Sunday roasts etc, all good as expected. Service good for a busy day. However, Really disappointing vegetarian burger, no lettuce, tomato or onion or cheese, just a plain dry bun, not even a side of slaw. Think chef would benefit from a bit a vegetarian food presentation training. 😜

Mis hijos eligieron comidas del menú infantil que eran geniales! Buenas porciones y todo fresco! Mi pareja tenía Fish and Chips y yo tenía Chicken Schnitzel, que debo decir que fue una de las mejores comidas que he tenido en mucho tiempo. Sin duda volveremos de nuevo! First time at this lovely traditional village pub. We had a great after and early evening, the locals were very friendly, good selection of ales and very well kept. Will definitely return when in the area

Enjoyed a couple of fantastic beers after a walk along the Witham. Sat outside in the sun. Thankfully it was sunny as inside was packed (on a Friday lunchtime). the pub was very homely indoors, lovely traditional feel. Great selection of four real ales including their own brewed by the navigation brewery

Food is incredible and freshly made, the value for money is good and all the staff (chefs especially) work really hard to deliver a great service.

We had a family Sunday dinner 6 adults and child in this lovely pub. The food was very good with good portions and excellent service. Would highly recommend a visit and meal there. I Will Delfinately go again.

Esta fue nuestra primera visita aquí y no decepcionó. Había un menú maravillosamente variado. Optamos por las setas de ajo en una salsa de vino blanco sobre pan de masa madre y los bolos de whisky Haggis para empezar. Carne asada y una cazuela de caza con muñecos como principal y luego picado Apple Crumble y Berry Eton Mess para los postres. Todo fue fantástico. Restaurante muy ocupado, agradable sensación de bienvenida y personal amable. Volveremos.

Our belated work Christmas party at the “Oak” today for 10 of us. Excellent food and service, nothing too much trouble , would fully recommend.

He tenido un par de visitas en las últimas semanas y tengo que decir que fueron excepcionales. La primera visita fue para la Noche de Filetes, yo tenía el Tournedos Rosini, que hizo flummoxed la camarera ya que era un evento único y ella no había oído hablar de ello, mi esposa tenía el Filete Filete. Ambas comidas eran hermosas, excelentemente cocinado y el mío era increíble. Mi próxima visita fue con amigos para el menú de Navidad, de nuevo el estándar era excelente y realmente disfruté de mi entrante de queso de cabra y remolacha, mi pavo asado era encantador y la tarta de natillas era la mejor que había probado. La Espada de la Carne también se veía increíble. Mi última visita fue el domingo pasado y tuve el muy recomendable Festive Pie que estaba lleno de sabor y muy lleno, no necesitando realmente el resto de las verduras y patatas. Finalmente terminando con una repetición de la Tarta de Natillas, lamentablemente con no tanto relleno como la primera vez que la tuve, el chef explicó que la caja de pastelería se había agrietado durante la cocción y algunas se habían filtrado, pero realmente deberían tener esto como una opción permanente. El servicio fue excelente durante las 3 visitas.

