I travel every week with business, and I can honestly say this is the worst place I’ve stayed, it sounded like the room had rats and kept me awake most of the night, nobody answered calls at reception, spoke to guy at reception about state of room, this guy was clueless, had to keep going back to his manager, checked out the hotel with nothing resolved, I had to buy a new shirt for my business meeting also. I will not be walking away with out this issue redressed, if nothing is heard back from management by midday tomorrow I am contacting environmental health and booking.com

Booked one night due to location and price. Magnificent old building but interior has seen better days. Polite helpful staff well stocked proper bar, well stocked tea and coffee container in the room and nice big bath towell. Couldn't hang around to try the breakfast but it smelt delicious

No food until after 8, when the chef decides to turn up. When it arrived it was very average. Not enjoyable. We were a group of 4 and all said we would never eat there again.

Just one night here. Small room up steep stairs and around corridors. They take a £40/- deposit off you at check in, but you don't get it back on check out. It turns up in your account later in the afternoon. Didn't eat here. Appears to be a hotel for workmen judging by the number of vans on the car park. 1st and last time here.

This used to be one of Leicester's finest hotels. Roaring 20s esq. Not any longer. It's been riven into the ground and now is a low grade motel style joint set in what still is a beautiful building.

It is 5:01pm and that can only mean one thing, it is the end of the day, and work is finally over! Now it is time to unwind with one of my favourite drink choices- A Strawberry Daiquiri:) On this occasion, I chose to go to the Churchill lounge and Terrace, as I am forever in love with the things of the past and this Lounge bar definitely emphasises this.
If I am drinking, and then I am definitely eating! After many choices, I chose the Oysters (Divine!). The service was efficient, and the waiters...

We choose the Regency to hold my mother's wake. The food provided for the buffet was very basic and of a poor standard. We booked for 60 people and expected at least 1 of each type of sandwich to be available per person but that wasn't the case, The 'sandwiches' were pieces of french bread with a bit of topping on top, majority were cheese. Instead of quiches and samosas I had asked for a nice selection of small cakes, we got a couple of packets of Mr Kiplings. The tea and coffee provided sat and stewed in the corner, no fresh pots were provided. At £792 it was extremely expensive and just felt like it had been done as cheaply as possible. We were asked several times about settling the bill, I get the impression that this is a hotel that is struggling to stay afloat.

We were invited to a friend's birthday meal at The Regency. The bar area is very dated but the staff were friendly, polite and efficient. The menu seemed quite extensive with 'Lite Bites, starters and mains ' The light bites are £8.25 and then the mains varied in price. I chose the Cajun spice encrusted salmon, new potatoes and seasonal veg. We sat in a lovely conservatory and the staff were very attentive. When the food arrived it was incredibly disappointing. There was a small portion of salmon which was covered in a very synthetic tasting spice and the posh sounding sauce was a tin of chopped tomatoes with a dash of chilli added; it certainly had not been cooked at all. There were 3 small new potatoes and some very overcooked watery veg. It was like a bad pub meal from the 1970's. For this pleasure we paid £10.50, but the meal was certainly not worth more than a few pounds. We now realised that the long wait for the food to appear was not because they were cooking it all from fresh but because I imagine they were having to defrost everything. If it had not been a birthday do for someone else then I would definitely have complained. Tasteless, small portions poorly presented. The two stars are for the staff.

I took 12 people to the murder mystery night, which was a treat for my birthday and my daughters 16th birthday. The hotel looked very nice. Then murder mystery started with a cast of two people. The room was full of people and you couldn't see or hear the act. We were seated at the bottom end of the room and half of my party had to watch the murder mystery through a mirror, has they were seated with their backs to the act. The food came and it was awful. My daughter is allergic to oranges and her melon came with orange slices on. I asked a member of staff if they could change it. The waiter picked up the plate and stomped off in the kitchen without even a word. It was a three course meal and even the chef screwed up the fruit salad for dessert. We sat around for approx two hours and the murder took place after we had finished the complete meal. In total there was three members of the murder mystery and one died so much for the imagination. I do agree with the other reviews the drinks was expensive. My father bought a large wine and a coke and cost him nearly £7, he then went back and asked for a small wine and coke and it still cost him the same money. The bar staff who served him was actually the waiter who took away my daughters dessert who didn't speak. The staff are not helpful and are just pure rude. Next time i will stick to my usual murder mystery venue, where you get value for money.

I organised to take my team from work to a murder mystery night at the regency in February. It was awful, the hotel looks lovely from the outside but inside it's old and tired. The food was average, the chairs very uncomfortable, any drinks had to be bought at the bar, nearly £4 for a bottle of beer! Everything suggests that the owners want maximum profit with minimum investment. However, the worst bit of the evening was the murder mystery which was amateurish and crass. There were lots of sexual references (e.g. An audience participation bit where the main character was called 'blow job') and clearly more thought had gone into that than the murder plot. It would have been fine for a stag or hen do but not for my team night out or the birthday parties that were also there. There should be a warning so that people are aware of what type of entertainment is involved

This used to be a lovely restaurant in a nice old building that was once a convent. I have not been for a few years and was very disappointed. The decor needs sorting and the food was atrocious. There were over 20 of us, yet they hardly had any staff serving and we had to go to another room to get drinks. Hardly anyone ate their main course. My nephew found his risotto inedible and asked for Vegetarian Pasta instead, which arrived with chicken in, so he couldn't eat it and didn't get anything. My Husband's had chicken with sauce that tasted like packet sauce. The Roast Potatoes were horrible. The Yorkshire pudding wasn't much better. The Beef could have been any meat, it was tasteless. My Niece's little boy was sick because they put pepper on his chips. The way some of the old buildings in Leicester are being ruined is very sad. See my review for the same day for The StoneyCroft Hotel, which is just down the Road. The only reason we had a good time was because we were together. The starter and dessert were fine. The cost for lunch was £20.00 per person and £12.95 for children. It's a disgrace to charge those prices for the food we had. Needless to say unless they change Management I will not be going back.
