Birthday luncheon, we hadn't planned to come here, we met a butcher at Rutland show, he had just opened a bistro in Sherwood, unfortunately is was not open today. Being probably the hottest day of the year I did not want to travel too far, we have seen Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the on dinners in the restaurant. I found the chairs a little too low and not quite supportive. Starters which we share were salmon wasabi pea puree and fennel citrus sperified balls, absolutely fantastic then chorizo cumberland and a wonderfully cooked egg. Mains, fried pulled pork and a sousvide steak, I had to try it because I sousvide at home, however I felt that it lacked taste and was a little dry. the tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. dessert was to die for, basil cheesecake with micro lemon balm Definitely be back to ravage the a la carte menu

Childrens meals were very good and this restaurant is certainly value for money. £16 for a 2 course meal of such high quality was unbelieveable. Just wish that we could go there more often.

Whilst promising much i have to say this is some of the worst over priced food i have ever eaten. Steak was £20+ and Poor with a capital "P". Special occasion for me and my wife but will not go again.

We've eaten at luanys resturant in Edwinstowe lots of times and have never been disappointed. Food is excellent quality and is presented beautifully. The early bird option is excellent value for money. We are going with family again in December for the Christmas Fayre with live entertainment---can't wait.

Must admit I wasn't especially looking forward to this 'special' evening. We have been to Launays many times but have avoided the soirée Savoyarde as didn't especially fancy the menu - room many mention of sausages for my liking........or so I thought! As usual the food was exceptional! The starter - sausage was absolutely lovely and was accompanied by a very unusual glass of chastagnou - chestnut aperitif with white wine. Second course, a 60s favourite, was cheese fondue with bread and a glass of chignin white wine bought, as is the norm, back from a small producer from Denis & Didier Berthollier - a real nice surprise. Third course came - braised pork, bacon, sausage and vegetables; didn't know what to expect but it was a delicious light bowl of gorgeous meat and lovely veg plus another glass of wine. Cheese next as is the French way (this is one of the things I like best about a set meal at Launays) and the then a lovely pear turnover accompanied by confiture du lait; a bit like caramelised condensed milk but gorgeous, gorgeous! Not sure if you can buy it here in the uk but I expect you can buy easily in France. The next 'thing' I hope. If you get the opportunity to go to Launays ....go! I'm confident you will not be disappointed. By the way, the meal was just under £40 inc the wine which is excellent value. Well done again Alain and Alison & team.........again!

We managed to book a table for the Brittany evening, whilst visiting the restaurant the week before. Included in the evening are some drinks, a couple of sparkling wines,a melon chardonnay, and a glass of cider. There were oysters to start, mussels,a fish soup, salted cod main dish, then on to Brittany cheese...followed by wonderful crepes. All this for just £35 each!Brilliant!,food was wonderful. As usual Alison and her staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We can't wait for the next French evening.

Visited Launay's on a Sunday Lunchtime for my birthday. The staff were very friendly and accommodating - even cooking an extra yorkshire pudding for my baby to nibble on. The food was excellent. Although there was a standard children's menu, my eldest daughter chose from the adults menu and they were happy to do half portions for her. Will definitely be going back again!

Launay's has been on the up for several years now. We've been a few times and each time has been successively better. Attentive staff - extremely welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere is bright, modern and entertaining with the occasional live music. The main dining room is always busy and tastefully decorated, though a raucous table - or one with young children - can be a little hard to ignore in such an environment - intimate dinners should be arranged for the smaller side room. The food is very good - the chefs clearly have some inspired ideas. Whilst the menu is enormous and very varied for a restaurant of this calibre, the complexity of dishes can sometimes seem a little forced. On our last visit I order a "salmon cigar" starter - a duck wrap in the shape of a cigar served in an ashtray with accompanying vanilla smoke; the comical presentation was genuinely funny and avant-garde, and thankfully the dish was delicious - anything less though and it would have come off as a disgusting gimmick. The cocktail menu is worth a note as it has similarly inventive drinks on it. A meal here is quite pricey but on the whole worth it and with good company a meal at Launay's is a perfect saturday night.

I have eaten several times in this restaurant and never had a poor meal yet. There are several different priced options for menus. You "pays yer money and takes yer pick" Don't look for piled up plates. It won't happen. What you do get is adequate , good quality and well presented. Staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Alain, the chef often comes out if the kitchen at the end of the evening and greets his customers and gets "feed back". Happy to recommend this restaurant, as I will most certainly be back (and I love garlic!!)

Went for Sunday lunch with family. All the staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was good - nice to have a pianist playing while we ate. However the vegan version of the roast dinner wasn’t great. There was a nut roast listed on the website menu however when we got there it had been replaced by a different option. It was a spiced cauliflower patty which tasted good but didn’t fit on a roast dinner IMO. We were told that the mash wasn’t vegan so we would get extra roast potatoes instead, but we only got three small roasties each and when we queried this, we were told you usually only get two. The greens were inconsistent; I had a pile of kale while my cousin had green beans. The carrots and parsnips were rock hard (and cooked with honey so not truly vegan). The vegan dinner felt a bit measly compared to the others, with very little effort to substitute items or present a filling plate of food worth the price tag.

Four very nice meals. We had a rib eye steak, pie of the day, vegetarian wellington, & liver & bacon. Well presented & served with a smile. Waited about 25 minutes - good time for fresh tasty food. Followed by sticky toffee pudding & cheesecakes. Nothing left on plates! Clean throughout with ample close by parking. Thank you. Very reasonable prices. Will return.