Fuimos aquí la semana pasada, ya que estábamos en la zona. Sorprendido de encontrarlo casi vacío a las 6 pm. Setas de ajo con salsa de crema de vino blanco en masa agria y paté casero. Primero lo primero, el paté era insípido y parecía una porción de uno genérico del supermercado. De mal gusto. Mis setas se veían bien, muchas setas, pero ¿dónde estaba el ajo? No podía saborear ninguno y estaba tibio, por lo que era grasiento. Mi marido (habiendo tenido muchas parrillas mixtas y este establecimiento en años pasados) lo ordenó. Dije que el precio era un poco alto £ 26. 95 pero, con recuerdos de las hermosas parrillas mixtas que solía tener allí, dijo que confiaba en que sería una comida encantadora. Oh, Dios, qué equivocado estaba. Pequeño filete duro, no sé qué corte, trozo seco de gammon, muy seco y masticable, una salchicha de sabor barato, un huevo, guisantes, medio tomate, oh un trozo seco de pechuga de pollo. Oh y patatas fritas, que eran lo mejor en el plato. 95 ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Mi comida fue el pastel festivo, que creo que fue casero bien. Pero venía con verduras ya preparadas y una gota de puré de papas todo cubierto de una salsa espesa. La patata no era puré fresco y sabía a puré en paquetes (oí a otra clienta mencionar esto a su pareja también). También estoy desconcertado, en cuanto a por qué estaba listo emplatado y cubierto de salsa cuando se sirve. Esta no era su práctica habitual cuando solíamos visitar este pub hace unos años. Seguramente la verdura debería haber estado separada en un plato. ¿Y si no me hubiera gustado Bruselas, col y zanahorias y puré todo cubierto de salsa. Lo siento, pero no lo hice. Fue entregado como una cena escolar. Caro a £ 16. 95 . Me comí la mayor parte de la tarta festiva que era agradable al menos. Pregunté sobre el puré de patatas del servidor en la mesa y sin contacto visual dijo Oh, todo está fresco mi querida. ERR no, no fue mi querida. Sé que los precios han subido y la hospitalidad lo está pasando mal, pero estos precios de la comida presentada estaban muy por debajo de la par para un pub. Estaba listo para una discusión en el bar al pagar y el tipo nos preguntó cuándo fuimos a pagar, todo está bien para usted. En el tandom los dos fuimos NO. Parecía un poco perdido por las palabras, pero le expliqué el problema. Una vez más me aseguraron que todo estaba recién hecho, etc., etc. y luego se apartó (un poco grosero, creo) Cuando nos dio la factura, nos dimos cuenta de que ya había habido una deducción de aproximadamente £ 9 y escrito como 'tabla abierta' en la factura. Supongo que esto se hizo de antemano, porque el tipo nos acaba de dar la factura ya impresa, ¿qué significa eso? Tal vez un procedimiento bien practicado. UMMM interesante Royal Oak. Espero que el otro cliente (que dejó su puré) también lo haya consultado. Es una lástima, este solía ser un encantador pub de campo, vale la pena salir, siempre lleno y siempre elogiado por los clientes cada vez que estábamos allí. Recomendé este pub a un montón de personas que conozco a lo largo de los años. Espero que me sigan hablando.

We came due to a very positive review about it being dog friendly, but this must have changed since the review because we were made to feel most unwelcome with our very clean small quiet dog.

Lovely pub! First time here and so happy we came as the food was lovely. I’m Coeliac so I had the gluten free fish and chips. Dedicated gf fryer and the tartare sauce was confirmed gluten free. Staff were really warm and friendly. Can’t wait to come back soon.

Tuvimos un tiempo fantástico en el Royal Oak, reservé una mesa para 4 personas (familiar) para mi comida de cumpleaños, de principio a fin el servicio y la comida fue excepcional y tuvimos la mejor noche, es un hermoso pub de campo tan cálido y bien distribuido, no te decepcionará salir a comer aquí, la comida está de pie bien presentada. El cóctel de gambas era perfecto todos teníamos un cóctel de gambas para nuestro entrante, y la estaca de solomillo que yo y mi madre teníamos para nuestra comida principal estaba cocinado a como nos gustó y también era perfecto. La hamburguesa de Royal Oak beef que tenían mis padres y hermanas era enorme y estaban muy contentos con la comida principal y despejado allí plato, (todos teníamos platos vacíos). Todos tuvimos un desierto diferente y wow todos disfrutamos de ellos. Y me quedé boquiabierto cuando la encantadora camarera volvió a la mesa y preguntó quién era el cumpleaños. Fue a lo que le respondí que era mío y el chef había preparado un plato que había escrito en él feliz cumpleaños en chocolate y un trozo de pastel, fue una linda sorpresa. Volveremos pronto. Recomiendo encarecidamente el Royal Oak.

A lovely country pub where new chefs have taken over the kitchen. The food was excellent; I had a Twice Baked Souffle which was soft and flavourful. This was followed by a Chicken Katsu Curry, that tasted amazing but I couldn't eat the chillies. My good lady had the Pan Fried Salmon with Mash and a Buerre Blanc Sauce that she loved. For dessert my wife had the Panna Cotta and I had the Brownie. The meal and service were excellent and the price wasn't bad at about £70 including drinks.

