We were staying down the road at the Queens head, walked down the village and popped in here for a drink, what a great friendly little pub, Brian the landlord and his mum Linda, made us very welcome, we felt like part of the local community, we enjoyed so much we went back several times during our 2 night stay, and much preferred it to the Queens head. Thank you Brian and Linda for you hospitality. Julie G Shepperton.

What a great find , we were staying overnight in the village and decided to pop in here for a drink . It’s a very welcoming pup which had a great bar and restaurant. We decided to stay for dinner which was a very good decision as it was fishy Friday! What a gorgeous meal we had and very good service and nice staff .

Called in “on spec” for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. Luckily the pub was not too busy and we were shown to a table by a friendly bar man (sorry if this was the landlord!) we ordered steak pie and leek & potato pie and two drinks. The food arrived promptly and was lovely and hot, it was very tasty and delicious. This is a lovely pub in the village and well worth popping in if you are in the area, we will definitely be back to sample some more delicious food.

Popped in to this village pub after a walk with friends......... There were 10 of us. When ordering drinks we were made to feel like we weren’t welcome. Despite this we decided to eat there and they took food orders from 8 of us.The last couple ordered they were told that they couldn’t order as the catering staff were too busy.....🤬. By this time our food was on its way so difficult to cancel. When is came the food was ok but £7.95 for a sandwich and 5 chips!! 3 of us had fish and chips which looked nice but was tasteless tbh. All in all not a place I’d rush back to mainly because of the frosty reception we got on arrival......

This was our walking group Xmas Meal, what a disaster! Service not good had to wait for our veggies until they had served everyone with their meat, consequently our dinner was cold which actually matched the veggies. Only offered mustard for the beef and no cranberry sauce with the turkey. The cheesecake was a real disappointment also. Coffee was cold as were the mince pies. This was certainly not value for money. Such a shame as the group has had good meals and service in the past.

Staying in caravans in the village with friends. One of our friends had a birthday yesterday, so decided to visit tonight to celebrate. Hadn't booked but managed to get a table for four. We all had something different and we all enjoyed the food. Excellent service and food. The steak and ale pie was perfect. I had the treacle sponge and custard for dessert, very filling. Booked for Saturday night our last night in the village. Highly recommend.

Wife and I took son there last Sat lunchtime, We all had a starter and a main, food was delicious as was the beer..a good range including doombar. .As the wife was driving, my son and I also enjoyed a bottle of newcastle brown ale each, it was served cold in the bottle with a Newcastle brown ale schooner...a rare treat in these parts and much appreciated. The staff were welcoming and very sociable and the pub/restaurant felt good to be in. Altogether a very pleasant experience, enjoyed by us all.

We had read good reviews and booked in advance in anticipation of a great meal but unfortunately this was not the case. My husband enjoyed his meal but my veggie sausages came with the smallest helping of vegetables possible (easily fitting in dessert spoon) and a similar amount of gravy. The service was horribly slow and despite several requests for the bill we gave up and went to the bar to pay. We were told that they were busier than expected but saw staff standing chatting.

I took my Brother and partner who were visiting from the North East here for dinner. This doubles as a very friendly local pub and an excellent restaurant. The welcome is both friendly and efficient. The food was served quickly even though they were quite busy. They had a varied menu and specials board. The food was excellent, the staff were very attentive and keen to be of service. Would I recommend them? Absolutely. Great staff, great food.

We had heard this place was good and we were working in the area so we showed up. Unfortunately it was fish and chip night and we hadn't booked and were unable to get seats. It all smelt amazing and it was so full. So we booked for the next night. I was on a diet so had their prawn cocktail which was very tasty. The others had the vegetable pasta dish and others the fish and chips. It all went down very well and everyone's plates were cleared. Will definitely return when I am off my wedding diet.

Two of us ate on a Saturday evening - the pub was busy but not too busy. We had a couple of pints of well-kept ales (61 Deep, Doom Bar), and then ordered the pork crackling as a starter - genius! It came as strips of crackling with a side dish of apple sauce. It was delicious (perfect to share). I had the steak pie and mash, which was ... okay. My friend had the fish (haddock) and chips - and it was the biggest portion I've ever seen. It would have fed my family of four (seriously). He said it was great. With another couple of pints (Doom Bar and Proper Job), the bill was £38.90. Very respectable.

