The Plough in Newark and Sherwood

Yet another fabulous Sunday roast!

We visit England quite frequently to see our family and the Plough is our first stop. It's your classic English pub. Lots of friendly locals, great food, and an even better atmosphere. It's absolutely our favourite and I'm sure if you're looking for a good time and a good vibe, this is the hidden gem you've been looking for! 💎 10/10 recommend a drop in!

Well it's nice to go in a traditional pub that serves home cooked food and isn't part of a chain. There is no TV in this establishment either another plus in my book and a landlord who makes all his customers feel welcome. Although it's not a huge menu there is plenty of dishes to suit most palates they have fish, steaks, homemade pies, homemade lasagne, traditional roasts plus other things and a varied selection of deserts. If your in the area pop in and give it a try plenty of parking round the back and an outdoor seating area.

Superb village pub, excellent food and service

Regularly attend for the bar and pool table. Not experienced dining service here. Always a friendly welcome from all the staff and a lively atmosphere. The plough hosts a good choice of bar drinks and a good table for a quick game of pool. Would recommend.

Utterly rude pub, customers getting angry because I sat "in their favourite seat" (very angry Scotsman helping himself to beer from the pumps).

Yet another amazing Sunday lunch! Good atmosphere, good beer and always great food. The staff are friendly, especially Bubbly Bob. Highly recommend.

You can't fault The Plough. From the staff to the food it is all excellent. A proper pub. The Sunday lunch was a lovely home cooked meal.

Well what a delight this place is!!! June and Rob were the perfect hosts. The atmosphere is one of friendly fun. The food was served in a very timely manner, it was piping hot and very tasty. The value for money was incredible. This pub is somewhere I will return to again and again!!!

After a visit to the Halifax bomber area we opted for a drink in the Plough. Lovely atmosphere and welcome, instantly feeling ‘at home’ beer was good too.

Don't recall having visited The Plough before but on entering felt immediately positive. Welcoming staff, a sense of other customers enjoying themselves and generally just a good vibe. Good choice of beers and the food was of outstanding quality and outstanding value. Thanks for making lunchtime special today. Will definitely return and recommend.

Went for an evening meal as my wife was out with friends. I had the fish and chips. Excellent. Will definitely visit again.

Great local pub that does a great pint of Guinness. The food is proper old school pub food and what it does, it does very well. When it says homemade, it really is homemade - not made in some factory somewhere. The fish and chips are standout with really good batter and a big piece of haddock that is plenty for lunch. For the hungry horses amongst you, go for the mixed grill and congratulations if you manage to polish all of that off. And then, there are your typical pub desserts of various crumbles, sponges, cheesecake. And if you fish or mixed grill aren't your thing, try a homemade pie by June. PS. my photo of the fish is an option without chips.

If you had wonderful food but terrible service would you go back? So, I regularly take my 89 year old mum, who has Dementia, for Sunday lunch. Bob and his team are beyond brilliant in every way, from genuine kindness to preparing a special meal that she likes but is not on the regular menu. I am able to relax and enjoy my day with her too. What is truly exceptional is that this welcome, service is the norm at the Plough in Farnsfield ... and the food is pretty good too!! Hearty portions, robust and served with care and love. Not sure how one could improve on that!

Six of visited today for lunch and I can honestly it was a brilliant experience the staff are friendly and efficient,the landlord is a proper old fashioned pub landlord and made our experience special ,the beer is lovely and the food superb,the portions are very generous too ,we can’t wait for our next visit,thank you so much

Fabulous oldy worldy pub with beams and brass everywhere. Cosy and very friendly/welcoming. Living local visit regularly and every visit the same. Food, fantastic we have tried several different dishes, mostly home made. Absolutely delicious Fish and chips, Mixed grill, mince pie, steak and kidney pie. No shortage of choice. Function room, bar, pool room, beer garden, take your pick. Well done Bob great visit every time.

Dropped in for a drink during a walk. Quick look at the menu and decided to eat. A good hearty meal and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Half way through a walk we called in for a beer. Finished up having two drinks and lunch......who could resist a choice of four pies as well as a pretty varied menu!! Staff all very friendly and, in spite of it being empty when we arrived, it felt welcoming and warm.....and soon started to fill up. Lovely pub! Try it!!

Watched England’s match against Spain 😞 Then went into the restaurant side for lunch, I ordered Sunday roast, Beef, it was all good, probably a bit too much gravy , lots of veg, couldn’t finish it, so didn’t manage pud, but they did sound good, “dad” Was a character 😂 a traditional English boozer!

I’d give it 10 stars if I could! Food homemade and very good price. Nice drinks, clean glasses and really friendly welcoming staff. Clean pub, lovely decor and outside seating areas. Dog friendly.

Wake after a Memorial Service. Food displayed on one side of the room. Several flies wandering around over the spread. Pork pie excellent!

Vast choice of food on the Menu at reasonable prices. Even the pickiest eater could find something on there! My Roast Beef meal was lovely & my partner said his Roast Beef & Gravy Cob was great! Nice atmosphere & good service, but pub was a bit cold; bit more heating would have been nice.

Your typical village pub. Seems popular for food as a lot of tables were reserved. Stopped in for a couple of drinks after a long hike.

Having read the previous reviews I wonder if we are talking about the same establishment. 6 adults looking for Friday lunch, totally ignored at the bar by the licencee. Having waited almost 10 minutes for him to speak to us we left and went to the Lion up the road and spent £140 with them. Just not acceptable, especially as we went there on a recommendation about the establishment providing excellent food.
