Never go anywhere else to eat when visiting town, in fact we make a special trip just for our lunch. All the food is homemade and the specials are top notch. If the Corned beef pie is on the specials then that is a must!! The atmosphere is welcoming, friendly and that goes for the customers and the staff and the owner/chef is a great guy!

Absolutely loved my experience! I ordered chicken salad, chicken and mushroom panini, and they were both amazing. The flavors were spot on. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Had to go back to my restaurant in a hurry, and they were kind enough to bring my order there. That guy was amazing. I can't recommend this place enough—10/10! I'll definitely be coming back for more.

My wife and I, both of us in our late sixties, were driving back from Milton Keynes and decided to pop into Northampton to wander around the shops. We were getting a bit peckish, so not knowing the town we began to look for somewhere to eat, and happened across this fish bar. There were a lot of people sitting inside, and a queue for take-out (nothing advertises a place better than this scenario), so we decided that this was the place for our lunch. We got a table straight away and sat down to look at the menu. We noticed that they did a seniors’ special (fish, chips, mushy peas, bread & butter and a hot drink for £10.75 each), so we plumped for that. It took a while for someone to serve us at the table, but we weren’t in a rush so it wasn’t a problem. Now we had already been told that there was around a fifteen minute wait for food, so we were well aware of that. It appears that this is not the normal situation, but there was some problem that was unusual to the running of the establishment (they tried to explain it to us, but the reason went totally over our heads, although it didn’t matter anyway, as we were fully prepared to wait for the meal to be freshly cooked and brought to the table). In slightly less than the time we were given the meal arrived and looked good, and as it had just been cooked and brought immediately to the table, was piping hot. It also tasted great, and the tea was good quality. Now onto a few negatives, for which I’m going to drop this eatery down one point in the overall score. Back in our home town the same meal in our local café is similarly priced, but this is the cost to everyone, and not a special price for seniors, so we really didn’t think that the cost of the meal was that pensioner friendly. Also the fish here was much smaller than in our local eatery. Saying that the meal we had here tasted great and we did enjoy it. The staff are also some of the politest and friendliest people we have met running an eatery. We would eat here again if we were in town, and would recommend it as the meal was good, but consideration maybe need to be given to dropping the price a little bit more for it truly to be good value for senior citizens.

A hidden gem 💎 great value for money and amazing coffee and food. The milkshakes were a particular hit with the kids with such a huge variety of flavours. Cleanliness and presentation was 5 stars all round and staff were all really lovely and accommodating. Will definitely be back again!

Everything a pub should be. The lamplighter is not our local, but we use it as one. It is worth the further travel. The food is incredible, honest, and delicious pub food with vegan tapas on a Tuesday that is always so innovative. The roast on a Sunday is by far the best in town, not one to miss! The excellent food and the vast drinks on offer (including fantastic cocktails) are second, however, to the lamps biggest selling point - the staff! They are happy and welcoming, have a chat and a laugh with you, and make us feel like we're part of this magical pub. Try the lamplighter for food, drinks or even for one of their legendary dj nights and you definitely will not be disappointed!

Went for a work Christmas do for the festive Christmas feast. Waited over an hour after our pre booked arrival time before we were told we could go and help ourselves at the buffet by which time some things had run out and the warm food was tepid. Food was average. No table water and no nibbles while we waited. Limited bar choice. Disappointing night and terrible value for £30 excluding drinks.

I have just had a very odd experience with two of your bouncers. They refused me entry because my “eyes looked weird. l said that I had only had one glass of Prosecco and thought he was joking. My friends and I stayed and waited for them to check our ids. They then said “you’re not getting in. You either have hayfever or you’re too drunk.” We continued to think he was joking and asked if we could come in. He refused and very confused we walked away. I am writing this directly after this encounter so I am clearly not “drunk.” This was a horrid encounter. He obviously made up his mind about us before we started communicating at all. I will not be returning as I was singling someone out based on their appearance and I will not support an organisation that allows their bouncers to do this.
