Never go anywhere else to eat when visiting town, in fact we make a special trip just for our lunch. All the food is homemade and the specials are top notch. If the Corned beef pie is on the specials then that is a must!! The atmosphere is welcoming, friendly and that goes for the customers and the staff and the owner/chef is a great guy!

I had seen this place on passing, and stopped off to try it this week. There are brick steps leading down to the very pretty cafe. On entering I noticed slightly low ceilings but not an issue for my 6' partner. The cafe is welcoming and cosy, the staff/owners polite and efficient. The pannini with melted brie, bacon and cranberry was delicious, as was the dark hot chocolate. The cafe is clean and bright, with an outside seating area. I felt transported from the hustle and bustle of town.

We came here at the spur of the moment for something to eat and to get out of the freezing cold. Quiet, cosy and great service. We were impressed with our paninis as they were amazing and had lots of filling. This is a great place to go eat and get away from the rapidly declining high street!

We often take a long stroll round the town centre, stopping off for coffee. Trouble was we had usually had our coffee by the time we reached St Giles Garden Cafe - and we keep saying we should make a point of trying it. Saturday we had cause to be up that end of Abington Street, so made a point of trying the cafe and were delighted with what we found. Loved sitting in the back patio in the sunshine. Lovely service and great food. Great value. A very pleasant tasty lunch.

Tucked away down the steps at No.1 St Giles Terrace it is too easy to miss this 'gem of a cafe'. Excellent decor and service backed up with some delicious food and cakes that made me salivate (never mind those calories). I've been here before and this time the whole experience was even better and I shall return on my next visit into the 'ghost town' that Northampton is seemingly becoming. Keep up the good work folks and I look forward to seeing you soon.

I can not understand why Patricia has spent so much time moaning about a cup of coffee. We go to The Garden Coffee virtually every day for lunch after 2pm and have several cups of coffee, if you want a strong coffee all you need to do is ask Trevor who is very obliging. It is a small café so they need to take the money in the busy times which is between 12 & 2 therefore I quite understand why they will not serve just coffee during this time. We have tried many cafes in the area and quite honesty The Garden Café is the best for home made food, & service. But ha ho each to there own.

I so wanted to love this place. I was recommended by a guy called Jeff …..well. My first experience was....I couldn't get a coffee with someone who had flown in from Spain that day....we couldn't have a coffee between 12 and 2 as they were serving lunch. No worries. We left and had a lovely (proper coffee) in the Italian coffee shop Fish Street, Opposite costa. Thought fair enough....it is their busy time. Took a lady who spends a lot of time in Portugal for a coffee today. The coffee was awful.....quite sad really as I had said it was a great place to go. The food I am sure is lovely but having been to coffee in Spain, France and other places in Europe …..it wasn't gutsy enough. Why not start buying proper coffee around your corner in St Giles Street. Also please do try going overseas...where coffee always tastes good. Unfortunately,, us Brits can make great coffee at home but pay for wishy washy coffee in these places of accolade. Concerned that we were asked to pay on arrival of the coffee......sign of the times I guess. Remember …..trust is love. Please go and buy great coffee mins walk from you and brew it like it should be. You have a great garden and staff are lovely so.....no excuses not to have beautiful coffee. Advice not criticism. Will come back in a month to "taste the difference" xx

St Giles Garden Cafe is a lovely place relax, have a nice meal & drink with your friends, family or business. A good friend showed me & now I go there 98% for bit to eat whenever I’m in town. Always welcoming, friendly, great sense of humour & lovely food, fresh. The jacket potato are worth what you pay for, they are big & soft. I often have chilli, I’m funny with how chilli tastes but with honestly it is lip smacking delicious 👍 Also honestly I have bring 4 people to the Giles Cafe at different times, they enjoyed it & have told me they have came back with family/friends. Great place, if I could I give them more than 5 stars of excellent

I’ve been working at the hospital and walked past this place for years - never really getting any further than wondering what is down the stairs.... Today I found out - and was very impressed! A delightful little cafe with a pleasant covered and heated outside area serving decent honest home cooked meals and snacks with fresh good quality ingredients at a reasonable price! What more could you ask for!! We all enjoyed paninis with various fillings served with side salad and crisps all priced around £5-6 - we were very pleased indeed and cleared our plates! The homemade cakes looked delicious though sadly we were too full to sample them on this occasion. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we shall certainly be back - I would urge others to not just walk by and wonder what’s down the stairs - why not go down and have a look - you won’t be disappointed!!

