I really don’t like leaving bad reviews so I’ll start with the positives. This pub is within walking distance for us so we like to support it and have had drinks here often, the outdoor seating area is lovely. We decided to eat here last night (Monday), there were 3 of us. Menu was reasonable, typical pub food at a reasonable price. The waitress brought our sharing platter starter then disappeared, I had to go to the kitchen to get our own plates! The waitress then brought our main courses before actually clearing the empty starter plates, and god forbid if you ask for butter, our Lurpak portions were just slammed on to the table. The meal itself was absolutely fine, it was the service that was extremely disappointing. We weren’t even asked if we wanted desserts or coffee. As an observation, the lady who we assume to be the landlady (she’s been sitting on her backside in the bar area each time we’ve been in) appears to have very limited managerial and customer service skills; we have no issue with children in licensed premises, but there were children playing football in the bar area last night, and if these are the owners children, it’s not a very professional image. All in all, this wonderful big pub needs to pull its socks up, us customers want to support it but we want to be treated like customers and not as an inconvenience.

Food was ok a bit pricey for us but it is what it is, chips are nice, homemade onion rings very nice. But we had a fab time with our friends. Staff were lovely. Place was clean and tidy.

We visited yesterday for the Sunday roast buffet. We went later at 4pm and the pub restaurant was relatively empty as to be expected. The food was quite good and we have been here on at least 6 previous occasions and what has changed is just how dirty the pub looked! Carpets badly stained, food trodden in, sticky worn old furniture..... I could continue. It was off putting and cleanliness is paramount where ever I choose to eat. I did like the outdoor television idea, plenty were outside watching the Formula one. As for the food, I've marked it as average as the cauliflower cheese was quite dry possibly due to being sat for a good time as too was the mash. Roast potatoes were excellent however but vegetable choice seemed to be less than on previous visits. Not bad but room for plenty of improvement. Visited July 21st 2024

Had brilliant carvery today. Best gammon ever…pork lovely too …definitely value for money and best we’ve found locally…so please it’s just up the road from us…intend to use more often… Yes we did notice children but no bother to us…dining late afternoon there was no overcrowding …and no big families… Staff pleasant. Oh! Pleasantly surprised at the price of Guinness…hubby drinks it. I pay for it😁

This pub needs a serious update plan. The food is mediocre. The seating is not only uncomfortable but dirty; needs a thorough clean. The disabled toilet was a disgrace; seat covered in excrement; the gents toilet seat was almost hanging off. It’s a bit like a kindergarten in the pub with bringing their children to work and allowing to run freely around paying customers. Not a good experience at all.

We arrived at 4-30pm on 29/2 for the Steak night to be told the steaks were sold out!!!- we ordered alternative food and waited an hour for this to come, the food was cold/poorly presented. We called the manager to express our disappointment. Her excuse was that they were busy. The pub was less than half full!! The food was returned and we were given a refund. We will not be returning.

Four of us had a lunch today using the £14 for two meal deal. We all had different meals and all were pleased with the food. The real ale was excellent too. The total cost was less than £40. The service was good too. I don’t think you could do better elsewhere in Lincoln for value for money!

Booked a table for 6pm this evening, arrived 10 minutes early and shown to our table. Advised there would be a wait. Sticky so asked if it could be wiped down but made no difference! Not sure if staff were off sick, had left or what but we didn't get our food until gone 7pm! Food ok but have had better there before. Was contemplating booking for Christmas but only a basic menu, nothing special and based on tonight, we'd be better of going to our usual, Mill Lodge. Very disappointing

Food was ok as was the service. Tables were sticky. So many food practice no nos seen - serving staff eating then serving food without washing hands, kitchen staff not wearing hair nets some not even wearing a hat, tables cleaned with a dirty cloth from a tub of water that's probably been there all day, cutlery polished at the same table as staff eating, plates held with dirty tea towels, gravy being mixed in the middle of the restaurant area, filthy glasses, I could go on.

