We was on a 3 day walking stopping off at campsits on the way. This looked the perfect place to stop for food and drinks. Walked in and 4 other customers told me knowbody was here. I waited about 20 minutes shouting behind the bar. Walk around the back of the place to the back door knowbody there ever. I eventually left with 8 others customers empty handed. I've had bad service before now but NO service at all is shocking. We walked all day with intentions of eating here and camping just around the corner. Also noted card only no cash. Its time to WAKE UP. Also based of your own posts. The Covid virus is an agenda to stop from running your own businesses and force you in to a cashless society taking total control of everybody. There is no virus .

A lovely stop off half around our walk!! We were pleased to find this pub and it had ample inside and outside seating. We ordered 2 sandwiches and they were very tasty-particularly the fish finger one!! The pub is very dog friendly and the serving team were incredibly friendly. I'd recommend a trip. My only complaint is its on the expensive side for 2 sandwiches!

We made an impromptu visit here after taking our toddler on a walk round the gorgeous viaduct; the walk had taken us a bit longer than we expected, so we decided a pub tea was in order. On arrival at the pub my newly potty trained child announced she needed the toilet, so I ushered her straight to the loo whilst my husband took some things we no longer needed to the car. When he walked into the pub to look for us, the host 'greeted him' by barking "ARE YOU A CUSTOMER?'. He'd clearly clocked us going to the loo before we ordered, and decided snapping at my husband was therefore fair game. It's fair enough being a bit frustrated with people using your loo, but when you allow that frustration to spill over to the point where you're speaking rudely to people who are intending to spend money in your establishment before they've even had the chance, then you need either a customer service course or to have a think about whether you're in the right job. We ordered drinks, but were told they'd decided to stop serving food until 5pm. There were only 20mins to wait, so we decided that was fine and picked up a couple of menus. However by the time 5pm rolled round we'd listened to a succession of customers being spoken to sharply and rudely, realised we didn't want to eat somewhere with such a nasty atmosphere, and decided we were eating elsewhere. We hadn't seen the reviews of this place until after we left and it comes as no surprise to see this issue reported before; there's clearly an problem here which just isn't being acknowledged. It's a real shame, it was an absolute downer at the end of a lovely day and service like that turns the bar into a real blight on an absolutely stunning location.

We ate at the stable bar on Sunday night, we can’t fault them. They managed to fit us in, after everywhere and I mean everywhere else in Bakewell and surrounding area either closed at 5 or had no staff due to covid. They had the initiative to get staff from other areas so they could stay open and they served the most amazing food. We really really can’t praise them enough. We both had the Monsal burger, which was one hell of a burger and our daughter had the biggest fishfinger of her life and the lovely lady who brought us our meals even got her to eat her peas, which is hard to do! The atmosphere was relaxed, very pleasant and even though they had squeezed us in at such short notice, they never rushed us at all. Again, because of the little one we found that very nice. They all had a little chat with her, even down to the landlord trying to pinch her flamingo on the way out. She loved it! We would definitely recommend this place for everything, value for money too. Thank you so much for actually wanting to feed us when it seemed like no one else would. We would love to come back when we visit the area next.

We visited here one evening on the 3rd June, the host was very very rude. Saying he had been abused by some people earlier in the day, he was very angry, we had done nothing wrong, we were very calm, he was irate. We have been to many pubs during these times, and always check in individually , he wasnt having any of it, saying one person should take a photo of the check in barcode! While we waited over 15 minutes for drinks, we saw numerous people walk away after waiting to be seated and talking to the man, leaving because he was rude to everybody.

You know when there is a single pub in a tourist trap of an area and it serves rubbish food because it can get away with it? Well the Stables Bar is the opposite of that! Fabulous food served with care and pride in a wonderful setting about half way along the Monsal Trail. We opted for scampi and chips and pork in a bun. Great portions (needed when you have worked up an appetite on the trail!) and my husband actually suggested a photo of the pork bun - held together with a pork scratching skewer! Firstly walked in and there was somebody outside trying to complete the track and trace but the staff wouldn't help them complete it and couldn't enter. So I helped them and was told it was table service only when walking in. Noticed people going to the bar for drinks and I gave it 5 minutes before giving up. I had joined another small group of friends inside who had their drinks who told me how much they had spent and it was way too much for what it was. Nearly double from elsewhere. Literally feeding on people needing a drink in the trail walks. I noticed other members of public trying to come in and they were not told to do track and trace but to wear a mask. Nobody had masks on in the bar. Nobody was saying they wouldn't wear a mask and was happy to but the staff were so rude about everything they walked out and I followed. Staff basically had no idea about regulations and didn't care. Just in it for money and not with anyone's safety. They don't care about their customers. Would never consider going again unless they get different owners.

