Amazing care was taken of us before and during my Dads celebration of life on 25th July. Nicola was very accommodating and very kind and considerate when both visiting and booking the venue. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble. On the day Albert was an absolute star and his cocktail making will be the talk of the family for a while. They made a very difficult day easier to manage and made the day special for us all. I would recommend them for any event.

Stumbled across Cheyne walk club a few months ago after searching for the best cocktails in Northampton. At first we didn't realise it was a members only club, but after loitering around the front door, we were invited in and given a tour. We got some drinks at the bar and we were pleasantly surprised how beautiful and unusual the building is, friendly the staff and members are and how great the location is. Free parking for members, a great selection of drinks from the bar, friendly crowd and have been back since to enjoy a charity pub quiz night. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a club out of the ordinary, somewhere new to try or a nice drink to the end the evening.

We have always had THE BEST time being served by the incredible Albert, the greatest mixologist (though he prefers to called cocktail bar tender) he is amazing. Tell him what you fancy, if you like sweet or bitters, floral or Smokey - he has it covered. I’ve followed Albert from a previous bar and he has always pulled it out the bag. I have even become a member of The Cheyne Walk Club as it is a gorgeous environment, an indoor fireplace & private garden. But all aside, where Albert goes, I go. He’s the best. No joke. Total wizard that gets you drunk & you have the best time.

This is a beautiful venue for hosting a private event, offering multiple spaces for your guests to spread out and make themselves comfortable. I've just had my second event there (of course I just had to come back). The function room is perfect for cabaret-style performances, and the main bar and garden are picturesque places to relax with a vintage vibe. Another nice feature is that they have a separate room for setting up your buffet, so it doesn't clutter your performance space. The bar staff are super friendly, and their specially crafted cocktail menus is to die for! Will certainly be back a third time! Xx

This is the perfect venue for people who love quality cocktails! I’ve been telling my friends since I went last night for the first time. Albert was so attentive in a nice relaxed way. He asked what I liked to drink, told me about some of the spirits, liqueurs, blends that he’s made & we decided on a twisted espresso martini to start. WOW. It was immense. You could tell it was what it said on the tin but with an amazing quirk! Then onto the most gorgeous Aviator. I’ve never had one before but Albert suggested we try some squid ink gin… honestly! The bottle itself was stunning & strangely the gin was delicious as the sample proved. The result was lovely & so beautiful with strawberry bursts in a passion fruit skin. Such a treat but without the price tag. The same price you’d pay in some awful chain for a sugary mess. The fire was going. Everyone was friendly saying hi. Lovely relaxed environment & as I was on my own I was happy to chat but saw several people just doing their own thing. As a woman on my own I felt comfortable & even if not, feel I could’ve asked anyone for help. It’s not very modern nor do I think that aspires to be. There’s some very lovely modern art but wooden panelling etc. feels quite white, male environment but wasn’t at all the vibe. All races, sexualities clearly welcome! I think that you get the idea that I loved it. Will be bringing my friends for a bloody good catch up asap!

I coach snooker at the club and I have been here for nearly 2 years. It's only small with 3 snooker tables but members are friendly and it has a nice bar area. Great place to coach as tables are in good condition and the snooker room is quiet. The club plays in the local snooker league and also runs its own competitions throughout the year. Friendly club for the serious snooker player. The club can also be hired out for weddings and parties and does amazing food although this has had to be put on hold due to covid.

I believe Cheyne Walk Club is owned and run by Northampton City Council. It is an opulent 19th century industrialist's mansion, complete with original interiors that have not been destroyed by being painted over or removed entirely. These styles seem to be Gothic Revival in the hallway and a less defined baronial style in the sitting room that contains the (very modern) bar. It's extremely impressive. Sadly, an additional room has been stuck on the front, which spoils the look of a fine exterior. (Of course it could be removed...) Sadly, also, the front garden is a car park. The wretched car has destroyed an area that may formerly have been beautiful. I look forward, as a car refusenik, to the day the oil's run out, and people are forced to walk to these places. Maybe the ugly tarmac could be dug up, though I'm not holding my breath...