Fuera para lo que resultó ser una comida de celebración. La comida era preciosa, tenía la Pechuga de Pollo rellena de Pudín Negro y cambiaron la salsa de Peppercorn por una salsa cremosa. Mi marido tenía uno de los especiales, el hígado de ternera con salsa de puré y cebolla. Él fue el único en tomar un postre y el Sticky Toffee Pudding se veía delicioso y la salsa sabía divina. Un encantador pub rural donde los nuevos chefs se han hecho cargo de la cocina. La comida era excelente; tuve un souffle dos veces horneado que era suave y sabroso. Esto fue seguido por un pollo Katsu Curry que sabía increíble, pero no podía comer los chiles. Mi buena señora tomó el Salmón Frito con Puré y una Salsa Buerre Blanc que le encantó. De postre, mi esposa tomó el Panna Cotta y yo el Brownie. La comida y el servicio eran excelentes y el precio no estaba mal en unas £ 70 incluyendo bebidas.

Lovely visit today for Sunday lunch, first visit did not disappoint! So eager to eat my roast I forgot to take a photo but remembered in time for dessert! The new team have done a wonderful job and the food is delicious!

We (2) have just had a truly delicious roast lamb dinner followed by crumble and custard. The range of vegetables, sticky parsnips, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower cheese, mash and roast were cooked to perfection. The gravy was gorgeous!Highly recommend this Sunday lunch and pleasant service ☺️

Recently visited with friends and had an excellent meal and enjoyable evening. The staff were super friendly and went over and above to look after us. Would thoroughly recommend and we shall certainly be returning. Can't recommend enough. Thank you to all the staff for making our evening an enjoyable experience, can't wait to taste the rest of the excellent menu!

Excelente servicio - Excelente comida - ambiente encantador - un montón de opciones. Tenía 3 platos. Primeros: Cóctel de gambas, champiñones al ajo, pan de ajo. Plato principal: carne asada ❤️, scampi y bistec y pastel de cerveza. Pudín: crumble de frutas y un pastel de queso biscotti El pastel de carne y cerveza era enorme y delicioso. Todos los platos fueron limpiados.

They ran out of real ale while we where there. Also my turkey and cranberry stuffing pie was mainly all stuffing and a very small amount (less than a teaspoon) of turkey. The salmon linguine was very oily. The other meals ordered where not liked by our friends. Big shame as used to be a great pub.

Lovely evening meal trying their new menu, food came out piping hot, great spot for classic pub food. Creation portion sizes especially the steak pie 🥧 also enjoyed the Gammon and chips, and the special Katsu curry!

Delightful pub with friendly staff and good food. We went for the Royal Oak burger. As you can see, the portions are on the large side. this holds true for the cheese burger on the kids menu. “More like an adult meal.” The burgers are delicious with nice homemade pattie, Stilton cheese and bacon. Comes with a side of well seasoned chips and salad. All in £60 4 drink and 2 adult 2 child meals very fair. The pub has its own car park and to the rear has a private outdoor seating area with a small kids play area. Think we will be back to try more of the menu soon. Ps. Love the hanging basket.

Friday and not very busy wife's food not too bad my food terrible,ham sour chips not nice and for peas had enough for 4 people never again

We popped in quite last minute on Saturday evening for dinner. It was lively but not too lively there, which is just what we wanted. The service was spot on. Attentive without being overbearing. We were looked after very well - thank you! Something that is often lacking in other places locally, so it was a refreshing change. Our waitress was especially good. The food was delicious and was served in good time. Too much for any of us to finish but nicely priced. We hadn't visited for a while but we will definitely be back again very soon. Thanks for a great experience.

