TERRIBLE - lack of advertised facilities and a manager who does not care there is an issue or how this might affect customers. Attended for a family meal. The establishment knew there was a baby in attendance (high chair in place and when ordering the manager even offered a small plate for the little one which was a nice touch).drinks arrived promptly and were nice. All downhill from here though unfortunately. Meals came but our daughter needed changing.my wife went to the “baby changing facilities” in the toilet to find there were non there. When she asked where they were the staff informed us that there weren’t any.no alternative option on a chilly December day. No explanation for lack of their presence. The only option to us then was to change our child in the car in the car park. When done we proceeded with our meal.beef a little dry but extra gravy was provided when requested (little provided initially).my wife’s lamb was tough. Veg mash and roasties tasty enough. The waitress apologised but we asked to speak to a manager after we had finished our meals and we were paying.when he came out I asked how long the baby changing facilities had not been in place.he advised that a child that was too heavy had been placed on the unit and it had broken. I pointed out that this did not answer my question and he said this was not relevant. To me if it was as a day or two - ok maybe they had not been able to do anything.after a few days though, the odd sign or when booking and knowing a child is with the party or seeing them on entry (as he had done here) inform the party.nothing of the sort happened or was attempted. The manager seemed to think it was for the parents to check on their facilities before attending.we knew they were supposed to have them, we aren’t sure how we are meant to be kept up to date on their lack of maintenance. It’s something we could not realistically be expected to be aware of. Looking at some other reviews it appears that others have had similar issues with these facilities around 6 months ago.given the managers refusal to discuss the time they had not been functional I can only assume it is a long standing issue which, from his attitude,I wouldn’t expect would change any time soon. Wouldn’t advise anyone with a small child needing such facilities to attend.i felt sorry for the staff as they apologised when the person who should have been apologising did not seem to care at all. The manager needs to reconsider how to deal with matters such as this as his response was disgusting and dismissive

We ended up in Newark feeling very hungry, having found the A17 from Norfolk surprisingly void of good cafes. Not been to Newark before and, I'll be honest, the first place we tried, so I can't compare with what's around. However, what we wanted was a place that did a sensible (not too fancy, not too greasy spoon) vegetarian breakfast god coffee and was dog friendly. We had the vegetarian and vegan breakfasts. The veg sausages were particularly good and we all left satisfied and full. We're sticklers for a really good coffee and this was definitely firmly in the good coffee category. Friendly service, really quick and you can see them cooking in the kitchen. The Quiches for the day we're being baked and if we come back, we'll give them a try for sure.

Atmosphere very sombre, hard to have conversation due to it being very silent. Service very slow, felt like I was a child being told when to go for the carvery. All staff including managers don't know how to provide service with a smile, very miserable. Cutlery blunt, struggled to cut through especially the very tough beef, gravy was like water and the cauliflower cheese needed armbands as the sauce was also very runny, possibly powdered. Plates are tiny and can't fit much on, Toby carvery is definitely a better option. Also only accepts card, wanted to split the bill and that seemed like a chore

I've stayed here quite a few times over the years and I absolutely love this place, the rooms are lovely and very well equiped, including everything you need for a continental breakfast in your room. The pub is really friendly and the food is always excellent, especially Sam's home made steak pie.

I really hate writing this review but was so dissatisfied with our food that I feel I need to warn others We decided to stop on our way home from work. The husband had gammon, egg and chips and I had chicken breast with Brie and brandy:cream sauce The husbands was swimming in grease with frozen chips, mine was shredded chicken (not breast) in a greasy sauce with frozen roasties and veg that had been on the boil all week I had a couple mouthfuls of mine but couldn’t eat any more It cost us £43.70 - including 2 drinks We will not be returning which is such a shame as we thought this could be our go to place for food locally

Stopped here in way back from Cumbria, just needed a Sunday lunch haha, and this was a lovely lunch, I think some of the interia is dated and could do with a luck of paint, but the food that comes out is perfect (which is what your there for haha ) service was good to, will definitely stop again to sample other things in the menu

Birthday luncheon, we hadn't planned to come here, we met a butcher at Rutland show, he had just opened a bistro in Sherwood, unfortunately is was not open today. Being probably the hottest day of the year I did not want to travel too far, we have seen Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the on dinners in the restaurant. I found the chairs a little too low and not quite supportive. Starters which we share were salmon wasabi pea puree and fennel citrus sperified balls, absolutely fantastic then chorizo cumberland and a wonderfully cooked egg. Mains, fried pulled pork and a sousvide steak, I had to try it because I sousvide at home, however I felt that it lacked taste and was a little dry. the tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. dessert was to die for, basil cheesecake with micro lemon balm Definitely be back to ravage the a la carte menu

Great friendly place. Fabulous food, good prices and lovely staff. They couldn't have made us feel more comfortable. Definitely going to visit again.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. All the staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was good - nice to have a pianist playing while we ate. However the vegan version of the roast dinner wasn’t great. There was a nut roast listed on the website menu however when we got there it had been replaced by a different option. It was a spiced cauliflower patty which tasted good but didn’t fit on a roast dinner IMO. We were told that the mash wasn’t vegan so we would get extra roast potatoes instead, but we only got three small roasties each and when we queried this, we were told you usually only get two. The greens were inconsistent; I had a pile of kale while my cousin had green beans. The carrots and parsnips were rock hard (and cooked with honey so not truly vegan). The vegan dinner felt a bit measly compared to the others, with very little effort to substitute items or present a filling plate of food worth the price tag.
