bar came along and pulled it up again. Explained sun was so strong my friend couldn’t see. He told us it needs to stay up. I waited til he’d gone and pulled it down again. Food was ok. But customer service spoiled it for us.

Our experience was a great 💯 breakfast and especially good customer service for people with allergies 💯. The experience was a superb example of customer service management, showing industry best practice of allergy awareness and a dynamic risk assessment by the vigilant restaurant manager at the time of our breakfast order.......one day all restaurants will be this good 👍💯

Despite a little wait for someone to take notice of us the experience was very good. Food was delicious and the older waitress looked after us exceedingly well. Would return again.

Me and my daughter go here as often as we can. Lovely food, friendly, helpful staff. Even when they are very busy (which is often) they still make time to take care of you. Good value for money and if you use the app there are often money off vouchers and even freebies.

Food was over cooked and all baked up looked like it was the day before leftovers, no interaction from staff whatsoever apart from when we was served at the till

Long wait at reception and again at the carvery, it was not busy at all, in fact there was only about 12 people in there Some of the food a bit crusty and undercooked. Meat was very good.

Was charged for drinks we didn't have, didn't realise as I did not have glasses on, was charged for a pint of beer but it was a shandy, a half of beer but it was a shandy, my wife had a coffee but was charged for a liqueur they did not have, so not impressed.

Food was good but after waiting in line and watching several people get the Kingsize plate to then be told when I got to the front that they have stopped doing it??? To then see 20 mins later people getting Kingsize again. Why???

They are very good team, i know it's hard work at a toby carvery and this one is such fantastic

Good Sunday roast At a good price for all the family

came for lunch on sunday, was seated in bar area , was nice and quite, are waitress came to take our order for drinks , when taken our food order was asked if there was any allergies or dietary requirements, i told her that my daughter was gluten, we were shown a allergen guide and a choice to go to the carvery or have it prepared from the kitchen, we were given a list to choese from , margaret was so helpful,through out our stay was checking back to see if we needed anything else, even came to tell us she was finished her shift and another lovely lady maria was going to look after us, well done girls ,( the pork was so tasty )

Great for 3 generations meeting up from 8 to 80. With great difficulty one of the party managed to sign up to get 25% off first order of meals ( for 8 of us) there was choice of Beef, lamb, pork, turkey and gammon, all beautifully cooked. Good choice of veg, Mac& cheese sauces, gravies. All deserts available except rice pudding ( sold out at the moment) good prices even without the discount.

Best Toby in the area, we choose to come here rather than our local one as it is so good. The staff know us & really make sure we have a great time & Dan on the carvery is lovely. Definitely prefer this Toby to any other I have visited, the food & service are top notch.

Food is not fit for a pig and I had to pay 34 pounds for it

Meal was lovely and the lovely lady assistant was caring, kind and thoughtful to my needs as I am partial sighted she ensured I got back to my table and carried my plate for me. Very impressed with our roast lunch and the surrounding atmosphere 👌

Had a really lovely buffet breakfast here with family & friends. Eat as much as you like 👍 would thoroughly recommend 👌. Very reasonably priced too.

Today 10th July 2023, visited Toby carvery in wickford, around 12 lunchtime. Found a table and a lovely lady Denise greeted us with a warm welcome with good morning. I'm sure the mature ladies name was Denise. She mentioned the food is nearly ready and would we like some drinks. Food ready and up we went. My mouth was watering by the time I sat down to munch. There was nothing left apart from the dumplings rock hard. Main food finished, I ordered a sponge with ice cream and our lovely server gave us a extra spoon in Hubby wanted a taster of mine. Denise came we ordered cappuccino and milky coffee. Lovely chat with Denise, what a wonderful person she was. Toby Carvery Runwell, can't wait to visit again. Food very delicious and lovely warm welcome by a lovely lady. Thankyou so much. Carolyn Dilks