We visited the Black Horse for their Wednesday special chip and fish night. We booked just to make sure we didn’t need a plan B and arrived around 6pm. All six of us had fish and chips (the five and three year old halved an adults portion), there wasn’t anything left on anyone’s plates which demonstrated everyone’s enjoyment. The fish batter was lovely and crispy, the chips were nice pub chips rather than the often soggy chips I find in a fish and chip shop, served with mushy peas and Stokes generous sachets of sauce. Everyone left feeling full and happy!

We have been dropping by the Black Horse for several years. Being very dog-friendly is a bonus for us but sometimes that means we have second best on everything else - not here. Friendly and accommodating staff, a great menu with lots of local produce and a good range of beers, local and otherwise. There are a number of specials always on offer and also special nights (curry/fish and chips - also offered as take away). Its been a pleasure to see the hard work that’s gone into this business bear fruit. We will definitely be back.

I telephoned for a booking for 6 for Sunday lunch. I didn’t check what was on the menu having had dinner on an earlier occasion offering a full menu. I had recommended this inn to friends as the evening meal had been very pleasant. I was taken aback when only roast dinners were on offer. The vegetarian option was the veg; vegetarian stuffing and gravy. It arrived looking less than appealing. Extra vegetables arrived to be shared by the rest of the table. Everything was pretty bland and really lacked flavour, except the meat which was deemed to be ok. We think we had cauliflower cheese but the texture was so mushy it was hard to decide. Carrots, greens and mashed potato were provided but none tasted fresh; just bland. Most of the Yorkshire puddings were burnt black in places and somewhat difficult to enjoy.

I am not sure why the review below states that this pub is family friendly. I visited with my 6 month old plus two older relatives who do not have great mobility. The food here is excellent, great locally sourced food and not overly expensive given it’s location. Were I felt let this place down is the lack of disabled amenities or baby change facilities so could not rate for family friendly but yes it is dog friendly. When I visited I knew a bit of a disaster had brewed and I asked the waitress about a baby change. She said they didnt have one, nor a disabled toilet or room on the counter in the ladies. Usually I wouldn’t have an issue using the floor of a disabled as I carry a change mat but in this case there wasn’t one and I didnt want to subject any poor lady to hopping around what I was about to see on the floor of the ladies so resorted to the car park and the back seat of the car! Doable but for the sake of a fold down tray, I wouldn’t have to run the risk of the upholstery getting covered! Also because of the lack of disabled bathroom my two relatives couldn’t use the bathroom. The food was so lovely and the waitress kept apologising about having to go to the car and that she has raised the issue before. I couldn’t fault the food or the service, just be prepared if you have a baby who creates little disasters, it’s going to get worse before you can make it better!!

The Black Horse offers really good pub grub at very reasonable prices. The service and the pub atmosphere are excellent which all makes for a most pleasant evening. We had the whitebait and the chicory, beetroot and walnut salad for our starters - the whitebait was superb, the salad was good but could have done with a blue cheese dressing. For mains we had the sirloin steak and the pan roast duck (from the specials board). Both dishes were first class. The portion sizes are just right so that you come away full but not over-full. All in all a really satisfying evening.

We last visited about 9 months ago. my wife, daughter and I visited early one evening as my daughter decided she had a craving for a pie. There is a good selection of real ales and other beers. The pub is lovely inside with beams and I know in cold weather has a roaring fire. My daughter started with a coated chicken dish with a slightly spicy sauce. The chicken was very juicy and she enjoyed it. I went for the whitebait as I always enjoy a fish starter. My wife went for the fish and chips and commented that the fish was very tasty unlike some places where it lacks flavour. My daughter and I both opted for the steak pie. It was delicious and packed with meat. I opted for the mash potatoes and vegetables. the mash was beautifully creamy and all accompanied by a tasty gravy. My daughter opted for chips and gravy and enjoyed it as much as me. We will be visiting again, but probably a lot more often.

