Farndon Ferry in Newark and Sherwood

Absolutely lovely. Not been here for a while and glad we did. Service was outstanding and food was amazing.. To make it even better, they had an early bird special menu which was nice surprise. Highly recommend and a great location for summer drinks and walks.

Very nice place to visit on the bank of the River Trent. Went for breakfast and wasn't disappointed 😋. Will be going back in the near future.

Shocking!! Visited the Farndon Ferry during their discounted January and certainly won’t be returning. Frozen fish looks like it was cooked on a radiator. Mushy peas were like clay. Didn’t get no more than 10 chips. All four of us left unhappy - won’t be returning.

Reason for 3* was service a little slow in bringing order out plus the minted lamb in the menu said it was accompanied by vegetables (plural) yet meal served with vegetable (singular - carrots). Pricing was on a January promotion. Would not want to pay full price (£26) for the lamb. The restaurant itself is lovely and bar staff very personable so a pleasant lunchtime experience.

The Ferry is a lovely venue ,however I was rather disappointed today . The afternoon tea ,came out on individual plates ,rather than a centre piece ,so dis the cakes ,there wasnt much on the plate or in choice,same with the cakes two small cakes bitsite and a scone. It took until all our food was eaten before we even got a drink. I thought it was fairly poor value but i didnt want to upset the lady whos birthday it was. The sconces were lovely. The childrens meals were good value.

After a very bracing walk around the lakes and along the river bank we called in here for brunch. Open and friendly welcome from the staff - despite us being fairly muddy and windswept. Excellent brunch menu - veggie options for full breakfast or alternatives. Coffee/tea/smoothies etc. We tweaked the menu between us, so staff were very patient of us. We'll cooked, we'll presented - Excellent atmosphere - all great. Parking opposite the pub.

Called in for Sunday lunch nice place food was nice would call again

Lovely pub with an eating area tgat is dog friendly - including water and biscuits! Friendly service and a delicious menu. We will definitely be returning!

Outstanding Dining Experience at The Farndon Ferry We recently visited The Farndon Ferry for their Chateaubriand offering for four and were thoroughly impressed. The entire family, including our children, had a fantastic time. The quality of the food was impeccable. The sauces accompanying the Chateaubriand were exceptional, and the staff were wonderfully friendly and accommodating. When we requested some gravy for our daughter, who is notoriously picky about her gravy, they delivered a truly memorable experience—she ranked it among the top three gravies she's ever had! The desserts were equally delightful, with rich and indulgent puddings that provided the perfect finish to a great meal. This was an all-around brilliant experience for both adults and children. We highly recommend The Farndon Ferry and confidently rate it a ten out of ten!

Food nice but not amazing for the money, service okay but one waiter was rushing us and not that polite, atmosphere not great as needs some background music. Won't rush to return, a lot more places local to this which are a nicer alternative!

Went here for early dinner on New Years Eve. Arrived and was greeted by an older gentleman who i think may have been Spanish and maybe the manager or owner anyway he was very efficient and polite. We sat, we ordered, the starters came out in a timely manner. They were tasty enough. A couple more tables arrived by the time our mains arrived, and the bloke and another girl that had been setting up the other room when we arrived were doing fine god service so far. I noticed that 4 more staff had arrived by now 3 teenage girls and a young bloke, plus another 2 tables one in thd other room. We're ready for another drink by now and the older bloke is now serving someone in the other room. We look round and there is a gagle of girls hanging round the end of the bar chatting with their backs to the room. So after a lot of trying to catch their attention, one of them goes to another table with a tray of drinks and we get her as she goes past and at the same time ask her to clear the main plates. She asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu, to which we said yes. So 15 mins later I got up and went over to the gaggle of girls still chatting about god knows what maybe the latest Taylor Swift dress or something!!?? and got the dessert menus myself. They did come over to take the order and the desserts arrived. Pastry was soggy on my Chocolate tart but it tasted nice. When we were ready for the bill again backs to the customers my wife yji time got up and went to bar to ask for the bill where they were still chatting I'm sure not about that state of the economy!! The bill was brought over by the older chap who left us to look at the bill whilst he cleared the dessert plates cos the teenagers didn't have the initiative to do so themselves. The bill had 10% service charge on it which we did pat so as not to make a fuss, but it was grudgingly and only really because the bloke had done a good job. The food was good, tasty, the portion sizes were reasonable but I feel it was a little bit pricey, restaurant prices for what is essentially good pub food. But nothing wrong with yhe food it's self just the service once yhe older bloke was serving in the other room went down hill quickly. The boss could have saved himself 2 wages that night 6 staff only really 2 or 3 working. I won't be running back there soon, but I wouldn't say I'd never go back.