Booked a table for a Sunday carvery for a family gathering, some of whom we haven’t seen in over a year. There were 8 of us and when we arrived the staff had no idea how many our party was for, we were shown to a table in the bar area that sat 6 people and was told that 2 of our party could sit on the table behind us. I said it wasn’t acceptable and we wanted to sit together as a family. The manager and a waitress pushed the two tables together and left us arranging ourselves. The staff were obviously not impressed with my request. The food was Luke warm and the carvery staff had no idea what they were doing. We used to be regulars until the COVID issue but it’s since changed hands and is more like a spit and sawdust saloon than a family restaurant and bar!

It was a day I was really looking forward to, as not been with many family members during a very difficult 2 years, with COVID and having to isolate due to vulnerability after serious operation. I have had milestone birthdays, wedding reception christenings etc over a 50 year period of being a local, but yesterday’s diabolical and offensive attitude from a bar manager, was dreadful from the literal minute we walked in. Myself and several other family members did not even have any exchange with her at all, but after she was abrupt on our arrival she was challenged by my sister on this behaviour. We then went to our very uninviting tables. approx 2 hours later we ordered another round of drinks and food, we were informed none of us would be serviced due to being rude!!! at best she needs serious customer service training, to worst being in a job that she does not understand and feels being rude and “power pist” is acceptable. Interestingly after telling this to friends, was told “oh that’s happened to us” or yes we have heard what she is like, which goes a long way to explain the lack of atmosphere and customers!!!!!!

Aggressive StaffMy family and I have been visiting this pub for over 50 years celebrating many life occasions here including my own christening 43 years ago.Due to the pandemic we have not been able to get together for some time and was therefore hugely looking forward to getting together today, especially after some serious family illnesses over recent months. We had 2 tables booked for 2pm and asked for them to be close together as there were 9 of us.When walking in we could see some of our family were already seated so started to make our way towards them, however was stopped in our tracks as we were aggressively confronted by a woman barking at us ‘have you booked?’. When we said we had she told us to ‘get back there and wait’. I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to so rudely and confrontationally in a ‘service industry’ environment ever before. This understandably grated a few of us and my Aunty explained to her she thought she was rude and no need for it.Lincoln FC were playing a playoff game so we asked if there was any possibility to sit near one of the TV’s to be told no as they are rammed with bookings and full all day. Not sure what happened but you can see from my pic that this was not the case! When one of us went to the toilet we could see the big TV in the bar area and not a single sole was sat in there. Then at the front of the lounge there were loads of empty tables and just 3 people sat watching the TV. We asked why we couldn’t move to be told the tables were booked from 5pm and 6pm so they had to keep them clear..... we made this enquiry at 2.15! My cousin then went to the toilets to be barked at again by the same woman ‘mask!’ - my cousin said ‘there’s no need to talk to me like that’. Fair enough he had forgot and rightfully should be reminded but surely there is a decent way to talk to customers? My nans partner then went to order scampi and chips. A server (who we know well) came back to tell us ‘I’m so sorry but I’m not allowed to serve any of you any more as the bar manager says you’re rude’. This bar manager who has no trouble being so bullish in her normal attitude showed no accountability or ownership for her decision and instead sends someone else to deliver it.My Aunty goes over to ask her ‘who in my family have been rude, what have they said so I can sort it?’ The only answer my Aunty got was ‘get out’.I fully understand the need to be vigilant with the evolving COVID regulations as I live in a pub in London and have done for last 20 years. In my view however, this attitude is quite remarkable in a business who (I assume) has a desire to continue to trade as I know very few people who would tolerate this. The manager (Danny) came over to talk to us and we explained what happened but understandably he backed his staff until he could look into it. This has resulted in what should have been a joyous reunion in our local pub being down right horrendous. At the last minute we couldn’t book an alternative so ended up with my 80+ year old grandmother sat outside in the cold so she could see her family for a bit. (Who also had her 80th party in the Bull a few years ago).I go back to London again tomorrow so this has spoilt the trip..... so much so that I’m writing this at 3am as the injustice of it all is playing through my mind. (I didn’t drink today as I’m driving in the morning).Over the years we have obviously seen many peaks and troughs of both village pubs but this an all time low point for The Bull for me.

