Pre booked tables were being used, service dreadful, coffee tepid, cake arrived when we had all drunk our coffee, restaurant manager unfriendly and dismissive, tables not been wiped, crumbs under the chairs.Decor lovely and expensive but ‘fur coat and no knickers’ - need to get the essentials right pdq!!One positive - young waiter Tom was a star.

My husband and I had dinner here last night and our whole dining experience was Wonderful! I can't speak highly enough about how AMAZING the staff were, both friendly and helpful. Husband had the 10oz. Gammon dinner with chips, I had the 8oz. Sirloin steak dinner with mashed potato, and we shared a beautiful side salad. Everything was cooked to Perfection, with very little waiting time. The pub was Lovely and Clean, and we loved the history lessons. And they had a Wonderful patio with Beautiful trees. We hope that the management takes Good Care of this staff as they made our dining experience AMAZING! Thank You So Very Much from Colin and Canako from Canada!

"The Place To Eat" this is certainly not! I have noticed a significant progressive deterioration at this Cafe over the past couple of years! This morning I ordered a Bacon Roll. The lady behind the counter told me that there were no rolls, but I could have bacon on sourdough. I was okay with that, but just take a look at the bacon they served me!! It wasn't properly cooked!! The guy who did the cooking is certainly not a chef of any description! I will never return to The Place To Eat at John Lewis.

Has to be the worst mcdonalds in the country i really cant imagine it could worse anywhere else. Chips come in to options burnt to a crisp or uncooked. Chicken burger was 90% breading. Terrible. Avoid at all cost

Smashed up cars in the car park, the patio area outside covered in filth, on entry into the hotel it resembles an abandoned building site, the room we were given was filthy, stank of sweat and stale tobacco, an inch of dust on the bed headboard and on the corner of the carpet, the hotel inhabited clearly by people with either substance or alcohol addictions, the view from the window was a roof with hundreds of cigarette stubs on it, (see stale tobacco smell comment further up), this is without a doubt the worse place we have ever had the misfortune to stay in and I personally don't know one person who would spend a night in this place. We stayed 10 minutes, I booked us in the Ibis 2 miles down the road. A severe complaint raised with booking.com who should be ashamed to have this hotel on their website. Needs closing down!!!!

Will not stop here again, every time we have stopped there have been more toilets out of service. This time only my husband went and said they were filthy so I didn't bother using the ladies. If you can hold on until Tibshelf, only 16 miles further on.

I love a good garden centre cafe. They're normally such bubbly, relaxed, lovely places, full of middle-aged people enjoying a cake before buying another aspidistra. But not this one. This is the garden centre anti-cafe. The staff could not be slower - the queue for ordering food was more than twenty minutes despite staff standing about chatting. Then, they ran out of most vegetarian food options, including chips. But nobody had told the person taking the orders, so they happily took payment, which then needed refunding and re-ordering. It's a total mess. To add insult to injury, though this place is dog-friendly, my dogs were made to feel much less than welcome. A member of staff loudly and publicly berated me for feeding mine a sliced-up sausage roll.

Don't want to be able to see the waitresses underwear when eating my nearly cold, badly cooked food. longer skirt and different chef would be advised.

Thought I'd try chips from here, never again, hot, hard and absolutely tasteless, I'm now nursing a burnt tongue.

Good news and bad news. Good news - Fish very nice. Free salt and vinegar. Bad news - Cold chips, dry bread roll, tea had a skin on it? Eat in the Resaurant, ate out of boxes with a wooden fork. 45p for a little sachet of sauce. Average service. I know it’s just fish and chip but it wasn’t a good experience.

pancakes were not cooked. owner rude and didn't resolve. complete waste of money. sloppy service and sloppy desserts should be the name.
