Another ‘pre match’ lunch in Gannets, on our way to Leicester. Classic potato skins were fantastic as ever but I tried the blueberry Bakewell tart as dessert for something new/different. You’d think it was impossible to improve a Bakewell tart, otherwise it would have been done… Well Gannets improved it, absolutely delicious. Still great food, genuinely home made on the premises and lovely, helpful staff.

We stopped here for an early lunch while visiting Newark, and was very impressed with the food and the friendly staff. The vegetarian Quiche and salad were enjoyed by us both, fresh and delicious. We had a pot of real tea, and a slab of raspberry and limoncello cake to follow, can’t fault any of it. Will definitely return.

I've just walked out of Gannets after having breakfast with the family. And it utterly delicious. No cheap imitation sausages at Gannets, just gorgeous peppery Lincolnshire porky tubes of sumptuousness. The bacon was chunky, tasty and thoroughly enjoyable. Poached eggs cooked to perfection, yolk oozing over the muffin with eggy glee. Divine. No tiny thimbles of coffee either, just nice bowls of caffeine filled joy. For an affordable, tasty breakfast that you won't want to end, you can't go wrong here. Fabulous.

Went to Gannets to try as never been there. Myself and my son went and I ordered two big breakfasts with two coffees. Price. £23. What we received was without doubt the most odd and disgusting breakfast I have ever had the displeasure of being served. The breakfast. One sausage which was not bad. Two slices of bacon that could have been off a guinea pig, a large portion of mushrooms that tasted like tinned mushrooms (though this could have just been the horrible sauce they were boiled in, which was disgusting) poured onto a bread like bun, and one poached egg. I cannot imagine where they got their idea of a large full English breakfast, but this wasn't one of those and no warning was given that I would not receive what I believed I was ordering. Overall experience was bad enough for me to leave my first review ever. Would not recommend.

We often visit Gannets walk the dog and pop in for coffee cake brunch Sunday breakfast it’s one of our favourite places. It’s always excellent always busy and always consistent. Hence we keep coming back- unbeknown to the staff today was our wedding anniversary 15 years ago we had our reception at Cafe Blu a restaurant which used to be opposite. Today our day was made special by Beth a member of staff who always has a smile and is a consummate professional- she seems cool under pressure and today she went out of our way and it felt special to us. I think people forget to thanks people when it’s always good. So Thankyou Gannets and Beth for for a lovely lunch great service and going the extra mile- the left over pavlova didn’t go to waste😉🤣

I want to start this review by saying I am usually a very fussy eater. I have alot of anxiety/stomach issues which makes choosing somewhere to eat a bit of a debate between me and my Mum. We stumbled upon this cafe purely out of chance and from the outside it doesn't seem anything special...until you get inside. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They had a variety of specials on the board and I chose homemade lasagna and garlic bread and my mum chose the quiche and salad. Portion sizes were hearty. The lasagna was definitely homemade, with a hint of rosemary and piping hot, the garlic bread was a very generous portion. Mums slice of quiche was also generous as was her 'side' salad which could well have been a dish on its own (she loved the it all). The good food was obviously the highlight but they also had a little secret extended outdoor eating area, it was glorious weather and it was like eating in a Secret Garden.

Been a couple of times to this lovely little cafe and I've enjoyed each visit. On previous occasions I have enjoyed the lunches there but this time I just opted for a scone and a pot of tea. The tea is traditional and very tasty and is a lovely touch. The scones were delicious and accompanied by clotted cream and jam I was very happy. There are always a variety of options when it comes to what appears to be home cooked dishes and also cakes. The is always presented well and very tasty. My only grumble would be the cost as it isnt cheap and the lunches can appear a bit steep. I guess its homemade and quality food so probably justified. Just a bit more than I like to spend on lunch. But generally a lovely cafe with a cosy atmosphere and also allowed our dog into the back area or the restaurant.

We live in Darlington but have relatives in Newark so we visit 3 or 4 times a year and we go to GANNETS everytime. It is quite simply the best cafe I have ever been to and I've been to a lot. Everything is homemade and fresh and there are daily specials so the mains menu changes everyday. I tried to count how many dessert/cake options there were on our last visit and I got to 15 then gave up. They have their regular cakes etc. but there is always something new to try even if you go every week. The carrot cake is the best in the UK - FACT! There are loads of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options but they are all just part of the menu and not a 'oh well, I'll have to have that' option, they're all delicious. Situated opposite Newark castle is this great place to eat. Having visited very often over many years, I have never had cause to complain in any way. Friendly well organised staff and a great selection of food with a changing menu. The seating area looks small from outside but just goes on inside and upstairs. also a small outside courtyard area. we visited spur of the moment for a spot of lunch and both fancied the ham hock cassoulet. it was great full of flavour, served with Garlic bread a feast in a bowl. There is always a nice selection of cake and desserts as well. Its not the cheapest place to eat but absolutely value for money. I would recommend a visit, one practical note on a windy day avoid sitting just inside the door it can be quite cool, as the door is constantly opening due to high footfall. well done all at Gannets great food and service yet again. we will certainly be back.

Gannets is a precious little jewel on Castle Gate. A beautiful little cafe/bistro with healthy home cooked foods served by bright and engaging staff. Great material and personal service from a team who take pride in producing quality food. Lovely breakfasts and lunches.

We regularly go to Gannets and again it did not disappoint. With all the food exceptionally fresh we had a lasagne with garlic bread, veg lasagne with fresh salar and kids pasta all of which were excellent.

From the moment we walked through the door the staff were so friendly and welcoming! We visited as a large group with children, and we were given a large room to ourselves to relax in. The waiting staff were excellent and the food was fantastic. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

Birthday luncheon, we hadn't planned to come here, we met a butcher at Rutland show, he had just opened a bistro in Sherwood, unfortunately is was not open today. Being probably the hottest day of the year I did not want to travel too far, we have seen Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the on dinners in the restaurant. I found the chairs a little too low and not quite supportive. Starters which we share were salmon wasabi pea puree and fennel citrus sperified balls, absolutely fantastic then chorizo cumberland and a wonderfully cooked egg. Mains, fried pulled pork and a sousvide steak, I had to try it because I sousvide at home, however I felt that it lacked taste and was a little dry. the tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. dessert was to die for, basil cheesecake with micro lemon balm Definitely be back to ravage the a la carte menu

Went for Sunday lunch with family. All the staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was good - nice to have a pianist playing while we ate. However the vegan version of the roast dinner wasn’t great. There was a nut roast listed on the website menu however when we got there it had been replaced by a different option. It was a spiced cauliflower patty which tasted good but didn’t fit on a roast dinner IMO. We were told that the mash wasn’t vegan so we would get extra roast potatoes instead, but we only got three small roasties each and when we queried this, we were told you usually only get two. The greens were inconsistent; I had a pile of kale while my cousin had green beans. The carrots and parsnips were rock hard (and cooked with honey so not truly vegan). The vegan dinner felt a bit measly compared to the others, with very little effort to substitute items or present a filling plate of food worth the price tag.

Four very nice meals. We had a rib eye steak, pie of the day, vegetarian wellington, & liver & bacon. Well presented & served with a smile. Waited about 25 minutes - good time for fresh tasty food. Followed by sticky toffee pudding & cheesecakes. Nothing left on plates! Clean throughout with ample close by parking. Thank you. Very reasonable prices. Will return.
