Good dog friendly pub great selection of drinks not currently doing food

Haven't been here in ages.. Attended a mates 50th birthday bash. Friendly and efficient staff.. Got served fairly quickly. Had an amazing time. 👍🏼. Great little pub. I used to come here as a treat when I was a kid, walking back from the park on Sunday afternoons.. Then have a coke and some walkers ready salted crisps.. 😊

Beautiful pub bigger than it looks from the outside. Have decided to hold my 60th birthday party here 🙂

Unfortunately no food was being served the day that we visited. But it’s genuinely a lovely pub. We will return when the chef is back onboard

Lovely experience at the pub. Eton mess was delicious. They provided good prompt service and a water bowl for the dog

Very friendly welcome. Our dogs were treated like royalty as were we. Food was fantastic and generous. Beer and wine very good. Lovely pub and beer garden. Definitely recommend.

Visited today ,1st time . Lovely little pub , really nice decor .Food was great, we all enjoyed the dishes we choose. Priced really reasonably also. The staff were very friendly, and welcoming. We will definitely be back .

A nice quiet pub, food was great.

We booked a birthday party for my son, the food was spot on and we loved having access to our own bar with pool table. Great atmosphere with music and the staff were so friendly. Would definitely recommend this venue to a friend. Thanks again for a great party.

Such a fantastic pub. A mere 15 minutes walk from Franklin's Gardens and about 20 minutes walk from the town centre of Northampton but it feels and looks like a countryside pub. The food was also brilliant (I had steak and ale pie and it was huge) Will definately be back

Absolutely amazing staff, the atmosphere makes you feel so at home.

Went along to celebrate a birthday and wasn't expecting anything special especially as it was a Sunday carvery. However food was really group and out of the 7 of us there was not a single complaint or grumble and clean plates all around. The carvery was well priced and possibly a little cheap for the quality delivered. I would be more than happy to recommend or go back again and looking forward to getting to try the main menu at some point in the near future

We didn't eat anything the last time we visited the wheatsheaf that's why I've given it 1 star. This is a traditional pub with a really good atmosphere but not the cheapest place for a night out.

We had a surprise 50th birthday party here for my husband last week and it was a fantastic night fab staff fab atmosphere fab pub love love love ❤️

We recently held our sons 18th birthday party ,the staff here at absolutely amazing,we had an area of the pub sectioned off and we all had a great time , the party food was reasonably priced and the quality and selection was just perfect , the staff went above and beyond and wouldn't hesitate to use again in the future , thanks hev ,John and all your team for making our sons party such an amazing event.

We had our son's christening after party here today. The staff have been amazing, literally met all our needs. The communication has been spot on. They have gone above and beyond to make it enjoyable. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was relaxed. Also it's in a lovely location 😊

Really nice out of the way pub. We got a cheese platter with sausage rolls that was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be visiting again ☺️

My partner and I drove for 40 mins to get to the pub, only to find it closed at 8pm on a Saturday. Google states it was open and closing at 11pm. I tried calling. No answer. No website to visit. Only Facebook and I’m not on Facebook. All in all very disappointed. As I had to settle for a supermarket ready meal.

Amazing pies and a good selection on tap. An all round relaxing and nice place to be.

Pub beautiful, and staff, however the menu is almost just pies, went for sunday lunch and had to have fish/chips as don't eat pies. It was dead in there if they offered a better menu I'm sure they would entice people in, like sunday proper dinner, such a shame, but as said pub staff great

My wife is Gluten intolerant, this is the first time we have gone anywhere that she could eat absolutely anything on the menu. The food was excellent and the selection of pies is quite something. Loads of meat in the pies too! There is also a good choice of starters & deserts. The staff were friendly as was the chef (who delivered our mains because the bar staff were run off their feet) I would thoroughly recommend a visit, we will definitely be going back

Fabulous food and lovely service. The BBQ brisket pie was absolutely awesome and it was so reassuring to enjoy GF food in a completely GF environment. So happy to know I can have a tasty meal and not feel ill afterwards. That's worth it's weight in gold. Thank you. I will definitely be returning.

Pie's and Rum . . . . It's my perfect date . . . But dressed up as a clean, friendly, and homely pub! Now doing a great twist on a Sunday Lunch . . Yorkshire Pudding, all the Trimmings, but with a selected Pie!!

Best pub in Northampton. Family & dog friendly with a great roster of regular events, incl. comedy, quiz and physic nights. Paul & family are very welcoming and the choice of ales/lager is just right catering for all tastes. The “Snaccidents” bar menu is a fave for us. Highly recommend!

Ok for a quick pint but to deer

Didn't realise that they didn't do a traditional Sunday lunch until after we paid the deposit, but thought we would give it a try for a family meal for my Birthday, really wish I never,my youngest grandson was eating snacks and as they wasnt gluten free had to take them away from him,he is only 9months and was sitting in a high chair, then they started discenfecting around him like he had some sort of disease. The food was tasteless and had no flavour,the dessert was nice,but the customer service was awful!

A fantastic country pub with good food and beers. Then you realise your basically in the middle of northampton and its 100% gluten free and its all the better.

