Went for the carvery Sunday lunch which is no longer available. Website needs to be updated. Meat and Yorkshire pudding was lovely, however the rest was not. Gravy was cold, veg cold and under cooked. The roasties were rock hard and over cooked. And any extras such as parsnips or cauliflower cheese were added extras at over £4 each. We will not be returning.

Well appointed pub with reasonably priced food. Avoid asking for extra gravy though as they decided to charge me £1 for the privilege without notifying before getting the bill. When I went to pay, I informed them I thought this was a bit cheeky but they did nothing about it… a real shame.

We did hear good reviews about this place in which the staff were friendly and food came in good time. However.... one of us had chicken curry in which there was only 2 very small pieces of chicken. Another was the Reindeer burger which was very bland. Lemon meringue for dessert and again non of us could taste any lemon. Wasn't too expensive but unfortunately won't be returning anytime soon.

Four cask ales when I visited. The IPA from the west country was lovely and I will call in again just for this. There is a fair size car park round the back, looked like it was reasonably busy serving food. Tables out the front.

Came back to the Old Reindeer after 2 years. Learnt that it had been taken over since the last time we came and for a split second we were concerned if it would be as good, but we need not have worried and not disappointed! Called in around 6pm on Tuesday evening with our dog. Excellent friendly service from barmaid who also served our food. We had fish & chips and gammon steak & chips. Both very good. We also called in the following afternoon for a pint after a long walk - sat in the beer garden (shame about the plastic grass but a comfortable area to the side of the pub). Inside, there are several different areas (one with a TV) including a section with leather sofas. Very attractive village pub with excellent friendly service - sorry we didn't ask the name of the barmaid to give her a proper mention.

Mediocre We were in the area so called for a roast dinner. The service was quick but the roast dinner was average readily plated up Definitely frozen mash & roasties huge yorkies , Turkey tender and veg ok but nothing spectacular £15 for large £13 for standard. Sadly the food took a long time to come and had items missing from 4 meals out of 7 (Kids meal last too). Elements of the food was really good. No service check and couldn’t catch the staff but did raise with them after the meal and £3 removed from the bill. The staff were pleasant but overwhelmed but the pub was not packed (Saturday night on a sunny bank holiday weekend with 2 staff is clearly not enough). A real shame as a good pub for a beer but not set up for any volume of food orders.

What a shame. Ruined by rude staff member. My family have been coming here for many years for birthday celebrations and previously had the most amazing experiences. I booked a table on Christmas Eve (three weeks in advance) and due to traffic on the day we realised we were going to be late so I tried phoning to advise this. The phone wasn’t answered. We arrived 10 minutes late where we were greeted by the rudest person (Tom - I was told he was called) I said we have a table booked, he responded, have you? Well, you’re late. I explained I tried phoning and he asked for my number where he proceeded to get the pub phone to check the call log. I showed him my own call log where I had attempted to phone to explain we were running a little late. He said well everything’s off in the kitchen so I’ll have to check with the chef. Whilst he was checking we decided this is not how we wanted to be treated and left to save us any further poor service. Disgusting attitude, rude and now I think we dodged a bullet as many more people have come forward to say avoid as it’s massively gone down hill!

In forty years of working in the catering industry this is without doubt the worst pub food and service I am willing to share. They had very few items on the menu available. The only vegetarian option was vegan but had dairy cream in it so not available. The so called pie, filling was fine, the pastry however was so hard it would have been a great lintel in any building. There was no salad available, but instead was offered peas to go with a sandwich. The staff could barely string a sentence together without swearing. Thourghly disappointed as this was to be a special occasion, 60th wedding anniversary. A that you should pass by, if you want to eat.

Very disappointed. We started and finished our walk from here and had pre ordered our lunches. The service was friendly but the food was terrible. My Pie of the Day was burnt and when I tried to cut into it, it shattered and part of it shot off the plate. The chicken burger was two very dry goujons on a dry bun fried in old oil with a poor salad garnish. The vinegar had dead flies in it and had old sediment in the bottom... this was replaced by vinegar which had started to bloom. Replacement condiments and sauces arrived just as we were finishing our meal. Please empty all your vinegar bottles and wash them out, constant topping up isn't sufficient. Two stars for the poor guy behind the bar. Sadly, we don't recommend and won't be returning.

We visited with our monthly walking group today and we had to preorder. I'd only eaten here once before. The carvery meat was dry and the Yorkshire pudding was hard as nails. My cornflake tart was microwaved with in an inch of its life. Today's experience was well below parr. I ordered the chicken burger. It was hot but 2 Diggers gougons on a dry brioche bun with no dressing and fries that were cooked in old oil was not pleasant. The gougons were dry and over cooked. What was worrying was the vinegar had flies in it and had gone cloudy and when we asked for a replacement that was as bad. I have no complaint about the waiter. He appeared to be on his own and was polite but we could tell he was slightly flustered. Thankfully it wasn't too expensive. Other than that the toilets were lovely and clean and the staff friendly. Maybe the cook was having a bad day but it is no excuse to have old, contaminated vinegar on the tables. Sorry, I don't think I will be returning.

I recently visited the Old Reindeer with a group of 16 after making a pre-booking. The experience was fantastic from start to finish. The highlight of the evening was the impeccable timing – all our meals arrived simultaneously. This made the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The two bar staff members were delightful and engaging, ensuring that we had a great time throughout the evening. They were attentive and added to the overall positive atmosphere. The food itself was a true delight. Each dish was delicious, and everyone in our group left feeling full and satisfied. It's evident that the kitchen staff takes pride in their craft, as every plate showcased quality and flavor. What added to the experience was the recent revamp of the Old Reindeer. The new decor gives the place a warm and welcoming feel, enhancing the overall ambiance of the restaurant. It was a pleasant surprise since our last visit. In conclusion, the Old Reindeer delivered an exceptional dining experience. This used to be our favourite Sunday lunch but today it was a shocking experience. The bar smelt of smoke, there was filth all over the floors, including food under the tables (though we were the first diners of the day) and litter on the tables. The paint on the walls is flaking off and there were toys laying around. We arrived with a toddler but weren’t offered a high chair and when we did get one it was filthy. The staff were wearing sports tops, trainers and trousers that showed their underwear when they bent down. I don’t think we got a smile the whole time we were there. The food itself was fine, hence the second star, but please don’t go expecting the lovely Reindeer of old!

First time back since last year. New owners only 3 weeks in but they are very friendly. We had a lunch time meal and the food excellent.

Called in for food for me and my work colleagues this morning, ordered three large sandwiches, on mine I asked for a menu extra which was black pudding. I got back to work and sat to eat my sandwich and found that the (approx.) 9" long bloomer had only two slices of bacon, two sausages and one piece of black pudding. Don't get me wrong, the food was hot, freshly cooked, and nice, but the issue was that there was too much bread and not enough filling. Come on guys, if you're charging for extras, then at least put more than one in. The single slice of black pudding was lost in the size of the sandwich. Just feel let down by what could easily be much better.

We were looking for sunday lunch whilst staying at local lodges and thought this place looked cute. Booking was easy enough. We were seated in an Alice in wonderland themed room which didn't look good. We all had a Sunday lunch, chicken, which was delicious. Dessert equally tasty. But so slow! The young staff were friendly, but too busy.
