Visited for the Sunday roast a couple of weeks ago and it was outstanding. Everything cooked to perfection, meats so tender. Went this evening to try the thirdsday offer (1/3 off burgers between 4-9pm) Again it was exceptional! Excellent food, friendly attentive staff, good portions and a nice atmosphere .The Lamplighter has become our first choice for dining out. 😁👌

First time at the Lamplighter for a family birthday meal on the Sunday. Parking was good as you can park anywhere on the Sunday. Booked our meal in advance. I had the roast beef which is pictured. Two large slabs of beef and selection of veg including roast potatoes. We had also ordered some side dishes of parsnips, red cabbage etc. all really nice and so much food. My only nitpick would be that the beef was a little chewy and the kids meals came out after the adults. Maybe I’ll try the pork and crackling next time. All in all a great pub with plenty of drink on tap.

Great little pub. The brisket burger was excellent. Chunky chips were cooked perfectly. The desserts were so delicious and really just hit the spot after a great meal. Really reasonably priced and the atmosphere is awesome. Best thing was the staff though, great lads, very friendly and excellent service. Definitely recommend. I know its a small pub which means small menu but maybe some more staple foods like steak would be a great addition. Will definitely be returning.

A place that is not friendly to people with OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)❗ Throughout my time there, I struggled with my jacket, which kept slipping off the chair. Finally, I noticed a hook under the lamp, which is probably supposed to fulfill this function, but the bartender didn't like hanging a light jacket. But where is the hanger for coats, hats and umbrellas❓👉🧥🎩☂️ After all, it's 2025 and a cold, rainy winter🥶🌧️☔🌬️ Unfortunately, The Lamplighter is a place where you should eat your coat, jacket, hat or umbrella as an appetizer, because the selection of starters is VERY modest. This gives us the image of an ORDINARY BEER HOUSE🍻💁🏼‍♂️

Everything a pub should be. The lamplighter is not our local, but we use it as one. It is worth the further travel. The food is incredible, honest, and delicious pub food with vegan tapas on a Tuesday that is always so innovative. The roast on a Sunday is by far the best in town, not one to miss! The excellent food and the vast drinks on offer (including fantastic cocktails) are second, however, to the lamps biggest selling point - the staff! They are happy and welcoming, have a chat and a laugh with you, and make us feel like we're part of this magical pub. Try the lamplighter for food, drinks or even for one of their legendary dj nights and you definitely will not be disappointed!

I never feel the need to write a review but this was THE NASTIEST food I’ve ever had and I was so excited to have my first Sunday roast ever. The ratings are deceiving or they’ve gone down hill. I tried both the roast beef and pork. Meat was so tough I had to spit it out twice. There was no use trying to gnaw through it. The pork had the taste and texture of Turkey which was bizarre and the crackling still had half the animal hair attached to it. The potato’s were well over cooked as well. I had to get another meal from somewhere else. Waste of 15 pound.

We have eaten here frequently in the past but have not done so for a while. Booked a table for five for Sunday lunch today, checked with staff about dairy and GF options when booking ( eliminating from my diet due to health reasons ). Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and was asked if we wanted to order any drinks at the bar or if we would like them to take our drinks order at our table in a few minutes, decided to order drinks from table and this was done within 5 minutes, drinks served and given decent time gap to decide on what order before the waitress took our orders....and this is where I fell down. Our daughter has dairy and soya allergies ( has done since birth ) and whilst it has somewhat limited what she can order it was always feasible to order something so whilst I enquired about diary and GF I never anticipated that all food is cooked with soy bean oil. We have not come across this but I think given the economic climate it is obviously an avenue a few restaurants are going down. We were aplogised to profusely but it was not their fault or error. We were offered our drinks to be comped but we declined as it was no one's fault but our own. The manager ( I think ) came over after a few minutes whilst we were finishing off our drinks and said they were comping the drinks due to not being able to serve or meet our daughters requirements, again we said no but they insisted. Whilst trying to figure out what to do the waitress came over and gave us a couple of recommendations to eat at, The Pomfret and The County Tavern. Although we were looking forward so much to an amazing Sunday lunch, we left with disappointment but felt so taken care of...so for that reason the lamplighter deserves a 5* for fantastic customer service and ambience alone. Was extremely jealous of all the amazing looking plates of food being served whilst waiting. Information purposes only: The Pomfret uses vegetable oil with soy mixed and the County has a separate fryer and uses vegetable only.

Took some friends to the Lamplighter as it was highly recommended by friends. I had heard it was the best roast in Northampton, and they were not wrong. The food was amazing! Both my friends are vegetarians and it’s hard to find a roast that has more than one veggie option, but here there were 3, they had just as much choice as I had with the meats. Portion sizes for both the meat and veggie options were gigantic and so tasty. We shared the side of cauliflower cheese and it was the best I’ve had in a long time. Would definitely recommend!

Met friends at The Lamplighter last night for pre dinner drinks. I haven’t been here for a long time as I no longer work round the corner. We arrived at 6pm. The pub was busy with families, couples, friends and singles. It started to empty around 7, then quickly started to fill up as people arrived in time for the evening band!!! It has a lovely typically English pub vibe. There were even people sitting in the garden courtyard despite the fact it was a little chilly. The barman was friendly and helpful. They had a good choice of draught beers and they even offered my husband a taste before he made his choice. They serve cocktails but unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate my piña colada request, which wasn’t a surprise or a problem. I tried a different cocktail with lemoncello, soda and Prosecco (I think) which was really lovely. During our visit, I use the toilets which were nice and clean, however they were up upstairs, so I don’t know what the options are for disabled visitors. There is a second area upstairs where people were eating. It looked nice and pleasant, and we have decided that we will come back for some food another time. The food has always been excellent when I’ve been before, but as I say, I’ve not been for several years. It’s also nice to see that they welcome dogs. They had a band that was setting up, However, we found them very loud and not our type of music. They have quiz night on Wednesdays and I believe they have a 70s night over the Easter weekend. So it seems they cater for many different tastes. Parking is a challenge, however we got a taxi to this little backstreet pub. Although it is a little out of the way, it’s only a short five minute walk to the centre of town and lots of restaurants and bars, so you have the choice to eat at the Lamplighter and enjoy the entertainment, or to make it ‘one of your stops!’ I look forward to writing another review after we have sampled what I believe will be, excellent food as it looked delicious. We may even book for their Sunday Lunch!

Went to the Lamplighter on Sunday the 1st of October, the food is normally OK, I ask for a Gluten free Sunday pork roast, it was very salty, ok they made the effort, but the staff are so polite good service, my wife had a normal Pork roast, we did find the veg very eldenty, hard veg, but each to there own, 😀

Absolutely brilliant steak. Great experience yet again! If you can moan about this place then I suggest you don't go there! We're regulars and love it everytime. Service is exceptional and Leanne always looks after us! But all staff great. Food is the best of the hungry horses. How they are so different baffles me! Got this place right, hats off to the management! Keep it up your all amazing. Would Recommend here to all
