The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

We visited Oakley Hay Beefeater on a Sunday morning— a family of 4 with two kids under 5, to escape the cleanup normally involved when making breakfast at home. We were served by James on this occasion. He was warm, friendly, and engaging, making us all feel welcome from the start. The breakfast buffet offered a great mix of options, from cereals and yogurt to hot items like bacon and sausages. The kids loved the "restaurant eggs", beans, and pain au chocolat. Overall, it was a relaxed, family-friendly start to the day, thanks to James’ fantastic service, and the good standard of food served here.

Dinner between 24 colleagues on the principle of a menu to share! Delicious in everything. Grilled halloumi with gray squid as a starter. The caramelized pork is to die for!

What can I say about The Devonshire. From the moment we stepped through the door you could feel the warm and friendly atmosphere. The staff were very lovely and attentive. Nothing was to much trouble. There was no wait time at the bar or for our table. We oredered the blade of beef and the lamb shank. The service was quick and efficient despite being busy. The food was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented and full of flavour. The meat melted in the mouth, it was delectable. Nothing was over cooked or under cooked. For desert we both had the lemon sicilian baked cheesecake, beautifully presented, full of delicious flavours and very light. Overall a fabulous meal. I would recommend booking early as it gets very busy very quickly, but I can highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant. It's also very reasonably priced. Can't wait for our next visit ❤️

An excellent half term brunch with the kids, staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend.

Just had a lovely lunch here with my friend today. We were welcomed by Hassan, he was super friendly and engaging throughout. The food arrived quickly and was good. I recommend the battered cod and chips.

This was my second visit, and while I liked the atmosphere and food, the long wait times are a major issue. Last time, the wait was 45 minutes, which was understandable due to the place being busy. However, today, despite the pub being quiet, we waited over an hour for our food. Additionally, one person in our group cannot eat spicy food due to a health condition and chose a wrap that didn’t list any spicy ingredients. Unfortunately, an ingredient, the tomato sauce, turned out to be spicy. While we appreciated the kitchen offering to replace the dish, we were charged for both the uneaten dish and the replacement. We were disappointed, especially since the menu didn’t indicate that the sauce was spicy, unlike many other places that make this clear. Overall, the food was decent but overpriced, and the service needs significant improvement, particularly regarding wait times. If they were going to charge for the uneaten dish, it should have been left on the table for someone else in the group to eat. Unfortunately, the lack of clear communication and the way the issue was handled has left us reluctant to return.

Really poor food. Ordered steak and ale pie. Meat was tough and almost inedible. Service and servers really good and pleasant. It was very quiet but the food was awful. Sad as it used to offer really good lunches

El almuerzo del Día de la Madre fue decepcionante, 4 adultos y un bebé se pusieron en una mesa pequeña, sin suficiente espacio para obtener cómodamente comida y bebidas. No se le pedían bebidas hasta que se tomaba el pedido de comida, entonces el agua nunca apareció a la mesa. La comida estaba bien, pero las verduras eran duras, las patatas asadas estaban quemadas, salsa de ternera con cena de cerdo asado, en realidad. En general no es una experiencia gastronómica relajada por el precio muy caro de £ 90 por pareja, 1 bebida, entrantes y principal. 😡

We went for Sunday breakfast & we're second in the queue to order. No welcome from the staff, not even a smile. They didn't seem interested in anything. They did greet warmly what were obviously regulars! It took over 20 minutes to get our coffees. Very nice coffee but could have done with being hotter. The food was great & served on piping hot plates. We had to wait for the cutlery & sauces after we received the food.

1.30 on a Monday... (advertised hours till 2pm) Sorry kitchen is closed as we are too quiet. Unfortunate, as we will never return. We ended up at zizzi which was ok, but interestingly the table next to us was also annoyed at Rock Salt for tur inv them away. We were keen to spend a 3 course meal with wine, and we do return to good place. Now nope, and until the annoyance fades will actively be warning friends away.

You must come and check out the Chesterfield at least once! The vibes are great, the food is very nice and let’s be real - you come for the staff. Miss Taylor is an absolute star and if you ever have a problem make sure to go to her! Love a good night out to the Chesterfield!
