Atmosphere very sombre, hard to have conversation due to it being very silent. Service very slow, felt like I was a child being told when to go for the carvery. All staff including managers don't know how to provide service with a smile, very miserable. Cutlery blunt, struggled to cut through especially the very tough beef, gravy was like water and the cauliflower cheese needed armbands as the sauce was also very runny, possibly powdered. Plates are tiny and can't fit much on, Toby carvery is definitely a better option. Also only accepts card, wanted to split the bill and that seemed like a chore

We'd thought about eating here a few times and thought we'd give it a try. The room itself is big and was quite interesting as it is the old kitchen, problem for me was it wasn't very warm. The menu isn't very extensive, I would have liked to have seen a bacon/sausage sandwich listed but I ordered the cooked breakfast without beans and tomatoes. It came with the beans on, I told them I asked for no beans and they took it away without a fuss. I will say this, it was a very nice breakfast except the toast hadn't really been toasted enough. All in all, good food, good staff and I'm really looking forward to trying the carvery, I'll just have to wait until it's a bit warmer.

We wanted a nice Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed! I am going to honest when we arrived, I was a little unsure as small restaurant area. However service was brilliant and staff really friendly. They suggested that we wait until 2pm before going to carvery as it would be refreshed then. This did confuse us a little, but worked out they have 2 sittings - one at 12 and one at 2. We arrived at 1.30 so chose to wait. The carvery was delicious- a wide range of vegetables, giant Yorkshire puddings, a choice of 3 meats or a combination of them if you wish. The chef was lovely, helpful and couldn’t do enough to help. There is a choice of puddings, but we were too full to sample. Only very slight disappointment was lack of draught beer - but did get impression this was a temporary issue. One of best carveries we have had in a very long while. Can’t wait to go again!

Previously visited several times a few years ago. Meat was nice although we prefer the beef pink, but the veg especially the roast potatoes were bland and tasteless…need to cook in duck fat or around the meat to add flavour. The parsnips were a little undercooked. Overall it was ok but had better elsewhere for the same price. Sadly will be my last visit.

A lovely restaurant, we attended for the Mother's Day lunch. The restaurant is located within the grounds of Rufford Abbey so be prepared to park on grass (it gets very busy at weekends) and pay £5 to park (which is worthwhile if you are spending time in the grounds but not just to visit the restaurant). The restaurant is well signposted. It was quite cold within the restaurant as it is in an old building, with radiators along one wall, (high ceilings and old stone walls). The waiting staff were great, very attentive and friendly and the service was quick. They offered ice cream to my son rather than the puddings on the menu which was great. The food was lovely, I had homity pie and and everyone else had roast beef and yorkshire pudding. The pie was excellent, and I'm told the beef was delicious (not pink in the middle). The pie came with mashed potato and a roasted parsnip (one), the beef came with roast potato, a roasted parsnip (one) and yorkshire pudding. The table was provided with a bowl of veg which was my only complaint. It was the sort of frozen mixed vegetables you get with carrots, green beans etc. The meal was £19.95 each and while the plated meal was lovely, the veg was a massive let down for the price. I can only assume the yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes were cooked in animal fat as these weren't provided to the vegetarians but then to get a bowl of frozen veg was dismal for £19.95. Two puddings on offer, we all went for the sticky toffee pudding which was lovely (the other was creme brulee) So much effort was put in to the pie and beef, yorkshires and roast potatoes, the mixed veg stuck out as especially sad and out of place. It was half lovely, half woeful. I wouldn't book again unfortunately.

We visited the restaurant today for my sons birthday. Although the carvery was excellent, I was very disappointed that we had to pay £5 to park the car. I thought this could be set against the bill for food but no such thing. This wasn't mentioned when we booked the table and no information until you reach the point of paying the carpark. We won't be going back as there are plenty of pubs/restaurants of equal quality food where you don't have to pay to park a car.

We visited this restaurant for New Years Eve lunch expecting the same quality we enjoyed before the catering company was changed but we were a little disappointed. When we arrived at Rufford on New Years Eve at about noon the carpark was bursting at the seams. As we had not booked a table anywhere we thought we would starve or eat elsewhere. After fighting our way through crowds in the courtyard, the shops and even the toilets, we were not hopeful of any table space. We found Lord Savile's tucked away by chance. We were shown to a table straight away by a very polite lady. We were made to feel at ease and could not believe how few people were sat eating. Looking through the limited menu we all opted for the carvery. That turned out to be a smart choice. My gammon was very tasty. The cheese mashed potatoes were an instant favourite. We all agreed the meal was superb. Afterwards, walking the park, we questioned the price and agreed again it was very reasonable for the quality. It was a bitterly cold day, and yet people were opting to sit outside at the other food outlet. Part of this could be the signage on the site or maybe we caught it at the right time. Either way, I for one will be back to sample the menu again.