Food was great! Recently went for 2nd time as first experience was not great due to being so busy our order was not sent to kitchen but it was dealt with really well by staff.

Had a fantastic lunch here for my 60th Birthday - staff treated me like royalty and food was delicious!

Excellent meal. Felt a bit rushed towards the end. Don't like service charge being added to my bill. They did ask if we were OK with it but felt we couldn't say no. I will pay cash for my tip and not be told what I should pay. I work and dont get tipped and I also worked in the catering industry for years without tips.

Never been here before and my wife chose here as we like to try out places we've never been before and although this place was tucked away, we loved it. A lovely gem of a place, staff were friendly and welcoming, we chose the special (starter and main for £20, that with a pudding £25 I think), as it was my birthday, I went for the 3. My starter, main and pudding I couldn't fault. Absolutely lovely. Steak cooked to perfection. We went around 1pm so sat in the quieter part of the restaurant. Colby kept us entertained anytime he walked past us which made us laugh, Lilly was very friendly, welcoming and polite. Couldn't of asked for a better start to my birthday and would advise if you've not been there to give it a try. You'll pleasantly surprised.

Lovely place, booked for lunch, staff are so friendly & welcoming. They put water on the table when you sat down (they ask as they seat you) the steak I had was one of the best I've had in years and my Mums fish & chips had the most light & fluffy batter . The food was good value for money and excellent but the drinks were expensive.

We had our wedding here last Friday and it was just perfect. We had several meetings with Jane about what we wanted and all of the staff helped bring that to life. I could not recommend it any more, the food was incredible, nothing was too much of an ask and they couldnt do anymore for us. We had so many compliments regarding the food and venue. Everyone involved at the Fardon Ferry helped make our day perfect, we can't thank you all enough!!

First ever visit. Stopped by for lunch on the off chance. Food was good but what made our visit great was the superb service from Lizzie. WELL DONE LIZZIE!!

Lovely venue and great & friendly service. It was a Sunday and no steak on the menu ( Sunday lunch menu of course ) and I was craving a T-bone steak 🥩 onion rings and Stilton sauce - no worries though, the waiter offered to buy the chef a beer and in no time at all I was tucking into a medium rare T-bone steak- delicious 😋 … Fantastic service and made my day ! Anna had fish and chips which were also super tasty. Thanks Farndon Ferry team 🥳 we will return soon with the rest of the family now we’ve found you

We had our wedding here in August 2024, was absolutely amazing from start to end. Jane was brilliant supporting with the planning, Leonardo on the day making sure it all went smoothly and the entire bar staff (colby and the team - couldn’t get all their names), nothing was too much, all of our guests said the service they all experienced was top class. The food service by the skilled kitchen staff was just beautiful no complaints at all. So thankful we found this place for our special day! Thank you to the entire team x

A pretty extensive menu, with great British classics and really well done vegetarian options. Very personable and attentive staff. A lovely place to relax by the river.

On the day that we went poor planning let the place down. The staff were very understanding and trying their best and explained the situation and were lovely throughout, the food was good as well. However, poor planning from management meant that the place was understaffed and overfilled leading to very long wait times.

Excellent meal out at the Farndon Ferry. Great food and service. Staff really welcoming and catered to all of our requirements and were above and beyond in every way. I don’t drink alcohol so the mock tales were fab. Definitely worth a trip for any meal.

We celebrated my birthday at the Farndon Ferry on Bank Holiday Monday. There were 20 adults and 2 dogs and we had a fabulous time. All the meals were delicious, served at the same time, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and we never felt rushed to give the table up. Can’t fault Jane and her staff for making my birthday so relaxed and comfortable. They did a magnificent job keeping everyone happy and not a single negative comment from the whole of our group! Thank you so very much x

A great afternoon tea for 30 people with Tom Nicholson providing the live music. Perfect music, food, drink and service. We had the best afternoon party and would like to thank Tom Jane Leonardo and all the ferry staff very much indeed

Staff brilliant but food a bit slow to be served but was delicious. I wish there weren't dogs in the bar area as soon as you walk in. Partner is allergic to dogs and we both hate it when we are eating and hear a dog barking in the same room as happened whilst we were there.