The lady at the location who serves you deserves a top 5 stars, i have read the other reviews and would agree to a point, they are a tad abrupt and could soften this we are all stressed with the situation, however if you take on board what they are dealing with at the moment it's a stressful time too for them having to make sure you all check in correctly, my advice would be just follow the rules. Putting this aside the food and drinks are great and we went a fee times and it did get better.

We had a locally brewed beer sat outside in the sun and when we went to order food, the queue was short and the staff were friendly and so accommodating. We made a special request for our meal, asking if we could have a side that wasn’t on the menu, and they were sooo friendly and bought us out a big bowl! We were so happy. We had a really delicious meal at the Stables Bar before heading down to the viaduct for a walk through the dale. We ordered our food and sat down at the tablet next to the bar, we waited for 50 minutes and then asked where our food was and we were told it would be chased up. No-one came back to tell us where it was or if the order had been missed, we had no apology not even a smile. Food finally arrived after an hour, when I said to the waiter we had waited the best part of an hour he shrugged and said it must have got missed. Very very poor customer service. The Stable Bar has been a favourite of ours for getting on for 20 years. The new management have ruined it. On a Friday lunchtime in summer it was nearly emply, when previouly it would have been packed. Previously the real ale pumps took pride of place on the bar, now they've been shoved off to the side to make way for lager and keg pumps. The food has never been cheap, but it was always interesting and way better than standard pub grub. It has kept the same price level but the quality has plummeted. Caesar salad, bowl of soup, pint of beer and bottle of water - 28 quid! Unfriendly bar staff. It has gone from being a real gem to being a low quality high price tourist rip off.

First impressions on walking in was a lovely cosy little pub, perfect for a Sunday evening drink after a long bike ride. It's very Rustic with many of the original features, a Woodburner which will be wonderful when the weather turns cold. The lady that served us was incredibly friendly and helpful, we unfortunately didn't have time to eat, but she was happy for us to stay just for drinks, which isn't always the case in many country pubs these days. The menu looked great, and was fairly priced, and the meals served while we were there certainly looked good. We'll definitely return to eat another night.

I have walked the Monsal trail many times and always looked forward to ending it with a pint by the fire in the stable bar. However the last two times I've been in the fire has not even been on (the last one being a cold and rainy September lunchtime) and even if it was on, sitting in front of the fire is now forbidden and the old seat now used to store leaflets and condiments. The new owners clearly don't understand what made this pub such a welcome stop and I will not be stopping anymore! Such a shame.

Came here for food before going on a walk, the lady behind the bar had no smile & was a little rude & 2 diet cokes were £6.50 (which was cheap diet coke & flat)!!! The food seemed very expensive for what it was & the menu was a tatty piece of paper in a plastic sheet. The place look run down & it's such a shame as it has loads of potential, I went to the mens toilets & they stunk, cubicle out of order & just a towel on the side to wash your hands! Vile.

Sad to say that very disappointed- have been in the past and had good meals. Today the food was cold, greasy and poor quality. Informed the staff and they said sorry but looked busy so doubtful my complaint will make a difference. Crossing off my list of local eateries.

We stopped off for a cold drink on a weekday morning. There was a male member of staff pottering about who was very chirpy and chatting to families. Which is crucial in making customers feel welcome. The view is priceless. The pub is pretty. There is only one loo so there can be a wait. Food looked ok, little bit pricey but you have to appreciate where the pub is. Lots of lovely friendly birds and even a cat. Great parking facilities and the place was very clean. I think they even do breakfasts and I'd prefer to eat there over the cafe next door who really don't appear to want you in there. We'll be visiting the pub again this weekend.

Stopped off whilst doing a walk with our 9 month old. Would have ideally gone to the tearoom next door but sadly it was closed. As we walked in i couldnt help but notice quite a few unwelcoming notices pinned everywhere such as toilets for customers only! (Fair enough) And then a sign pinned to the till saying the pub wont give people change for parking and any issues to take it up with council. I asked for a cappucino but was told only standard coffee served. Husband ordered a pint. We then asked for a cup of hot water for our sons baby food and were abruptly told "i will let you have it this time but not supposed to for safety reasons". Never had an issue with this when we ve been anywhere else so found that odd.... i then asked if there was a high chair and was again told due to health and safety reasons with the floor they didnt provide this. I politely hinted you can get ones which clip on table... as the health and safety lecture was starting to get a bit waring and i jokingly said to my husband maybe they just need a sign up saying "no babies!" I was then told "oh no you wouldnt want to clip your baby onto our tables" the tables actually looked pretty solid i thought! . Tea arrived and i was impressed it came with a lovely home made biscuit. Just think the barman could do with being a bit more welcoming and more family friendly as it is in a lovely location for a walk. I see im not only person on trip advisor who has said that though!