We turned up for Sunday lunch to be told the booking had been cancelled that morning. The guy didn't bother to look further down the page to notice our booking was still live...it was someone elses booking that had been cancelled. A good start. So,our party of 6 sat down and waited and waited so I had to leave the table to find someone to take our order. This done we asked for jug of water as well as our drinks, only 4 water glasses were left. After the roast I had to leave the table to ask for a pudding menu....then we needed to give our pudding order. Not having seen anyone to ask,I raised my hand to get attention then had to wave at the barman/manager to make sure I was seen. This guy shouted at me across the bar and down the restaurant over other guests. I certainly didn't consider it to be rude I was merely fed up with leaving the table and my family to get attention. He then came over and started arguing with me. What a prat. This family of 6 and any friends I tell about our experience will not be going back there again.

Lovely pub restaurant in the beautiful village of Nassington and we were delighted to be able to take in our Labrador who is a huge part of our family. Went in to enquire whether we may come in for a drink and bring our dog, the landlord welcomed us all in and it was lovely to see other dogs in the pub as well as ours. A little later we enquired about coming in for a meal on the following night and were delighted to hear that our dog could come too! Early the next evening we entered a very busy pub with most tables taken but the landlord seemed to remember us and found us a table at which we could sit at and our Labrador could lay at by the side - just lovely. Our meal was grand with my husband stating his tuna was the best ever and the beer excellent. I too, enjoyed my meal but the best part was having our dog with us, several dogs were in the pub and it was lovely to see people interacting with the dogs and making conversation with the owners. Thank you to the Landlord, excellent atmosphere, good food, wine and beer, lovely mannered staff and service but best of all thank you for allowing man's best friend to remain by our side in this charming public house.

This is the second time I've gone there for a meal, and they have not disappointed! We were there on a very busy Saturday evening yet the service was still friendly and efficient, and the food was absolutely delicious!! Such a lovely pub to visit friends, family, dog, etc!

Having seen other reviews we thought this would be a good place to visit. We were wrong! Awful wine list, not a decent chardonnay or sauvignon blanc to be had, Could have done better by going to ANY supermarket. We settled for soft drinks.Lunch menu pretty poor choice. Overcooked haddock and over 30 chips with some mushy peas. Huge piece of fish that was too dry, Most of it was left. Catering issue of " home cooked" steak pie, tasteless mashed potatoes, with beans, peas and dirty baby carrots.Starving spouse had some ice cream. I had a tasteless americano coffee. No ambience but good clean toilets.Wont hurry to Nassington again!

I use this pub on the occasions I do go out. When I do, time after time we are never let down. Between myself, my family & even my staff who I took for Sunday lunch as a treat (which everyone thought was fantastic !) we have tried most of the menu. I can honestly say I have always had a first class meal & I can say that on behalf of all the family & friends I have taken there. Just one word of warning. If you are going to try their amazing Sunday lunch......... book ahead.

Although we visited the pub restaurant last year, this was our first time for Lunch. We both chose from the specials board. I had sea bass, perfectly prepared and cooked and my wife had the lamb kofta - again this was excellent. The board said the dish came with olives in the accompanying salad - my wife doesnt like them, but this was no problem for the kitchen as salads are made up when you order. Desserts, a home made fruit crumble and a cheesecake were just as good. Only a team of three on the day we visited but they obviously all work well together and customers were served promptly with a smile. There are a lot of good pub restaurants in the area around Peterborough but this was one of the finest meals I have had out for months...so I very much doubt you will find better than this. I've given it five for value because, although not cheap, it's worth every penny.

This was our first visit for Sunday lunch to this pub and we were delighted, they certainly have it sorted. You have a choice of 4 meats, turkey, pork, beef or lamb all the meat is locally sourced and excellent. There were four of us and we each tried one of the four meats, they were all very good. The service is exemplaryand the staff are all extremely helpful. This seems to be a pub that has it sorted very well with different menus on separate nights and we certainly intend to thry these. Value for money excellent with the main course being £11.35 on a Sunday, with desserts exrtra. The desserts were again all freshly made very good, all in all it was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had and we will certainly recommend it to our friends.

We stumbled across this pub whilst on a jaunt to the Passport Office. Really great menu and the food was just perfect. Great service, staff couldn't do enough for us and the interior of the pub is just lovely. Be warned when ordering the amazing fish and chips, the fish is HUGE! Highly recommended.