We have driven past this pub many times in recent years. Called in today at 2.30pm. Cleary a busy place. Asked if sandwiches were available. Yes (great) … & given menu. Went to order and told there were no baguettes … none on stock and waiting for them to be delivered. Ok, so asked for Ham, Egg & Chips and Sausage, Egg & Sweet Potato Fries. We waited for food to be served. Coach party of 40 ‘ish people arrived and almost instantly received their (no doubt pre ordered) burgers. We continued to wait. After 2 requests for our food it arrived 45 minutes after ordering. How long does it take to actually prepare, cook and serve the simple choice we had asked for? When it arrived I’m afraid it was hugely disappointing. The sausage had been cooked in a deep fat fryer (yuk) and the sweet potato fries were just lukewarm warm. The two fried eggs … one was ‘ok’ but the yolk on the other was broken and cooked as such (is that acceptable when paying just under £15). The expression ‘slap dash’ comes to mind The chips with the ham were skin on and chunky … the menu gave no indication of that (especially if that’s not to your liking) … bearing in mind all the 40+ burgers were served skinny fries. Did I complain … nobody was to be seen to pass comment to… and nobody, during the course of our meal came to ask if all was to our satisfaction. Nothing personal here but this was our disappointing experience today.

My partner and I really fancied some good pub food and was recommended here. Upon arrival we was greeted by a waitress called Hayley and she immediately made us feel very welcome. We ordered the sirloin steak with the Stilton sauce which was absolutely incredible, honestly I cannot recommend the food enough and the staff are just so lovely! The atmosphere is nice and it is a friendly pub.

Had Sunday lunch 05/05/24 it was lovely the only thing that was disappointing was the roast potatoes were not roasted they were deep fried.

Lovely place, great homemade food and great service too...we are new to the area and was a nice place 10 mins drove from our house so we will be back thank you.

Stopped in for lunch with my in laws and wife. All had baguettes, the BBQ chicken was really good, the bread was fresh and crispy and the fries were great. Lovely country village pub. Service was friendly too.

Paid a return visit after some 7 years. Still as good. I had liver & bacon and the wife had a burger (which was the best we have ever tasted). Staff were lovely and the beer top class.

Went for an evening meal at The Oak and we weren't disappointed in any way. The food was utterly delicious and ewe didn't want the meals to end! It was that good, it really was. The pub itself is a lovely building, set out nicely with a very homely feel. It was very busy when we were there but it wasn't an issue. The servers were polite and friendly and food made it's way out in a timely fashion. An excellent meal and a cracking visit. Heartily recommended.

Traditional village pub, excellent food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. We have here most weekends for the last three years and can't fault anything at all. Customers are friendly and the menu is extensive. Recommend the steak and stilton pie but please don't eat it all as it's my favourite......enjoy

Food and service was great found the place cold and dead no one in for meals.

We ate Sunday lunch here twice. A few weeks ago, and today. The previous beef roast dinner was fantastic. Everything very nicely cooked and we followed up with a delicious sticky toffee pudding. An easy five star. We sat in the back room which was fitted out as per a restaurant. Today we had the same meal. The beef was very tough and gristly and my partner sent hers back. On both our plates, the parsnip was hard and the carrot wasn’t far behind. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy. Both offerings of potato were good and the cauliflower cheese and gravy did their duty. Afterwards we ordered the sticky toffee pudding. It arrived with the texture of a rubber ball and the sauce was tepid. We sent it back without bothering for a replacement and got the bill. A generous three star. I’ve rounded the two meals to four star. This time we were in the snug. We were comfortable in the corner but two older couples were struggling with the stools. Just be aware to ask to be in the back room. The front of house staff were efficient and very welcoming. I’ve barely ever had to return food and to have to do it twice in one meal is a bit rum. I guess the chef had an off day.

Yesterday evening we had dinner here. We were served by Hayley who was a great ambassador for the pub, being attentive and efficient and clearly thoroughly happy in her work. We ordered fish and chips and were presented with a large and perfectly cooked piece of fish and plenty of chips. Luckily we had room enough for a delicious pudding of home cooked chocolate brownie. One of the best pub dining experiences that we have enjoyed in a long time. To be thoroughly recommended!