I was delighted to be able to meet up with my family for the first time since lockdown has eased. Due to my age I have been shielding for 18 months so this was a long time coming. Some of my grandchildren took the day off work and others travelled a significant distance to be there. Two of my daughters are unwell with one needing 121 support which is why we chose this venue as it’s been a family place for all our occasions for many many years and is local to the majority of us.You can imagine my surprise when we received such a rude reception in a near empty pub. The bar manager sent over a waitress to say we could no longer be served as my grandson had forgotten his mask to go to the toilet. She spoke to him as if he was something under her shoe. My partner had just ordered food and another round of drinks to be told via a third party staff member that all 9 of would no longer be served. The protocols that this woman seemed so keen to bark at everybody appeared to only fit when suited....* The vast majority of the time the staff wasn’t wearing masks. * There were peas squashed into the carpet (at 2pm in the afternoon)* Tables were sticky* The wipe-friendly food menus were covered in drinks and stained. As someone who has used this pub for over 50 years, I am absolutely disgusted and will never set foot in it again while this particular ‘bar manager’ is there. Two of my granddaughters who are publicans (one in London and the other in the same village as this pub) were both horrified at the level of service.

I had the most disgusting experience at this place, as soon as I entered the bar manager, I just had a forgetful moment ,and she barked at me to put my mask on whilst not wearing one herself, which was funny, I was told to stand there and pointed at the podium and wait, by this time my back was starting to arch, the powered pissed attitude, was starting to wear thin, and she got challenged on her horrendous hospitality, my son also went to the toilet and forgot to put his mask on momentarily and was barked at "mask" ! To which putting the mask on was not the issue, her intolerable manner was a big issue, and my son said " who do you think you are talking too!, at this point we were sat with other family members and my mother was waiting for a meal, and the barmaid was sent to tell her she could no longer have it, due to the challenge of myself and my son ! My mum is in her eighties, and was asked to leave, she was so horrified and has COPD,and has never been asked to leave anywhere, and their was nine of us altogether and we all had to leave, there was food ordered and drinks still not drunk, if myself and my son were an issue, which we wasn't, just not easy targets, why did my mother have to go, she was mortified, it was a awful experience by everyone and our first drink after lock down and I will never set foot in there again !!!!

The this large table of 9 people came in and sat near us (they where all together not distanced at all) they where very loud do we ask our server to politely ask them if they could keep the noise down a little She then went over to the table of 9 pointed at us and said they have asked you to keep it down at that point we where shocked the server left then we started getting abuse from the other table at this point we spoke to the waitress again and made it clear they where abusing us and that it was against the law for more then 6 to be together they did nothing we won't be back !!

Having walked past the Bull for a while since the C-19 situation began and were tempted by the steak night, we decided to give it a go. We didn't have to book luckily so just popped in on Thursday. We had to specifically ask for the Steak Night menu which was brought to us (people who arrived at the table next to us later also had to ask for that specific steak night menu). We ordered off the menu and the food (steak, chicken, ribs) and atmosphere was very good (table #7 at the very end corner). We did, however, spend 20 minutes sitting with dirty plates in front of us trying to catch the waitress' attention to no avail. At the end, I suggested calling the bar and asking for the bill but my husband had to shout through the restaurant "excuse me" to attract any attention (as we have to pay at the table nowadays). When we arrived home to put the receipt on the family expenditure list, we also noted that we were charged the full value of the meals whilst we specifically ordered (and waitress put through the till to the kitchen) meals from the Steak menu offer. We were wondering to go back as this is simply not right but then it will look like we are awkward ones for expecting honesty when getting the bill. A sad end to a nice evening, I do not think we will be going back even so we live just around the corner. It would be nice not to need to check the bill and mistrust your local pub.

Where to begin... New Years Eve afternoon we decided to take relatives , who were visiting from Somerset, for a carvery. It was about 1.30. The meats were very dry (in fact the beef looked like old leather). The roast potatoes were cold, hard and swimming in grease (what few there were!) Some of the veg was missing, and what was there was tepid. The Yorkshire puddings were not worthy of the name, more like rock cakes- I left most of my meal. We were told some fresh beef would be ready in "about 5 minutes" we chose to make do with the pork and gammon, but in the 30 minutes we were there no new beef came out. (I appreciate that the food is cheap but if it is inedible it isn't value for money) BUT the piece de resistance was that whilst we were eating the staff were taking down the Christmas decorations around us and the other customers in the bar.-Very strange... The pavement outside the main entrance is cluttered with cigarette butts the ash tray by the entrance is full and overflowing and there was detritus and debris on the decking that had been there for several days. Not very inviting...I kept apologising to our visitors, it will be a long time before I go in again...As a footnote; at the side, where the garden is, there is a damaged bollard and a long piece of metal spike exposed, NOT GOOD!