Really enjoyed my visit here. Food was lovely, well presented, and well cooked. Staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. The atmosphere I can only describe as restaurant vibe with relaxing features, love the fairy lights, background music that was just loud enough to hear without being intrusive. All in all a great experience. I will be back again

I only had a snack as it was just a quick family get together, but the service was quick and friendly and what I had was nice. Going back in a couple of weeks for Sunday lunch. It's in a lovely setting too so will be lovely in the summer!

Went here for breakfast. 8 people and only 7 meals came out. Wondering where mine was and thought everybody is near on finished I asked and was told they forgot and it will be taken off the bill.when it came out the bacon was crispy the beans was cold the fried bread was dry and when I cut it it just smashed into bits.the toast was a normal thin slice from the bread bin where as everyone's was nice thick and fresh.it was burnt on 1 side and white on the other but the egg was lovely.i think they just forgot it was still in the kitchen. My wife told me not to complane as we was not getting charged for mine. Came to pay the bill of £75 pound and the waitress told us about a 10% service charge is normal. Obviously I didn't pay this but the transport got that when we left. Thanks

We had an amazing experience dinning here! There was a mistake with our table and we waited very long time for our food to arrive, however the manager came to our table to apologise for the inconvenience of being waiting a lot longer than all other costumers. She offered us 50% off of the total of our bill, this is what I think that is a 5 starts service, compensating the costumers appropriately for a mistake made by the restaurant. The food was delicious, from starters to mains, to desserts and also the drinks. Specially the vegetarian roast it was incredible. We were 8 people and everyone loved their food. All the staff is very friendly and polite. We had a great time, our table it was located by the window with a view of the river. We live in London but as soon as we have a change we certainly will be returning, we left with the feeling that we would love to try everything from the menu.

Not bad but Christmas dinner at £90 a head could have been better.

Breakfast this morning was brilliant :) we met up this morning with family and picked the farndon ferry as it was about half way between us both, very friendly staff and a great breakfast with great service , and thankfully the flooding had subsided so that the car park was usable:)

The food was fantastic, and the staff were very polite & helpful, when we could get hold of them. In a case of bad timing, we'd booked a table for 2 to have a quiet meal, but on the night of their Winter Ball, so the rest of the entire room we were in was one large, noisy group. This (& the DJ) meant it was hard to be heard, and although all of the staff were doing their best, it was hard for us to get their attention. I would go again, but I'd perhaps ring in advance to make sure it wasn't a big party night.

Table booked for 6.30 (included 5 children). Terrible service! After initial drink, no one came to see our if anyone wanted anymore drinks. No one asked if food was ok. Food was delayed. Main course came out in dribs and drabs. Some people had finished eating just as other people’s food arrived. The 3 courses took 3 hours!!! A few of our party had to leave before dessert as the kids were tired as it was so late. Food generally ok. Pudding - chocolate fondant was dry. When we got the bill and complained about all the issues, the manager literally said nothing and then walked off! No apology, no discount, no words!

We celebrated our wedding with 50 odd guests on Sat 25th Nov. The saff were brilliant. The food was amazing and the atmosphere just perfect. The table settings looked great. We had a very memorable, chilled day thanks to Dah, Jane and the team. Katie was especially attentive.

My lovely husband and daughters treated me to my 66th birthday lunch here today. If i could give more stars i would !!! We were greeted by the lovely Jo who made us feel like VIP's. She went above and beyond. Her customer skill are amazing. The 2 young lady waitresses were polite and efficient and very well managed. 10/10 food. Perfect presentation. Flavours were incredible. Food was hot. We were given just the right amount of time between courses. My family provided a birthday cake which was bought out with all 3 ladies singing and other tables joined in. Wow i felt special. This was one of my best experiences for a birthday meal out. Well done everyone. We will be back.

Great food although the waiter did spit at me

Being perfectly honest we have avoided going here for quite a while after a couple of disappointing visits but we're so happy to see they've really turned it around. We dined as a family of 4 and we all couldn't fault our starters or mains. Service was excellent, friendly and efficient. It's always been a beautiful restaurant but now happily the food and service match the surroundings. Homemade food and beautifully presented. We live in Farndon so we're so happy and will be dining there a lot more frequently. Thank you Farndon Ferry.