Only had gammon for Sunday lunch at 3pm… So many people complaining..We ended up having pie, steak and burgers for Sunday lunch between us. The burger got left as he was so looking forward to beef dinner. The kitchen had caught fire so it took ages to come out. Sooooo expensive for what you get. And the decor in the back room looks like whoever did it was on acid. Spoils the look of the pub. Very distasteful. Would look better on a beach somewhere. Staff were nice. Not their fault…

Arrived 10 minutes early for a 3pm reservation to be told the table was not ready and to have a drink in the bar. After 30 minutes of waiting in the bar I enquired if the table was ready and we were shown through to the restaurant to a table that was not set (clearly forgotten we were waiting and the cutlery was quickly taken from another used table). We were handed menus and despite booking for a Sunday afternoon in the hope we would be able to order a traditional Sunday lunch were informed that there was Gammon and Nut Cutlet only if we wanted a roast. (No beef, lamb or turkey.) Despite this we decided to stay and choose from the menu regardless. Unfortunately we waited another 20 minutes and despite at least 5 members of staff being in the restaurant/bar that was no longer busy we were not attended to at all. After being on the establishment for an hour from arrival with no service or food we decided to pay for our drink and leave. We are extremely disappointed with the lack of service and general apathy we received today, we will not be retuning again. Shocking service Royal Oak.

We have been here many times & as usual the staff are very welcoming & the pub was very warm & cosy on a cold January evening. My husband chose the steak pie which looked & tasted delicious, I however made the bad choice of the chicken curry, the chicken was very tender, the onion bahji was delicious but unfortunately it wasn’t a curry, it was just a tomato sauce. As usual the Espresso Martini was to die for, but on this occasion I’m afraid the dish I chose was very disappointing.

Had a lovely meal all home cooked pie was full of braised beef proper pie crust fresh veg not the cheapest but you get what you pay for

This was a great experience. Having been here with family for a drink the evening before and hugely enjoyed it, my wife and I booked in for lunch before returning later to Scotland. This felt to us everything an English country pub at its best should be. It was warm and cosy, we sat beside a log fire (this being January), the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we had good conversations with some of the locals, the food was superb (best fish and chips ever) and the portions extremely generous. We booked the same table we were at the evening before - in ‘Alan’s corner’, beside the fire. Highly recommended. We look forward to a return visit.

This was one of our many trips to the Royal Oak, as it is fairly local to us (Waddington) and it never fails to disappoint! The waiting staff was lovely, attentive and really looked after us. Myself and my husband had the beef and Stilton pie with vegetables and chips, which was absolutely delicious, and the chips are to die for! We didn't have room for dessert unfortunately as we had both finished every mouthful. We love the quaint, country-feel of this cosy homely pub and it's lovely welcoming atmosphere. Such a hidden treasure, and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

This is a lovely village pub , always a warm welcome with friendly staff and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend giving it a try , summer is great for the lovely outside areas and winter for the warm open fire . My favourite little pub

Recommended by another pub which was too busy to fit us in. This free house is lovely & inviting. We had lunch & a pint. Curry & a pie for my husband & me. Delicious, quick & friendly folks. Would come again if we’re in the area.

Disappointing visit today . Will not be returning . A long wait on our food order . There were only 7 adults and 2 kids . The chips are frozen . The gravy wasn’t in a jug and poured over the plate which ruined the dinner as it was so salty . Kids pizza was burnt . 2 kids ice creams came with soup spoons to eat with . Staff all nice apart from one who was rude .

Food was middle of the road, nothing exceptional. Not all elements of the meal were delivered. Teriyaki burger should have come with salad but no salad on the plate when it arrived. Ordered it with no bun and only got a slice of tomato and gherkin. No dogs allowed. Tiny toilets, if the nappy changer was needed, nobody else could get in or out of the ladies

Not a good meal at all on Sunday We went at 3pm to have a Sunday lunch Beef and turkey was warmed up on a griddle !!! With burn marks all over it Raw veg also had to send it back Stuffing burnt Yorkshire pudding was the best bit Roast tates over cooked and heated up Asked how they had cooked the meat and never got an answer !!!!!! Very disappointed that could had been a good meal in a local country pub Will not be going back anytime soon

Can't really rate the food on this occasion. Only went to get a voucher for a Christmas present. 20 mins later I was still stood at the bar like a spare wheel. Asked what the problem was and was informed "the boss was there and would have to wait until he was finished". Anyway I obviously left, but the good news is, I then popped to the Thorald Arms just up the road in Harmston and got a voucher straight away and it looks lovely in there and the food smelled amazing.