Trying to find a place to eat on a regular university run for the next 3 years. The Bull looked perfect, pleasent inside and easy parking. Unfortunately that's where the good ended. Asked if gluten free was available when we were being seated and were told "not sure but I'll check" Waited 15 mins for an answer but we were obviously forgot. Asked again at the bar to be told it should be ok. We went for the carvery that turned out to be tasteless, the meat was over cooked and dry, the roast potatoes had a strange flavour. Half way through the meal I overheard another diner ask if the gravy was gluten free, they were told it wasn't so now one member of our party is looking forward to an upset stomach, and severe pain. Don't see us eating here again.

A group of 13 of us at 4.30 on a sat, not particularly busy when we arrived, a handful of us had starters (which actually were all very nice) however when it took 2hrs from ordering to receiving our main meals things went downhill quickly (or should I say slowly!!) When the food arrived, we had a rare steak that was so over cooked it could hardly be cut, a chicken Diane that had very dry chicken and a ‘lovely’ skin on the Diane sauce (had clearly been sat some time), steak sauces were missing and when we questioned we were told they hadn’t been ordered, they arrived when the steaks were almost eaten and the sauce was just water, no thickness to it at all! My own meal was lasagne (from the 2 for £12 menu) as per the pics I had approx 6 fork fulls of lasagne and the plate was bulked with lots of salad and chips, not worth the £6 but worse still it had clearly been kept warm for a long time and was so dry and rubbery it was almost inedible :( No sauce to it at all! We had to chase to find out where our food was 3 times, each time ours was next and one response I got was to tell me that we should have pre ordered for 13 people , thus making out it was my own fault for any delay....maybe the staff member that took my booking 2 weeks ahead of our arrival should have asked for preorders?!? We would have had NO issue with this if asked! When we complained about the food after it had arrived, the member of staff told me she had to speak to someone higher up...the response, a refund on my £6 lasagne and a free bottle of wine (no use to us as we needed to be at another event in the village in 10 mins and couldn’t have taken it with us)

I have to say my mum has already written a review, but she didn’t have any photos so I’m popping them on. In summary 5 adults 2 children, early Saturday evening table booked the restaurant was not even a quarter full... and to summarise the evening.... firstly order a bottle of white wine standard Pinot Grigio none the fridge.. so had to have it ice in it and ice bucket... we had a long wait for the food. 3 (including myself) of the party had steak which were cooked as requested and nice but I had the rump and ribs... which was 8oz rump steak and half rack of ribs, it came with only 3 ribs. I had the peppercorn sauce which looked awful and very runny and tasted nothing more than a gravy. At nearly £14 with sauce ... not very acceptable. The others had a Stilton sauce it was runny and not cheesy. My nephews burger was smaller than his pot of peas and was so hard we had to send it back, my mum had the curry which again looked an awful colour came with something shy of a couple of tablespoons of rice and the poppadom was raw in the middle also went back. Then to top the evening off my brother who had treated us to the meal got over charged as they didn’t take off the £20 holding deposit. But to be fair he hadn’t spotted it and they called to rectify. Overall just not a good experience. We had heard really good things about the place in the past such a shame.

My son booked a table for 6pm for 7 people on Saturday night. When we arrived the restaurant was not really busy but we had to wait a considerable time for our meal. We had 2 children with us who were getting very tired and hungry. When the food eventually arrived we had some issues my grandson had ordered the kiddies burger which came burnt to a crisp so we had to send it back, I ordered chicken curry, my poppadom had only been half cooked so it went back, my chicken curry was grey in colour and very unappetising my rice was overcooked. 3 of the group had steak which they said was cooked very well, but the sauces were not good, the peppercorn sauce looked as thought it had curdled, the Stilton sauce was like milk. The white wine was warm they had forgotten to put any in the fridge. All in all not the pleasant night out with the family we had imagined. When we arrived home my son received a phone call saying he had been overcharged £20, he had left a £20 deposit when he opened the tab and it hadn’t been deducted from the final bill, fortunately a member of staff had seen the error and rectified the problem.