I found this place on Tripadvisor highly recommended and there was no mention of booking a table, I arrived at 12.15pm on Sunday, thinking I'm a single person and even if I sat at the bar I could get Sunday lunch, as I walked through I asked this pleasant lady if I could get Sunday lunch and she said one moment, asked this man who had his back to me and he was eating his Sunday lunch, without turning round he grunted no! I was somewhat taken aback not even looking at me or asking how many I was or offering a place at the bar, I was quite upset and left, what a rude ignorant man, I can only think he was the landlord, I will never go back and I hope he choke on his meal the way he was so rude to his customers! Be wary...

We have just finished a fabulous family Sunday roast beef lunch. We haven't been to the Black Horse for some time but we had heard it has had a refurbish and a big improvement in the cooking.Although there was an option of roast beef, turkey, lamb, pork etc we all chose beef with Yorkshire pudding. This was seriously good and so was the sweet course or puddings. We came away feeling well fed with no serious bill at the end of it.I must make a special mention of "Tash" our waitress.....she was so excellent. She took the order, delivered our food and always with a smile and a sense of humour....well done Tash, thank you.

These are real pies, not those masquerading as pies which are actually a stew in a pot with a pastry lid. Home made, great full pastry case and packed with prime ingredients. I have seldom enjoyed a pub meal more. I complemented my meal with a pint of Autumn Red. This pub is all a country inn should be. Comfy decor, friendly staff, prompt service, great food, well kept real ale and they welcomed us with our two border terriers. And it didn't break the bank.

Entering the large car park at the rear of the Black Horse, the place does not look that inviting. As soon as you enter you are proved wrong immediately. The place mixes new with old....and it works....service was rapid,we had drinks in our hands and shown to our table within a couple of minutes.......the food arrived in less than 5 minutes and was superb.....large crispy Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes that were perfect,2 slices of thick beef(there are choices of turkey and pork too)and the vegetables......carrots, broccoli and cauliflower cheese came out seperately immediately afterwards.......service and staff were top class, very attentive without pestering or overdoing it....a good selection of drinks too....i settled for my Doombar. There were several walk in customers who the landlord managed to find a seat even though the place was getting busy.It is obvious this pub is popular.I am glad i tried it.Visited Oct. 2016.

We visited the Black Horse, for the first time, for lunch today. The pub itself is very nice and has plenty of parking. There were lots of interesting pictures on the walls and a decent choice of beers. We had the carrot and ginger soup which came with hot home made rosemary and cheese bread and also the ham sandwich which came with garnish, coleslaw and giant home made crispsEverything was really good.We got a friendly welcome and the service was excellentWith a bottle of coke and a pint of soda and lime the total cost was just over £15 which was great value

What a lovely warm welcome from friendly staff and in the most beautiful surroundings. I came here after a long walk with friends and we had pre-ordered a Sunday lunch. My roast lamb was amazing and came with Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, brocolli, carrots and mash with lashings of gravy. For dessert I have a beautiful cheesecake which was delicious.

Bought a flat white, usually £3.50 but they charged me £4.10!!! I checked the price and they said the reason for this was for my oat milk. So I paid 0.70p just for having oat milk. Outrageous.

Seeing as my review was removed I will try again! Stay away. I went to the so called “quiz night” and it was awful. You would have found a better atmosphere in a morgue. Hardly any there, no music, vile smell and it was dirty. I use to frequent the pub before lockdown and it was fantastic. It has apparently changed hands since and not for the better. I will definitely not be going back. The smell and filth were enough to put me off my beer let alone dreary feel to the place. Very sad to say that I will not be recommending a once lovely pub

Most probably the best food I’ve ever had. If you are looking for a cosy pub with great food next to an open fire then you have found it. Make sure you book though as it gets very busy. Ask for Jamie and say jack sent you.

No words can describe how fantastic this pub is, this has become our regular and we have no faults! food is fantastic, we have started doing the bottomless gin afternoon tea ,again fantastic, great supply of Gin well looked after, cakes to die for! Highly recommend! Staff are fantastic and very welcoming! Location of the pub is great, sit in the comfort of the country pub or down by the river overlooking fields. Highly recommend this pub :)
