The Old Plough Inn in Newark and Sherwood

This was a wonderful find and I have been back on a number of occasions. The food is amazing and the staff and atmosphere is brilliant. The sad note to this is that it is closing soon and we will be missing yet another excellent pub due to lack of custom. I’ll be very sad to see the end of yet another amazing establishment.

The best Sunday dinner and the best salmon I have ever eaten in any restaurant as it is cooked fresh, not kept heated up and the little half moon dish of several vegetables is always a highlight for me - scrumptious!

Overall we were very satisfied with the meal. Prices I would say are slightly more than your normal pub nothing outrageous these days. Plus point was mains were served piping hot on hot plates. So many pubs gets this wrong. I have seen a couple of reviews saying the staff were over keen but we found them attentive and there when you needed them. A very good experience and will go back

What an amazing place where attention to detail is clearly front of mind - after being delayed by an hour due to traffic, the staff kept the table and didn’t complain at all. The staff are amazing, the food is out of this world, we have a few starters and a variety of main meals polished off with champagne. Thanks all - we will be back.

My husband and I visited the Old Plough Inn at the weekend and what a beautiful place it is! From the minute we walked in the staff could not have been more helpful and attentive. Were were not kept waiting to be seated and our drinks were bought as soon as ordered so we could have a drink whilst perusing the menu!! The food was absolutely delicious; you could tell it was freshly home cooked and the family atmosphere was lovely! We would not hesitate in going back and will definitely be returning very soon! My first visit to the Old Plough Inn and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The home cooked food was fantastic and all the staff and owners were so friendly and attentive, couldn’t fault any of it. The atmosphere was lovely and it’s such a beautiful pub. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back!

Bit disappointed in our meal at The Plough last night Highlights: Cod prawn and salmon mornay was tasty; lamb and turkey were good and sticky toffee pudding also nothing to complain about. Low points: starters were small and quite pricey; food was slow to come out even though they weren’t that busy, and servers were constantly at the table interrupting conversations to ask if we wanted more drinks, clear glasses, check everything was ok; apples undercooked and bitter in the crumble and the crème brûlée was the worst I’ve ever tasted ( strange orange colour, odd texture , little flavour and far too sweet)

Quite wait for food to arrive. Wine came straight away. The wait could bother some but it didn't bother us. Big portions. Food very hot when it arrived which is a must for me. Asked for extra gravy came with lunch. Staff very good. Desserts were delicious

We visited last night for a meal on our mini break to the area. I have to say I WILL most definitely be returning! We had the most perfect experience here, the food was really very good and plentiful, the staff very attentive, nothing was too much trouble at all. I would highly recommend the Steak and Guinness pie from the menu... Very nice. It's been a while since we have had a meal out as good as this was, 5 stars but would happily give more if there was an option Thank you to all staff at the Old Plough Inn, Egmonton.

Arrived for pre arranged booking, with no where to wait, asked to wait outside. 45 minutes later( after several reminders we were there) on a sunny but cold afternoon invited to a table . Food served after another 45 minutes from a then limited menu.

We came here for the first time as a family party of 7 for an evening meal to celebrate my wife’s recent birthday. Atmosphere and decor is cosy but classy. Staff were welcoming and attentive. Service was quick. Good choice of real ales and other drinks. Menu has just the right amount of choice and range of dishes in my opinion - something for everyone! We all had starters, mains and puddings and we all agreed that the food was outstandingly good. I had one of the best sirloin steaks ever, with a fantastic Stilton sauce. The presentation of the dishes was also to a high standard. We will definitely be returning and I highly recommend it. Thanks for a lovely evening!

Wonderful Sunday lunch . Was a recommendation and didn’t disappoint.

Great place to eat, Our daughter has dietary requirements the staff were accepting and accommodating of this which allowed her to take part in a family day out without the worry of having to feed her separately. Our server is always helpful, attentive and nothing is ever to much trouble for them. Food was great, hot and fresh, delivered quickly to the table with minimum of fuss , drinks were refilled quickly on request. A great place for families with children, evening out with friends a special occasion or anything else .

Me and my partner came for his birthday tonight, wow is all I can say! The decor is lush, the staff were lovely, always checking everything was OK. The calamari was so nice, we both opted for pie and this was so filling. Along came our deserts - choc brownie and ice cream, and sticky toffee pudding, these were amazing! There's a huge gin menu too, I cant understand the negative review, its clear that they are typical moaners as there's not one nice thing to say in their review. Try this place for yourself, you won't regret it :)

Nice setting. Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate mum's birthday. Positives - waiting staff are young adults and very polite and attentive. Nice wine glasses and nice wine served at the correct temperature .Negatives - food is bland. Tables are too small. We were crammed in a table for 6 people with 4 adults and 2 older children.

Warm welcome, extraordinary food, amazing hosts! From the minute we stepped into this tastefully decorated old inn we knew we had made the right choice. Outstanding menu and food. A birthday celebration for the three of us was made extra special by a genuinely attentive team of staff and family owners. The venue was perfect, cosy without being too close to other diners, and comfortable furnishing and impeccable loos. We had travelled some distance so were glad to be able to book ahead and received a lovely welcome despite arriving earlier than our booking. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this lovely family-run venue.

Really lovely country pub. Food was 5* and very reasonably priced. Lovely staff and great service. The only thing that let it down was that it wasn’t dog friendly. So our pooch had to stay in the car. Was surprised for a rural country pub.

What a fantastic find! We were looking for a Sunday roast on our way North. Saw this was just off our route. We were lucky and they had space. Perfect location, stunning food, plenty of it. All served with faultless charm in a bright, clean environment. Would strongly recommend to anyone. ❤️❤️❤️

Lovely pub and atmosphere and amazing food.

Warmly welcomed, sat down in a lovely warm cosy room. The staff are exceptionally efficient and nothing is any trouble. The food choice was plenty and was well presented, even an extra jug of gravy and cauliflower cheese to add to the already well portioned meals. This is a great place to eat as a couple or with family and friends. Booking is recommended as It was full, however the service never falted even though busy. The manger is lovely and the staff clearly enjoy working for her. Will definitely be returning soon. Thanks for looking after us. delicious

Came here early evening today with friends and the staff were really welcoming and warming who served us. Credit to all of them and would recommend coming here for drinks or food. Without a doubt,one of,if not the best Sunday lunch I've had in many years. Beautifully cooked fresh food and plenty of it too. Would highly recommend. All three courses were absolutely perfect. Staff were friendly and polite and the atmosphere was excellent

We was planning on going to the Dovecote inn, but we got such a dreadful welcome from "feral" locals who was having an altercation with "outsiders". One of the locals was armed with a knife!! Anyway normality was resumed when we arrived at this truly lovely pub. We was well cared for by friendly staff and had a memorable meal Thank you.

Just had the most amazing meal here. Made complete pigs of ourselves as there were so many lovely items on the menu. Really can't recommend this place enough. If I could give ten stars. I would. Without a doubt. Thanks to all for the best meal out we have had in ages.

Good tucker and good Sunday roast

Literally just ate there for Sunday Lunch!! Best sunday dinner I've had in a long time!! Vegetables cooked perfectly, and the beef was so succulent!! All 3 of our dinners were equally as good. Staff are great, and efficient. Great experience will return.

When the menu says whale, trust me you get a piece of fish the size of a whale. It was the best fish I have ever had, compliments to the chef it was amazing.