Returned to a regular haunt The Bull after 4 years away down south. Arrived as a family of 4 for food on a Thu eve. Happy to accept a “plus 30 mins” on serving times. Food ordered at 6:30 pm, first of four starters delivered at 7:20, second at 7:30, then raised concern to waitress about 2 missing starters. Apologies and free round of drinks offered. First main arrived at 7:35. Two main courses arrived at 7:50, sent back as the starters had not yet been served. Starters finally arrived at 7:55 as first main being finished, but one of the starters was wrong. Had to ask waitress for round of drinks. Final 3 mains served at 8:15.

Went to this pub as staying close by to watch the football and have done food after a long drive. Only a couple of staff on the bar duty and took 10 minutes to get served for drinks then even longer to order our food. Food came within twenty minutes and can’t say it was good as it was not. My partners chips along with her 8 bits of scampi looked reconciled as did mine and were not very crispy at all. As for my beef and ale pie this was very dry and difficult to eat only good part was the gravy jug filled with good gravy. As for the football we did not stop and glad we did as only one TV and difficult to see as ticked in the corner of the bar. Not a great experience and when we return to Lincoln we will give this poor pub a wide berth.

I am a frequent visitor to this pub and it's one of my favourite places to go. The atmosphere is friendly - the locals and bar staff provide a great, relaxed, safe and happy environment. The food is a great price for what you get- especially mixed grill Monday(£10!!!!). Its a huge building so you can always have a table and there's 2 beer gardens! There is a separate pool bar room with a juke box if you would prefer to drink and listen to music without worrying of being noisy to diners. They have a band once a month so it really is a please everybody village pub. If only every village had a pub like this! I wonder where that ace tall blonde bar maid went ...

Having booked for 7.30pm the manageress could not find the booking as she had written it incorrectly (a common English surname, not difficult). Our table for 5 was an extra chair plonked on the end of a table only large enough for 4 so we insisted on being moved. As the dining room only had 2 tables seated this was no problem.

We had booked a table at The Bull for 2:15pm on Fathers Day, we arrived at approx 2:25pm and were greeted by the wonderful sight of overflowing sewers backed up near the entrance! As we entered the pub we were met by a dark haired lady who was soon to express her disappointment that we were late.. we explained there was an issue with traffic and we did call at 2pm to advise of our position, this fell on deaf ears “it’s just we’ve got the table booked again at 3pm so we’re going to have to move you”, now I’m a frequent eater out and would expect more than a 45 minute window at my table! Nevertheless, we were shoehorned to another table, at a busier end of the pub.. my father in law asked the question whether there was an alternative table, to which the dark haired lady scoffed and said absolutely not.. she then dashed away before we could respond (more on her whereabouts later) I appreciate they may have been extremely busy but the lack of interest as to why we wanted to be relocated was simply staggering. It was at this point we decided to leave. The Bull certainly didn’t miss my customer, they seemed busy enough, but as a local to the area, it may be the chance of any repeated custom that will offer the long term blow!

Surprised by how many negative reviews there are about 'The Bull'. This was my second meal here in 6 months and it was spot on. My burger was tasty, well cooked and looked good. We didn't have to wait very long for our meal and we didn't feel rushed.

We regularly eat at The Bull in Bracebridge Heath. Today was a pleasure. The carvery which we had was excellent, the staff were all pleasant and very helpful. we noticed that the quality of food and attitude of some staff did have a bit of a blip, but we're so pleased they all have pulled it together and got back on track.

Went today (Sunday) to be told no carvery as equipment broke. Then asked if still wanted to stay. Where else would I get a table at short notice? Then waiter said would be up to an hour wait for food even though restaurant less than half full. Food not good. Someone needs better training with the microwave. My pie was cremated and unfortunately the gravy did not revive it. The bread and butter pudding was also rock hard in places. There was food all over the floor around our table and even on the chairs. Had to ask for a clean glass. Cleanliness has also gone downhill. This was a birthday meal but will not be returning.

