The owner of this restaurant verbally abused an 88 year old woman because she paid for her food but dared to say the peas were cold. This woman is my nan and he told her to shut up before she got a chance to even talk whilst telling her she’s barred for not liking the food. I reiterate she is 88, frail and overall she was scared of this man. This woman never complains and still happily paid for her meal. Never asked for her money back once. I find this absolutely appalling that this man would shout and intimidate a group of elderly women on their own, seems like some kind of sick power trip. Clearly should not be arround people especially vulnerable ones. My nan would eat her monthly with her friends, this often being her only social interaction with her friends and has never complained once, he has petrified her.

Went to the Jolly Farmer Saturday evening to sample the Steak night menu. Glad we booked a table as it was busy early evening and most of the tables had reserved on them. Grabbed a Bear Blonde beer and ordered the steak. Bar service is efficient. Steak was cooked as requested and was good enough quality for the reasonable price. Huge chunky chips and peas and an extra peppercorn sauce made it a very filling meal. A couple more pints each made it very enjoyable meal for under £50 for 2 of us. Good service, good food at a reasonable price. Well done Jolly Farmer.

Used to be regulars pre-covid especially for Steak night offers - got caught out with a £60 parking charge on 30/06/2022 for parking in the usual car park at the rear, only to find out it is part of Gosforth Valley Shopping Centre (when did that happen?). Was not warned at the bar and not aware of any signage inside or out. To be fair I wasn't looking out for it! I find this kind of thing appalling customer service by the adjacent retailer not warning customers, shows a lack of appreciation for their 'apostle' customers. No matter will now add this to my list of pubs not to use again which includes the Devonshire Arms at Baslow for same reason.

If I could give no stars I would! AVOID this pub by all costs absolutely disgusting customer service to a disabled man who needed the toilet! Discrimination against invisible disabilities. All my partner needed to do was go to the toilet because he has ruptured disks and can not hold it, this being said my partner did not want to go in the street in public like most men would in this situation. But the staff who work at this pub refused a member of the public (a disabled member of the public at that) to use a public toilet. I doubt a pregnant woman would have been turned away so there is no excuse for this vile and embarrassing ordeal my partner just had to go through!

The dishes were more than ample, beautifully presented and served by our charming host for the night Ashley, who even managed to win over the ‘life critic’ amongst us!Although not local to the area, I would certainly place this on my radar for future visits and I have to say it really does outdo our local ‘gastro pub’ for value and ambience. Had the wrong food served by the waitress who said it was not her fault and did not apologise! She should have offered to change it for the correct dish but seemed uninterested in doing so. As this was during a group meal a fuss was not made but a poor impression of the service will last. The manager (!) did not offer any apology either or offer to reduce the bill. The Jolly Farmer is located in the middle of a housing estate in Dronfield. There is free parking outside and the pub is clean, well presented and spacious. Although there were plenty of tables a significant number were reserved indicating how busy this pub gets. The menu was substantial and varied with daily special offers. The bar was well stocked and included 4 real ales as well as many lagers, ciders and the usual wines and spirits. Iced tap water was free and self service from a dispenser on the bar. The food was of a good quality and overall was very good value for money. As I was on summer leave I witnessed an incident involving one of my in-laws close family friends, He ordered a Stella from the bar that was to me him and my father in law off the smell and that taste was wrong. He then proceeded to go to the bar bare in mind this was his first pint and asked for a change or an exchange, he then came back with no pint in hand. Afterwards the landlord came out instantly on the offensive saying “Stella doesn’t go off and if you carry on I’m calling the police”, we then all proceeded to leave I will say my pint was ok as was my father in-laws but the stella was blatantly off and the attitude the landlord was giving off was out of order.

Rarely have I been to a Restaurant where Staff, without any cause, refused to smile, or engage in any small talk, or even simply to GREET Guests. Does not this Establishment realise that people who are visibly pampered, or even acknowledged, will return through those doors - loaded with money! - in double-quick time. The mis-called Jolly Farmer has never heard of the <>. One punter tells 6 punters- which then becomes SEVEN punters telling another 6 of their experience. I have known a Hotel shut down on the strength - weakness? - of one single Christmas Party. The Rule of 42. Here, the Staff had four enormous assets : First, Good Food; Second, a Good Chef! Third, a Good Site [ in the heart of Dronfield Newtown ]; Fourth, a large number of Guests for a Monday Luncheon; & Fifth : US ... our goodwill.. & our deep pockets!! How could they then squander that bank-balance by being so hostile that they even told a diner who wished to double-check a food-order before it went through to Kitchen: "We don't keep a Menu behind the Bar."

Its fair to say it was with slight reluctance that I ordered lunch at the Jolly Farmer, having had to brush crumbs off the seat before I could sit down and then having to find baby wipes to wipe the menus as they were sticky. However we chose from the specials board and to our pleasant surprise the food served was very good. The salmon was perfectly cooked, the salad was fresh, a fluffy baked potato and chunky chips completed the meal. There is a variety of pub food on the menu- including a selection of salads and pasta dishes, various burgers and steaks. There is a light bites menu which offers baked potatoes and hot and cold sandwiches and wraps. Newspapers are available to borrow on the bar, the ladies toilets were clean.Overall it was a pleasant lunch and there is no fault with the food,or service, but there is room for improvement - dining areas should be cleaned between customers and tables and menus should be wiped clean- however it was bank holiday weekend, so maybe we should go back when its less busy.

The '2 main courses for £11' offer makes eating out very affordable and is even available on a Saturday night (last orders 8.30). I ordered fish and chips and was pleased that it was a thick piece of freshly battered cod. There is also an a la carte section to the menu

We eat here a lot and foods very good.its a pity about the courtesy of there staff. They must have new staff as some rather rude, very blunt and didn't have my booking last time that was booked 2 months prior.Teach your staff manners.

Great friendly local pub. Excellent food especially Steak night on Thursdays. Karl and Ashley and staff always provide a warm welcome. Birthday meals are always a great occasion at the Jolly Farmer. Outside area is great on a sunny day.

Great food, great service and very reasonable price. We both had fish, chips and mushy peas and tarter sauce.

Become a regular Tuesday night stop off for my family and I. Both Karl are Ash as well as there team are always very professional. The warm welcome is always appreciated as you don't find that often these days. There range of real ale is extensive and quirky at the same time. Always nice to see. The food offer at the jolly farmer just what you want on a cold February evening. Served hot to the table and plenty of it, by very happy team members. I shall be recommending the jolly farmer to all I know. Keep up the good work. Happy Tuesday customer.

Lovely landlady & landlord. So friendly and welcoming. We had halloumi kebab and steak which were both cooked to perfection. Has glass jars on the bar filled with phone chargers and plugs incase you’ve forgotten yours and also a jar full of reading glasses just incase you need to borrow a pair! How thoughtful! And the best part is they are very dog friendly. Dog treat station at the end of the bar. See you again soon!

We visited on November 1st, 2024, and sadly, it was quite a disappointment. While the bar staff did their best, the kitchen service was very underwhelming. By 6:30 PM, they had already run out of the special main menu on the board! The food took a long time to arrive, and when it finally did, it was subpar. The steak & ale pie was more air than a hot air balloon and hardly had any meat. The crust was burnt and tasted like a heated-up frozen pie. The chips were clearly shop-bought oven chips. This was not the level of service we had experienced before. We left feeling quite disappointed. It seems the place is being sold, and I hope the new owners can bring back some quality!

Good pub with onsite brewery and a plentiful selection of local beers/ales as well as wines/spirits etc. Friendly staff and atmosphere.
