We booked here for a party of 20 for Sunday lunch. It was absolutely fantastic. The Sunday roasts were enormous and delicious, best roast potatoes and huge portions of fresh veg and cauliflower cheese. It all came together which was amazing for such a big group. The puddings were gorgeous and the whole experience was five star. The staff really made an impression on us and that contributed to the really great afternoon. Well done!

Disappointed that the dining area is crammed with tables, so you can’t have a comfortable conversation without other tables hearing. Food was ok but nothing special and a bit pricey but what isn’t these days. Subsequently went to the Little Mill Inn pub at Rowarth, less than 5 minutes away and the food was excellent, less expensive and its dog friendly too.

The interior is lovely and very comfortable, the food should have been warmer and the cauliflower cheese should have been cooked (Solid), but the biggest disappoint was the lack of customer service. Excessive waiting, for drinks, for dinner, for deserts; and the lack of apology or even understanding from the lady who appeared to be charge. She appeared flustered and her response was just snarky comments. Surprised anyone goes back, and I see from previous reviews that this is nothing new. Staff training required.

One night midweek stay enroute to Norfolk. Very handy location next to railway station and short walk into town. The plusses - decent room although furniture very tired, lovely staff, excellent evening meal. The minuses - not the best value as rate didn't include breakfast and seemed expensive compared to our stay in a hotel in Norfolk. Cooked breakfast was nice and made fresh but v small portions and the "continental" content was severely lacking - a few apples and oranges, some sad cheese slices with salami and a couple of stale pastries.

I normally love coming here for lunch. You get a good sized portion and it’s tasty. (I’ve often shared one meal with my husband) Unfortunately I came on Sunday and was very disappointed. I had the lamb stew and the portion was tiny. Baring in mind that I’ve had a gastric bypass and can only eat very small amounts of food, (think the size of a 3yos meal, I can’t normally finish a child’s meal) I ate all of the stew (and wanted more)! Also it wasn’t as tasty as usual. The gravy was thin and not well seasoned. My husband had the ham on sourdough special and while he enjoyed it, again it was quite small. I’m hoping that this is a one off and things will go back to normal because I do love coming here.

We were staying down the road at the Queens head, walked down the village and popped in here for a drink, what a great friendly little pub, Brian the landlord and his mum Linda, made us very welcome, we felt like part of the local community, we enjoyed so much we went back several times during our 2 night stay, and much preferred it to the Queens head. Thank you Brian and Linda for you hospitality. Julie G Shepperton.

Two couples had an evening meal. The service was very good. Nice surroundings. Good selection of beers. Great choice on the menu. to suit any diner. The food was excellent. Not the usual mediocre overpriced pub grub you get in other places. Couldn’t fault anything. Well worth a visit

Seeing as my review was removed I will try again! Stay away. I went to the so called “quiz night” and it was awful. You would have found a better atmosphere in a morgue. Hardly any there, no music, vile smell and it was dirty. I use to frequent the pub before lockdown and it was fantastic. It has apparently changed hands since and not for the better. I will definitely not be going back. The smell and filth were enough to put me off my beer let alone dreary feel to the place. Very sad to say that I will not be recommending a once lovely pub
