The best restaurants serving British food in East Midlands

We have visited the café at Waterside quite a few times and have always enjoyed the food and have never had any issues with the service before this occasion. We visited on a Sunday morning, and we were seated pretty much as soon as we walked in and the waitress took our drink and food order within 10 minutes of sitting down and she advised us that there might be a 20 minute wait for our food to come out as they were quite busy, but our drinks would come out quite soon. We understood a delay in the food as yes it was very busy that day. Our drinks did come out quite quickly but unfortunately the food was very delayed, and we got our breakfast just over an hour after ordering. We did ask one of the staff members to check up on our food after waiting roughly 40 minutes and they advised that it should be out soon. I had ordered the smashed avocado on sourdough bread with some smoked salmon and my partner had The Waterside Shovel breakfast (full english). The food again was very nice as always, just such a shame on the service this time. We did mention this on the way out to pay and they kindly took our drinks off the bill. We will still return here for breakfast again and hope that it is not so busy next time.

Sunny 🌞 was our waitress. What an asset to CP she is. Very attentive & bubbly, helpful & knowledgeable about wot to do & where to go. She was happy in her job said it’s a lovely place to work which u could tell by her bubbly nature. Thankyou sunny 😎

Christmas Day lunch. 11 of us (6 adults and 5 kids). Absolutely wonderful. Food spot on. Service great. Enjoyed so much, booked for next Christmas.

My daughter and I were travelling down the A1 and honestly couldn't face the dreadful food served in the motorway service stations so thought we'd Google somewhere just off the main road. I'm so pleased we made the short 2-3 mile diversion to go to.Clumber Park. Lovely place - the cafe had great views over the lake, and we had a healthy baked potato and salad served with a nice cup of tea in a China cup rather than plastic beaker. The staff were really.pleasant and friendly, food nutritious and the views excellent. Tiny bit on the pricey side but worth the trip.down the tree-lined avenue and not a greasy burger in site!

First impressions; No table cloth! Drab room! Receptionist was also waitress! Tea was served in horrid white chunky cups. Afternoon tea on a chunky tiered plates...tiny scones on top with pre packed clotted cream...not even in a dish. Sandwiches were filled with what tasted like sandwich fillings and cheap ham. There was no finesse....we thought it was a bit like Fawlty Towers....and expected John Cleese to appear! It was great to be with friends who could all laugh at it! Won't be going back for seconds! It wasn't even well presented... We had a knife and had to use our tea spoons to serve jam!

Absolutely disgusting service ordered 2 teacakes and our friend after us ordered her food, her food comes out 30 minutes later and no sign of the teacakes when we asked for them we were spoke to like trash and then only 1 teacake came when we said there should be 2 teacakes we got "well we are short staffed" another lady then appeared with the missing teacake that wasn't even toasted ended up asking for a refund and that seemed even harder than getting a properly toasted teacake..

Absolutely amazing food the sweet potatoes and chicken was delicious my daughters chips were really and fresh definitely would recommend polite helpful staff

Solo visito este café una vez en una luna azul: y mi visita para almorzar hoy me recordó por qué. Después de pedir y pagar (a través del código QR en la mesa) llegó la bebida de mi hijo. 15 minutos después fui a preguntar dónde estaba mi bebida. Me dijeron que se habían acabado... pero nadie me lo había dicho. Pedí algo más y miré mientras se hacían y entregaban muchas otras bebidas antes de que llegara la mía. Luego llegó el almuerzo de mi hijo (que contenía un componente cocido). La mía (que no contenía un componente cocinado) llegó algún tiempo después cuando casi había terminado. ¿Y el precio cobrado por su mini rollo de salchicha? Qué horror.

absolutely disgusting food and service. Lady called Catharine served me on the till, said ‘what am I doing with this lady here’ I was holding a baby whilst trying to get my food, no offer to help me at all. The tuna crunch Sandwhich was vile. Tasted out of date and just disgusting. Also the till staff always disappear so there’s always people stiff there for ages. Won’t return.

Food was mediocre. Staff not very enthusiastic. Worst of all, they allowed a woman to change her babies nappy on one of the tables and didn’t wipe it down afterwards.

13 of us visited for a birthday meal , some had two courses others had three, can honestly say the food was amazing, the starters of prawn cocktail and mushrooms were yummy, the main courses selected consisted of salmon , pork, beef and lamb shank ( not included in the set meal price) and all the meats where delicious, there were also plenty of roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower cheese and gravy to go around, when the desserts arrived they were large portions and could be served with cream, ice cream or custard… Fabulous meal , would highly recommend

Tenía un café con leche y una esponja Victoria. El personal era muy amable y la comida y la bebida eran agradables. Sí que hay que ir temprano si se está solo o es difícil conseguir una mesa ya que no es servicio de mesa por lo que hay que hacer cola y arriesgarse a no conseguir una mesa.

Aunque el personal era agradable, la comida es muy cara por la calidad, el pastel estaba crudo... Pagué 3 libras extra por una rodaja de queso en una hamburguesa... Para aumentar el sabor amargo, recibí una multa de estacionamiento. Esto es mi culpa, debería haber leído los letreros, pero realmente hubiera esperado que el personal me dijo que ingrese mi matrícula al tomar mi pedido... Se suponía que el aparcamiento era gratuito para los clientes. Cuando pedí ayuda, me dijeron que el personal estaba muy bien capacitado y que no era su responsabilidad. Muy decepcionante.

2 of us had cod,chips and curry sauce and a drink here. Fish was ok, not a big portion and chips were nice. However we thought the curry sauce was very good.