Entirely gluten free menu! Everything is gluten free: pizza, pie, fish & chips, desserts, etc. We have been twice now, most recently for an extended family celebration where our 3 coeliacs had the luxury of being able to choose ANYTHING from the menu. Lovely dining area, stylish and comfortable with hidden Pi references. Stunning location and great playground just round the corner in Dallington Park. Well worth a visit, we should support this brilliant pub.

Came here for the first time for lunch today very good food and service looking forward to trying the new menu when it comes out

First visit plus pram! The rear entry was problematical, however, exit via the front was easier....we should have checked first. A warm welcome from the barstaff. The pub has a good reputation for home made pies and we looked into the lounge / restaurant area which was inviting and we will try out soon hopefully.

We dined here on Thursday and Friday night as we were on a long weekend break at a nearby AirBnB. Absolutely fantastic! Great food and superb service, would not hesitate to come back and happy to recommend, 5 Stars from me!

Ok if you want gluten-free everything, not for me I'm afraid also only one hand pulled beer, I use the term loosely as it was Everard's Tiger which was like maiden's water.

Service from staff. And attitude from owner was absolutely shocking. Arrogant man After talking to a few locals at the pub. No wonder they have said how the pub has gone down hill recently due to the fact of the attitude and people skills of new owner. Glad I’m not local. Also food ok Quiz guy made the night

Wonderful gluten-free venue - the pies are absolutely exceptional and you wouldn't know they're GF! It's great for me as a coeliac. Very rare to have so much choice and peace of mind at the same time.

£8.65 for a large white wine, which is extortionate I’m afraid. I don’t think the pub will last too long, couldn’t afford to keep the darts team there.

Absolutely blown away by the menu and the delicious homemade pies. So exciting to have a menu that's completely gluten free, as I usually get stuck making do with whatever I can find for gluten free meals out. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. Can't recommend highly enough so good we went back last night too!

Reviews need updating as there is no interaction with customers food looks unappealing and the drinks are expensive which you don’t mind if it’s a good pint and good atmosphere but it’s not . This is such a shame because it used to be such a good place to go for food ,drink and friendly banter .

Great place if anyone in family or group is gluten free. Every food is done gluten free so no contamination. I am not gluten free but it was the best pastry i have ever had. All cooked fresh to order. They have a ramp if needed

A jewel in a crown. We popped in for a drink and tried their fabulous pies. They are not normal pies but very special. A lot of filling in a traditional individual pie dish with light thin puff pastry top. We will definitely be returning to sample another pie.

Friendly enough bar staff, but not the best pub , pretty run down, beer didn’t taste great, smelt of old burnt food and the toilets stank bad . Shame as it’s a nice old building and could be a nice pub.

A great selection of pies and puddings. We had the haddock & tomato, the pork, pear & ginger and the blue cheese burger. All were delicious. Great value for money as the pub is signed up to the government scheme making each main course and pudding just £10 per head. Good service and very friendly staff. Lovely evening thankyou.

We took 2 grandchildren to the Halloween party they dressed up and had a brilliant 3 hours of entertainment.Paul and his gang really have this local family pub going again . It was a bargain at £10 each which included food drinks prizes the best balloon art I have seen each child had an individual item made for them by the entertainer who was superb we ended up spending a great 4 hours there well done guys can’t wait for the Christmas party .

I went here with a friend late afternoon/early evening on Sunday There was a nice friendly atmosphere and the customers were friendly and welcoming. The pub is nicely decorated and clean. The Manager, Rob, is very friendly and made me feel very welcome when I said I had just moved to the area. You can even take your dog in. I like this pub and will definately going back very soon. Highly recommend.

Bar staff super friendly really nice, she get 4 stars by self. Doesnt feel to child friendly, no kids menu. Kitchen staff need make more effort, pepper corn in mash to spicy. Burger have extra seasoning not very nice zero milk in the whole place for coffee or tea staff refuse to get milk very disappointed visit.

Went here for lunch with my friend lady behind bar was lovely but was very disappointed with visit, not very child friendly no kids menu so opted for mash and gravy but unfortunately mash had peppercorns in and my little one got upset cause was hot so I had to give her my jacket potato, I wanted coffee but no milk even tho a member of staff clearly walked past with some milk, more than enough for a coffee, I thought customers came first but obviously not far from impressed I would give it a miss next time

3rd Manager in 6 months,the pub is struggling to find its position in the marketplace especially for food, menu looks like a copy from spoons or hungry horse. Beers are generally good.

We had a meal here in July 19. Speaking to the bar staff the pub has changed hands again - this time a local chap who has lived in the area all his life know has the tenancy. Apparently the new landlord apart from being a local is also a hugely experienced chef!The menu has much improved and the quality has gone up, but the prices seem a little lower - so that's a win-win for everyone.The food was excellent - the quantities were just about right, it was served with a smile and at the right temperature. The wait was just long enough to settle down, enjoy our drink, but not too long.This is a great local pub that has recently suffered from lack of investment, and tenants who didn't seem to know the area. There is a separate 'bar' area and a 'restaurant' area which will keep everyone happy.There is a good sized car park, and dogs appear to be welcome.