Been coming to the Bull for years, slowly it has been becoming an unpleasant place to enjoy a meal and chat, the food is not of a good standard and complained each time, always see others complaining about food or returning it. Over the last few months the atmosphere has changed from a pleasant enjoyable environment to one of loud awful music, children running uncontrolled until after 10:30, loud bad language, owners dogs barking at customers and no displayed management skills. Simply cannot enjoy a nice evening out anymore. Never had any issues with the previous management that was worth complaining over. Will not be using this establishment again and have heard many others sharing the same opinion.

We have just called at The Bull on our way home and decided to have the carvery . This was a brilliant choice with a good selection of meat on offer and numerous different vegetables including roast potatoes . The food was cooked perfectly and very hot , the service was very good with friendly and polite staff . I would definately go there again and would highly recommend it to any one wanted good food at a very reasonable price

We have lived in BBH for a year now, we have had a few evening meals here as well as the Sunday Carvery. The management had changed just before Christmas so we decided to try other establishments for Sunday Dinners. To be honest we feel the Bull is still the best, for all round value, the staff are great and welcoming the food is consistently very good as is the family friendly atmosphere it will not be too long before we go again.

Our first time in for over a year. The food was great but we waited about 40 minutes and it wasn't that busy. The bar staff were preoccupied with local drinkers rather than serving diners. The staff always used to be attentive , won't rush back as it's about the whole experience not just food .

I’ve been living in Bracebridge Heath for many a year, drinking in this local establishment often. I must point out though that never have I had to stand on a stool before to look over the bar to see if anyone is serving. Today, they must be the shortest bar staff ever to work a shift. The hobbit movie set must have lost a couple of extras. What they lack in height they make up for in personality, energy, exuberance and awareness of customers (which is impressive considering they can’t see above the bar). A word of warning, the word “moist” is forbidden and woe betide any customer that dares to drop it into general conversation. Gremlins springs to mind, especially if they get “moist”, particularly Bam Bam who has a penchant for shouting “GO”. I sense a movie theme coming on here. Jurassic Park came to the Bull today, great afternoon, great company and great service.

Went in today for late lunch just after 2 so we chose carvery as it was on offer 2 for £10 the carvery bar was bare to say the least there were 4 empty sections just enough mash for us no couliflower, no stuffing, 5 roasties and to top it off it was cold. The staff were lovely and the place was clean and tidy but food was poor, preferred to pay full price and had hot food no cold and greasy. They serve the carvery till 3 so why was the bar empty and the food cold. This is usually so good been lots of times but never again.

I thought this was meant to be a family friendly pub until me and my family went for Sunday carvery and was seated in the bar area known as the ‘cubbyhole’. Why a family of 6 were seated in this area in the first place I do not know!! How can anyone think it is acceptable to seat a family next to the loudest, most foul languaged customers/‘regulars’? It was truly a disgrace! I urge the bull to have some control over the amount of swearing and they should not use the cubbyhole as an eating area!!

Not sure what’s happened to this place. The food has gone downhill this year for sure. The carvery area looked a bit unappetising. The beef looked like crispy old leather and apparently you are only allowed 2 slices of meat in total ! That’s fine if the joint is a decent size but the pork and beef and gammon today were very small. So we mentioned this to the waitress. She returned a bout 10 mins later with another couple of slices. The vegetables weren’t fresh, they were from a packet the cabbage looked a soggy and watery and aneamic ( savoy ) also the roast potatoes were from a packet, a certain aunt B as they were small. There was a few odd “normal” small cut roast potatoes in there mixed in. The gravy was lumpy and congealed. And to top things off, it wasn’t very hot. This is the second time we have had this and have had to mention it to staff but they don’t seem bothered to be fair so we certainly will not be coming back here. Prices are ok but there’s a limit to how cheap you can do a meal and it becoming inedible / unacceptable.

Walked in to chaos and unfortunately the experience did not get better. Long queues with disorganised bar staff. Then waited for carvery, server was rude to my friend who had a specific dietary requirement. Got told abruptly that we would have reserved table til three even though it was dead at three. The roast potatoes were beyond soggy, must have been boiled and microved. Deserts another long wait. Then my friend with a pram was asked to move even though there was meters clearance and we had let them know on booking we would have a baby with the party. Overall poor experience won’t be coming back.