Recently paid a return visit here on a groupon voucher our last visit being two years ago. The table was pre-booked and ready for us on our arrival. The staff made us welcome and couldn't have been more helpful. The food was well cooked and there was no skimping on portions. A staff member informed me it is all locally sourced and given how good the pork and beef were I have no reason to disebelieve her. I have to say I am not a fan of carveries but this has to be the best I personally have ever had. When we visited two years ago I made exactly the same comments regarding the quality of the food. Given that the groupon is for two courses and the quality of the food it is an absolute bargain.

And the best Yorkshire pudding I've had in years! I helped myself to mashed potato, roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots, peas and cauliflower cheese. I thought it was pretty good value for £10.95. The restaurant was full almost full and people were being turned away, which was surprising as the signs outside clearly said there was no need to book. I guess they expected people to eat outside, but that isn't much fun in early January even if the sun was shining. Don't forget to take your car park ticket in with you - if you spend more than £20, you get a parking refund. Sadly, we didn't know this and neither did some if the other diners.

Due to the time we had booked our meal there was only 3 choices of dessert left, but we all had different and everyone said how tasty the desserts were. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and afterwards a lovely walk in Rufford Abbey park.

Really good and friendly service with most of our party having the carvery which was ok for the price and a good selection of veg. Desserts were disappointing with only 4 choices which for us dessert lovers proved uninspiring but vanilla cheesecake was good. Overall good atmosphere although a shame it was cold so ended up wearing our coats during the meal.

My husband and I had a lovely afternoon tea at your restaurant. It was very tasty and had a good variety. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would love to come back again sometime. There is disabled access and a disabled access toilets. However, you can't park very close to the restaurant.

We always go for a roast dinner when our friends come over from France, this is there favourite place for a carvery. The food is always hot and freshly cooked and most of all tasty. The staff are always very friendly and the place is always clean. I would recommend booking.

We came for a family meal. It is clearly quite popular as it was busy. That didn’t seem to be a problem for the waitress who served us who was happy, smiling and courteous. We didn’t have to wait long for our order to be taken at all. We were never made to feel rushed even though it was really busy there.

Went with a friend for the first time last week, we were totally unprepared for the gourmet food that awaited us! Every dish in the carvery looked inviting and the dishes we opted for were exquisite (reasonably priced as well). The staff were friendly enough but the star of the show was definitely the chef. Congratulations!

I went for lunch at this restaurant two years ago and was delighted with it, but something seems to have gone wrong in that time. We arrived ten minutes before our booking time to find a crowd of people trying to get in the door. This one door seemed to be the only port to allow people in and out. The people in front of us were coming in to see if there were seats available and we were kept standing outside as our booked time came and went as staff tried to accommodate them. Surely there is a way of allowing people that have already booked in advance to at least enter the restaurant to let the staff know they are there.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. All the staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was good - nice to have a pianist playing while we ate. However the vegan version of the roast dinner wasn’t great. There was a nut roast listed on the website menu however when we got there it had been replaced by a different option. It was a spiced cauliflower patty which tasted good but didn’t fit on a roast dinner IMO. We were told that the mash wasn’t vegan so we would get extra roast potatoes instead, but we only got three small roasties each and when we queried this, we were told you usually only get two. The greens were inconsistent; I had a pile of kale while my cousin had green beans. The carrots and parsnips were rock hard (and cooked with honey so not truly vegan). The vegan dinner felt a bit measly compared to the others, with very little effort to substitute items or present a filling plate of food worth the price tag.

Four very nice meals. We had a rib eye steak, pie of the day, vegetarian wellington, & liver & bacon. Well presented & served with a smile. Waited about 25 minutes - good time for fresh tasty food. Followed by sticky toffee pudding & cheesecakes. Nothing left on plates! Clean throughout with ample close by parking. Thank you. Very reasonable prices. Will return.

Gentleman welcomed us and was so helpful and accommodating. Beautifully decorated for autumn/Halloween. Comfortable bay seating. Couple of steps into cafe, toilets upstairs. Wonderful porridge and extensive breakfast combo menu. Great food and lovely staff in a pretty cafe, could not ask for more.

Birthday luncheon, we hadn't planned to come here, we met a butcher at Rutland show, he had just opened a bistro in Sherwood, unfortunately is was not open today. Being probably the hottest day of the year I did not want to travel too far, we have seen Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the on dinners in the restaurant. I found the chairs a little too low and not quite supportive. Starters which we share were salmon wasabi pea puree and fennel citrus sperified balls, absolutely fantastic then chorizo cumberland and a wonderfully cooked egg. Mains, fried pulled pork and a sousvide steak, I had to try it because I sousvide at home, however I felt that it lacked taste and was a little dry. the tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. dessert was to die for, basil cheesecake with micro lemon balm Definitely be back to ravage the a la carte menu