Having been blessed with a nice sunny day we wanted somewhere in town for a light lunch where we could sit outside.... luckily our first choice was suet (this would also have been us trying out somewhere 'new' to us , at least), so we struck out for the St Giles Garden Café. We both chose the quiche and salad, with a soft during; service was efficient; the quiche ad salad were very tasty, and good value.Beware though - the garden is off the basement flat and the staircase may not be suitable for very young or old.

I found this place through a google search, of all things. Me and my mum were meeting for lunch and were sick of the constant failings of Wetherspoons. A search for nice cafés near me resulted in this place popping up. Despite living in Northampton for 8 years now, I'd never even heard of it!The outside is unassuming. Just a small sign and a board on the wall. You descend down a flight of stairs and enter what feels like what used to be someone's home, but this is not a bad feeling at all. It's small, and quaint, not something you're used to seeing in Northampton at all! The doors were open to let the garden air in but it was too cold to sit out there, unfortunately.I had a fantastic home made salmon and asparagus quiche with some fantastic fresh salad and new potatoes. My mum had a panini, also served with a lovely salad, and crisps. The food was fantastic, fresh and delicious. The folks working there - who I assume at least one of were owners - were bright and friendly. The other family in there seemed to be regulars. There was a light and easy banter going on. The whole place was fantastic.I followed my meal with a delicious fresh berry scone with clotted cream and jam.In short; delicious, home made food, a lovely environment. A slightly small café, not great for large parties but fantastic for a couple of people out for lunch.

Myself and friends had a day out in Northampton yesterday and we wanted to find a nice little independent cafe/tea room. After looking online we found St Giles Garden cafe and we were so pleased we did. As it was a sunny day so we were able to sit in the garden which was a real sun trap and you wouldn't think it was next to busy high street. We had paninis and salads and the food was lovely with good portion sizes and not over priced. The staff were very friendly and the facilities were nice and clean.

OK, it's not on the main road but that is why it is worth finding.Located just off Abington St and on an old terrace of Northampton homes now mostly converted the Cafe is down a short flight of steps and is a bit 'Tardis' like. Once inside you realise what an oasis this really is - the inside area is plenty big enough but there is an outside area - they call it their Courtyard Garden - that just about doubles the seating area.We visited on a warm sunny day and chose to sit outside in the garden. Comfortable seats and tables make it a pleasant enough experience BUT we suddenly realised that here we were in the centre of town and there was no noise - it was just pleasantly peaceful - we could actually talk without raised voices. The menu is more than adequate for a Cafe and the service was faultless. Pricewise it certainly won't break your bank and we thought it was very much a case of value for money - the portions were generous to say the least. We shall be going back on our next regular trip to Northampton.

This little cafe is hidden away but is located opposite St. Giles Street Music shop. There is a sign on the pavement for St. Giles Garden Cafe.Walk down some steps to the basement entrance and into a little cafe with a lovely garden courtyard. This little sun trap of a garden is tastefully laid out. Service was friendly, food was good. All homemade. The bread/ panini's we were advised are supplied by the local Adams Bakers Group. The menu included homemade soup, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, afternoon teas, quiche, homemade cakes, etc. Fruit teas, green teas, coffee, even my choice of hot water with fresh lemon.Everything you'd expect at such a wonderful, quaint cafe.Well worth a try!!!!

I declare an interest from the start, in that my sister works part-time at St Giles Garden Cafe, and it was on her recommendation that I visited recently (when she wasn't working there) to take my mother out for lunch. I was glad I did.You find the cafe behind elegant railings, down a short flight of steps. It reopened last year after a change of ownership and refurbishment and bears little or no resemblance to the former cafe. All the dishes are freshly made on the premises. I had the broccoli and salmon quiche (£5.95) and my mum had the home-baked ham (£5.50), each with a good and varied side salad. My quiche had fine pastry, not too thick or heavy, and the filling was very light but full of flavour. I also managed to snaffle some of the ham from my mum, and it was delicious - cut good and thick, not too salty and very tender.I had a black coffee and Mum a pot of tea, both were very good. The decor is simple and elegant and service friendly and efficient and there were plenty in when we were there, full in fact. When the weather picks up there is also a courtyard garden in which to eat.A smashing place and decent value, especially given that it's good, home-cooked food.Yes, as I say, my sister does work there, but had it been rubbish I would simply not have written a review. However, I can write this with a clear conscience and I wish owner and chef Trevor all the very best, because a place such as this deserves to flourish.