Came here for a weekday lunch with the family. I must say the staff were friendly and we didn’t come across the notorious landlord thank goodness. The pub is pleasant and our food was average. The farmhouse salad came with so much cheese that we took some home! Very nice indeed. The roast chicken meal and scampi however were average I’d say. Unfortunately I have rated poor due to the sorry state of the high chair. The straps were filthy and I doubt they have ever been cleaned. It really does not take much to get some hot soapy water and give them a thorough clean. I had to clean the chair down and refused to use the straps at all. Disgusting.

Been going to The Bull for some years, with it being my local drinking establishment. Great, well-priced food, and the younger bar and waiting staff are always lovely, so I wont give a poor star-rating on that basis. The landlord however...grumpy, abrupt, condescending, rude, and appears to revel in these aspects of his personality. He's certainly an unexpected character to be in charge of a hostelry... I know if I was kitchen staff he'd be getting a cauldron of custard over his head.

Lovely pub, nicely decorated and a lot bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Cheap for the two us to eat, 2 meals, 2 sides and 2 pints of lager for just over £20. Service was quick and very friendly, meals were nice. Lasagne portion a little small to me and very cheesy (I don’t like cheese so that’s personal preference), plenty of chips with it. Hubby had ham egg and chips, his egg was cooked perfectly and the ham was delicious, not many chips with this meal though. Onion rings were beautiful, the batter is delicious. Too full to try a pudding but will be back again at some point to try one.

Just arrived home from the Sunday Carvery at The Bull. The bar service was great and staff were polite however, after queing for 20 minutes for our food when we got to the service station there was only 1 server who was overwhelmed. The meat was dry, roast potatoes were practically raw, mint sauce was in sachets and the selection of vegatables was poor in comparison to other cheaper carveries in the city. Really disappointed with it being somewhere you have to book, would expect much better quality.

It's the first time we'd eaten at the bull, the food and service was really good and reasonably priced. The decor is modern and the atmosphere good with plenty of car parking space. My only criticism is and I think it's important for those with nut allergies to be aware of is the cheese cake option. There is no reference to the flavour of the cheese cake on the menu but when my partners arrived, it had nuts on top and also mixed inside the cake it's self. When we mentioned this to the waiter he explained that they alternate the choice of cheese cake each week. Whilst there is the usual strap line at the end of the menu about allergies etc, I think it would be more helpful to list the flavour you may get when ordering the cheese cake. Luckily my partner isn't allergic to nuts, he just doesn't like them.

After a long mornings work from 2am to 1pm I arranged to meet my wife for a chilled drink before heading home. We decided to meet and try out our local pub, The Lincoln Green as we understood it is under new owners and would like to support it.. Sadly on being asked if we were drinking only I was asked if we would go into the bar area. The lady was friendly and I have absolutely no issues with her as this is obviously(in my view) a very misguided policy. I informed her that we would not wish to do that as in the past we have found it cold with wooden floors which when the football is on makes it noisy. I have no issues with this in general as I enjoy watching football and make special trips to do so at pubs for the atmosphere but on this occasion myself and my wife just wanted a quiet, comfortable drink together. I explained this and added that the comfortable restaurant was totally empty. We were offered the chance begrudgingly to sit tucked around the corner as a large table(15 which soon turned to 8) was expected shortly. She declared that on this occasion we could but she had to state she couldn't promise in the future. I told her that we wouldn't waste our time trying in the future. We will just go straight to the CENTURION or HARROWS where we know we can sit in comfort and nice decoration for a quiet drink. Things I don't understand-1) if I was eating I would much prefer some atmosphere with some drinkers as opposed to an empty restaurant. 2) Had it been 11.30 with the possibility of a full restaurant I can understand not wishing to take tables but this was 2pm and totally empty. 3) we were not a noisy group who would be shouting and swearing and could spoil someone's dining experience 4) Surely a pub should be able to cater for diners, sports and football fans AND couples hoping for just a nice drink. Sadly, unless this policy changes we will not be back(unless to watch the football)