This was my first time experiencing Cheyne walk, I didn't really know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The feel of this place is fantastic the building has apparently been around for more than a hundred years and you can feel the history when you walk in. The gent behind the bar seemed very helpful and answered my questions ( of which I had a few). In short , not many places left with the history and feel of this hidden gem. It's nice to be able to have a drink in a quiet and safe environment.

Booked for a birthday party. Arrived to setup and found tables with filthy table-cloths so had to change ourselves. Luckily we provided outside catering via fish and chip van so did not have to use the kitchen. We were told van had to go around the back, where guests had to walk in pitch black, with 2 falling over. No thought to light the area. Staff ill-informed. Drinks pre-requested not catered for. Luckily we managed to put on a great night which was only spoilt a little by the call for last orders at 10.30 and then staff abruptly asking how long we were going to be at 11.00 while guests were saying there goodbyes. Still the night was fantastic, but this was due to our friends, family, DJ and outside caterer and certainly not due to the venue or staff. We would not use again. Prefer a cleaner, professional and welcoming venue.

Worst place ever !!! Had a venue here and manager tried to kick us out at 10:30 although I was told last drink at 12 midnight and can stay another few hours.. not enough cuttlery or glasses not to say i had to rewash as food still stuck to it!! Very dirty kichen with food so old in fridge it maked me sick on spot... had to come in early to arrange room but the manager opened up and left us and half of chairs and tables were locked in storage with no acces to them.. Also the bar room was locked till 5 when my venue started and my guest started to arrive and i was busy moving furniture out of the way as no help from them and decorating room !! It was a total disaster!! The wisky finished and manager went to buy from morrisons selling it at roof top prices!! Very expensive and not worth the hassle !! Spend your money elsewhere as i regret coming to this place and will never recommend it to nobody not even my greatest enemy!!! I was promised the meter outside will get covered but never did so all guests could had been fined !!! Bar manager was very rude to us when confronted and although i showed him what was agreed when booking was made we had been forced to stop music at 10:45 and tell 90 people its finished !! I never was more embarrassed in my life as this was meant to be a very big event it was a disaster !!! AVOID!!! AVOID !!!! AVOID!!! AVOID

I was never keen on the idea of joining a Club as I thought that was all about exclusion. Having read about Ray Oldenburg's 'The Great Good Place' I realised there's a true 'third place' in Northampton. Founded by and for business owners and still a hang-out for the self-employed, this is a place to decompress, have intelligent conversation, meet new friends and yes, still do business. A really friendly, welcoming environment.

Having read some lovely things about this place my partner decided to hold an event here and we were extremely underwhelmed! On first inspection the building is a beautiful old house (although somewhat destroyed by the 1970's!) yet in need of some serious renovations and a good clean. Initially we dealt with Denise who was very professional and prompt yet closer to the date we dealt with David who was un-enthused and very forgetful. We also spoke with Nathan re the food who was an improvement but there was a weak link somewhere as what was discussed with Nathan, David was unaware of and vice-versa. On the night, we arrived and received a warm greeting and luckily our guests were blissfully unaware of the difficulty we'd initially had. Unfortunately, although we had been told that the chef previously worked in a Michelin Starred restaurant, I would be very surprised if he had even worked in a Harvester. I'm not sure if he believed such an event was beneath his qualities so delegated to an apprentice or if he was just having an off day but the hog roast and buffet was appalling and certainly not of the high quality we expected! We were informed by David that caterer who used to receive high praise had left the club at the beginning of this year and the standard had not been replaced. We were served dry rolls and warm salad with the hog roast and the buffet was clearly brought in from a wholesalers. The sauces had been out for so long they had skin on top by the time then buffet was opened! The bar staff were all quite scruffy, David was pouring with sweat, the older of the 2 ladies was terribly slow and didn't know the range of drinks available, the younger of the 2 females had a terrible attitude and constantly had her mobile phone in her hand! David and one of the 2 ladies were seen pouring and drinking alcoholic beverages whilst at the bar and David was constantly outside smoking. Both the female members of staff were also caught visiting the hog roast?! Terribly unprofessional and inconsiderate! When my husband popped in to (begrudgingly!) pay the caterer, they too were all outside with bottles of beer and smoking! All in all this is a poorly managed venue with no consistency nor any standards. We will certainly not be back nor will we recommend! Much more professional, cleaner and welcoming venues around the county.