Called here for a drink and a sandwich for lunch. The sandwich was OK, nothing special and drinks were fine. What would have probably made the food more enjoyable would be to see a smile on the people who served us. The customer service element was definitely missing and it seemed like a chore for them to actually take our order and bring the food to us. A smile is free and wouldn't be hard to implement.

A rather quiet Friday night worked to our advantage, as you would not normally walk in and find an empty table.

After walking along the Wye, from Wye Dale car park to Leers Bottom car park, drove back to the Stable Bar for a drink and a late lunch. The good, a fantastic view from outside the bar back down towards Millers Dale, and round into Monsal Dale. Reasonable choice of ales, but the bar tender was so disinterested, downright rude to one of our party, that any interest in eating there was rapidly dispelled. A pity as I have stopped here in the past and really enjoyed both the food and the drink. Will be looking for alternative options in future.

So based on a high recommendation from a family friend, I sat down to eat with my partner and browsed the menu through there was options to add extras such as meat and cheese to several dishes including the vegetation options, I went into the bar to order and noticed a risotto on the specials board which was vegetarian I enquirer if I could add chicken to the dish and the barman was reluctant to even ask the chef I then added that you can add chicken to other vegetarian options he went and asked and I was told point blank no...

We have eaten here many, many times but always on a Sunday after a good long walk or cycle ride along the trail! We had never been disappointed usually ordering a hot roast pork sandwich with the trimmings, yummm, succulent and delicious.

Came here last week with family and were quite offended with the lack of interest shown by the man at the bar. I felt as though he couldn’t be bothered to stand there and couldn’t even stretch a smile. We sat down and although everyone else was pleased with their food, my fish wreaked of cooking oil and sure enough was saturated in the stuff. So much so that you could see the fork swimming in it when I pushed it into to. I wanted to mention the reason why I had left the entire fish but we received no table check and eventually about 20 minutes after we had finished eating, our table was cleared by yet another member of staff that didn’t even ask if we had enjoyed our food. Won’t be eating here again

We’ve been here several times after walking the dog on the trail, and the food is very good. The service today was quite slow, but it’s reasonably priced and in a stunning setting. It’s god a good range of drinks on and is a beautiful building in itself. Well worth a visit!

Visited for lunch last weekend on a stunning, sunny but cold day. We were lucky to get a table inside and were warned upon ordering that we would have a wait of around 30 minutes before our food came out. We enjoyed a drink while we waited and when the food came it was very good, excellent fish but frozen type chips and gorgeous game pie, red cabbage, duck legs and home made croquette potatoes. All very tasty but on the pricey side. The game pie meal was £18.50 and the fish and chips £11 so with sides and a drink the bill came to more than £40. The scenery outside made the afternoon very enjoyable. We will certainly visit again soon.

We stopped in for a drink & possibly lunch. After being quite a wet day and having been for a walk, the warm welcome of the fire was very appealing. All the adults had a sandwich & cup of soup. All delicious and filling. My 4 year old had the children's fish and chips and he devoured it with gusto. We all loved the rustic surroundings and could of stayed all day drinking red wine, great find and if in the area a must stop off, even if its for a quick drink and a great view outside.

A winters walk punctuated by lunch. The menu included game pie. Which is a favourite of mine. This was exceptional. Suet crust pastry rolled not moulded. the filling was lined with what I take to be a layer of duck pate. Strong authentic flavours Then this was served with a confit of duck, the leg had been elegantly reshaped. (for moments I was in gascony). served with red cabbage beautifully cooked. and crocket potatoes. this last element was the weakness of the dish contents too watery, with a texture suggesting powdered potatoes. The pie was the star of the dish and really what you have hear is two meals on a plate. Either of which would be exceptionally high quality pub food. My wife had the belly pork with a salad which was also very good.

Having gone on an impromptu walk around bakewell, we got back to the car park pretty hungry. The stable bar didn't disappoint us, a warming warm fire, lovely mulled wine, great beer and some very delicious, well presented food.

If you are looking for a drink along the walk then this is the place to visit. The bar is reache dfrom Monal Head viaduct up a steep path to the Hotel on the top .The staBLES BAR IS ADJACENT TO THE HOTEL. The path to it is to the left of the tunnel by the viaduct. The name speaks for itself as it has been converted to a bar with many of the features remaining. It has a lovely wood burner and is kept cosy . We didnt eat here but saw some food come out to others who were dining and it lokked and smelt great but ran out fo time to eat as we had to get back to the carpark before it got too dark.

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