It's a nice place , but wasn't to happy with food as asked for a medium rare and got almost well done steak, everything aside steak was a bit spicy to my taste. But overall food was good .

Was a 1st date & was a lovely atmosphere

Average meal, shame the staff were more interested in having a chat than maybe asking us if we would like another drink or if we would like any dessert. So went to McDonald’s on the way home for a McFlurry. Shame, just wasn’t as good as I remember.

Food was amazing. Venison burger was huge and meaty. Chips crunchy and fluffy!

Been here several times. The staff are lovely. Food always good whether traditional pub grub or specials. I had fish pie - couldn't eat it all but they were happy to doggy bag it and it was just as good reheated the next day! My husband had braised pigs cheek which he said was tender + tasty. Unfortunately couldn't fit a desert in. Will definitely be back when in the area again.

We popped in here for an impromptu lunch early one lunch service. We walked in & were asked if we wanted to sit in the bar or restaurant area . Only visited here for drinks before. We ordered a tuna melt baguette & the Lincolnshire sausage baguette Very tasty served with a fresh side salad & delicious chips. Large portions but we did eat most ! Liver and bacon was superb on the friday but not so well done on the sunday

They do not respect the times. They close before their schedule. They closed just because they didn't have many clients, so they didn't let us in, although we had driven from far away

All good. A bit pricey. Coffee luke warm. Steak medium not medium rare as asked for, but a good flavour.

Basic, ‘lazy’ unoriginal food; great for those people who are more than happy with a pizza or a burger and chips and are not too discerning. We booked a table for my birthday as friends were visiting. The menu is nothing special, consisting of the usual meat pie, numerous types of burgers, fish and chips etc. Hubby opted for the ribs which came with a very dry cornbread (he thought it was stuffing of some kind!) My friend’s hubby chose the liver and onions which comprised of a slab of liver, mash and half an onion. He like us, assumed the liver would be seasoned and sliced, not a whole slab served up. He said he found it unappetising. Vegetarian options are very limited; veggie burger, veggie sausage, veggie lasagne or butternut squash and chickpea dhal. I opted for the latter (as veggie burgers and sausages I can pick up at the supermarket for a couple of pound so why would I pay over the odds for something so unimaginative?) The dhal tasted like it contained a Patak sauce from a jar with a few chickpeas thrown in and a chunk of roasted squash. I couldn’t taste any garlic. The meal wasn’t awful just average. I’ve made dhal at home many times and mine tastes far better. Longer to prepare but better. We don’t eat out that often as choices in pubs seem to be limited to so called British Classics, mainly burgers or anything else which is quick and easy to heat up. I do understand that it is a case of supply and demand and that unfortunately a lot of customers nowadays have very low expectations when eating out. Many think a burger in a bun with some fried chips is wonderful. Sorry this was not a meal to remember for us.

Wow just wow amazing food and beautiful wine we’ve had a wonderful afternoon What more the landlady gave us a lift back to Skybarn farm campsite because we couldn’t get a taxi Service above and beyond They also do a takeaway service the food is fantastic we will be back x

No music in the background or anything so you could hear a pin drop and was very awkward at times as you felt you had to whisper with whoever you were with because of how quiet it is.

A very nice friendly family pub, food very good served very hot and good portions. Just on a warm day uncomfortable as no air con or fans and lack of windows something that needs looking at. Bit expensive but all good quality

Stopped here on a walk, having our dog with us we struggled to find somewhere to sit, dogs aren’t allowed inside or in the large grassed area at the back. As it was a gorgeous sunny day the front area was very busy all tables...