I was recently invited to lunch at this Club in Northampton. My colleague and I had been working in the area. What a wonderful building, which apparently was originally the home of Northampton Mayors. In the 1930's the building was taken over by the Club which is still prospering. Back to lunch. I was asked what I would like to eat and it was suggested that we have a ham sandwich. My friend said through in some chips, and I said let's have ham and chips with a fried egg. No sooner had we ordered this meal than it was served, piping hot in the bar. It was handsome. Three thick slices of ham off the bone, some very tasty chips and a fried egg. A feast fit for a king, well my friend and I. The surprising thing was that there were very few diners, just four people. What is wrong with the members of this Club? If I lived in Northampton I would be eating there most days. An excellent place to dine with good food. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because of the lack of other diners which reduced the atmosphere.

I went with a group of local business owners to try out Cheyne Walk Club's steak night menu. The chef, Gary Palmer, has a good reputation and we wanted to try this out. I don't generally choose steak when I go out as I think I can cook a decent steak at home. However, I was proved very wrong here as this was excellent. I went to Frank's Steakhouse last year and was underwhelmed. However, I was very impressed with this meal. I had whitebait to start, which was nicely flavoured and well presented. I accompanied this with a glass of Tio Pepe. For the main I chose the fillet, which was cooked to a turn, tender but a lot more flavour than I'm used to, making the sauce au poivre redundant. I accompanied this with a good shiraz malbec.Thick chips, and a goodly portion of mixed vegetables meant I was too stuffed for pudding, although others in the group tucked into apple pie and were very complimentary. We dined in the period surroundings of the Wilson Room, which also added to the atmosphere. Highly recommended if you like steak, like good service and want somewhere different to the usual restaurant experience. One of the party posted a photo of his meal on Twitter which I have uploaded here- although he'd started tucking in the presentation is a little spoiled.

Left in tears! Arrived at the restaurant at 4pm today with my husband. Hadn't booked, but as it was 4pm on a Sunday, we took a chance. The man allocating tables inside the main entrance (the manager, I think), gave us a table, and the waitress took us to our seats. However, our table was so incredibly close to the people sitting next to us, I felt suddenly very uncomfortable, and asked if we could be moved. (This restaurant is enormous. It's 4pm on Sunday, and there are ample empty tables). The manager/table allocator, became so instantly furious at my request, he literally shouted at me. He was marching me around the place, with flailing arms, pointing and yelling at me about how "all the tables are close together! Because we need to survive you know!". I tried to explain that was OK, but that I would just prefer to sit next to an unoccupied table, if possible, but he wasn't listening and just continued to twist up his face, and spit at me further. I think I was so stunned (as a simple request to move tables seemed very reasonable to me, especially given how many empty tables were available), that I went and sat back down in my chair to process what had just happened. This emphatically rude and unprofessional gentleman then proceeded, in a very animated fashion, to point and complain loudly about me to the waitress standing next to him. He then engaged another member of staff in the same conversation, loudly, shouting down the walkway to one another next to where we were still sitting. The two tables of people next to us, were understandably staring right at us, having had their meals so rudely interrupted, and the entire ordeal was completely humiliating and honestly, quite traumatic. Especially for a socially anxious person, who has a been working hard to overcome a significant phobia of eating in front of others, and has finally been spontaneous and plucked up the courage to attend what is described in Google reviews as a "good restaurant", with "polite, friendly and accommodating staff". Honestly, all he needed to say was "I'm sorry madam, all of our tables are reserved and will be full before you finish your meal". Or, "as you didn't book, I'm afraid this is all we can offer". Or any of the other vast number of possible, proportionate responses available. This behaviour was totally uncalled for, reactive, egotistical and offensive, and I am utterly appalled to think that any service would feel justified in treating their customers this way. I'm not surprised they "need to survive"! If you enjoy being spoken to disrespectfully, being publically dressed down and humiliated, and leaving a place hungry and in tears before you've even so much as ordered a drink, then this is the place for you. Alternatively, you can spend your money at Karen's. Deeply disappointed.
